As I'm not from an English speaking country I have a problem that might also be interesting to such that are. I use Farias final crossbow rom on my wizard.
I would like to enable the Sym key on my keyboard so I can access special characters without the on screen keyboard. I have found some general notes about it here:
http://blogs.msdn.com/windowsmobile/archive/2006/03/27/562162.aspx
There I have even learned how to change the order the symbols appear when hitting the sym key. sym.txt in windows folder.
However a friend and I don't manage to get the Sym key to work. It doesn't do anything. I have changed keyboard layout from 0409 to 0407 (German). Does it have anything to do with that? Is there a registry entry I need to change? Who can help me out here? Do your Sym keys work? I have not found one thread about this throughout XDA-dev.

i found this for wm5
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=283894
unfortunatley the fourth key does not exist in wm6. So how could this be done?
Also just set it back to 0409 and the sym key does work then. But thats no option as all other symbols and zy are messed up then.
HKCU\ControlPanel\Keybd\Locale=0407
HKCU\keyboard layout\Preload\Default=e0010407
HKCU\keyboard layout\Preload\1\Default=e0010407
HKLM\SOFTWARE\OEM\Qwerty\Layout=0x20407
Ok i just created the 4th key and tried it with the others on 07 or 09 but doesent change anything.
Ok. Thanks to ppc-welt.de I found out how it works.
Only the Locale string should be changed to 0407 all other keys are left as they are in standard english. Voilà it works with Sym-Key.
Hi everyone,
I'm upgrading from an Hermes, originally an italian WM5 then upgraded to WWE WM6. On this device, you would type accented letters by tiping the letter, then the function key, then the spacebar. The vowel would automatically change to the accented variant ("e" to "è", "é" and so on).
Now I bought a WWE Raphael, where FN+space has other functions (that I don't really need). Is there any way to restore the italian TyTN way of typing?
Thanks!

Unfortunately, I have a different keyboard layout, so it doesn't work for me. Not until the developer of the application maps the SYM key to something else.
help - keyboard!
The mobylnaut application I point to in the previous post would be a solution for this problem, if only I knew how to make the Sym key work as a standalone key, instead of the way it works on the FUZE keyboard. Does anyone know how to do that? HELPPP
Hey!
Anyone knows how I can get my Swedish keyboard layout back? I changed to a custom ROM I found here and after that all my Fn buttons are screwed up and åäö doesn't work at all.

The hardware keyboard is a easy regedit to make it swedish,
HKLM\HARDWARE\DEVICEMAP\KEYBD\
Change CurLang to 1044 and softreset for swedish hardware keys.

(I think you should see the original value 1033 (for English keyboard layout)
Just use Regedit or Total Commander to find this registry key, change it, and use your stylus to soft reset your Kaiser and you should be good to go.
Although I am from Czech Republic, I faced the same problem that the keyboard had English layout (actually not a big deal because the only difference is in mapping the "z" key to be "y" and vice versa). I changed this value to 1031 (which is the Czech keyboard layout) and after softreset it worksperfect as it should.
If not I suggest reading through http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=496197

u can use AEKMap
National Lithuanian for standart HD2 keyboard (Ezinput) Full QWERTY Layout.
Cursor keys swaped (up, right etc..)
Cursor keys moved to left side of the keyboard
Vibro reduced to 1
National keys added (long press).
TAB key instead of XT9
Click volume reduced
No more need for FingerKeyboard or other if you do not demand much from the keyboard
Unistallable, so you can easily revert to original.
Haven't tested without policy disabled (unasigned apps). Perhaps you need to set this option with BsB Tweaks to install the cab.
v2.3 Landscape cursor keys on left side.
v3.1 Landscape cursor keys location something like on fingerkeyboard

It's not a problem to make better english version!!! If someone needs it is possible Just ask.
What I did - everything exept "national keys" are useful for everyone- lowered vibro, lowered sound, space moved to right, cursor key placed in first row. It is more comfortable for me.
I do not understand what the guys who made keyb were thinking about - in original layout space not reachable with right thumb, vibro too strong sound to loud - in 10 mins that things become anoying
And whats funny if i rotate screen 270 degrees - keyboard rotates also - but the keys that pop on press a not rotated, I mean they stay as on 90 degrees rotation layout ha ha ha
Why I'm telling that- on HD2 default layout would be more comfortable using 270 but not 90 as is .... Strange why cursor keys are on right side because that position is more comfortable to be on left..on 90 Try...
Is there anybody who can help/give me information about that damn HTC keyboard. I have some ideas but still didn't find out how to do (eg. how to make space of bigger width - where is the png that is used for space button ?)
Thanks in advance.
linuxis,
it's nice to see your work.
I'd like to know how did you make it, because I'd like to make something similar but I'd like to experiment a little ... and probably make a full Bulgarian layout.
What's required to accomplish this?
Updated to version 2.3 - cursor keys moved to left
I would be cool if you could make a keyboard with easy access to "æ, ø, å" for us danish users... I would seriously call you my god if you could pull that off

If you have a tool look inside the cab. Basically these files are modified.
0C09.xml
0D09.xml
1C00.xml
LQ_Bg.png
LQ_Bg_Inv.png
PQ_Bg.png
PQ_Bg_Inv.png
LQSym_Bg.png
LQSym_Bg_Inv.png
All layout is in xml files, they inside has links to the images.
By the images you can say what layout they represend.
LQ - Landscape
PQ - portrait
LQSym - numeric keyboard layout
xxx.xml xxx - code of the language you modify.
xml structure is very simple, just layout tag/ page tag (several pages eg in numeric layout)/ key tags with coordinates. You can find key by key ID, and change the key or the values on long key press.
I think that is enough to start.

I just need to know what symbols shoud be placed where and what layout is the best for the danish symbols because I do not know danish . I mean - first row-long press (like lithuanian layout) or "æ" on "a" longpress ? And the symbols also needed.

Has anyone made a Swedish keyboard?
i'd like a german layout with the € symbol at the e key, the arrows in landscape on the other side, disabled xt9 key and the rest standard would it be possible?
or could you share the base files so i can mod them myself ?
nice i managed to do the mods for myself, at least the mods with changing the keys!
but as i saw the layout editing isn't that hard either, just redo all coords and the png file
nice linuxis for your inspiration!
but i asked myself, if it is possible to do smiles on a long press function, as i understood the xml code, it's not that easy cause a normal <char> tag prints all the keys while a <LP_char> tag gives the option to choose ...
Thanks mate for a long awaited LT keyboard.

One more tip for modders - check this tool XmlGui: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=551813
It also helps for changing keyboard layout
One more tip:
index.xml in this file you can change vibro stregth and file to play (tick.wav)
Ačiū, linuxis, labai laukiau.
Thanks for a long awaited LT keyboard
Can somebody please upload 0C09.xml and 0D09.xml from a standard US keyboard, please? The files are located in the Windows directory.
Thanks... /TubGirl
Hi!
I have an issue with the word selector list when using the Full QWERTY layout in XT9 mode. If I use the phone keypad or the Compact QWERTY layout words with special characters like æ, ø or å are suggested automatically.
For example hitting the "mno" key and then the "jkl" key on the Phone Keypad will suggest the word "øl" (among others), which by the way means beer in Norwegian. With the Compact QWERTY keyboard the special Norwegian characters are included included in the layout (on the buttons "opå" and "møæ"). Using thous keys works also perfectly well.
But on the Full QWERTY keyboard words with special characters are not suggested, unless I tap and hold for example the "o" key and manually slide to the letter "ø".
So to type "øl" I need to tap and hold "o", slide to "ø" and then tap the "l" button. Is there anyway I can get the Full QWERTY keyboard to behave like the two others, and suggest words with the special characters "ø" when only hitting the "o" key?
Regards,
PK
