I have given my girlfriend my unlocked Treo 750v (I had 2) and we are trying to determine if she can buy a Softbank (aka Vodafone Japan) SIM card IN Japan and use the 750v IN Japan on the Softbank network.
We know that my UK Vodafone 750v roams successfully on the Japan network but what we don't know is if Japan SIM cards contain anything "unusual" that her Treo would not recognise.
Any thoughts?

Hello.
I tried to place my U-Sim (UMTS from "3") into my XDA Atom and it can be read.
Why?
Even a 50$ Nokia EDGE phone can read it.
Any Idea how let it be readable from my ATOM?
Thank You
Is it a O2 Sim card? Maybe your Atom is simlocked to O2, so it can't read other cards than the O2 sims
Nope. It is a "3" UMTS card.

The USIM card I have works on any EDGE Nokia phone from 3220 to top.
Work in 2G or 2.5G
I acctualy use it with a Nokia 6680.
I wonder why it does not work with ATOM!
That's a big problem for me since it was buyed to work with this USIM
On yet another visit to Australia I thought I hade cracked it ,with cdma being switched off at the end of January and all my friends having nextg phones on 850mhz I thought my o2 orbit or the mini s (both 850mhz) would work but no luck They did roam in the city but not in the remote parts
if I put my uk o2 sim in one of their nextg phones my number did work at the remote locations
So has any one got any ideas what I need to do to get a fully roaming phone
thanks

Number of questions...
I currently live in the UK and use the following mobiles the MDA Compact IV and the Samsung U900 soul as my back up phone (both currently locked to T-Mobile). I am about to move to Dubai and would like to know:::
1) Will these phones work over there... really confirm what I think (IE they will provided they are unlocked).
2) Does T-Mobile operate over there? If not what service providers are there and how competitive are they? I benefit from being on an employees tariff with T-Mobile at the moment.
3) Does anyone want to buy a T-Mobile branded Athena with the AP4.0 Rom?

I think GSM and CDMA standard here is same as Europe. There are only 2 operators, Etisalat and Du.
Du is just new and has some coverage problem so you may want to go with Etisalat.
I have been here 2 years and I am not impressed by bought Etisalat and Du.
WCDMA is umts
CDMA is a 2g phone std. that America and few others use that don't use sim cards
don't believe Dubai use CDMA
hi all. i have a htc cruise branded vodaphone (italian version). i would like know if there is a sim lock because i am not able to get umts (gprs only) with other operator
(different from vodaphone)
thanks
Hm. My guess is that there is no SIM lock since you're able to use SIM from other operator.
Are you sure that other operator supports UMTS?
Hi walcom77, I bought the same phone, I guess is the WM6.0 version. Simply upgrade to standard WM6.1 from HTC site, and you'll remove vodafone brand and 3G lock for other operators sims.
Will I be charged extra if I use Mtel sim card (I have gotten it in this country) with a Vodafone ROM? From what I have seen Mtel has been bought by Vodafone (or it has been a part of Vodafone all along) but I don't know if it will cause higher bills.
Edit: Mtel is partnered with Vodafone. Not owned by.
