I have installed programs (games mainly) and removed them using add/remove on the PDA. Which never really worked as they dropped out the add/remove screen but were still available for use. So I manually deleted the files using explorer.
The result was they all went but left their shortcuts everywhere. They are viewed as an icon as something like a plain white file with blue edging, along with the programs name, which if selected read with an error saying something like error please reinstall or remove... I have tried (at least I think) to remove them from the registry but with no joy, does anyone have any good ideas?
windows\start menu\programs\ and remove the shortcut
Does anyone know how to remove an application icon from the Settings\Menus list? The application uninstalled without any errors but the choice to checkmark under Menus is still there. When trying to access the program under the Programs section the icon is there but gives an error when trying to access it, of course because it is not installed.
I tried to reinstall/uninstall the program but it did no good the icon remains and does not get removed. Under Settings\Remove Programs it is NOT listed.
Anyone know a way to get it out? Thank you very much.
use file explorer and delete?
look under windows/start menu
if its there, it in the start menu, look deeper into the programs folder,
if its there its in the settings list. delete it from there to solve your problem.
I'm trying to change the icon of K-9 SMS on the Home screen. I thought for sure AnyCut would do this, but I haven't figured out how... any tips?
Thanks in advance.
You would have to actually repackage the installer with your own icon, and re-sign it (hoping that it will still install). And everytime you update the program, you would have to repeat those steps. Icons are embedded in the .apk files.
I had an idea, but again have no way to do it(or if it's possible). In windows you can create a simple shortcut to point to anything that can use any icon. Couldn't some sort of 'shortcut' file or apk be written that launches "your app here" and links to a seperate image? a sort of workaround to opening the apps apk. idk just ramblin..
I'm sure most of the home screen replacements that are coming out will also have this power. it'll probably just cost a bit.
you should refer to this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=482718) for steps on how to modify themes on non-stock apps. i've been able to change the icon for k-9 and a handful of other apps. you will need to install the sdk and stericson's auto-signer first before you do anything. then, it's just a matter of deleting the meta-inf folder, changing the icon and re-signing the .apk.
good luck.
I've tried adding my own icon to the JFupdater and it wouldn't install. Maybe I was doing something wrong.

Is this how you add a personal picture to the home screen?
The personal pictures are actually quite easy, just long press the today screen, choose 'Widget' and select picture frame. Then select the picture you want to use. I'm not sure but I think BetterCut has the ability to change other icons.

Thanks czar.nik
I have made new folders using activesync in my windows/start/programs folder. The new folders are programs, apps web, etc.
Using the phones file manager, I have cut and pasted the appropriate icons in the start menu to their respective new folders that I created. Ex: I put opera and IE in the web folder, camera, video recorder in the mutimedia folder and so on. After I did the cut and paste, when I look at the windows/start/programs folder with either activesync or the phones own file manager, the icons that I cut and pasted are in their new folders, and not in the windows/start/programs folder. But, when I open the start icon on the phone, the icons I cut and pasted to the new folders still are visible, along with the same respective icon that I cut to the folders.
I did all this to unclutter the start screen. I have installed the touch X remove reappearing icon cab and have validated the registry change to 0. But, the supposed cut icons are still there, cluttering up the start page. Any ideas on how to get rid of this things forever??!!
Any solutions......anybody?
"Fun & Info" can be removed somehow?

Try to restart your device. If it doesn't help, delete those icons from star menu entirely (or move them somewhere else), restart your device (then there should be non of these icons anywhere in start menu) and then move them anywhere you want. It worked for me when i encountered this problem, so it's at least worth the try.. Good luck
not working, please help
i installed the cab and tried deleting icons on both the file explorer and on the windows mobile center on my pc. It is not working. The files are no longer there but the icons are, except now they are grey files, not the icons as before. Please somebody walk me through this step by step.

I've also been told there isn't a way to get the original icons off the start menu that tmobile had on the phone when i got it, such as bn eReader, blockbuster, etc. I need help.

Tap file explorer/windows/start menu/programs and then delete the unwanted icon. It will be gone from your start menu
1. You should give the post a title which points to you problem!
2. How did you delete it? via removing the app folder from storage? This is as senseful as deleting shortcuts on a normal pc...
You should use the uninstall-function in general (Settings-->Applications-->Remove Applications)
3. To get rid of the icon, you can:
a) reinstall the app and remove it with the uninstall-function (most convenient way, which also makes most sense)
b) Use a file explorer (not sure if the stock one works) like total commander (freeware) or resco explorer and goto Windows-->Startmenue-->Programms and delete the shortcuts file.
Sorry double post.
Ahhh, thanks I will try that now can ou advice me some good applications?
