I've tried to open the WMDC for almost a week without any luck.
When I click on the WMDC icon from my start menu, WMDC logo pops up from the screen says "Please wait while Windows Mobile Device Center starts." for about good 15 seconds... and the poof. Nothing happens.
I uninstalled the WMDC and reinstalled it many many many times without any luck. I even deleted the device driver from driver manager... no luck.
What is going on? I has been working fine until last week?!? and I can't seem to pin pont what the heck is wrong with my computer...
BTW, I have a Titan (Verizon Wireless X6800) with DCD's 2.2.6 rom with the 3.27.00 radio rom... and of course Hard-SPL has been done. I suspect nothing really is wrong with the phone and am pretty sure that it has got to be the computer itself..
Can anyone chime in on this matter? I'd really appreciated all your help.

ok so I have a cingular 8125 which i CID unlocked and SIM unlocked. I have the T-mobil 2.26 as a ROM base and was running black dimond 1.0 touch ROM with no syncing prolbems. This past weekend my phone froze and i wasnt able to reset it, so i re flashed my base rom. I then tried to Flash the new dimond 2.0 touch rom and it flashed fine, but when i went to sync it up all it did was say it was syncing. I let it run over night and it was in the same state (saying it was syncing) that i left it in. I tried flashing another custom rom but ended up with the same result. I tried deleting active sync 4.5 and re-installing, and even tried a beta version of 4.5 but nothing has worked. PLease any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advanced.
could be outlook...outlook sometimes acts finicky...
recommendation would be to save your pim information...it's usually in some sort of personal folder, and then reinstall outlook. Move your pim information back and resync.
I had this same problem, but i fixed it.
I had this same problem using Diamond 1.1, so i thought it was the rom, but....Then, I used Octavoi, and I had the same problem, so i figured it was Windows Vista's Device Center (replaces ActiveSync), but... Then I found out that it stilled synced fine on my XP laptop (ActivSync 4.5), so.... i woke up one night and suddenly decided to remove my USB hub that my phone was connected through, and then I directly connected my phone to my computer (which actually gives it a direct undivided power source, it seems). After this, it synced in 4 minutes, and i finally got all my contacts back. Could this possibly be your case as well? That's all i can offer.
nope im this isnt my prolbem. and i cant find that folder that you were talking about on out look either. i tried flashing a bunch of diff roms but all it does is say its syncing and then my comp sends nothing? any more ideas would be greatly appreciated. thanks

Use PIMBackup, it saves and restores that information and more (which you can choose from)... i think it's free, it came with my ROM (Octavaoi 4.5), so u might search for it.
i would uninstall some stuff with your phone unplugged and reboot it then reconnect it and make sure that the usb cord or jack is working
Betcha I had it worse...
I'm a total newb to this stuff. I'm totally blown away by the level you folks are discussing thing at.
I just replaced my Audiovox 6600 with a Cingular 8125 w/WM6. I had to upgrade to Activesync 4.5 and it was going exactly what you describe.
I SPENT OVER 8 HOURS ON THE PHONE WITH THE MICROSOFT "HELP" if you can call it that.
The rapimgr.exe file was getting caught in a loop and hogging all the CPU. The answer was in:
Settings --> Connections --> USB to PC -->: Uncheck the "Enable advanced network funcionality" box
BTW - after the marathon "help" session, I was the one that figured it out.

Ok...props to you. First post and it's to help someone else with a well described solution. I hope this solves the person's problem and I'll have to remember to suggest this to folks having activesync issues... so much for "advanced network functionality" huh?
thanks alot... tried to fix this for 2 days. big props to you..
I had been using Windows 7 for weeks withno issue (official beta, build 7000), then suddenly about a week ago I started having strange device issue. It started takin forever to go to sleep and when I got home and plugged in my usb hub or any usb devices directly in they would not be acknowledged at all. I think I have found the culprit. In the event viewer I am getting tons of errors from RapiMgr service not responding. Also, I cannot stop the service or terminate the process (WmdHost.exe) no matter how I try. I will restart and turn that service to manual startup now and see if I still get this problem. It doesnt happen all the time, but now that I think about it it may correspond with times where active sync wont connect for some reason (ie everything working fine but no active sync connection -> put it to sleep to go to class (takes forever) -> get home and plug in usb hub and nothing connects).
Anybody else have this issue? Was there a recent update to WMDC?
I'm also using the official Win7 beta, and I had a problem with WMDC when I first installed it. It wouldn't acknowledge that I plugged in my phone. I got really frustrated looking for a solution, and after a lot of cursing, investigating, and more cursing, I finally just uninstalled it and installed it again.
And if you can't uninstall it because you can't stop the process, try booting into safe-mode if you haven't already. If you don't know how to boot into safe-mode, hit F8 while booting Windows to have boot options come up, then select safe-mode. I haven't tried with Windows 7 as I haven't needed to, but in previous versions of Windows, I believe that was the key to press. Hope that solves the problem,
Dave

Thanks for the suggestions. There was no need to boot into safe mode as the process doesn't hang right after a reboot. It seemed to only start after running for a while. After rebooting I just uninstalled WMDC. I will see if the problem happens again but I am 90% sure WMDC is the problem. The question is just why would RapiMgr just start hanging all the time last week and continue to do so after a reformat? Perhaps the ROM that I am now running confuses activesync enough to cause it to freeze the process on my computer? I can't remember when exactly I started using this ROM. Hmmm. If I dont get the problem for a few days I think I will reinstall WMDC and then disable advanced network functionality in USB to PC on the device.
BTW, when I reformatted I decided to go to W7 build 7068. Not really any noticeable changes I dont think, but a nice new login screen background. MS did a very nice job with W7. So polished looking and a joy to use.
Hi, my Fuze will not connect with active sync. it wont even be recognized on my computer so i cannot use it as a disk drive either. It does recognize that it is charging but wont connect! ive tried a hard reset and still no help. i cannot flash a new rom or anything because it wont connect! im not sure if it is the rom or not because it was working and suddenly it just disconnected and i cant connect since. is there anything i can do please help!
Only time i had this problem, was when i first bought the fuze. I had already had a kaiser sychned up w/ active synch. However i see now winmo has a device manager type of thing you can download, im guessing that will help using two devices.
did you or do you synch another winmo device on the same computer?
I have the same problemafter a reset. From the Start menu go to Settings and then select the Connections tab. Click on the "USB to PC" icon. Under ActiveSync uncheck the "Enable advanced network functionality". Active Sync should work properly.

I arrived here fifteen minutes ago with the same problem of USB not doing anything.
I read this above but UNticked the "enable faster data synchronisation and then it worked. Some things drive you mad.
But still greatfull for the tip

I can no longer sync
Hi,
I also can no longer sync. I have just unticked the 'enable faster data connection' as suggested and it still doesn't work.
I bought a UK T-Mobile Vario 4 last week. I downloaded and changed the ROM to PROven ROM 3.1 a couple of days ago, and all was fine until this afternoon.
I have done a soft reset - not worked. rebooted PC - not worked. Ended partnership on Windows Mobile Device Center (I run Vista) - not worked.
HELP. I am a newbie and not technical, though I somehow managed to change the ROM after lots of attempts.
Any ideas anyone?
Thanks for your help

"One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it. Try reconnecting the device. If Windows still does not recognize it, replace the device."
Any ideas???
Thanks

I just had this problem last week! All of a sudden windows couldn't recognize the usb device. Very EASY fix. Reseat your Micro SD card, it worked for me the first try. Hope this helps!
I preface this by saying that I was at one time able to sync my phone with my pc, but I have been trying to sync my samsung epix recently and just can't get my vista 32bit pc to recognize my phone. I have uninstalled and reinstalled modem drivers and wmdc a dozen times, (following samsungs directions to a "t"), and wmdc still shows "not connected". I have tried changing the settings in the phone, and pretty much followed all of the directions I could find on the net. the closest I get now is "connecting" on wmdc. Eventually it gives me an error message. The thing I don't get is that in the wmdc connection settings, it does say "connected" when I have the usb to pc "enable advanced network functionality" unchecked. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated, or even if someone can point me in the right direction.
Thanks
PS I have re-installed windows, repaired windows, soft rest my phone, and hard resets with the same results.

Hi everybody
I have an HTC Fuze (ATT). The ROM I used was NATF v5. series. I tried a couple of days ago to sync it with my computer but it gave me an "USB device not recognized" message. I did a hard reset but it didn't change anything. I changed the "Energy" rom, but I had the same problem. I tried now to sync the phone with another laptop but I have the same message, so something happened with the phone. What I noticed was the fact that actually when I hard reseted, I still had the NATF 5.series screen shot, even if the rom was the energy one. I appreciate each answer as I don't know what I can do more.

Had you try other cables Sir?
NATF splash screen will remain there, because when you flash Energy ROM, it didn't contain splash screen, so it wouldn't be replaced.
I tried a different cable, as well as a different computer. On the new computer there was no previous activesync installed. This led me to belive that there is a problem in the registry somewhere, but I don't know what to change. I also installed the Activesync 4.5 several times. on the ald and new computer, but nothing helps. No firewall active.

<- same problem
Anybody has any ideas?
What about using other phones, if it's okay then the problem was on Your phone, vice versa.
In my opinion, to get phone connected, we must have Activesync (for Win XP) or WMDC (for Vista) installed, good cable (original preferred) and good phone condition (H/W or S/W)
Hope You solve it soon Sir.
I have reinstalled the ATT rom, but is still gives me a "USB device not recognized" message. So I think something is wrong with my phone. Is there any way where I can clean up the whole registry and start from a clean fresh phone?
Still not working.
I had a simmilar problem a long time back.... How I fixed it was I deleted that connection setting for that phone in activesync... Then rebooted...Try to connect it then... If it still doesn;t work, UNINSTALL activesync... reboot... reboot again for good measure.. then reinstall it... reboot... Then try to connect again.... a lot of steps, but it worked for me when I put a diffrent on an old phone I had...
OK, some updates. I tried syncing with another laptop and it is not working. I tried doing the same thing with an Apple comp and it doesn't even see it as an usb device. However I tried syncing wifi with my gmail account and it is giving me the following error message: "The configuration on your Exchange server prevents you from synchronizing. Support code: 0x85010004". So I think there is a setting I don't know how to change.
