Hello I have a was just wondering, when you go to a phone company like cricket or pocket to get a phone flashed..what does flashing actually do?and can you do it yourself or does it have to be done by the company your flashing to?

I currently have an LG Thrill 4G, honestly I regret getting this phone. Prior to my opinion, is it worth it? I'm serious about it but need some hardcore opinions before rolling the dice. I recently had to complain to my dad about seeing how much the phone screws up battery life, data, etc....
The G2X is ROOTED, I think I may want to UNROOT.
But I've gotta flash from T-Mobile to AT&T. Is this a hard process? Everyone's telling me it's awful simple but I'm quite unaware of how to flash. And he explains it as being quite easy in this message: Text Below.
Eric Hogan: I’ve already taken care of that. The phone is rooted with CWM already installed. At this point all you have to do is download a ROM, restart into recovery (that’s in the power menu) and install zip. As far as your carrier vs mine. Once you get the unlock code – you turn the phone off – insert your ATT sim – the phone will prompt you for a sim code – enter the code – and now you’re on ATT.

Hey everyone. Long time lurker, but I've come to this incredible community with a puzzle hopefully one or two of you could help with.
..or at the very least, explain why it cannot be done.
So I have had a friend's XT926 for the past week and have persistently been attempting to flash it is line with Cricket. Full disclosure: I am an employee of a PWS franchise of Cricket Communications… I have performed full flashing on just about every Android out there, most notably the RAZR (XT912). When I am stumped, we use technicians from FlashToTalk, they're usually quite competent. Neither their staff nor I have had even an inkling of success with this device.
When the phone is provisioned and everything writes, the phone reacts fine. Except upon restart, it reverts back to its Verizon programming.
I have even used the RAZR M technique of editing the NV value to unlock the GSM modem for domestic use (
had I the money I would buy this phone for myself for HSPA+ use with AT&T.)
Obviously, this doesn't affect the CDMA modem. What is the issue that is preventing us from flashing the device?
Any support is greatly appreciated, I personally find it sinister that VANQUISH is so unbelievably resistant to reprogramming. How can I go about flashing this beautiful device to another CDMA carrier?
Hey everyone and thanks for taking the time to read this,
So the story goes as so: After doing some research couple months ago about the capability of the Verizon Galaxy S3 to work on T-mobile, i purchased it, and got it to successfully work on T-mobile(texts, calls, wi-fi). The problem is, i just recently upgraded to include a data plan, and i cannot access the internet, despite taking my phone to my cell phone dealer and contacting T-mobile.T-mobile even sent me a guide to do a mastery reset to factory in hopes to solve this problem, only to tell me afterwards that the phone version SCH-I535 is a "verizon locked-software" and i won't be able to set up an APN to work on the T-mobile network. This was all due to the fact that i was not able to set up a APN for T-mobile, and every time i tried to access it through setting, it brought me to a blank black page with the only option of "Reset to Default". After reading other forums and talking with some people, many have suggested i take this issue to XDA to find a solution.
So, here i am.....Does anyone know if it is possible for me to break/root/ or whatever it is called so i can successfully access the t-mobile network on my phone? Preferably an easier guide since i am sort of a newbie at this sort of stuff.
Thanks again for reading.
I bought a phone pre-flashed to Verizon prepaid off of Craigslist. I am unsure how to flash and lost the person's number. So, could anybody direct me to a site for a walk through for the Flash process. I'm still looking into it and so far I've found the name of a software "QPST" and a google search leads me mostly to discussion about it in use, rather than how to use and if I will need anything more.
I'd like to do Flash another phone as well as if possible remove this phone's flash update it it (for KitKat) then flash it again. As it seems I cannot update otherwise.
Update: I've recently read about CDMA workshop. Still looking for a download link though, not going to pay $200 for something like this.
OK, this is going to sound weird but here goes. I know generally that once a phone is unlocked.. it stays that way. This is the first time I've ever experienced anything quite like this. I purchased a n920t used and unlocked.. once I tried the note 7 port, found bugs with different services crashing like "enhanced features".. I went to flash the n7 rom after a wipe. Didn't like that so decided to flash back the stock image.. the phone restarted saying it was Sim locked and to use the silly t-mobile app to u lock it. Well I'm in Canada, won't unlock or even try via WiFi and you must have a connection to their data network to try.. purchased a remote unlock service.. unlocked no problem. Played around trying to debug the note 7 port and tried a couple of older rom ports for the phone and relocated again. After I spoke with the tech that was unlocking my phone AGAIN.. he said that the new "remote unlocking" type phones unlock via the modem... long story short.. you have to be very careful that you don't load a locked or blocked modem via rom image or you will wind up relocking your phone.. at least that's been my experience. Of anyone else has had this type of problem with the new style of unlocking.. please chime in.. I would love to know how deep this problem goes and if this is going to be an ongoing problem if modem change is necessary.
