Outlook hanging: can be the sdcard corrupted - Touch Cruise General

Here is my experience that could solve problems occurring also to others.
Today the Cruise stopped starting the mail/messaging client.
When trying to synchronize, I also got the message sync was not possible (error 80004005).
After few trials, I had the bad idea to follow common suggestion, thus remove profile from activesync and try again (not working) and restore backup done some days ago (again, not working).
Likely, before going with an hard reset, I had the lucky idea to remove the sd card: bingo! Outlook is now starting.
So, the problem is in the outlook directory in the sd card that somehow got corrupted (it is where attachments are put).
So, solution was: remove the directory in the sd card (outlook will re-create automatically a new one); that's all.
Unfortunately I discovered that too late (the backup restore have caused me loosing few data not backed up), but I hope this massage may help someone else having similar problems.

Continous Rebooting

My brand new Vox is continously rebooting. The only way I can get it to boot is to take out the microsd card, then put it back in after it boots. The microsd card works fine afterwoods, but its really annoying.
Anyone else have this problem?
Looks like you installed something which the Vox doesn't like.
Perhaps facade? (see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=307378)
Had the exact same problem. Removing the microSD worked also.
Afterwards it was working fine. The problem started after installing
BatMonitor on the device. Removing it solved the problem permanently.
I would suggest you go through the programs you installed and check
to see wich one is causing the issue.
Thanks guys, I have a feeling you are both right and it is a programs I have installed. I wonder if it's newsbreak as my data file is on my microsd card. I guess I should wipe the device and start over....
For a temporary fix, remove the MicroSD, boot, then put the MicroSD back on.
For a more permanent fix: Install SKTools Lite and run the "Notifications Queue" tool. Then Press ACTION > Mark Duplicates. If you scroll down you will see some duplicates checked. Next press ACTION > Delete marked.
That should keep you running for a while. If the problem re-appears in the future, repeat this procedure.
Thanks. I read that post on Modaco too, but it didn't work for me. For now I just remove the microsd card when I reboot. I guess I will wipe the device and start over at some point...just had everything I wanted loaded right

Had the same problem. Thought it was the Facade, but it turns out not. I don't know what it is but I basically did a hard reset. Put everything I wanted back into the phone and than turned on without MSD card. Once it rebooted, I put the card back in. Since than no reboot problems so far.
I had the same problem, although I am not sure if it is related to installing any particular program. Initially the phone was fine and then it started re-booting on startup. I saw a suggestion of running SKtools and removeing duplicates in the Notification table, this worked for a while, then it came back again.
At first the only cure appeared to be to re-boot without the sd card inserted - inserting it again after the phone was running (I even had the same problem if a blank sd card was card inserted)
I then read about someone putting the phone in Flight mode before turning it off - this also solved the problem - better than removing the card each time.

yep, this happened to me, although i have no programs installed on my S710! (tho it did have a nasty drop onto the ground - which shouldnt realli affect it)took out the card, and it booted up fine! i keep my phone on 24/7 normally but had run outta battery!
Cheers!
Formatting the MicroSD card worked for me
Problem came back again today, and sett flight mode did not fix it, then i found this http://www.modaco.com/Continuous-reboots-t256186.html
which suggested renaming omap850_sdhc.dll to omap850_sdhc.dll.ol
but in my S710 I only have omap850_sdhc_mux.dll and that file is in rom and I can't copy or rename it.
Looks like it might be a sd card driver bug.

have you tried to edit the file with a copy of total commader??? sorry if it's such an obvious question...
I did try this with Total Comander!
Looking around at other posts/forums it looks like it is a WM6 problem. Probably related to the SD card driver.
At the moment the only consistant suggestion, is to reboot with the SD card removed and insert it when the phone is back up and running.
I managed to get the phone to boot with the SD card inserted!
I know that when booting that I do not run any applications which are installed on the SD card. But the home screen does display things which are located on the SD card - in particular the skype plugin, and the mru list display icons from files located on the SD card.
I change my homescreen to "Sindows Simple" which does not contain either of these and re-booted.
The phone came back up first time!
- Is windows trying to access the card too soon - before the driver has loaded maybe?

Not sure if its trying to access it to soon but with my HTC Herald I had similar problem. By removing and home screen plugin's related to the memory card, as well as any other links to the memory card such as storing PIE cache and saving pictures it seemed to work for a bit, but just as I thought I solved it, the problem re-appeared. Paul seemed to have fixed the issue for ppc's (sdhc dll that was causing the problem)but it doesn't seem as though the solution can be carried over because the vox is not SDHC. Another cause the some speculate is that there are multiple notifications that boot at the same time, maybe cleaning these would help.
On another note I have just upgraded my friend's vox to the dopod rom and it seems as if the problem has disappeared (hopefully for good.) I will try to invoke the problem again by running programs from the memory at boot and see if this nag has been squeezed out by HTC sister company. Has anyone else tried to upgrade to the dopod rom???
cheers
Hi,
I had previously removed duplicate notifications and ensured that no applications on the SD card were run at start up, including setting the browser cache back to the phone memory.
I can now cause the problem to occur or boot normally just by switching homescreens.
I edited my home screens xml to remove all plugins that refered to applications on the sd card, including the mru list - this home screen allows normal boot. The other version causes the re-boot loop.
Mike.
I can confirm that my numerous attempts to invoke the boot-loop after upgrading to the dopod rom have thankfully failed.
neptune 1
boot loop 12083798
Ok so maybe the boot loop has gotten the best of me (atleast 40 hard resets) over the past couple of months, but the problems have been choked to death on my herald and the vox...any last words...
EDITS if this mf'er pulls an Arnold like "I'll be back" I swear ima go all terminator on this phone and blow it to pieces with a pack of m-80's
I managed to solve this problem on my phone by renaming the directory "/windows/Autorun/Storage Card" to "/windows/Autorun/OldStorage Card"
Maybe it would help in your cases..

Scheduled programs not running

Hi,
I have a problem running scheduled programs on my device. Let me explain further. I installed a third party alarm program (third one so far) on the storage card and set it to ring the alarm at a certain time. When I tested it manually, it worked without a hitch. But the next morning, instead of ringing as it was scheduled to, I got a "cannot execute "/Storage Card/<exe name>".
The same problem happened when I scheduled PIMBackup. I set it to back up my device everyday. On the first day, it would show "cannot execute /Storage Card/<exe name>", and it would not show anything subsequent days and it still doesn't run.
I tried putting PIMBackup on the device instead of the Storage Card, but the same problem occurs.
I have no idea what is wrong or what is interfering with the scheduler but the same thing doesn't happen to others apparently.
Any expert can help me out here?
I'm using a HTC prophet (dopod 818pro)
WM5, ROM 2.2
Getting schedule items in Storage Card is generally a 'no no' thing to do, as it takes time for the storage card to switch on. Hence, you'll get messages as said. Anyway, as for your stuff not running on the device, I would suggest you to uninstall your PIMBackup and check the notification queue yourself (e.g. using Task Manager) for any possible PIMBackup that may be pointing to the storage card again. Then reinstall and try again.
Works

Hey, you're right. I removed PIMBackup from the Storage Card and reset the scedule from the device itself, and now it runs without error. I never knew there was a problem running scheduled items from the storage card, but now I know. Thanks for your advice!

Sounds like a shortcut was created in the windows/start up folder. See if this holds true, and delete from the start up folder if the executable is there. Installing on your storage card should not be a problem. All my programs that are scheduled to run at certain times are installed on my storage card. You may need to re-install the program/s.

Program files on storage card "cannot be opened"

I have a Tmobile Wing with an 8gb memory card. I install almost all my programs to the card, unless it's something 'intrinsic' like Office Mobile, OneNote Mobile, etc. I use the card heavily for homework files, field and lab data, and notetaking for my classes.
Installed programs include:
Mobipocket
Goosync
Ultrasoft Money
Skype
CacheMate/CacheNav
Stuff I've done:
Pagepool to 6mb (has been this way for a LONG time)
BatteryStatus is also installed, but I found it after the hard reset I describe below. Haven't been brave enough to use the overclock function yet.
My program list has stayed pretty much the same...the most recent addition was Skype. I haven't dropped or drowned the phone.
Occasionally, as long as I've had the phone (about a year), I would notice that the Goosync and Mobipocked icons in my start menu would disappear (they would appear as a generic 'program' icon; you know, square with a blue bar at top). Sometimes they would come back, but they would always disappear again.
In the past week, the shortcuts ceased to function entirely. I get the message:
"The file <insert program I'm trying to use here> cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate or one of its components cannot be found. If the problem persists, try reinstalling or restoring this file."
So I followed directions and reinstalled the programs. They worked...once. Then I went back to getting the error. Suddenly NO programs installed on the memory card will run. They still appear in the Remove Programs list, so I even tried uninstalling them and reinstalling with no success. So I did a hard reset and started over from scratch.
Same problem. No programs installed to the memory card can be launched after the first time. I downloaded Google Maps just to see if a new program that hadn't been installed before had the same problem, and it is exhibiting the same behavior. I can launch a program newly installed to the card once, and then it no longer works.
I went ahead and installed my programs to main memory so I can have them for school; they work fine from there. But I'd sure like to move some back to the storage card. I have no problem accessing word, excel, etc, documents from the card.
I hope I've described this intelligently; I searched for the error message and saw a thread from 2005 under Universal:Universal, but couldn't figure out if they solved their problem or not.
Hoping someone can help me. I'm about ready to pull my hair out.
have you tried using a different card? considering that you still had the problem after a hard reset, my guess is that the problem is the card.
I hadn't considered that because it's only programs that are affected, all the word or excel files are fine, as are my ebooks, but I will try to round up another card somewhere to try. Thanks.

Storage Card not recognise and Messaging will not start

Hello,
XDA O2 Orbit2
Mobile 6
When the phone is restarted messaging will not start, auto start, or receive messages, and the 8GB storage card is seen in File Explorer as "Storage Card 2".
To get messaging to start I have to remove the storage card, then messaging will start, delete "Storage Card 1" in file explorer, and reinsert storage card.
When I reinsert the original 1GB card restart goes okay and messaging works.
When I purchased the card I am sure I checked that my phone was okay with 8GB cards.
Any suggestions please?
Cheers, Guy.
I think I have sorted it out.
I noticed that; after I had started Messaging function, with the storage card not inserted, that a folder "Inbox.mst" was created in the none existent Storage card; that appeared in file manager. So I tried delegating that Folder on the 8GB card, the folder was empty anyway. Restarted the phone with the card inserted, and hey-presto everything works.
So if anyone else gets that problem, there is the solution.
mssyncapp Activesync broken
Thanks for the tip grwsmith...
I had a similar problem as I thought I had a corrupt file somewhere. It all started with a dying battery. I thought I had encountered a bad 'write' during a battery die and got something corrupt. Could not get activesync to start and all messaging was gone. Could not get messaging to even start up.
So... I found an old spb full backup from September and started with a hard reset then restore. It did not work, still no activesync or messaging. Did not make any sense. Until I read this posting... Did another restore, then when the 8925 went to restart I pulled out the 8gb sd card. It booted up just fine and everything was good again. Inserted the sd card, deleted all inbox files from it and re-synced to Exchange. I sounds like I had a corrupt inbox file that kept breaking activesync and messaging someway.
Just my $.02 in case it may help anyone else.
Thanks again for the tip...

[Resolved] Solution | Application Manager "Calculating/Computing" Issue

Hello guys, wishing you all a very pleasant day.
Many people have that pain in the a** problem when the application manager of their smartphone starts to act weird. It is that when you try to clear the cache, delete app data or even uninstall an application, the application manager get stuck on "computing/calculating" and never stops. Also, when you try to uninstall an application, it gets stuck on "uninstalling" and never ends!
I had this problem on my HTC Desire 500 since about day 7 of purchasing, I figured the solution for this after months of searching on the web for a quick solution for this frustrating issue without taking it back for repair. I thought it was a software malfunction but the cause for that problem was the most unexpected factor; the SD card!
As an initial trial, I pulled the SD card out and started using the phone without it for a whole day. I checked the application manager every now and then and it was surprisingly working all fine! I put the SD card back and the problem came back out of nowhere!
So, here is how I solved that problem:
- Shutdown your phone and pull out the SD card. If the problem is gone then follow the below procedure:
1. Connect your smartphone to your laptop and copy all of your important photos, videos and songs to your laptop. DO NOT USE SD CARD BACKUP FUNCTION.
2. You might figure out that your smartphone cannot unmount the SD card, so you cannot format it from there. So, as a countermeasure, shutdown your smartphone, pull out your SD card and connect it to your laptop for a quick format.
3. After connecting the SD card to your laptop right click on the driver then select "format > quick format".
4. The file system should be FAT32 and the allocation size to be 4096 bytes (I'm not sure why the 4096 bytes in particular but I found many people recommending it)
5. Press "Start" to start formatting.
6. Pull your SD Card out and re-insert it back in your smartphone. Re-download your applications and do some checking for a whole days for the features that was not working "clear cache, clear app date, uninstall app, unmount SD card". and I hope they'll be working well.
The above solution is applicable for all types of smartphones, not only for HTC.
If anyone tries this method and works with them, please let me know

Eslamović
Thanks mate! You solved my problem
