Sony Ericsson Xperia X1, Just wondering ......... - General Topics

Well looking I was for a good place to post this and this looks like the best place, please move the thread if its not.
Now on topic. Its time to upgrade my phone and I like what the X1 has to offer but I also have a few questions regarding the specs.
1st What speed does it operate at for HSDPA downloads ? 3.6Mbit or 7.2Mbit ?
2nd Does it have 3D acceleration ?
3rd Does it have a proper working GPS ?
Im wondering since I have a TYTN II, if the X1 is an upgrade or not.
If you do answer to this thread with any relavant information please provide a source (a link or something).
Please dont tell me to search, since I already have and didnt find anything solid.
Cheers, Adil AS

Speed is 3.6mbit
Goin by the way the panels float about and the size of the screen i would think it has some kind of video acceleration it uses the 7200 so probably utilises the ATI chip and it also list 3d games as a feature on the homepage.
GPS is assisted for quicker lock using phone network data plus satelites so proper in the respect that it works
you need a better search engine
http://www.sonyericsson.com/cws/products/mobilephones/specifications/x1?cc=gb&lc=en

Yeah I checked thier page it didnt have information regarding the specs in detail. For example it does not mention the CPU speed or if the AGPS function is to assist a external GPS reciever or if there is an internal GPS that it will assist.
3.6Mbit is a let down. I really hope this changes for the better (7.2Mbit).
About the 3D acceleration Ive seen some of the videos. Where the new SE interface lags and windows mobile is definately not in 840 by 480 mode. So Im not really sure. Can you post a link to the specific video that youve seen ?
Thanks for the information so far !

sorry to hijack ur thread but i read its like a optical joystick instead of a normal d-pad? does anyone know how that works? does it work like a mouse pad on a laptop kinda thing?

no its ok, wonder why I didnt think of that. So how does such a joystick work ?
Edit : It looks like its the same thing as a laptop touch-pad (with a pointer on screen), I remeber another HTC phone has already had this (the Artemis).
Edit 2 : Just looked at the new videos on Youtube, its seems GPS is comfirmed (SE product manager mentioned it in the video) and so is 3D acceleration since the X1 will play and record VGA movies at 30 FPS (also the flip menu is as smooth as silk).

read my x1-related articles, I've elaboraed on all your q's (for example, 3D hardware accelerations)
As a rule of thumb, it's ALWAYS worth reading ALL my posts I post here in the General forum. I cross-post all my articles here so that you don't need to visit other boards / my blog to read them all.

Camera App for WM5 on Himalaya?

Now that we have a working implementation of ArcSoft MMS for the Himalaya, is there any chance of bringing the camera application over from a Universal? I understand that the camera hardware is different, but I presume the application works through some sort of device driver, which we obviously already have on the Himalaya WM5.
Alternatively, has anyone managed to get the camera app from WM2003SE working under WM5?
Now the MMS issue has been solved, this is the only other major reason remaining for my not upgrading. I already upgraded once, but the lack of support from the major software I use and these other two issues meant that the upgrade effectively crippled my device. Now software support is starting to trickle through, it's just these core applications which need solving.
WARNING! DO NOT INSTALL THE 'Camera2K5.cab' FILE POSTED BELOW BY johnney ON HIMALAYA DEVICES. IT WILL LOCK UP YOUR DEVICE! THE POSTER OF THIS FILE MISUNDERSTOOD THE QUESTION!
well if it's not a general device driver then you cant use it
much like if you have a ati graphic card on your pc you cant use a nvidia driver
If you re-read my post, I wasn't suggesting the use of another driver for the camera, but rather the use of the one which is already there. I said the camera software probably interfaced with the camera through a device driver, so theoretically the software should be hardware independant.

Thry this patch!
Can anyone confirm that this patch works on a Himalaya? I thought it was intended for a BlueAngel...?
WARNING............
DO NOT INSTALL THE CAMERA PATCH....
It just locked up my device completely....
had to hard reset it
I hate you sooooo much dude!!!!!!!
3 hours of my life wasted starting now
SICK SICK SICK!!!!
All my data lost, holy crap
San
Johnney you are a savior! My BlueAngel's cam is working on WM5!!!!!
Excellent Job! Thanks m8
Can someone please remove that file from download before other Himalaya users mess up their devices? I was quite clear in my original post, and this guy obviously didn't test the file himself before urging others to use it. :x
This file works with Blue Angel! So let the file there for other BA users to get it! Just change the title to BA Camera Patch
As the original question related to a fix for the camera on Himalaya devices, I don't really see the point in changing the thread to a BlueAngel one, other than to further confuse people.
By all means start another thread with this information for BlueAngel owners, but in the meantime we're still looking for a fix for the Himalaya.
...???...
Few minutes ago I've tried this patch(I was ready for hard reset). This are my experiences:
-it DIDN'T lock my device!
-it disables the camera totally. That means no capturing interface, only album available.
...that means: It is for Himalaya with BuzzROM 1.60a unuseful.
Any ideas about camera in Himalaya yet?
Buzz can fix the camera issue, I assume he doesnt have time to do it at the moment

@ Rayan,
It's better quality, at least we know what object we were recording at, lol.. i mean it has clearer output now, but I notice when saving it seems slower. Btw, what did you change, did you increase or decrease some of the value. thanks

@ferioz
First of all, let me say that this patch was not created by me, I found it over at Buzz_Lightyear's website (www.buzzdev.net ).
Yeah, the saving part of the process takes much longer to complete, but (correct me if I'm wrong) I think it's because now we are saving the clip to ROM, not RAM. That is, when recording it caches the video to RAM and then transfers it to ROM or SD which is also slower than normal RAM.
Conclussion, better this than nothing right?
Peace!

[LOOX N560] CPU Load when thouching the screen

First, I have to tell you that I'm French and only 21 years old, so my english may not be perfect
Please also tell me if the topic should have been placed somewhere else.
I've used the search button, found interesting topics, but no solutions.
Well, when I touch the screen either with the stylus or my finger, I can see the CPU load increasing up to 40% (GWES.EXE is in question) even if I don't move the stylus.
This means I can't play any game because most of them require the stylus to play. Games instantly slow down when I touch the screen. It's also unpleasant to surf with these slowdowns as soon as you want to scroll the screen. What a pity to have one of the most powerful pda and being unable to do anything !
I know some people have this problem (with other PPC) but never found a solution. As there are smart people here, I think I can find some help
Thank you !
Hi. Unfortunately you may not get the help you're looking for here. This site is limited to HTC devices.
Ok ... so where could I post it ? Perhaps it's not a N560 only problem.
Well, there was a thread here regarding this same issue. However there wasn't a solution found for it.

again no solutions were found
Thanks for replying !
Does any of you have a good link dealing with this problem ? or another board I should ask on ?

As has also been pointed out in several of my articles (please follow them), this problem has been very common with many current HTC-manufactured PDA's and, currently, there is no fix for it. Sorry.
BTW, did you try installing the AKU 3.5 upgrade on your N560? Not that I would think it'd help this paticular pobem.

Kaiser graphics accel, possible solution (got manila running on kaiser)

I've been playing about for a couple of days now with this graphics acceleration problem.
Yesterday i was trying out different DLL's and editing the registry, and i had put "libGLES_cm.dll" and "libGLES_cm.lib" into my windows folder. Today i was trying to install manila as many people have not been able to get it to work, it installed fine and then I clicked the "tap to start HTC home" on the homescreen and it asked me to allow "libGLES_cm.dll" and it is running.
However, it's a bit disproportioned and very very slow (0.75FPS).
I think it may be needing some more missing DLL's and the registry might need tweaking.
Also without libGLES_cm.dll (as the device is shipped) Manila fails to initialise. so HTC must have some sort of OGL drivers that they are using, but not supplying for Kaiser.
I used Vincent 3D libGLES: http://downloads.sourceforge.net/ogl-es/ogles-bin-1.0.0.zip?modtime=1144798031&big_mirror=0
and Heres a link for Manila: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=G5X13UZF
I'll try get a screenshot up in a minute but my kaiser's being a little slow now.
I'll try work on this more see what i get.
Any help would be appreciated
Thanks
Sorry, accidentally posted in the wrong section
Reposted in correct section, can a mod or admin delete this one please?
If you read the other Manilla thread you would know that Manilla is VGA. All of the icons need to be resized for QVGA. GLES is not enabled on the Kaiser so you can call for the dll all you want, but you still won't get any accleration or 3d out of it.
All of these possibilities have been investigated for acceleration &/or 3D.
As for Manilla, there is an effort & some progress being made in the other thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=363500
I suggest that is probably the place to post your willingness to help/investigate in the effort to get it converted to QVGA & to spped it up.
As for acceleration & 3G I would look at some of the info Chainfire has posted as he has invested at least 100 hours into the effort.
I understand that but my point was that the libGLES_cm.dll is currently working on my device so there must be someway of getting acceleration, i was just posting so that others could look at this and possibly find a way to get gFx acceleration, screenshot on the thread i posted in the correct section http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=364459

Isn't that just a software driver.
I can emulate DX10 feature in software, still doesn't give me any hardware acceleration... since it's software you know.
Yes it is software, it's the library containing the what is needed for OpenGLES to run, i could be wrong but seeing as it's needed by manila, it shows that HTC is planning to impliment a driver in the future.
Also i think it shows a possible sign for getting acceleration onto the kaiser
Just a thought, any chance someone has a LG KS20 dump?
Rom and registry?
i downloaded the dump off the FTP but it seemsto be corrupt as file sizes don't match up.
Thanks
LG has the same problem. Chainfire also pulled out the KS20 drivers & tried porting/rewritting to Kaiser with no luck.
As for th ogles, I think that manilla is looking for it & finding it yes. But obviously there is still no acceleration as evidenced by the FPS rate. The portion of the chip that would optimize/use the dll's is either not there or is deactivated. I tried calling for ogles in other proggies with some luck as to function, but performance has never changed or has always worsened. So yes, it's the library, but it has no effect on the hardware needed to support the ogles.
I really don't think you can look at this app as any proof that HTC plans to use any acceleration on the Kaiser because this was clearly not written for the Kaiser. It's VGA after all.
Believe me, there are few more than me that would like to see this pulled off, especially by a forum member, since HTC says it's way to hard of a process for them to pull off any time soon. But after many long months off following & conversing w/ chainfire, it's still nothing more than a dream & chainfire is the guy that has brought us some of the most amazing features for our WM6 devices not to mention the dynamic duo cmonex & olipro.
I hope you prove me wrong in spades, I'd like nothing better than to see "dariushuntly" hoisted up on our shoulders as the acceleration saviour.

What makes you think this was ever meant for any MSM7X00-based devices?
I spoke with HTC PR in Sweden recently about an official upgrade to TouchFLO for the Kaiser. (Ie if the cube was destined for Kaiser devices) and the answer was no, no planned upgrades to touchflo functionality.
Ie no official cube, much less Manilla. In other words it pretty much has nothing to do with a future driver update.
Sorry if you think it's negative or that I'm rude, I just think it's better to be realistic about this issue and try to get it solved rather than to rely on a pipedream.
The only thing it really does confirm is that future HTC devices will have HW accelerated graphics and drivers.

And VGA.

Got a HTC Touch Pro today

...and I'm finding it laggy and contemplating taking it back and getting an N95 8GB.
Anyone have advice on how I can speed up the device? Its driving me bat**** nuts.
Also what imbecile decided to have an unimportant keyboard pop up center bottom but have something important like close/okay in the top right.
Also the scroll bar being on the right hand side? Terrible, I keep missing the bar and hitting the vodaphone logo.

I know that you are new here so I won't flame you too much.
You really need to read these forum rules
You should not have created a new thread for this as there are already threads talking about these things
You posted this in the Touch Elf Forum rather then the Touch Pro forum.
This will have to be moved to the correct forum.
Hm I did search the main page for a touch pro forum but didn't see one.
I don't see any reason to flame me, I'm just being honest, I'm alittle pissed off myself that I've put my name to a contract for a phone that isn't as pleasing as I was hoping.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=438
The above link takes you to the Rapheal forum AKA Touch Pro
Edit - Don't create a new thread in the Rapheal forum either : Mods have been notified and they will move this one (Or delete it) whatever it is they decide to do. You will see once they do whatever they do
You might not be that pleased with your device the way you got it (Stock); however, there is lots to learn in these forums (read the Rapheal forums) and Development and Hacking forums for cool apps and tweaks for your phone that should make you happier.
A Touch Pro should definitely be fast right out the box. I don't know how much experience you have with Windows Mobile but you should probably check your ROM version under START-SETTINGS-SYSTEM-DEVICE INFORMATION. If it's a really old one you should update it.
ROMeOS is a custom ROM which I found faster than the stock one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=426099
And DCS is another light and fast ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=421609
You can also use some other Registry edits to speed up your system: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=413562&highlight=tweaks
A more drastic measure would be to disable TF3D...
However, I wouldn't even conside changing my Touch Pro with a Nokia N95...
Indeed, I'm finding alot of useful apps.
One thing though, I know I should search, but can you tell me how to find out what rom I have?
Edit beat me to it lol
I forgot to mention something about the scrolling bars, you don't really need it. Your phone reacts in gestures (like an iPhone) just use your finger to move a list up or down...
other than that, I can't say that you are an average Windows Mobile user.
If you continue having problems... maybe you should consider a Nokia 3310. I hear Nokia N95 has also a lot of problems... It also has the scroll bar on the right hand side, but you can't even use it...
lol I have an N95, if I trade this in I'll be trading it in for the 8GB version.
One thing I found tricky with the HTC is figuring out the status of the GPS. It came with Telnet Navigator...well a link to the web page saying it wasnt supported, downloaded the Vodaphone version on the links list, and when I try "where am i" it says it cannot locate me.
How exactly would I diagnose that my GPS signal is non-existant. I do live in the middle of nowhere.
The things you complained about are not HTC's fault. That's the operating system Windows Mobile. All other Windows Mobile devices work the same way with the little OK key in the top right and a keyboard popping out in the bottom, scroll bar in the right, etc. Changing the rom may speed it up, but it's still Windows Mobile.

I didn't really understant the question or the problem, but I am guessing you are looking for a simple GPS program to check your position and signal.

Samsung Omnia HD Problem...

Not sure if anyone can help - go easy on me - its my first post!!
After swapping and changing my phone from HTC touch HD, Sony Ericsson Xperia, Samsung Innov8, I decided to get a Samsung HD Omnia.
I am really pleased with the phone and all the features but have got one niggly problem that is REALLY starting to annoy me.
Whenever I download anything from the web, (widgets, orange maps, or anything that would be installed to my phone) I am getting lots of small icons that would be used in the program ive downloaded going into my media album viewer/Media Browser. This is making it an absolute pain in the backside to try and differ between my own photos taken and the stupid icons that it has downloaded.
An example is downloading orange Maps - I now have over 200 small icons (arrows, signs, MPH limits) that have fallen into my media browser.
Ive looked through all settings and cant see how to turn this off..
I usually come here to find all of my solutions but so far havent seen this problem. . Can any of you clever people assist?!!?
can noone help??
no replies yet....
Welcome to the forum
As this is an HTC devices only forum you won´t have toomuch atention.
However there is a thread in off topic regarding samsing, perhaps there you´ll find your solution
Good luck,
