Has anyone here got some good stuff for the HTC Panda (P6300)? I would love to upgrade to WM6! Also, would the Kaiser Home Screen work properly on a Windows Mobile 5 device such as the P6300? And finally, would it require new hardware, or just a software upgrade to make EDGE functional on this phone?
Anyone know of any way to upgrade the P6300 to WM6 yet? I guess not too many of you own a Panda!
Maybe Not Same Name?
Is this phone labeled as something else by other carriers?
yes there are panda owners im one
have been asking the same questions for a while now
there is software out there that works on our windows5 devices but no windows6

I know I've seen a thread before that talks about what are the hottest and best phones to buy but I cannot find the link.
I currently have a HTC Wizard/Tmobile Wing and I am ready to upgrade. I am going to go the unlocked phone option because I am not really interested in the Wing if their are unlocked phones out there that are better.
I really don't know what is all out there but maybe you guys can throw some phone names at me that are ppc and I can google them or you can tell me why you suggest that phone. I do like my Wizard, I just havent bought a phone in awhile so I need to get my fix
Deidre
htc kaiser
HTC Artemis with B&B 4.1 from ttom_codon )
I understand that this website is mostly based on HTC devices but do any of you have the I760 on Verizon? I am completely handcuffed with VZW because they haven't released any WM6 HTC Devices yet (obviously a good 6 months behind anyone else)
I really like the device but I am lacking a lot of ability to install some of the great work that has been done by you. I cannot even get the HTC Album to work. Is there ROM work that can be done for this device at all? I would even take the ability to use the XV6700 ROM by Helmi at this point just to have some more ability but my guess is that will not work. My frustration is mounting as this phone becomes very generic outside of PocketCM and HTC home Plugin. Any info any owners or enthusiasts could provide would be most welcome.
bumbp please
Go to www.pdaphonehome.com There is a i-760 forum there. Should get you all you need. I have the same samsung and have the fully functioning HTC cube app on it. Actually most of the good "hacks" will lead you back to this forum
I have a Verizon SCH-i760 with mobile 6.1 on it. Is that what your looking for?
+1 ,lots of good specific info over there www.pdaphonehome.com
but........no custom ROM's just yet......hopefully soon **crosses fingers**

Shindude,
Is a physical keyboard important?
If it's not, I suggest going for the Touch HD or Touch Diamond 2 (if screen size is not important). Otherwise, go for the Touch PRO 2 for the keyboard.
Cheers.
No a physical keyboard is not required but how about the iphone what do you suggest? I really like what you can do with it but does HTC have that kind of customization?
TC,
I would never suggest the iPhone. And yes, WinMo has endless amounts of customization to suit your needs. The only catch? You got to do it yourself cause no one is going to do it for you. You can load up custom ROMs and everything, but at the end of the day, it is up to you to tailor how you want your WinMo to look and feel.
If you feel like you are not up to the amount of work needed to fine-tune WinMo devices, only then would I say get the iPhone.
Cheers.
^the X1 Xperia is a Windows Mobile 6.1 device, so he should already be familiar with it.
I recommend the Diamond2 or Touch Pro 2 (keyboard), then you still also have xda support!

Galaxys,
That's true. But he may not have known that he could flash new ROMs and customize the phone to a point of lunacy.
Cheers.
Cool...Yes, flashing is always the best fun here on xda!
I would recommend:
Touch Pro 2 if you need a buissness oriented device
Diamond 2 or Tosh TGO if you want a multimedia oriented device
No points for iphoney...
And if it´s not an HTC it will not have the great support form this great site!
you can "jailbreak" an Iphone however, it keeps getting hastled by Apple- its a chicken and egg situation. If you want to be able to do everything you are allowed to do properly on an Iphone then you shouldn't jailbreak it. What it does then, it does very well - but its limited. Jailbreaking means it can do a lot more, nearly as much as as WinMob device but its gets risky using online stuff as Apple try to restrict jailbroken phones.
Its kind of like the old Xbox, you could hack it but MS would discover ways to detect it and try to disable your online ability, the hackers would then get round that fix, and then MS get around that hack .... rinse, repeat.
I wont recommend a particular WinMob device as you dont seem to have decided. You need to decide, easy to use, simple, glossy Iponey or techno savvy Winmob device. Ask yourself, what did you use on the X1? Does an Iponey have that? What do you think you need that you didn't have? Do you think a Winmob or Iphone would cover that extra ability?
So I've been a smartphone person for a while and the last good phone I had was the Nokia N91 which broke. I've been using a crappy Samsung slider to make/take calls and send/receive messages.
I'm getting a new phone and have narrowed down my choices to 2.
HTC HD2 (Leo) or the HTC Hero.
Now, I love the HTC Hero but the only thing keeping me is what I've heard about it being very laggy (and ive seen some videos, opening the mail takes at least 5-10 seconds). I have used the Android OS several times at the store and really love it (recently tried the HTC Droid Eric by Verizon).
I have also used Windows Mobile and find it okay, but seem to like Android better. Also, HTC Hero will NOT get 3G in the US...
I'm looking at the HD2 because it packs a lot of horsepower... 1Ghz is pretty dang nice, and from the videos I've seen lag does not exist AT ALL.
So now I have this dilemma... should I buy the HD2 or Hero. I guess it comes down to whether or not WinMo is better than Android (FOR ME. Please don't start a android vs winmo flame war).
What do you guys think?
P.S. I need to buy an unlocked GSM. No other options. Will probably get it from Middle East/Europe. Availability in a certain region is not an issue for me.
Welcome to HTC XDA! We highly recommend HTC HD2 top of the line PPC!! See the LEO section for the specs, answers & info...
I am personally waiting for the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 which runs android, a very high resolution, and the snapdragon processor, in my opinion it is superior to the hd2 and the hero
Thanks galaxys for the warm welcome.
I'm not sure what you mean by PPC, but why exactly is it that you recommend it? The superior hardware?
and thanks jad for the response... I have considered the X10 and think its pretty cool but I'm not willing to wait and need a new phone NOW
PPC means Pocket PC. Anything that runs Windows Mobile is a pocket PC. It's not a term you see much nowadays.
The HD2 is probably the best PPC/WM device out there at the moment. As far as I'm aware (others please correct me if I'm wrong) the Eris is the Hero in another casing spcifically for Verizon. If only the Leo ran Android....
Ah okay thanks TheBrit
Yes you are correct about the Eris. Just different case.
Also, I've really fallen in love with android... so I guess I'll go for the Hero.
There's also the Samsung Moment that runs Android and has a physical keyboard.

He said Hero not Leo
Windows has already released phones with winmo 7 (the TG02 from toshiba?). My HTC touch pro 2 is still running winmo 6.1! When is sprint going to provide the update to 6.5, which by now is already outdated?
Is anyone else frustrated by this? Hasn't the hacking community already built up a 6.5 rom for the touch pro 2? Why can't sprint get with the program?
"The touchscreen interface should be slicker on the TG02, not just because of the improved touchscreen, but also because the TG02 runs the Windows 6.5.3 operating system, rather than the Windows 6.5 operating system."

Windows Phone 7 will be coming out late 2010, if at all this year.
If you really want windows 6.5 just use one of the cooked roms, they will probably be more suited towards your needs anyways.
im fustrated
i don't know why sprint hasn't got 6.5 already, like you said other companies have 6.5 and even windows 7.. im frustrated and willing to upgrade with a custom rom someone made, but i just dont want to because that might ruin my warranty..i think lol..

technically it does...I waited for vzw 6.5 to see if it was any good...was less responsive than the original stock rom, so I tried mighty mikes and am really enjoying it.
EDIT: i tried giving the link for the Winmo 7 phone that I got my info from. Just google "engadget windows 7 hands on" and you'll find what I was referring to. I would post a link but I need to be verified first.
I got this new TP2 because of my original TP warranty (it was freezing so Sprint gave me a TP2 for FREE).
So I want to keep up this warranty so I can keep my total equipment protection and replace this one when it gets old.
But sprint is saying 6.5 will have all of these cool new personalization features that are specific for the TP2.
the suspense is killing me! Winmo 6.1 is such a drag...
Also, can these 6.5 ROMS have the new features that sprint is talking about for this phone?
Oh, and also I just want to say I LOVE THIS PHONE

Most likely one of the builds will have it. Check out the ppc forums for a consolidated CDMA app forum:

I appreciate the link but "flashing" a rom is, to me, a dark and mysterious process that I do not understand. Also, i cannot lose my warranty, it is the ticket to my next pocket pc.
I guess I just have to be patient...but I've been using windows for years so I'm used to that

Honestly at first I was a little apprehensive because I had seen mention of bricking your phone. It is super easy though once you get into it. Just take the time to read the stickies and follow the steps. I haven't had to take my phone in for warranty yet though so I'm not sure how it will turn out in that aspect. If you are worried don't do it. A phone that works is better than paperweight.
