Has anyone managed to set Gmail Imap up on WM6.1? It defaults to the pop3 settings, and I can see no way of changing this.

I don't use IMAP yet, but I think the trick is to misspell gmail the first time through, then go back and spell it right after it's setup.
go thru settings and put ur email as say, [email protected]... then once its set up go back in and modify to make it @ gmail.com...
thanks for that. I'll try it now.
edit: it works! thanks!
Hi, sorry to bring back a thread from a month ago, but I just set up IMAP for gmail and when I open messaging, my default folder goes to Outlook E-mail. Is there a way to have the program point to Gmail folder when I open the program? It's not fun to switch folder everytime. Thanks!
create shortcut to tmail.exe -service "mailboxname"

Hi, im setting up flexmail as an alternative to the built in email client on wm5 and I cant seem to find how to change messages/attachments to be saved over to the storage card instead of on the main memory.
Everytime I try to pull mail, my device runs out of memory and slows down to a crawl.
Also, another slight problem I just hit... I set all the options exactly as it said in the gmail config help... and Now, when I try to send mail via flexmail through gmail, its asking for "account credentials" ...
I set my username: [email protected]
I set my password: *************************
....but when I hit ok, its just stuck in a loop as if im providing it the wrong info. Anyone else experiencing this? I have not yet been able to send mail via ppc through gmail. All clients have done similar stuff.
I'll try to answer both the questions at the same time...First delete your present gmail account in FM 2007. Then set up a new version of the account following this process: When you start thru the menus to set up a new email "Account" and enter a gmail address FM will ask you if you want to use the default settings for gmail.com. Answer Yes to this. Now move thru the dialogs; the only thing that you will need to change/add is the gmail password. Do not change any of the other settings for gmail. You will eventually come to a dialog titled "Account Name and Storage". This is where you select the card as your storage. Enter the account name that you want, uncheck the "Store the mail messages...in local folders" and hit Next. You are now at a directory browser. Navigate to where you want the emails stored and/or create the folder for the storage and hit next. There will be a speed warning, acknowledge it, hit Finish and you are done.
This should work for you. I have never had a problem setting up gmail on any of my PPC's using this process. Now, if this still does not allow you to download mails I would haver to wonder if you are running thru a proxy that is causing problems.
Also, remember that gmail is not a "real" POP3 service, so there will be some problems using it (ex: I currently can only download emails 10 at a time...no idea why, and it worked fine 1 week ago...go figure)
HTH,

Thank you. Its working now. ^_^
I'm using Faria's WM6 ROM on my MDA, and have set up Gmail through WiFi on it, but when i exit the messaging app, it deletes my email! I didn't have this problem before, and I think I have the right POP3 settings in GMail.
Is this a setting on my phone or in Gmail that I need to fix?

thanks guys, both worked!
I am using the default email software supplied with WM6 on my TMobile Wing to check my Gmail account. I didn't want to have an extra Java app installed just to check Gmail, as I am really low on program space.
I like how it works, except for one little thing - when I get my mail, it also downloads emails that I have SENT and puts them into my Inbox as if I had received it, or sent it to myself. How do I stop this? Is there any way to make the software stop downloading from the Sent folder on Gmail?
Thanks!
Are you using POP to access your gmail? In the POP settings on your gmail site you can create a filter to control which email is downloaded via POP, so you could probably create a filter which excludes sent email
Yep, POP3 access.
That sounds like just what I need. I'll check out the Gmail FAQ and see what I can find.
Thanks!

Ok I didn't see anything to fix that in the Gmail settings or FAQ. Blah. I may just access it via the webpage. I liked having the poutlook do it though. Oh well.
Hmm use EMOZE

You can easily create POP3 account in WM5 or WM6 and manually do send receive or you can setup intervals which pocket outlook will access your Gmail account. In fact in pocket outlook when you create new pop email account for Gmail the setting will be made automatically. You simply need to enter your email address and password
Anyhow before doing above you need to enable POP3 in Gmail Web.
acces your web gmail --> go to settings and enable the POP3 access. Under settings there is also a tab for email filtering in which you can define which mails should be forward to POP3
Furthermore If you wan to have push mail, you can apply for free http://mail2web.com account. It is free MS exchange service. Forward your Gmail's to your mail2web account and it will push it to your device. (it functions perfectly)
I think you guys are misunderstanding my problem.
I have it sending/receiving manually, and it works just fine.
The problem is if I send a message at home on my computer, then I get my Wing and access my mail, it downloads the message I sent from my sent folder onto my phone, as if it were in my inbox.
What exactly is "pushing" btw?

RVM,
as I mentioned go to settings in your gmail web account there is the tab of filters. Then create a filter with your email
i.e:
from : [email protected]
Pushmail is similar to blackberry email, email that comes to your inbox will be pushed (send) to your hand device. You save manualy checking your inbox.
That's what I did. I went into filters and there was no option to have it not allow the sent mail to be downloaded via a POP3 client. I may have missed something so I will go have another look.

And used it with my trinity.....no problem at all.
@Blob8me
Push e-mail is not where I am looking for.
But think I will give it a look and try it......thanks !
If it's not letting you use pop3, enter a incorrect adress on the first screen (something like [email protected]) so it doesn't try to download the settings. Then, you can manually enter the pop3 settings.
Use the settings from here to configure it.

I tried that, thanks for your suggestion, but for incoming I have to use SSL wit port 995 and for outgoing port 465. I don't know how to set that.
As I can remember my Trinity recognize the settings for Gmail automaticly and let me choose pop or imap.

I guess the default settings have been changed in the ROM, or by GMail...
For ports, I think you can put "smtp.gmail.com:465" or whatever it actually is.

That's odd... When I first tried to set up Gmail with POP3 (mind you it was some time ago) but I think the Gmail site said POP3 was not accessible, and to use IMAP. My bad.

We need more info. What e-mail are you using (hotmail, gmail, exchange, other?), which e-mail app, what version of android do you have on your phone and what modifactions have you done, and what are the settings you using? For example,
I am running Cog beta 7, froyo, and replaced the e-mail app with this opne here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8453938&postcount=99
I am running my hotmail, aol and att.net e-mails on it.
Hotmail and AOL was automatic in settings, but att.net required a bunch more
For exchange I am using roadsync.
I have Android 2.1
I'm using my working email with the same configuration y have on my outlook an everywhere.
I even download K-9 Mail from the market and used the same configuration and it worked.
the thing is that I what to use the standard that comes with the captivate, because amonge meny thing it has the link on the home screen and is like ussless.
Please Help.
thanks.
Did you change the sync 3 day setting? Press menu, settings, accounts and sync. Select the exchange account and change the days to 1 month. Also try sendin yourself a message, if it does not send or receive, there is something wrong with your settings.
Also if you are using exchange, check with your admin that your username did not get locked out, happend to me and I had no idea. If it is another e-mail, and not exchnage having an issue, let me know exactly which e-mail is giving you an issue.

use k-9 and forget the samsung junk. you can even put it on the launch bar.
k-9 is the fastest android mail app that ive tried. it was almost real time. not that 5 minute sync that the stock one and many others have. mail droid is similar but having both running k-9 gave the notifications first.
if you dont know how to change the apps on the launch bar, press the applications icon, press menu, change view type to customizable grid.
press menu, choose edit, move desired icon to the launcher.
press menu, select save.

I agree with Dani, if the stock app does not work and K-9 does, use K-9. If the settings are correct and it still does not work, it may be an issue with the app.
