I think it's part of the HTC theme. I got around it by doing the following:
1. Download and run ThemeGenCE.
2. Connect TC to the PC.
3. Import HTC theme to ThemeGenCE.
4. Select the background you want.
5. Save as a new theme.
6. Re-import back to TC and select it.

I think it's just best practice to create new theme so as not to overwrite the original... you may want it later.

Just set the background picture that you want to have in the right menu of the normative Windows Mobile Picture & Video Viewer (in German-Rom it is called "Bilder & Videos" = "Pictures & Videos".. its NOT the Camera Album).
You can define the grey-layer form 0% to 100% (0% = no grey Layer).

the gray is just the transparency that is applied to the backgound.
My favorite way around this is to navigate to the pic with pictures&video and there select set as background. You'll get a menu allowing you to set the transparency level.

Can someone make me a Today theme please?

I want the attached picture as the background, with the top and bottom in purple, and the picture to be visible in the start menu as well (I assume this is done by making the start menu transparent).
Unless someone could point me in the right direction of how to do this myself (without buying any software please. freeware only this month )
But for now if someone could do that for me I'd be very greatful
Cheers. GaZ
here you go mate...let me know if you have a prob opening the file. what i did was i used bvrp theme manager, installed it on my unit, then copied the tsk file from the unit's window's folder, and back to my pc's my docs. if you are able to open it; let me know if you want me to change any colors on the theme...here's a screen shot....
oh and if you're using an xda2 you can simply use the picture as the wallpaper and no need for making a theme...
cheers
oops, silly me i forgot you wanted the top and bottom bars in purple... here you go then...but personally i'd go for maroon
cheers
Go to pocketpc.com and download the theme generator.
Many thanks
And Carlos: I'll look into that software. I wanted to anyway but didn't know where it was. I just wanted this theme doing quickly.
Thanks again
How do you make a theme for ppc 2003?
Does anyone know how to adjust the transparency of an image used for wallpaper?
Go to funnysnake.com and get their free app for making themes.
Hi Robson!
How did you make the theme from the attached pic? Could you post a step-by-step procedure for this? Let's just call it "Theme-making for Dummies"
Thanks!

Thanks, mindracing
Hi mindracing!
I downloaded the freeware from FunnySnake.com and voila! I can now make my own themes ... in 5 minutes or so!
Thanks for the info ... thanks to this forum!
jabez
Does this work for 2003?
Yes, it does.

hey mate sorry for the late response; it's the weekend and i don't access my office email...which probably warrants my finding a solution to sync when not in the office...
anyway; i use bvrp theme manager. had it for ages now; bought it when i was still based in hong kong. what i did was:
1) saved the pic posted by gaz (saved as jpeg in any folder of your pc)
2) used bvrp theme manager...but right now you've got loads and loads of options for freeware theme managers
3) theme manager allows you to customize all the settings (e.g. colors, transparency, etc)
4) saved the file
5) normally the theme is in a ".tsk" file; you can see this when you download free themes over the internet
6) i then installed the theme i created into my ppc
7) once installed, i then went to the windows folder of my ppc; located the theme with the tsk file and extracted it
8) placed it on any folder in my pc, zipped it and then attached it in the forum
9) there you go mate
cheers

How to change T-Mobile Shadow's Neo Theme

Unless I overlooked something, these are the files you need to alter in order to change the background of the new Neo interface. These files are kept in the Windows directory on your phone.
These include all the Neo backgrounds and thematically similar backgrounds for the rest of Windows Mobile. I deliberately left out the landscape versions of the screens since there's little likelyhood you'd need them, but if you want, change those too.

Hey, how did you change the color for the comm manager? Also, when you were creating or using the icons, did you also have to make some for when they are inactive?

Thank you man.
Super useful!!
Hello, I just created cabs for different color themes for the Shadow, you can see how they look like in my personal site @freddyreyes.com:
Neo Blue Theme: http://freddyreyes.com/index.php?option=com_remository&Itemid=30&func=fileinfo&id=159
Neo Black Theme: http://freddyreyes.com/index.php?option=com_remository&Itemid=30&func=fileinfo&id=157
and if you want to go back the original T-Mobile Brown theme: http://freddyreyes.com/index.php?option=com_remository&Itemid=30&func=fileinfo&id=158
Those cabs also change the "application background" (what you see when you click on "start") and bar colors to match the themes.
Enjoy it.

I'm working on putting together a cab file to do that. In the mean time you can see my current menu (registry entries) here: http://freddyreyes.com/index.php?option=com_smf&Itemid=71&topic=219.0

In order to simplify people lives (who don't want to do a lot of registry changes), I put together a cab file that extends the Intenet Menu and add an additional Menu.
1- This cab file modify the existing "Internet Menu" and adds Weather, News, OperaMini Links to it.
2- Creates an additional Menu with links to Google Maps, Traffic, Movies (TCPMP), Calculator, SmartPhone Notes and YouTube (vtap)
Note: It assumes that you have those applications installed in your "Storage Card"
My phone is already customized so I can't test it. I'm looking for volunteers to test it.

That will just install the color scheme. You still need to install the plugin itself on Tornado.

It is possible if you use Tweak2K software. Choose system colour Today line and way u go!!
Another method is use ThemeGenCE an application to edit and create Themes on your PC. Just Google for those software.

That doesn't hide them now does it? It only changes the colour.
with ultimate launch you can do this ... just select it as the only plugin and load the other ones within ultimate launch

Anyway you can load HTC Home within UltimateLaunch???
Hiding the seperator lines ...
have you tried editing the xml file and setting the border width at "0" (e.g.,
b-border-color="transparent" b-border-width="0") ?
is anyone willing to mention which xml file this referrs to?
Colored Lines
Not certain if PPC's are too different from Smartphones, but in the "Application Data\Home" folder, you'll find the xml files used to drive the GUI interface of the Home/Today screen. These are completely editable - within these files you should find what I referenced above.
search for an app called UI TWEAKER .... it is a little complicated but you can do it and a lot of other cool stuff
here the solution
for me this works (on WM6.5)
completly invisible separator line, completly satisfation

Change WM Wallpaper properly

As everyone knows that WM even 6.1 stupidly tries to make adjustments to a custom wallpaper (Today -> use this picture as the background).
Is there a way to prevent WM from doing that?
If it's not possible, is there something out there that can take a pre-made theme and somehow change the background image and reload that theme again? I know you can create themes and all but I have a lot of wallpapers so I would like that to be done automatically, not manually one by one.
Is it possible? Thanks in advance.

if i got you right, you have problem with transparency...run default WM picture viewer,if you can't find it in start>programs look in windows folder for an app called "pimg", run it, find picture you want...hold stylus on the picture until menu appears or press right softkey select "set as today background..." after that set transparency to 0% and hit ok....you have a opaque wallpaper
THANKS!!!
Is there a registry value for the background? I'm thinking of making an automatic process with Mortscript.

I Deffinately don't want to discourage the development of you own app but if you don't want to spend a lot of time on this I believe it has already been done. If it is not to your liking, full steem ahead!!
Thanks for letting me know but would you please tell me if it has already been done then what is the name of "it"? Where can I find "it"? Did some search but to no avail.
@testdasi: "It" is ShantzTodayChanger, a small app written by me. Take a look at the link in my signatures.
Very nice app,
I'm interesting too, but to make a mortscript to do the same like this.
I want to change the wallpaper, using a registry key which contain weather and show the background according to the weather.
Could you explain which registry key and how to refresh the today screen please ?
Thanks in advance
Edit : only thing I've found in registry is that :
Code:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Today]
"Wall"="32"
"DPI"=dword:00000060
"UseStartImage"=dword:00000001
But I don't see how to give the full path, I mean 32 is for my 32.jpf file which is located in special path.
I don't see the 0% transparency and how to refresh screen.
Thanks
@ toniolol:
I guess to change the background for the today you have to overwrite some files in \windows, the stwater_320_240 and the stwater_240_320 (maybe in your device the files have other numbers, because these are related to your device's screen resolution ).
For more info on that take a look a this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=966239&postcount=4).
About the reloading/refreshing of the today screen, I don't know how.
Cheers.
thread will be moved to Q&A section
I have released the source code for my app here: http://tech.shantanugoel.com/projects/windows-mobile/shantztodaychanger
You can take a look at it. It will answer all your questions.

Why are my backgrounds like 60% white faded?

I cant figure this out no where.... Why cant i have my photo 100% color without the white over it? It works fine with the default wallpaper but when i change it, it has the white over it
open the picture using file explorer and open it... then go to menu and select "add as today background" or w/e it says... then it will allow you to choose your opacity/transparency. =P
It doesnt give me that option? I have Touchflo turned off if that does anything?
Also is there away to get rid of the picture when i hit Start?
When ever i hit start the picture is behind the list...
Anyone? this is really annoying and i cant figure out whats going wrong

ROMeOS uses File Explorer extended, which I noticed doesn't give that option of opacity when you choose to use an image as wallpaper.
So is there away around this? Regedit possibly?
Anyone?
.
I'd also like an answer to this, I'm using the latest RomeOS.
There may be other solutions too but here is one of them:
Open your picture from "Programs>Pictures & Videos" - while the picture is opened at "Programs>Pictures & Videos" click "Menu" and select "Set as Today Background". Here you have the option to set Transparency Level (Set it to 0 if to see it clear) and click "Ok". You should get unshaded clear picture.
Surprisingly, I could not get the "Transparency Level" setting when I try to set background while browsing the picture from file explorer.
Hope this helps....
Thanks pksher, confirmed working with latest build of RomeOS. (Start > Programs > Multimedia > Pictures & Videos is the path, at least for RomeOS, though)
The OP had forgotten the face of his father. ;-)
Anyway - the useful thing I'll add is that this method works even without using TouchFlo3D. I gave up on it a while ago - and am using my own background image. I also found out that if you use an image 1024x768 or larger - the image will fit nicely in landscape as well. If you use a 640x480 image, when you go to landscape mode - the left part of the image will be added to the right to make up the difference.
