SMS Confirm - alert sound - Touch Cruise General

Okay, this is a bit detailed this one, but for some reason it's comforting to me to get the SMS confirmation dialog window, but the sound it plays with it is LOUD and really annoying. I can't find an entry for that sound in the settings (though there is one for MMS sent). Any ideas?

Just had a look as I thought there was... but I can't see it, so I guess not. Strange.
Some smart cookie will probably jump on here in a minute and tell you a reg hack to straighten that out. Good luck!

I used the Advanced Configuration Tool to turn off that from:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=317070
It turns off the noise and the visual message that the text has been sent.

Yes, problem is i just wanted the sound turned off, not the visual! I find all the alert sounds a bit jarring, frankly....

I lost my MMS when I changed this setting in the Advanced Config tool. anyone know why?

setting for sms sound notification

So here's the thing, on any cellphone, whenever an SMS comes in, a sound or tone can be set for it, and when you open the message, the sound stops. On an xda2, the sound just continues even though you already opened and read the SMS.
Can this be altered in the registry?
I cant use long SMS sound notifiers because, every time an incoming SMS is received, the whole sound clips plays and its annoying.
mate, you saying that the sound played for your sms is continuous but not repeating? that's what happens when the sound/wav file used for the notification is too long; i think the unit will keep on playing it until the whole file is finished. similar to your alarms; unless you click it off the unit will finish the sound or loop it (if you want it too). if this is the case you can just change the wav file assigned to the sms notification...a shorter one would help..
cheers
yup, its continuous, even after opening the SMS. A long SMS notifier would be okay, but as ive said, its annoying if while im reading the SMS, the sound still plays. Hope theres a workaround for this.
Yeah its really annoying when you can't stop the sound while reading the message! :?
I was forced to assign a 1 sec length wav file instead of my favourite sound
I wonder why they didn't solve this issue!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Turning the sound off when you go to look at the message usually works for me
well, its not that practical way to do so....!! :!:

It could work, but its still a 2 step process. DCS? Waxx? ZeroExtreme? Any answers to this?

Ringer for the messages

Is it possible to change the Ringer tone for the Sms Messages?
Thanks!
Yeah, get any .wav file you want and chuck in in your Windows directory. Now go to Start, Settings, Sounds and Notifications, Notifications (tab) and select "Messaging: New Text Message" in the top drop-down box. Make sure "Play Sound" is ticked and then select the sound in the drop-down box. Your .wav file should be there.
Thanks !!!
I tried this but it doesn't work
Hi there,
I do not get SMS sound notifications even though I have set the notification as mentioned in the o2 instructions manual. A soft and hard reset do not resolve the issue.
Any thoughts on this? Is there a windows registry hack that I can carry out in order to resolve this?
Cheers!
Henry.

vibration duration?

I'm Running NATF v4.7 on my fuze and everything works great nice and speedy. The only question I have and this really isn't ROM specific I don't think, is there a way to change the duration of the vibrate when you get a new sms? I keep my phone on vibrate most of the day on my desk and the way it is now it's about a 8 second vibrate and its more of a ringtone then a quick alert.
~Thanks
have you looked into the sms notification in sounds and notifications in settings
to see what you can do with the settings there?
I have , all you can do from there is turn vibration on and off but not change how long it will vibrate.
I was also wondering the same thing. I just got my fuze the other day and first thing i did was flash NATF's 4.7 so i thought it was the device.. Do other roms not vibrate as long for a sms?
Also there are registry keys to edit the script of rings and alarms etc.. if we can find the one for sms we can tell if its fixable or not.
theres actually an app for this....its called VA alert and you can find it on blownfuze.org
Thanks for recommending that site, got some interesting apps on it. BUT VAlert (i think thats what you were referring to) only edits the ringtone script.

For incoming calls you definitely want VAlert1.21 (updated) by this guy which will let you customize down to the millisecond the pulsing patterns of the vibrator so that it gets your attention better than it otherwise would. I don't know if there's a similar thing for text and email but get this and subscribe to the thread for updates.

I searched through the registry and could not find a script for text messages.
Anyone that has used NATF's 4.7 rom and another rom, is the text vibrate duration the same, or shorter on other roms?

I've used about ∞ roms and so far with all of them they all have a long vibration for if you have the phone on any setting above just vibrate, and then have a three pulse vibration for if you have the phone set on just vibrate. I've also wanted to change this too a different setting, but unfortunately the closest thing thats ever came up is VAlert, and that doesnt deal with SMS . I've also looked in the registry, but I couldn't find anything
if you go to [HKCU\ControlPanel\Sounds\Ringtone0\] You have the String Value "Script" By default it is av0pw3r [a=activate, v=vibrate, 0, p=play, w=wait, 3 seconds, r=repeat]
So this tells the device when you get a call it should activate the device, vibrate 0 (continuoulsy, if it was 1, it would only vibrate for a second) play the ringtone, wait 3 seconds, then repeat.
I'm pretty sure VAlert is just so you don't have to edit the registry manually.
NOW to our situation, since "Ringtone0" is for incoming call ringtone, maybe we can manually add a new key that refers to the new message sound and manually add a script and see if that works? ANyone have any ideas what the device refers to for new messages?

Ringtone1? Ringtone2? Maybe the numbers are used to designate different types of incoming data

sms reading out loud during a call

I'm having a bit of an issue. When I get a text during a call a female robotic voice starts reading out my texts. It makes it hard for me to stay focused during a call. Please tell me there's a way to shut that off!
I wasnt aware this was possible on the Sidekick. did you try opening the menu while in Messages? then setting?

My wife had the same problem. I can't recall the exact solution but check in your settings/ language & input settings/ text-to-speech (or whatever path it is) and search around to ensure that the read aloud settings are not checked. Hope this works. Report back so others can know...
Sent from my demonSPEED Glacier using XDA Premium App
Looks like the setting you want to change is under Settings>Voice Input and Output> Text-to-speech settings. Sounds like Driving Mode is checked/enabled. uncheck it, and that problem should go away.

Question Google messages cannot change default notification sound P7P

I have searched on the site and don't find this issue. Despite everything I have tried, I cannot change the from the soft, default Google Messages notification sound. I have even tried changing individual sounds on a person by person basis and that doesn't work. I have gone into sounds and notifications in settings, also tried by going into the Messages app. Any help is appreciated. Thanks
Easy way just get Zedge and add new sound through that

I can change the system default with no problem but the default per contact is a fail, so I feel you. Same with other alerts, like my Google Cameras. Wil lNOT set a different alert sound than the system default

I can't even get the default to change. I have tried everything I can think of. Sounds and notifications, in the app itself, just can't figure it out and this is my 4th Pixel.
There are two locations for "setting" notification sounds for Google Messages as well as "default notification sound" UNDER "Sound and Vibration"!
Now if both of these are set to the same thing then everything will work OK. However, if the default location is set to one sound and the app setting is something else...then it's a toss up as to which will take precedence.
So here is my suggestion for two possible solutions.
Under settings>Sound and vibration>Default notification sound>My Sounds and select NONE. Now you can go to the messages app itself and tap on your avatar in the top right>Messages settings>Notifications>Other notifications>Sound and choose whatever sound you want. This will give you the sound you want for any messages you receive in the messages app. However, this will leave any other type of notifications such as a calendar reminder with NO sound (unless you assign one specifically to the calendar in the same relative manner as you just did with messages. I chose the calendar as an example because once you dig in and find the notification sound set for your calendar it is probably set to "Default notification sound" which you just set to NONE.
The second possible solution is to change the default notification sound to what you want and the messages app to the same sound. This will ALSO make all the other notification type sounds the same as in the previous calendar example.
Now you can always set the calendar to some thing different and it MIGHT work as you set it despite the default being set to something specific and it might not.
So of the two methods I have suggested the one that should work the best is to set the default notification sound to NONE and then go into each individual app that may give off a notification sound and give each one what you want. I hope this helps!
I am able to change my default sound to a different per app basis by going to profile picture and then clicking on message settings and select notifications then selecting behavior sound and more and from there select incoming messages then choose your sound for your messages. This is how google messages does it

Thank you for the detailed write up. I tried both solutions but still nothing. I even took this one step further and tried to sync the two with the ring sound so all three would be identical. However I can't do that because none of the tones in the ring match notifications or message sounds. I don't know what the glitch in my matrix is, but this is frustrating as heck. This isn't my first rodeo, and I refuse to believe I have some special P7P that prevents message notification modifications.

Can you share a screenshot of the "Behavior Sound" screen? I don't see that as an option on my P7P. Thank you for the response.
Here you go
Oh I forgot 1
I'm sorry I put it kinda step by step I just put it the way I would like to see it
Please let me know if I can be a further help to you
I also do not have a setting called "behavior sound"?
I wonder if it appears due to a particular setting or because of the model number of your P7P?
Here is a YouTube video telling you how

It is so weird, after playing with settings for days, yesterday I started hearing my phone doing the notification for when out Ring cameras detect movement. Since I don't always check the video right away, it took until this morning to understand now my message notifications have started using same ring tone. What is weird is I set that tone during the time of this conversation. Huh...
