VPN and shared folders - General Topics

I have been reading for about 4 hours on how to setup a VPN with the pocketpc. I have seen a program that will add a folder into explorer that is a share once your hooked up via the VPN. Does anyone have a good resource on how to hook this up?

File Explorer & Shares

Hi all,
First post here.
Anyway, i have recently got a Vario and i have sucessfully connected it up to a latop wifi via an ad hoc setup. Anyway, i know its working properly because i can view webpages that are being dished up via a webserver installed on the laptop (using IP address as the url).
Anyway, i now want to copy some files off the laptop (via a shared folder). I have opened up file explorer and selected browse path and then entered the ip address and the share (\\192.168.0.1\share). However, WM5 does not want to connect to it saying that it cannot find the server.
Is this a known issue with the file explorer? :?:
Cheers
Okay, found the problem now. Aparently you have to use the actually names instead of IP addresses.
I have tried endlessly trying to get this to work but I can't. My pc is connected to my wireless router by wire and my wizard by wifi an I'd like to access my PC files from my wizard (and the other way round if possible) Do I need an Ad-hoc connection for this? I have tried using resco, Gsfinder+, total commander and the built in file explorer to map a network drive but it never works. TC and GSfinder say the usual connot connect bla bla and "Error 53". I have also tried setting my connection to connect to 'Work' but this had no effect.
I have enabled file and printer sharing on the PC, and shared the 'shared documents' folder. Then in 'My Network Places' I added the folder as a network place. The PC's name is 'Family' and the shared folders name is SharedDocs. If I right click on the folder (called 'SharedDocs on Family')and select properties, it says '\\FAMILY\SharedDocs' but If I try this on my wizard it does not work. What am I doing wrong? I don't get it?
Anyone any ideas?
Anyone?
Thanks in Advance
Problem fixed. Recently got a laptop, set up shared folders and printer sharing, then it started to work on my phone

Connecting Smartphone To Wi-Fi Network???

Can I reach to the files of my notebook with Wi-Fi smartphone in my wireless area? I want to perform a network between my smartphone and notebook with Wi-Fi network. Is it possible?
No on smartphone you cannot access files that are on your notebook.
Try a VNC (easy).
Start with something like this: TightVNC (free) as a server on your notebook and .Net VNC Viewer (free) as a client on your phone; read and play.
There is lag time in rendering on the little screen; not to mention that it's a little screen (you might tire of looking at it and/or navigating).
Another good client is VNC+; it worked best for me among the clients that I tried but there is a cost.
You will be able to access your notebook via any Wi-Fi connection provided that your server is running and connected to the internet.
Good Luck.
FTP is a good solution too.
Install a FTP server (I use free GuildFTPd) on your laptop, and create a user with access to all drives or folders of interest. Make sure that no acces from the internet is possible if not neede for security reasons. Use a strong password.
Use Resco Explorer or Total Commander as client. This way you can download or upload files from your laptop.

Files from Windows 7 to HTC Desire via WLAN?

I'm looking for some combination of software to transfer mp4 files over to my home as simple as possible. Right now I'm looking into 2 Apache servers on the phone itself.
Is there a better solution? Maybe some software that can read directly from a Win7 shared drive? Or even a good FTP client?
For transfer of single files, I allready have an apache server running on my laptop. I have AutoHotKey set up to automagically display QRCode for the url for a file I select in Windows Explorer.
For transfering more, I usually just use the USB cabel
I use swiftftp on my phone and use FileZilla on my pc to transfer
Estrongs file explorer can mount windows smb shares directly from the phone, with the user name and password, of a valid user that has access to the shared volumes.
Tested in win7 ultimate 64bit and vista with an htc desire.
You can't use the pc's netbios name to access the shares, instead you need to use its IP address in the estrongs dialog.
I have an stream portal running on my computer. Jinzora. But when I clicked on the download in Inbuild browser. Nothing happened. I tried with Opera Mini then and it opened a download but it never started to transfer. So I have to try to run apache on the phone itself.

Will try that to but I'm not sure what smb shares are. Are this normal shares when you click right click on a drive and share with advanced settings?
I dont have any users set. Just Everyone under premissions.
I actually always had problems to setup shares since Vista and upwards. Funny in XP they worked fine. Not parcticually with Win-Phone, but WInXP-WinXP.
thanks ... Estronge file explorer is excellent... works like a charm...
Yes this Estrong file explorer sees my both computer just fine. But When I try to connect it asks for a password and username. I never set any of this. Dont even know where to set it up.

It's a bit beyond the scope of this forum, but to create a new user or modify an existing one :
Open control panel and click user accounts, if there is a user already in the system (most likely there is), just create a password for him.
Logging through the network with the above credentials will give you access to the users home folder (C:\users\"username" without the quotes) by default.
