HTC 5800 bell Mobility (SMT5800BM) - General Topics

Hi,
I was browsing through your site and I was wondering wether some of the mods and hacks work on this phone. Plus, how do you edit the registery on this phone?
Transmico

Most registry hacks will work, although I am unsure about heavy-duty stuff like loading ROMs and such. You can download and use PHM registry editor right on your phone -- it works just like the regular Windows regedit

GPS and wifi capability
Hey Joe,
Thank you for the reply, do know if this model comes with builting GPS and Wifi. I installed PHM registry editor and I searched for the Keys in regards to the Wifi and GPS and I see them "GPSONE" and "Wifi" but I don't know how to enable them. Any Ideas?

Registry Wizard for WM6

Hi all,
Is there a sort of a Registry Wizard (the kind that let you enable/disable features by drop down menus) available for WM6? I couldn't find it mentioned anywhere
Me too
I am looking for the latest version too.
RegWiz
must admit I noticed the wm6 roms dont tend to have it. Saves hacking the reg by hand doesnt it.
ive just used the old one and it works just fine. i use it mostly to turn off the message sent crap. Havent had any problems with it at all.
Guys,
Check it out Tweaks2k2. I've been using since WM5 and works fine over WM6. It's all compatible.
http://www.tweaks2k2.com/portal/staticpages/index.php?page=20050224182009983
Yeah thats a nice program but it also cost money. And at the rate i flash phones just not economical for me. Registry wizard works awesome with the WM6 Roms.

Dial-up Networking Via Bluetooth Under WM5 AKU3 / WM6: WORKING at last!! A MUST!!!

Anyone having read my article New dial-up networking model of the WM5 AKU3 – a must if you use your WM phones as modems knows WM5 AKU3 (and, of course, WM6) has dramatically changed the way dial-up networking is handled – not necessarily in the good direction. (Please DO read the article if you don’t have a clue what I’m referring to and you would ever want to use your Windows Mobile handheld as a cellular modem!)
Microsoft, so far, haven’t really done anything to the problem, except for publishing an article (also discussed for example HERE). Therefore, hackers needed to concentrate their forces on solving the problem. After the first failed attempts (for example mine, as is explained in the first-linked article), at last, some excellent XDA-Developers folks have managed to enable this feature with a comparatively easy-to-do hack. I’ve developed the hack further, making it compatible with several handheld models and ROM versions (the previous version available at XDA-Developers doesn’t support the Universal, Wizard and, probably, several other models because it doesn’t do any forced Registry import – it might only be compatible with the P3600.)
The hack makes it possible to use most WM5 AKU3 / WM6 devices in the traditional (pre-WM5 AKU3) DUN dial-up method, in addition to the new, in WM5 AKU3 introduced Internet Sharing.
This means you can use BOTH technologies and can have the advantages of BOTH approaches. With the “traditional” DUN dial-up, you still have the freedom of NOT having to manually start / reconnect Internet Sharing AND the ability to use clients not supporting the BT Personal Area Network (PAN) profile required by the new Internet Sharing. And, as Internet Sharing is still supported, you can still have a real internet sharing approach, making it possible to use the Internet on both the Windows Mobile device acting as a modem and the client that connects to it (and can still have the other goodies Internet Sharing also offers: for example, the accessibility of the phone even with an ongoing Internet session.)
Again, it’s almost impossible to emphasize how important, how revolutional this hack is! If you’ve EVER tried to use your WM5 AKU3 / WM6 Windows Mobile phone as a modem you know Internet Sharing can be a REAL pain in the back, particularly if the client you’d like to use it from doesn’t support BT PAN.
Installation
Import THIS registry import file (via, say, the brand new, EXCELLENT desktop-side Registry editor of SOTI’s Pocket Controller 6) and copy the contents of THIS file to the \Windows directory of your Windows Mobile device. Soft reset your device and voliá: after this, clients discovering the Bluetooth services your device provides will also see it offering the DUN service (in addition to the PAN one) as can also be seen in HERE.
After this, everything will work just great – as in the pre-AKU3 days. Follow for example THIS tutorial on using DUN modems if you don’t know how it’s done.
Problems
It’s incompatible with some HTC Wizard ROM versions, namely, the official AKU 3.3 T-Mobile ROM – see THIS. It, however, has no problems with mfrazzz's XDA Mobile 6 Release 2a Full at all.
It seems it’s incompatible with WM6 MS Smartphones (Windows Mobile Standard). I’ve tested this on my HTC Vox (S710).
Compatibility
In my tests, it worked just great on my HTC Universal (WM6 Midget version) and HTC Wizard (WM6 mfrazzz version 2a). A lot of people have reported other success stories; for example, with the AKU3 HTC Trinity (P3600).
Verdict
Again and again: if you EVER plan to use your handheld as a modem, this hack is a MUST!
Linux and Bluetooth DUN hack
I have verified that this hack works on XDA6R2a. I encourage all to implement it. I have a few cheap $5 bluetooth dongles that refuse to use internet sharing because they all have the same mac id (11:11:11:11:11:11)....but they will connect fine using bluetooth dun which doesn't care about the mac id....my linux laptop was able to connect fine using Bluetooth DUN and my desktop which has a more expensive bluetooth dongle (translation: Not a cheap chinese copy) was able to still use internet sharing with no problem.
For rom cookers..the exe and both dll's can be upx'd and get roughly a 50% compression rate. I've tested the compressed files and they still work fine. For those installing in their existing rom and wanting to save space, make sure you compress before you install the registry and reboot as your two dll's will be in use after that.
This will be built into XDA Mobile 6 Release 3 for the Wizard (in Beta now and testing this feature and the other new features in this rom). Thanks for providing this info!
UPDATE (07/29/2007): I've tried to extract the DUN-related files from my WM5 AKU3 HTC Oxygen (s310) smartphone and put them on my WM6 HTC Vox (they are available HERE; I've also provided two Registry import files in the archive. The first, SPRegImp.reg, contains the original S310 Registry contents; the second, SPRegImp2.reg, has a much bigger HKLM\SOFTWARE\ Microsoft\ATCIUI\ Connections section).
Unfortunately, while, as opposed to the original case of trying to apply the PPC files, where not even the DUN service could be discovered, it seems it doesn't work: while the DUN service is already visible (as opposed to the original case using the PPC files), on my Vox, connection attempts fail with the same message as not importing the (original) Registry file on the Pocket PC.
I continue playing with the hack; hope I manage to achieve something. I still give you the extracted files so that you can also experiment with them. It MIGHT be working on your non-Vox Smartphohe.
Not works on WM5 TyTN - ROM 2.11.258.1
I followed the istructions of first post...
I tried to import the regitry key but PHMRegitryEditor returns me an error.
Then I put the 4 files in \Windows folder too
but nothing works...
Any idea to re-enable DUN on WM5 Hermes?
P.S.
neither "BT_DUN.cab", nor "WM6_BT_DUN.cab" (I found them on XDA Forum) works on WM5 Hermes

Plase do follow my earlier articles - in the Registry Editor Bible ( http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/menneisyys/UltimateRoundupOfRegistryEditors.asp ), I've explained why this is happening: PHM isn't compatible with RegEd 5 scripts.
Solution: use Resco.
Some CABs?
I tryed also with SOTI Pocket Controller Pro... Nothing to do!
It shoud be possible create a CAB installer for all devices, without using regitry editors, for this re-enabling operation? I'm not able.
Do you suggest Resco Regitry Editor for this case?

Anyway, don't forget to use the string
+cgdcont=1,"IP","APN_own_operator"
in modem advanced settings (on PC).

Not that important, as is also pointed out in my related tutorials. If you use *99#, the phone will use the default data account. No need for supplying anything extra.

It' s wrong... If I use only *99#, I'm not able to connect the phone to web...
But if I use the string, I can...
It's strange, but it happens.
Thanks so much for the bringing back the DUN to WM6. I can confirm that this setting works in my X01HT with official Dopod rom. I just use my default dial up string "*99#" for connecting my dell notebook to the internet. Only one thing to alter is the connection speed of my PC. I have to reduce the connection from 115200 to 19200 bps in order to have a stable connection.
One more thing to ask is when my DUN link is up, my phone's status display will not show any sign of a GPRS or EDGE connection as if there is no connection at all. Is that normal? Or, in other words, the PPC part of the PDA isn't aware of the phone part is making a connection ?
Follow up:
After testing it with other PC, this mod works on other desktop too. The port speed can maintain @ 115200. So, the slow down may be due to the BT setting @ my Dell notebook. I'll try to change the setting to see if it will improve or not.

It's no prob if you need to decrease the port speed - it'll have absolutely no effect on the real speed.
XM6R3 released with BT DUN hack installed by default
Just a quick note that mfrazzz has released the XM6R3 edition for the HTC Wizard (Tmobile MDA, Imate KJAM, Cingular 8125 etc) and it included bluetooth DUN by default along with regular internet sharing.
The link to the rom is in my signature.

thank you!! this is the firs time i've had some progress with connecting via DUN
it wasn't ever able to use DUN, until using your command.
now i have an other problem though:
my pc connects, writes "Registering your computer on the network...", waits for 20 seconds, and then times out.
any ideas?
EDIT: it works! i didnt know i needed to change "APN_own_operator" to my APN. i thought it was a constant variable that tells the PPC to dial the default APN.

As far as your phone is concerned..when you are tethered using bluetooth DUN it has NO gprs connection...thats one of the benefits of Internet sharing..both the phone and the tethered device can SHARE the internet connection....using Bluetooth DUN it's one or the other..not both.

Sure it is.
unfortunately this important hack has no effect with my universal (qtek 9000) with Aku 3.5 ITA by FLY rom.
How i can to use my universal as a gprs Bluetooth modem with this rom?
Thanks in advance.
Its stuff like this that must make phone carriers go nuts. IMO the fact that people here can't get their phones to work as modems is due to too much fiddling with the roms. Both my 3g phones work as modems out of the box in both ways (sharing and dial up) with no extra effort required. Any problems interacting with some pc seem to be due to the pc and not the ppc. I have 5 windows based computers at home and the ones that have working blue tooth can both use dial up. The rest that need the usb cable can only work with the sharing mode. There were no tricks to get it working - it just went.

How to Enable Cleartype in the Dopod C730?

Hi there,
----------------------
Well, after searching a little more on the Web I found it, and would like to share the method with you (since I couldn't find it here).
You need to create the ClearType key unde HKLM\System\GDI and under it create a new DWORD named Quality with a value of 4 (some sites say to use 1, I didn't try it). Reboot and voila, ClearType for you. It works under WM5 and WM6.
To disable it again just remove the ClearType key.
I Hope it helps.
----------------------
I managed to change the system font from the Nina (wich I don't like) to Segue UI, but I cannot find an option or registry key that allow me to enable Cleartype.
It works perfectly inside applications that manage this (mobipocket reader for example) but not in the User Interface and other applications.
Thanks agains,
hello there what app did you use to add the reg key? .. i tied using phm regedit and the resco regedit apps but none of them sees to allow me to add a new key to my registry .. thanks in advance

HD" Registry editor on Desktop PC

Hi everyone,
Is there a registry ediitor out there that can be used from my PC to edit the HD2 registry?
I've just reflashed my HD2 and tried restoring the registry but it wouldn't load, so have quite a few changes l'd like to do.
Thanks.
Owen.
Soti Pocket Controller allows this and a whole lot more. It's how I edit my Leo registry and is by far the best way. Unfortunately, it's commercial but has a demo for you to try.
http://www.soti.net/default.asp?Cmd=Products&SubCmd=PCPro
Thank you, l'll try it and see what it has to offer.
Owen.

[Q] Which registry editor do you use? | Common registry editor?

Hello xda-developers
I'd like to know if there's a common registry editor (or method) which gives full access on all Windows Phone 7 devices (HTC, Samsung, LG, ...)? It really would help me with my tutorial (which is already on in the development section - just needs some improvement)
If there's no tool which can do it, please tell me which phone model you have and which registry editor you tried and like
I'd really appreciate your help Thanks in advance!
I think there are registry editors for WP7, but they only work on developer or unlocked phones. Normal marketplace certified apps aren't allowed to manipulate registry in that way.
By the way: how does this unofficial registry editor work? Usage of private API involved?
Yes, it's homebrew and not allowed on the marketplace. And I guess the unofficial registry editors work with those private API's.
Well, still searching for a good method to edit registry on all devices By the way: Does someone know a good registry editor for HTC devices?
hello,
btw, is there a reg editor for HD7 that will give access to the 'access restricted', so as to be able to do some of the recomendations? It seems everyone is seeking a solution, but I didn't see any real answer or programs out there to do...
just that hb for the samsung...
hope someone has an answer soon..
thanks
Well, I'm not into registry editors for HTC devices, but maybe someone can help you By the way, it's important to tell us what version of WP7 you use (7004, 7008 or higher..)
Thanks
