Installing HTC Home - General Topics

I'm sure many of you have seen and heard this question before, but I have searched all over and don't seem to be able to find:
1. Where to get the latest version of HTC Home. Evidently there are many versions. Being as I'm running WM6 on my mogul, I guess I'm looking for the latest compatible version. I have found JUVS_HTC_Home_Sprint_Plugin_v1_0_824711-0.cab and HTCHomePlugin.cab. I think the shorter filename is an earlier version, but I can't tell you why I think this. Maybe the context where I found it.
2. Instructions on how to install this stuff I have downloaded. What am I supposed to do with these .cab files?
Please excuse my ignorance and the redundancy of this question. I'm pretty new to all of this stuff.
thank you,
TC Harp

ok heres where i got mine i think http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-htc-home-plugin-v1-0.html
now go to start / my computer / open up your phone (should be at the bottom) and place the cab file in the "my documents" folder..run the cab file and once its finished restart your phone and should be working

Well, it seems to be working. The longer filename was a quick launch only. The other file is working better for me. Now if I can just find how to change from Celsius to Fahrenheit on the weather.
Thank you,
TC Harp

after its setup go to the weather tab and click on your city , after that when it displays all the citys go to menu, weather options and switch it to fahrenheit

On the weather tab click on your city name. You will see the "Select City" page. Click "menu" on the bottom right. Click "Weather Options". Click Temperature scale: Fahrenheit. Click done at the bottom of the screen.

Everything is working great. Thanks everyone. Now I'm trying to figure out how to change the quick lunch buttons. This version of HTC Home is suppose to allow for that.
Edit: I have found HHC ver. .08 that performs many functions for me. This one is gonna take a minute to learn.
Thanks,
TC Harp

HTC touch Today plugin (Not able to retrieve weather)

I installed teh touch today plugin, but when I was going to sellect my city it was not in the list. Then I tried the same as alanp23 sugested in: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=310661&highlight=accuweather
I allso tried to change the settings directly in the registry, but still no luck...
Tried to type the same as alan23 (<city name="Helsinki, FI" locationcode="EUR|FI|FI002|HELSINKI"/>) and it worked fine, but when I type in my location in Norway "EUR|NO|NO007|SUNNDALSØRA" I get "Unable to retreive data for selected city" I allso tried other cities in Norway, but got the same error...
Someone who got a tip?
MOD EDIT: Please post in the proper place and don't start a new post until you've at least read through the first page. I found these three different posts in the Wizard Mobile 6 child forum and NONE of them had anything to do with Windows Mobile 6 in particular.
did you try editing the xml file instead?
Weather for HTC Home plug-in (Merged from 3 separate threads)
Hi All,
I have just put together a .xml file for the New HTC Touch Today plugin's weather feature! This file contains UK Citys Only, just thought it would come in useful, just copy it into your Windows directory on your device and away to go! Please make a backup of your existing file.
Also does anyone know how to change the Temperature measurement from fahrenheit into degrees celcius? The options button on the today menu screen in control panel is greyed out.
Thanks
AJ.
When selecting the citie you want, you have options, and this is explained in other thread.
A lot's of threads about the weather panel are being created because lots of people don't search before post!
Yes, as "alanp23" suggested.
After I wrote my post I read that some people allso had problems adding smal cities... Strange
thanks and Doh!, i did search but could not find any threads which told me how to change it, but thanks anyway.

How can change weather Unit for HTC Home plug-in
hi all
i installed HTC Home which have weather panel.
the question is: is there any way to change the unit from Fahrenheit to centigrade !!
Tap where city is listed then menu in lower right corner then weather options
I don't know about centigrade (never heard of)
But for Celsius go to:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\HTCHome\Weather\Settings]
Create a new DWORD-Value called "Celsius" value "1"

Andrew - thanks for the file - saved me a lot of bother. BTW I have read numerous posts about messing with the registry. I found the UI easier. When you select the city in the dialogue box use the menu command in the bottom right then select weather options - its a radio button selection - so much for the geeks solutions

Centigrade & Celsius are the same. Centigrade was widely used in the past, but not anymore.

Customizing X7510 "Big" HTC Home

I have been looking for some tools for customizing HTC Home, which comes from Athena X7510 official ROM. You can find it in some cooked roms for X7500/x7501 as well, but this "big" version of Home plugin was first introduced in X7510, I think.
Well known HHC could be used for this, but there is no proper grafic files for this version of Home plugin. The files should be of proper size, as we are talking about VGA and biger version then the one from other phones.
I have prepared one small set of files for myself and am posting them here, so others can use them. Maybe others could do the same so we could bulild a set of graffics to be able to change our HTC HP.
The background is based on Poorlyduck's Background (thanks to Poorlyduck) and the clock is made out of Segoa Bold Gray Shaded delivered with HHC (thanks to emunutz).
I have attached my screen and grafics which can be used in HHC or copied directly to the folder where your HTC Home is installed (by default in Windows folder).
Edit:
All of you who can contribute with their work, please feel free and join here.
Edit2:
Attached Files contain HTC Dimond clock described in my post #6.
Does this mean if I copy and paste the files you provided I could make it look exactly as the screen shot? To which folder exactly? Is it as easy as selecting it off the today screen settings?
How did you show the time and Main Memory at the top bar together?
What is HHC?
Is there a way to change the color to all black?
How come you also have TABS on the top part? Is that part of the files you provided? How can I have those TABS?
Are you using Real VGA? If YES, will your files work with Real VGA at 96 dpi or do we have to use it at 196 dpi?
Sorry for the numerous questions...

My screen is build with some special soft which I use in all my phones.
On top bar i use WKTask, gprs connection monitor and pBar.
The last one is showing time and memory in right top corner. It's main perpouse is more or les the same as WKTask but I like them both. WKTask is bestin closing apps but pBar gives you some other things like showing time and memory.
HTC Home is standard Today plugin. It does not give you those upper tabs. I use UltimateLounch (UL) for it. You can build tabs with normal icons/links to apps on your Athena, but also you can use Today plugins as tabs or combunation of Today plugins and sections with normal icons. The best is that you can use gestures to change from one tab to the other and it can show you a cube efect switching to the oter tab.
Hope this helps.
Edit:
All of this should work in realvga. I did not test it in this Athena, but the same config have used in my old x7500 with realvga 128dpi and it was fine. Now have decided that I prefer finger touch then density, so did not install realvga on my new x7510.
HHC is HTC Home Customizer by emunutz.
Thank you for clarifying everything. I'm going to check out Ultimate Launcher.
I also found pBar 1.5. Is this the version you are using?

HTC Dimond style clock
I have resized HTC Dimond clock made originaly by Ipaso.
It looks nice on HTC (black) them and Poorlyduck's backround. HTC theme was moded a little. As always I use UL as main organizer of my screen.
All files are for portrait and landscape.
Edit:
I have updated my attached file in my post #1. HTC Dimond by Ipaso is now fixed to solve the problem of small "0" in landscape and 12 hours type clock. Bug found by robjhellis (thanks).

Tadeuz, I've copied your Diamond Diamond Clock on to my 7510 and in landscape the first digit is about half ther siz of the other three. In portrait they are all tye same size. Any thoughts on why this might have happened?
Also, any chance to give us a run down on the settings for Ultimate Launcher to get the top selection bar. Just cannot work it out.
Very many thanks.

I have no idea, what happened. You mean all digits on first place are smaller then the other 3 places, no matter what the actuall digit is at the momment?
If so then it means there is some problem with HTC Home Plugin. Are you sure, you are using the same version of Home Plugin as mine. Are you on X7510 or the older Advantage? If so then you could have some older "small" version of Home plugin.
Try to compare your screen with mine. In landscape you should have the clock on left side and messages infro on right side, not under the clock, as it is in other versions of Home plugin.
Talking about UL, there is good source of info at this place: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2134341&postcount=1
I could give you mine setup file but I use a lot of specific icons and links, as well as some today plugins, which you could not have on your device. I have noticed that UL could hang up if you load a setup file with links to non-existing apps or today plugins. This would mean a hard reset if you do not have some special recovery software on your device and some additional knowledge, how to get out of such situation.
before you start to fiedle with UL config make a backup of working config (UltimateLounch.ini file). In case you get stucked, you can go into recovery state and return to this working config. Of cource backed-up file should by on your device, not on your PC.
Generaly, before you start to add a today plugin to UL config, you have to deactivate it in Today setup, so it is inactive. Then you can add it to some tab in UL setup.
In may case, my Today screen have only two active plugins, UL and callendar (as this is not working in UL). The rest plugins I have on particular tabs in UL. You also can set one tab as a default one, so it is always shown when the system starts.
You can use icons taken from the app, or you can prepare or use special icons for each app link (when preparing tab for app links).
Hope this helps.
Tadeusz you have given me a lot to digest. Much of it will need to wait until the weekend as the week is going to be busy at work. Thank you for your input.
Re the 1st digit. I can now report that it is only the zero that is the small size. When the 1st digit changes to a one then everything is of uniform size. I am running in 12 hour mode whereas I see your image is showing a 24 hour version. I'm, therefore, seeing the zero more often than you would see. Of course I never see a two in 1st place using the 12 hour clock. Other than that the clock and message set up is the same as yours. My device is the x7510 and I have applied auswims' color icons (post #9). Thanks for any further thoughts you may have.
I've attached a screenprint showing the small zero.

Problem with Duttys Task Mamager

Hi, I've installed Duttys Task Manager, but it doesn't appear in the start menu, or in "Tools", but it does appear when I look to uninstall it from Start>Settings>Application>Manage application>Remove
I've tried several times with and without soft reset, but it's always the same.
It doesn't appear in File Explorer on the HD2, or Explorer on my desktop machine either (Vista Ultimate, 32 bit).
I'm also running these programs:
Two Peaks Billrate
eWallet
Gyrator2
Mobireader
Start Menu Grid 4
SPB Time3 (Demo)
TCPMP_netDrg V2
? Duttys Task Manager?
The end result I'm trying to achieve is to stop Gyrator2 exiting when I end all tasks from the task manager. I understand that Duttys Task Manager will let me do this.
Any ideas or alternative suggestions? Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi. I think you cannot choose what programmes remain running with the task manager(Duttys)unless you close each app individually(leaving Gyrator running)
Hi, thanks for your reply. This is what I'm doing at the moment - closing each app individually - but I thought I'd read somewhere on the forum that Dutty's had an exclusion list. Maybe I'm wrong, in which case I won't bother with Dutty's at the moment. It's not that big a deal, but I only find out that Gyrator's not running when I need it. Cheers.
Hello again. I think you could use another task manager called showacase or showcase. That app has a config option.I'm not at home at the moment but i thnk i have it. once i get home, ill upload it for you.
Use the Touch X Task Manager. You can find it here...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=584415
It gives you a task manager available from Sense (top-right corner). If you go into settings (click the wrench icon) then you can select any running app and add it to the exclusions list.
Hope this helps
Thanks rumz82 and johncmolyneux. I HAVE got Dutty's Task Manager after all. Like the Touch X Task Manager it creates a drop-down menu in the top right corner where several options are offered. I must be blind 'cos I didn't notice it! I haven't tried the options yet because I didn't want to waste any more of anyone's time. I'll let you know how I get on. Thanks again.

Heh - glad you found it okay. And I'm sorry mate, but LOL!!
I also like the word "mamager" thread title. It sounds like something for keeping boobs in order
Hum, yes, I see what you mean!
I'm not a very good typist, and sometimes a bit dyslexic. I usually rely on the spell-checker where I've put in all my usual mistakes for auto-correction. Another reason is that I usually work on my computer with an A4 pad in front of the keyboard for taking notes, and this doesn't give me a very good typing position. When I remove it I'm a lot more accurate, but I need it when I'm in problem-solving mode. Cheers.

I've noticed your credit in the work with Co0kie.HomeTab_v1.6.1. I've read the posts and I'm very interested in getting more quicklinks on my home page, and more appointments too. First of all, I'm glad you got your original issue sorted, and I'm happy to help
Secondly, Co0kie's Home Tab will modify the Sense Home Tab so that you can have multiple pages of quicklinks, ranging from 3x3 to 5x5. All the settings are registry entries, and that's where I came into the story. I made the CHTEditor which gives you the ability to change all the settings that Co0kieMonster made available to us, but via a GUI.
The GUI is unfortunatly a bit lacking in some respects (you have to click some things two or three times before they work; certain things are difficult to change etc.), but that will be resolved in the next version. The current version does work, and obviously makes it a lot easier to set up Co0kie's most excellent mod.
Have fun playing with your new home tab. It made my phone easily twice as useful!
Had the same issue. For me Duttys Task Manager just didnt show up in the right corner after installation.
But it showed up after the installation of another app.
For me i also felt that my battery drain was faster with the task manager AND after bootup it takes way longer until Sense is fully reacting on my input with it installed.
So i uninstalled it and now im using the Task Manager that comes with the HD2.
I have a shortcut in the Co0kies Home Tab to it and everytime im finished with an app i open the task manager and close all running apps. Simple but good
Thanks dameon12 - maybe I wasn't so blind after all! I'm not away from my charger for very long at the moment so I'm not able to comment on the battery life. I installed Dutty's Task Manager to stop Gyrator closing so that my screen will always change from portrait to landscape for applications where a wider screen is more useful - in my case, spreadsheets.
I'm experimenting in using my phone to send information I collect in my work back to base so I don't have to carry a laptop with me. I'm designing the spreadsheets to fit the screen in landscape mode.
Thanks also for the info about Co0kie's Home Tab. I'm going to experiment with that in a few days time when I've got a bit more time.
Cheers.

Ignore that - it's nothing to do with what you're asking. That advice is only for modifying the wallapaper, not the weather on the clock.
There's no 100% foolproof way of getting rid of that weather display, other than a blag. Set the clock location set to "my location" and use the disable my location cab from the bottom of the second post in the hints and tips thread that is stickied at the top of the HD2 general forum. This will only work if the "my location" thing has never worked. If you've ever had weather updates for that location then this simply won't work.
If you ever change your clock location it may start showing weather there again though. If that happens, get used to it.

There was a long thread about this when the HD2 first came out, and people ended up hacking dll files that worked on some devices and forced other people to hard reset, so I'd avoid that like the plague! It's not something that I'm interested in, as I find that area of the screen looks bare without it, so I've not paid much attention to discussions in that area. I still don't think there's been a 100% solution though.

Change hex layout back to square?

Hi!
How can I change the hexagonal icons layout in the Start and Settings menu ("Honeycomb") back to the square layout? The hexagonal makes me feel dizzy.
Thanks
It's nearly impossible to do that, since the code for the hexagon layout is hidden deeply.
There are a lot of .cabs for that kicking around. What kind of phone.

Thanks
I spent about an hour searching via Google
Phone - Xperia X2.
It is enough to just point me to the right registry value, if there is any.

I think I understood your question then... you mean the start menu, don't you?

Yes, the Start Menu and Setting menu. Sorry for not being clear
OK, no problem. Well I'm surprised that Denko is saying that there are a lot of cabs for that, because as far as I know, it is not possible.
Will await his reply then.
OK, I'v found something. A small configurable application called XTask, download link here.
Btw, if you don't know where to start, just click on the taskbar and drag the line down. The XTask Settings allow you to configure its internal menu and also replace the Start Menu entirely with its own diagonal icon layout.
Alternatively in its settings set it so its file manager starts when clicking the Start Menu icon and browse to Windows\Start Menu\Programs directory. It is normally alphabetically sorted and you can arrange shortcuts to various subfolders. It can be even more easily done with Total Commander or from PC.
And for phone settings click on Control. It arranges icons by same strange order, probably like the original Start Menu, but maybe I'll find how to change that.
