i know i read somewhere that when you run an Desktop installer through ActiveSync, there was a way to get the cab file from it. Cant find it now... how do ya do it?
In case it matters, this is for WM6.1 on my Titan with AS 4.5
nevermind. found a post on here with about 5 ways to do it. try some when i get home.

I've somehow goofed and deleted the default messenging client when I was trying out other alternatives. I ended up liking it better than the other solutions I tried and just want it back now. =\ Is there anywhere I can grab this (download, et cetera)? I can't seem to find it anywhere. Or, do I have to do a clean install to get it back? Is there a way to browse a ROM image to grab what I need from it? IE: the Messenging files only?
Thanks
Rireal
In Total Commander or whatever file explorer you use
In the address bar, Type:
Extended_Rom
Click on the Signed_OzPocketPC.Cab file.
Thanks for the reply. I was able to browe my extended ROM just fine but that file is not in there. I'm on a Wizard using a clean ROM which I would assume has something to do it.
Thanks
There is a link in the wizard forum that has the cab attached. Do a search there or try the Howard Forums T-Mobile Windows Mobile forum. I'm sure you'll find it....
Edit...
Here you go, about 3 post down...

Thanks, I've been unable to find the CAB file as of yet but I will keep searching.
edit: Thanks!
if you mean msn messenger then they prob only removed the shortcut
try looking in the win dir for the exe

Hi and welcome to the Forum,
have you tried to flash the Rom again, maybe that will help.
I tried searching, found this thread:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=310788&page=2 but it's not answering my question.
My Kaiser came with SPB GPRS Monitor and Sprite Backup. Both came as an installation disk (exe format) to be installed through a PC. Now, I'm looking at a way to make CAB for carrying both so that anytime I do a hard reset or reflash ROM, I can re-install both without using PC. Looking at the thread, I tried opening up the .exe and able to get the Cab files (there're 2, named 1 and 2 for each setup executable extracted), but copying the Cab and running it on my Kaiser won't work.
Is there any way? I try avoiding using 'cracked' cab apps .. I have it as bundled for the Kaiser, there should be a legit way for me to have it as cabs ..
There is a way.
run the installer from your PC. when the installation screen comes up asking you to choose between storage card and device, DONT CHOOSE. instead, run a file manager and search for the cab file. it usually goes either in windows/appmgr or in application data/volatile
What if in this case, it doesn't ask, it immediately says check your WM device, there's further instruction.
Second question: is the search done on the PC or the WM?
I'll definitely give it a try .. and thanks!
if u got activesync installed on your PC, run the exe files and find the .cab files on program files/microsoft activesync folder
semoga berhasil
Thank you. Terima Kasih Will give it a try
the cab file doesn't always appear on your PC.. but it does always appear on your PPC
look for it in your PDA when it tells you to look for further instructions..
WinRAR (rarlabs.com) is free and will extract most files from EXE installer archives. However, if WinRAR won't then UniversalExtractor will. You can search for it on google and download a demo.
THANK YOU
Thanks to all who has responded.
I managed to find the CAB files under PC's respective folders (Some are under Active Sync, some like Holux, created it's own folder). Tested some of the CABs found there and it worked. Now I'm a happy camper, got all of the CABS that I need (especially GPRS Monitor )
Last question:

Under which folder I should be looking? I tried TEMP but it's empty (that's before I confirming the install process)

I always do this to extract cab files from a exe installer and most of the time the cab file can be found at windows/appmgr/install
very useful and a serious time saver
Sticky or Wiki?
Thanks again for responses. I'm able to get what I need and believe this can be put as part of FAQ, Wiki or Sticky?
Sticky no.. but i will add it to the guides thread soon..
Hey.
In reference to this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/975281
Where is the file? I am in great need of this, and really cannot figure out what M$ wants me to do to get it.
Any help would be appreciated.
cab files are run on the pda
No, I need to get the hotfixed .NET CF cab file and install it onto the device.
I can't seem to find the cab installer that is listed in the table.
EDIT: (I need to download the fixed cab file, basically, so I can install it on my device)

Try this, I am pretty sure this is the file
http://rapidshare.com/files/77805623/NETCFv35.wm.armv4i.cab
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=2ZGV1DNJ
Google Search had results in 2 seconds
Thanks, I'll try those two and see if they work.
@cmstackar: Hehe, yeah, I'm never really sure which website will hit me with malware or not.
Neither one seemed to fix the problem (nor was exactly the size listed on the KB article), nor did about 4 others I dl'd and tried.
If anyone has a better way of solving this problem, let me know.
I really would like to be able to use embeded Pocket IE objects again...
I think they just dropped in a fix into the existing package, no version/name changes. I too am looking for this. The article indicates that the file is available but it's actually not!?
If anyone is still looking for this fix, you can request it here:
http://support.microsoft.com/hotfix/KBHotfix.aspx?kbnum=975281&kbln=en-us
You'll get a download link immediately (it worked for me, anyway).
Does anyone know of an app that I can run from my device (Tmo Wing w/WM6.5) that can extract the cab file from an exe file?
I don't have a desktop computer and I have a lot of executables that install through the pc that I would like to install on my device.
Or is there another way of installing these types of files?
Or can I just change the file extension?
exe files that run from your pc, actually store the cab on your pc and transfer it.
most files you need are probably in cab format on the web already.
the exe wont help if you rename it.
what it does is extract the files to
C:\Program Files\Microsoft ActiveSync\app name
Unfortunately, I don't have a computer at the moment. Had to send my motherboard back to the manufacturer to be repaired.
So I am not able to do it the way you mentioned. There's gotta be a way install with pc executables..
The main reason is I have the full version of Fade (ppc game) and I don't see it as a cab on the net anywhere.
If anyone would be willing to share the cab with me, I would be greatful.

Hi there, try what the guys have said above. Also please do not ask someone to provide a cab for a paid app/game, its against xda rules.
Be careful if your doing this, dont distribute the cab if you manage to extract it.
Cheers.
