How can I either set HTC Album to "\Storage Card\Pictures" or have Windows Medial Player 11 Sync to "\Storage Card\DCIM\100MEDIA"?
I've read the posts and the supposed fixes to changing HTC Album's default directory on the storage card. We have two registry changes thus far.
1. "EnableDCIM" set to 0
2. "SaveFolder_0409" changed to "SaveFolder_0405"
None of this is really working for me. The first option changes the folder to "Storage Card\My Documents" and the second one...well I don't know what it does besides make my previous pictures invisible to HTC Album. I sync my all the photo albums on my computer using Windows Media Player 11, but it syncs the pictures to "\Storage Card\Pictures" which HTC Album doesn't recognize. I really don't want to resort to manually copying files as WMP11 syncs the pictures really quickly and compresses my 2.6GB of pictures on my computer to ~80MB of pictures on my SD card and it automatically puts new pictures I've taken on the SD card whenever I sync my device.

Thanks! Altho, after making the registry changes, its apparent that its not as simple as that.
I think that this may actually be pretty complicated. That registry entry and "SaveFolder_0409" all point simply to "My Pictures" not "My Documents\My Pictures" furthermore the EnableDCIM tweak makes the pictures save to My Documents. It seems as if these entries are predicated on another "My Documents" registry entry elsewhere that tells the OS the folder is within My Documents. So in short, you can change the HTC Album folder to anything you want in My Documents, but to get it see anything outside of My Documents is more complicated.
I think I may try to approach this from the opposite end and see if I can hack Windows Media Player to sync pictures to either the "Storage Card\DCIM\Media100" folder or to the "Storage Card\My Documents\My Pictures folder"
Possible Solutions!
Apparently, there are a couple of versions of HTC Album with a folder selection option!
I haven't tested these yet, as I don't currently have the time to do a hard reset and tweak my TC back to its current settings if these don't work. To those with more time than I, please try one or all of these versions and report back!

when i dl'd that advance settings program and i followed the steps, i did get it to make the pics / video / download get saved to my storage card
when i take pics or videos with the cam it now puts them in \storage card\my documents\my pictures | my videos, etc.
however, HTC album searches the ENTIRE storage card for picture files and places them in the album, not just the my pictures folder!
..so it shows skins for pcm keyboard, and other useless .jpg's from other programs and such that have no business being in a photo album..
This new version looks good!
there is no way to replace it with the other version except to reflash the rom?
that really sucks...
oh well, maybe sometime in the future there will be a nice rom kitchen released...just tell me where to donate and who to give money to so they can make it happen
surgex01, I did not mean to imply that these versions of HTC Album needed to be cooked into av ROM for install. They may work fine just being installed on our oem ROM. I can't say as I haven't tried installing them yet.

Why would you have to hard reset?
I'm sorry i'm kind of a newb when it comes to how these devices work...
is there any way to replace the current version of HTC Album without flashing a new rom?
I thought that's what you meant by having to hard reset..
I'm gonna try one of em, I'll let you know if they work or not...and hopefully i wont need to hard reset if they dont..??
========
update: The first one works great, thanks. Problem = SOLVED!
That's great surgex0! It looks like I'll be installing it too. Do all the gestures work also?
(The reason I hadmentioned hard reset before was in case it did't work and overwrote some of the original HTC Album's files. If that had happened, we would have to hard reset to get it back to normal.)
AH I understand now!
The gestures work and everything is great.
The only thing is it makes you select a dir every time you open it, which is kind of annoying...how hard is it to have a "settings" form with a dir. text box! Jeeze HTC what gives!?
lol..</rant>
Another annoyance is it installs itself to \HTCAlbum instead of in the Program Files directory, and it doesn't give you a choice to install it on your device or storage card either...
It can be uninstalled and I'm almost positive it will put the original one back in place, but don't quote me on that cause I haven't tried it yet =p
Either way, if it doesn't you can always download the separate .cab from the forum somewhere for the stock version.
Okay, so this may not be of any use, but here's my experience.
I wanted to view many of the pictures from my digital camera, AT&T 8525, or other sources on my HTC Touch Cruise. I had JUST got the phone yesterday, and saw that you had used WMP to move the photos from your PC to your Touch Cruise. So I did the same, only making sure to move the photos to my Storage Card.
However, obviously the pictures didn't show up in "Camera Album" while in that standard directory. HOWEVER, when I moved the pictures (in folders or not) to the "DCIM", then "100MEDIA" folder on my Storage Card... all the pictures were available! I can slide my finger slowly to scroll about 25 pictures at a time, or slide it faster to move maybe 50 pictures. If I'm going to fast, I can stop the scrolling by clicking anywhere on the screen and highlighting a photo... then pick the actual photo I want to start with, etc.
The only problem I've had at all, was when moving a LOT of photos at once in WMP (more than 400+) all at once... the sync didn't complete. I think I overwhelmed the program, because my "class 4" 8GB memory card probably couldn't keep up at some point. But I deleted the pictures that transferred over as 1kb or 0kb files, and could easily readd these photos later.
One mistake I made. I put ALL my photos in the SAME folder directly under 100MEDIA to start. But later realized I could keep the photos in subfolders and they still show up the same in Camera Album.
Probably too late, but I hope this can help someone.
Yea the picture viewer works well… it is annoying to have to deal with the dialog prompt every time, but I can live with that. Also sigh, unfortunately, the video preview program doesn't work with version 1 on my phone. it doesn't matter what folder I select. I don't use the video preview function, but I still would like everything to work.I may try the other versions to see if they fix this issue.

Hello,
I dont realy understand cause I have no "SaveFolder_0409" but I have "SaveFolder_040C" on mine.
So, I've tried to change "SAveFolder_040C" like you explained and changed "EnableDCIM" to 0, but no change, I can't see my photo on my Storage Card. I always see the picture in "My Images" on flash memory.
What's the mater ?
Thank's

I've Polaris (HTC Touch Cruise) - WM 6.1
im using Dutty's 6.1 with HTC Album 1_0_1030_720 , and i use AdvancedConfig to change the default path of the pic directory (to SD card dir) and HTC album still opens up showing the default (main memory) location pictures
anybody has any ideas?
@S3ntrax
Its always the same problem, I see, for anybody.
I've just found something :
If if you rename the directory in main memory, tha album search pictures in other directory. So rename \my documents\my pictures\ (or in french \my documents\mes images) in \mu documents\Pictures (for exemple), and the album search on other directory the pictures. But I don't know how to tell to album which directory...
Sorry for my pour english, i'l in france...
Best regards
Didier
somehow after me messing around with the settings now it saves to the correct directory on the SD card but now the videos i record go nowhere, can't find where it saves them, weird
on the topic of the HTC Album Viewer, have you noticed that when zoomed in, the panning is not as smooth as the panning in the default windows picture viewer? For example i notice that zooming in the default picture viewer takes a lot longer but then panning is quicker. while zooming is quick in HTC Album but panning is not as quick. can we have the best of both?
btw: in the HTC Album viewer I am able to see both pictures in my storage card DCIM folder and on the device my documents \ my pictures folder. when i take pictures they all go in the storage card DCIM folder.
Yup, I definitely have noticed that. Its becoming clear that while HTC have good intentions, they really didn't due the best job optimizing their programs for the device. This as well as the dialer are good examples. I hope that whenever they release the 6.1 ROM they fix all this stuff. I have read that they have Touch Flo (called Manilla or 2.0) updates in the works....and screenshots look to have added a folder/album view and hopefully they optimized the program to work better also.
wow, that looks awesome..!
how can i set the album to open "\Storage Card\DCIM\100MEDIA" instead of "\My Document\My Pictures". By the way i do not have the HTC Album thing under my root directory.

I like the HTC Camera Album very much but I can't change the directories to browse my picture which are not in DCIM-Folder.
Is there a possibility to add this function?
I found the reg-entry to make the standard picture viwer but its senceless without "directory change"-menu.
I testet "HTC AlbumFolder DirectoryOption.cab" but when I want to install it occurs a failure with the rights of my device.
Thank u 4 help!
Like 2hot4tv, I'm puzzled about how you view photo's in other directories using htc's otherwise excellent camera album.
I did discover that if I used "open with" (part of ISS essentials) to open a picture stored elsewhere, then it appeared in the album, but only that picture, not its neighbours.
Yours hopefully,
Roy.

Is not solution !
You can try the following. That will not allow you to view all the pictures in different directories with HTC Album, but you get rid of the DCIM folder.
1. In the camera menu choose the option to save the pictures on the storage card.
2. Then do the following registry change:
HKLM \Software\HTC\Camera\General
Set "EnableDCIM" to 0 (default is 1)
This will change the path for the camera album to Storage Card\My Documents\My Pictures
3. Copy all your pictures in this directory.
Now you can view them with HTC Album.
To view pictures in different folders, you have to use the HTC Picture an Video viewer programm.

HELP
Only MPG4 videos are shown in HTC Album. It seems, that HTC Album is not able to show other coded videos. Switching back to the DCIM folder don´t work.
So far as I know, there is no solution at the moment.

Windows mobile device centre syncs all pictures to the \Storage Card\Pictures folder. Is it possible to change the settings for the HTC camera album to view this folder instead of DCIM or My Pictures?
Thanks

some solutions in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=376418 including some versions of HTC Album that allow you to choose which folder you want to browse.
Solution
Here is the solution to that problem:
1: Create a folder in your storage card named "My Documents" and inside it another named "My Pictures"
1: Remove your storage card
2: Go to File Explorer, go to My Device and create a New Folder named "Storage Card"
3: Insert your storage card and now it should be named "Storage Card2"(that's because the system changes it)
That's it! If you take pictures(and assuming you've selected storage card as destination) they should save in Storage Card2/My Documents/My Pictures
I hope its useful!!

Hi,
I m using the slide panle with media theme. Now i wish to change the default folder for the Pictures in this.
Currently it picks the images of the folder "Main Memory/My Picutres"
I want to use the Pics folder of my Storage Card. How can i do so.
I tried to fiddle with a registry entry for "default path" but in vain.
Can someone help me??
Thanks

maybe by changing the systems default path?
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Pictures]
"LocalPath"="\\My Documents\\My Pictures"
did you try to change this key and reset? don't panic if it does not work. just change it back and reset again

Things I'd like to find :
* How to make the My Pictures panel in the new homescreen to look for pictures in other folders. Any idea ? Apparently we need to hex edit cmhome.dll for that
You can reed it on Dr Martin's thread
If you put your pictures in this location, the sliding panel will read there.

Do i need to change the folder location or what???

i got partial solution. if you put pics in DCIM directory on mem card they gonna be on home screen!
the only registry entry i found with DCIM value in is
hklm-system-pictures-camera-oem-picturelocation-external
but after changing it nothing happens. anybody knows how to change default camera folder? so all the taken pics are in DCIM folder?
I'm with tepss. I want my camera to simply save to Storage Card/pictures and I'll be in heaven.
This is something even i will be interested in...As you might be aware we can as pf now store pics in \Storage Card\my Pictures folders only and they are pulled in to Home Screen...
Can some Senior member help a way out
? pics are stored i MY PICTURES on mem card and plugin reads everything in folder DCIM so we're looking for changing location in settings in camera to have them saved in DCIM or changing folder read by MyPictures slide. anybody?
I have an annoying problem that stems from the fact that my device renamed my memorycard from "memorycard" to "memorycard2".
I run a Swedish device, but I will try to rename to the best of my abilities.
I have a Polaris with the standard ROM, but this problem is more general in nature. I synced my memorycard with the camera, so that the photos I take are put on the card. I could then view my photos in the "camera album" software. Then I removed the card and after replacing it, it got the new name "memorycard2".
I still have the DCIM folder on the memorycard and the photos are still stored on the card in that folder. But I can't view them since they aren't loaded into the software. All the new photos aren't detected either.
I can still use the file explorer or the software called "photos and videos", but it's still a lot of work for a simple task.
So is there a way to A)get the software to load the picture already on the card and/or B)re-detect the folder so that the new pictures at least gets loaded in the software?
Thanks in advance!
Small bumb, sorry for that but it's an annoying problem.
Have tried a few trick myself, like renaming the DCIM folder in order to force the phone to create a new one. It worked, but "photo album" will still not show the pictures...
So please, help me if you can! As of now it's a bit hard to use the phone as a camera.

The only way I know is to move them into a different folder. If you REALLY don't want them to show up, you could zip them up and delete the originals. They's about as good as I can suggest I'm afraid. Either that, or stop taking pictures of your girlfriend/gentials lol.

Changing the file attributes doesn't help. The album apps still show them. This is one of the things that bugged me when I made my "Hide Folders" app. It became a little pointless when certain applications didn't care about the "hidden" attribute.
Hi there
I use a Software named "Secubox". With this, i can create a virtual storage card which I can mount and unmount if i need it.
Its also encryptet, so the data stored there is secure and you have no access, if you don't have the password...
Works nice on my HD2, the only solution for this kind of data ;-)
else: put your pictures in a subfolder in Program Files... Album will show them only if you browse there....
Tip with the Program folder does it for me ! thank you!

That works for the very front of the GUI, but if you click on albums, you get to see the folders with images in them. I believe the above suggestion of putting your images in a program files sub-folder stops that happening.
Also, if you were to use the pictures & videos app, you can browse the folders all over the phone, so it's still not 100%. I think the suggestion of a secure, encrypted area is the most secure of the lot.
Either that or take my previous advice, and stop taking c**k shots lol.
Hi, I wrote the following script for my TP2 which did the trick. You need to have Mortscript installed.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=548841
Hide Photos
Not sure if this helps but what I do is :
I have on the SD card, a folder with all my data in called imaginatively Data.
In there I have Videos, Photos, Documents, and Hidden.
And pictures I don't want to be seen in Album, I put in the hidden folder.
Then in Total Commander :
Select the folder
Click File
Then >>>>>
Then Properties
This allows you to adjust the attributes.
Click Hidden, and click Recurse subdirs. (If you don't do the recurse, it will hide the folder but NOT the images within).
Then click OK.
Reverse the process when you want to get them back.
It's like 5 clicks to hide, and 5 to get them back.
No need to rename or anything, I found it works for me.
Hi,
create a new folder for private pictures and add to Album ignored list.
Example
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\HTCAlbum\Ignored]
"Maps from TomTom"="\\Storage Card\\Western*"
"TomTom"="\\Storage Card\\Navigator"
"Musik"="\\Storage Card\\Musik"
"MSMetaData"="\\Storage Card\\MSMetaData"
"Camera"="\\My Documents\\Templates"
"MMS"="\\My Documents\\UAContents"
[COLOR="Red"]"Private"="\\Storage Card\\Private Pictures"[/COLOR]
with friendly greet

yep
the upper post doesn't work, but no doubt the easiest way to do it is posted up by jaknife with recurse subfolders hide method
