What do you use to access MSN/AOL/Yahoo IM - General Topics

Basically as the title really guys. Im running WM6 on my hermes and dont live windows Live, i find it clunky and not reliable to use but want access to MSN messenger and similar IM services.
Ive downloaded and tried SLick which looks nice but often is giving me the following error "you have been disconnected msn. peer reset connection 10054". Other times it works fine, but this is a bit too unreliable for me to be honest.
Thoughts/recomendations welcome thanks.

well i recently stumbled across slick which I really like. Prior to that I tried Parlingo which while good, lacks features. IM+ was very good, but I refuse to use it since I can't click on links that people send me. Agile messenger was also very good, but that stopped working over Edge/3g, and now only works over Wifi, for no reason.
I think Agile is the best, considering its features, however its not free.
Overall, I have yet to be satisfied with any chat programs on Windows Mobile.

Thanks. Do you have any idea why SLICK is giving me the peer reset connection error randomly?
From the sounds of it il give IM+ a try as im not too fussed about links, more just reliable IM-ing.
I definatly second your least comment, heres hoping A_C can knock up slide to IM or similar for us!

Regedit and agile messenger

i hope this question isnt against the rules, honestly i dont even know where these rules are posted!
but... is there a way to use regedit on the tilt to change the registry to continually reset the remaining time on the agile messenger trial?
or.. are there any FREE AIM software for the tilt? IM+ and Agile Messenger cost money. and Fring doesnt have AIM! :/
this is what i use. been using this aim since my wizard days.
when i try to login it says.. "An unknown communications error occurred." and cant sign in
i actually paid the $45 for a lifetime membership of agile.
i was pissed cuz like 2 months later, i found a better and free program called palringo.
just recently i found an even better program and it's free. octro talk
http://www.octro.com/
octro talk is the best program so far.
just installed otro talk... it works and looks really good.
But i think i was multitasking on aim too fast. and the program froze and i couldnt reset it. (used task manager, clicking the x, closed through programs running)
Octrotalked slowed down my phone. I ended up going with IM+
im+ was the first one i ever tried. there was a crack for it on the torrent sites.
i thought it was horrible.
octro talk works fine on my phone. i use the aim and msn a lot and it never locked up on me.

Any 6.1 ROMS w/1.65.14.06 radio w/o impacting IM+

Almost every 6.1 rom I try I keep getting the typing screen in IM+ cut off which makes the program useless that I paid for awhile ago. I'm trying to avoid reverting to 6.0 roms since I'm loving the new 6.1 versions. I'm also trying to avoid low pagepools, I prefer either dynamic or 24+. Any help is greatly appreciated.
I'm using Dutty's WM6.1_5.2.19700 with the 1.65.14.06 radio. IM+ (version 5.1) is working perfectly fine, although I did experience the same "bottom of the screen cut off" problem with an earlier 6.1 ROM.
i'm trying to avoid this one since I don't like the performance of it, i tried 18,dynamic and 32mb pagepools and no satisfaction.I also like clean/lite versions so it doesn't install apps I don;t care for that I can work with as far as program installation but keeping necessity files.dlls, etc that shouldnt be cut off

Where did you get 5.1 from? The current version on Shape's site is 4.58.
there is no 5.1 yet, most recent released version is obtained at shapeservices.com
i am also having this problem... i wonder if this is cause by the rom itself or the radio.

This doesn't answer your question but in my quest for a 100% free PPC IM package, I stumbled upon http://www.palringo.com -- they have a cab for download and a pc version as well. It's VERY sparse but works and is 100% free...
NO -- I'm not getting anything for this nor am I a spammer. Just frustrated but no truly FREE PPC IM apps. Good luck solving your IM+ problem!
i used to use palringo and it's horrible (just my opinion). i currently use slick im and it may not be a pretty as palringo, but it works great. the downside is that there is no today plug in for it. you do get im notifications on the top taskbar via a little slick im icon. it also beeps and vibrates if you choose. their site is http://www.lonelycatgames.com
anyone let me know if this has changed, but the issue i had with palringo is that i keep getting booted from aim. when you set auto-reconnect it logs you in and out of aim all freakin day. my buddies that stay logged on while at work tell me that sometimes i'm in an out several times a minute.
the great thing about im+ and slick is that you log in directly to the im service of choice from your phone. with palringo, agile and ozim you log into their server and they log you into the service you select. i'm sure they don't keep your password in clear text or anything, but i don't like the idea of giving a middle man my password.
another plus for slick is that when you send a pic or file, it gets sent directly to your buddies im window. with oz you can't send anything at all since it's text based. with agile and palringo you end up sending links to their respective sites that your buddies have to go to to see pics and receive files.
another program is jive, but i haven't used this im so i have no comments on it. i may praise slick a bit (ok, a lot ), but i'll be switching back to im+ once shapeservices gets off their ass and fixes their program so that it works with all 6.1 roms. i paid $40 for the damn thing and i want to use it.
I've used palringo and slick, and IM+...IM+ has been hit and miss with most 6.1 ROM's I've used, but all of the Dutty roms i've used lately its worked with. I'm currently on Dutty's latest 19700 hyrid and it works perfectly. Much like the poster above me, palringo annoyed the hell out of me constantly disconecting me..I hate to say it, but I think slick is the best, its just so plain and ugly
I suck it up and use IM+, and besides no file transfers, I dont have many complaints
IM+ works on new L26 V4 ROMs (it does NOT work on Leo's V2 and V3 ones, but does on the V4). Not sure what he changed (and Leo didn't make a change because of IM+, but whatever difference there is, it now works). This doesn't use the radio you mentioned by default, but uses one of the newer WM6.1 radios.
Not really a true answer to the original question, but just wanted to mention this as an option.
Thanks for the tip. I'll try slick im! I'll try any FREE IM application.

IM+ works on 6.1 roms with OS base 19202, 19700 and 19716. You get that blank typing area with roms based on 19209 and 19213. Haven't tried 19900 yet.

Longtime Beejive IM User looking for similar program.

Alright, Beejive IM is pretty perfect - when it works. Lately it's not been working, forcing me to go looking for other programs.
1. I don't like programs that I need to create an account to sign in for. I am suspicious of them.
2. Most programs, especially the kind above, are ugly with a poor interface, lacking pretty basic features, and are slow.
So, no one say Palringo, that thing is HORRID! I can't believe it has any kind of following at all. I've tried Mundu, and the thing is awful. Unless I did something wrong, it's just terrible. Nimbuzz is too suspicious for me to try. I guess I can look at Fring again, but please. If anyone can show me a better Internet IM program, or some patches or a branch of Beejive IM, I'd be very grateful! Thanks!
glad im not the only one with beejive problems i couldnt figure out what was going on no buddies showed up in my list
sorry to say i use palringo :x
up for new suggestions as well though

I agree completely. Palringo brought my device to a crawl, and I really don't want to register for another service just to try it. When Beejive quit working, I found Slick (http://www.lonelycatgames.com/?app=slick). I've heard that it's Java based, but it runs like any other WM executable, and it runs pretty quickly. It also seems to be very UC / Sashimi friendly as all of its data and configuration are in a single directory tree.
I'll probably go back to Beejive once its working again, but Slick is the alternative I'm using for now.

What is the best IM for Vox

I'm searching a good IM which will support Gtalk & yahoo. I have tried few but none of them was good.
check out Slick (lonelycatgames.com) pretty simple, but does its job!
yeah slick isn't beta anymore
you might although try fring (dunno if it supports googletalk but its featuring filetransfair ;easy setup; you can even skype so call 4free if connected via wifi!) i'm happy using fring
i got problems with slick -.- cannot open the menu for more symbols, it briefly lights up and got back ! damn
nimbuzz is great
palringo too
which im works with gprs or edge
am using both palringo n fringr..both is nor working with gprs
In india data plans are very expensive so i want to im messenger that will take very minimum data usage So pls suggest accordingly that
May be you need to take a look at this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=323654
Finally i have settled for Beejive IM on vox it works very well. It's UI is greater than other paid im software. It is in beta still it works like stable version
It doesn't have ICQ though does it? Most of my IM contacts are on ICQ!
according to the site is does support ICQ, didnt try it myself yet
btw: if a tool mentions aol and not icq, it still works. just login to aol with your icq #

[Q] International Messaging Solution on Android

Okay, I've been looking for a good solution and haven't found one yet. I'm hoping some of the creative minds out here in the community can help me out.
I'm from the States, and I'm currently working in China. I'll be here for another 5 months or so. I'm a Nexus devotee, so I've got my Nexus 4 and my Nexus 7 here with me. The N4 goes everywhere with me, and the N7 is more of a couch/bed companion and a travel reader/movie player. I'm trying to find a good integrated messaging solution for communicating both with my colleagues and friends here in China as well as my friends and family back home.
When I first moved here, my plan was for Google Voice to be my solution. I had my cell number ported to Voice, and I have continued to use that for texts, voicemail, and VOIP calls using Groove IP. That has been a pretty handy solution, and it's nice that I can also access my messages when I'm sitting at my laptop through the Chrome extension. There are a couple of downsides to Voice though. The first is that it's kind of a clunky piece of software. It's certainly not sleek, and the syncing between devices can be a little hairy. I haven't figured out how to get a nicely functional inbox either. Google refuses to accept my China Mobile number for some reason, so I have to activate the app by using another friend's US number and then deactivating messages to her phone. Also, my friends and family members who are Apple users complain about the app being really poorly designed on Apple products. They don't actually need it of course (the reason I set it up was so my phone number would continue to work for everyone), but I can't control their end of it.
GChat/Talk is one option that I like quite a bit. It syncs really well between devices, and it's really clean and sleek. One issue I have with it is that, when my internet gets spotty at work (which is far too frequently), a message will sometimes arrive on my N7 at home, and I won't see it until I get home from work later that night. Also, once again, the Apple users hate this option because of the terrible choices on iOS.
In doing some research on some other options, I came across Kik, and I instantly fell in love. It's sleek like Talk with quick messaging, but it's more comprehensive with additional features and a better implementation of read/unread messages. I got it all set up on my N7 and was ready to tell everyone to sign up when I installed it on my N4. I looked at my N7, and I was back at the login screen. I logged in again and saw the screen pop up on my N4. The software does not support multiple devices. That's unfortunately a deal-breaker. Unless they fix that flaw, Kik is out the window.
I'm using mysms right now, and it's got potential, but I'm still not completely sure. I haven't really figured out the best settings to get it most effectively working with my China Mobile number and my Google Voice number. It's not as sleek and fast as Kik or Talk, and I've gotten some complaints from the Apple crowd about it not being very intuitive. But it does sync pretty well between devices, and I can access it easily on my Windows 7 laptop. So far, though, I'm not thrilled with it.
I would like to hear from the community any tricks with settings, additional apps to try, or other creative solutions to this. All ideas are welcome, and I'll be happy to try anything out to see how it works, so please don't be shy about any ideas. Thanks in advance for your help.
