I have had my XDA2i for just over a year now, but had it replaced just before the contract was up under the warrenty. I have just got a new wizzard from o2 on another years contract, I now stuck on which one to sell and which one to keep.
The wizzard has a smaller screen & slower CPU but wm2005.
The XDA2i is bigger & is WM 2003SE but seems a lot faster.
is there much diffrence between 2003 & 2005.
Apart from that i can't see much else between them, can any post some suggestion on which they would keep & why ?
Cheers
Thanking you in advanced
Im using XDA 2i and felt sad about there's no WM5 upgrade and no extended rom unlocker yet. Hope will be available one day.
Yes Xda 2i working fast, I really felt it and I never had any problem even playing heavy games.
Hope someone expert about WM5/WM2003SE can explain more at here.
thanks
(woo first post ^_^)
So.. umm yeah i expect there are a thousand of these posts around here and you're all fed up with talking about them. But i need to ask you people this...
XDA Mini S (i think this one is the "wizard" right?) or XDA Atom???
Simple issue here... i like the idea of the keyboard on the XDA Mini S, but im not sure if the processor is going to be up to scratch.
And i like the fact the atom has more processing power and a 2MPixel camera (but thats really not that important to me).
So... What would you suggest?
caff.
I suggest waiting for the HTC HErmes. It's got what you want in terms of processor and also keyboard
ahh, i wish but no sorry.. im stuck with xda's as its an upgrade from o2 im getting.
if the processor in the xda mini s is good enough for pretty much everything then ill get that
caff.
No, but presumably O2 would launch something like Xda Mini S2
... and you can always port your number. At the moment T-Mobile look well ahead with their tarrifs.

I have seen no problem with the O2 mini S processor speed. You have to remember that the processor speed looks slow, but in reality you are not comparing like with like, this is a Texas Instruments chip, with a different command set to other chips you are comparing it with.
I can run all the applications that I want, TomTom for example funs faster on here than on my Dell X5 (400 Mhz).
The one thing you have to remember is that you are not running a Pentium4 3Ghz 2Gig RAM 250Gb Hard drive machine, but a PDA with phone capabilities.
For me, its all I want in a phone/PDA I would not be without mine now.

I have a Universal, and a colleague just got one of the new JAM's this week (not the Hermes itself obviously), and I have to say, it makes me kinda want the same form factor again.
Sure I love the laptop type clamshell of the Universal, but usually end up holding the thing flat anyhow when the keyboard is out.
I like the protection a clamshell provides, but I can buy a case.
I like the SD card, but I don't swap my SD with my camera any more, and you can get 1GB Micro SD cards today.
I like the VGA screen, but I wonder if 640x480 is one reason why some map progs seem a bit more sluggish compared to my old slower-processored JAM?
Now that I can get a JAM-sized phone/PDA with 3G, I'm definitely buying the Hermes from T-Mobile when they release it in June as the MDA Vario II.
yeah bilbo i thinik your right, its all to do with comparisons.
but im pretty sure the omap 850 chip has a better cache then the intel chips in the xda IIi. So i think it will probably be ok
if no-one has any major objections i think im going to go for the xda mini s... that is unless the o2 shop guy turns around and tells me something new is coming out in a month hehe.
thanks all

One thing to remember when you go to the O2 Shop is that they will charge you £79.99 for the phone on a contract that is less than £45 per month...... unless you ask then not to.
I got my XDA-mini-S soon after they came out. I went to the O2 Shop, looked interested until the guy said there was a charge. After very little he said that to get me on board an O2 tariff he would drop the charge.
Remeber they can and will drop the charge, if not go to walk out and see what they say.
Good luck

Looking at the info on the Hermes, I think it has the same 416Mhz IntelXscale processor that my Dell X5 had 5 years go?
Bigger numbers dont mean faster applications.

I think it has a 300MHz Samsung? But you're right - "Bigger numbers dont mean faster applications", which is why I'm not worried about it's 300MHz.

Good advice, thanks
ill be going in on wednesday to purchase it, so ill let you all know how it goes
caff.
One thing that no one seems to mention is the screen. The atom has an 18 bit screen and that can give a hit on performance for graphic intensive programs. The transfer of those 18 bits as oppsed to the 16 in most other ppc is ineficient and for games = bad.
Hi guys,
After having my Uni for a good while now and the HTC Monet before that, I've gotten quite attached to the whole smartphone shebang. I've got some cash to spend on a new one though, and was hoping that some of you guys could give me advice on what to get. I've picked a few that appeal to me, and any other suggestions in the same price range would be great.
I wouldn't object to second hand phones but only if they're good quality (like Computer Exchange's A-grade) and almost as new.
Right now, I'm thinking:
HTC Dream - Not a beautiful thing, but I'd like to see whether I prefer Android or WinMo; what's the general consensus on this?
HTC S740 (Rose, I think)
HTC Diamond
HTC Raphael
If I could choose one of these phones to have right now, it would definitely be the Raphael as it has everything I want (touch screen, QWERTY, GPS) and more. But there's a pretty large price difference between this and the others, and I don't know if it's worth another £100+ more than a Diamond just for the QWERTY keyboard and an FM radio.
The Diamond is one of my favourites, but after having a Uni for so long I'm a bit scared of having to tap out texts with the touch screen only - is this easy?
That problem is solved with the S740, however I don't really want to have to use WMS and a smallish screen for everything.
One final question as I'm a still a slight n00b - the AGPS systems don't cost anything to run after you buy something like TomTom 7, right? I'm not on a great contract and 3G access would cost me, so I don't want to keep having to access Google Maps or something every time I want to find my way around.
Anyway, thanks for reading. Sorry if I accidentally aggravated you guys by posting in the wrong board.
I added a poll too because it might make answers easier and, well, it looks pretty.
I'd get HTC Rose.
The best keyboard imo. The only other phones with keyboards that beat the crap out of it are HTC Touch Pro2 and Nokie E90.
Thanks, but how much would I miss out on with WMS?
Get the latest & greatest: the Touch Pro 2! See the Rhodium forum section for details...
As much as i would love a shiny Touch Pro2, there's no way I can afford it, both on contract and alone.
Maybe I should wait and see if the original Touch Pro gets any cheaper once the 2 is out...

Forgot to mention the best keyboard ever: Universal one!
even with its 4 years old the size of the keys and its confortability and size make it the best to this date!

If you are patient enough you can get a tp with a very low price, just wait till december when 2010 models go anounced and you´ll see!
consumism has a good side as all gets old very very fast...
by the way tp2 is out since a month or so!
if you need a keyboard the best option is tp from your list
Thanks Orb. Yeah, I have pretty much fallen in love with the keyboard on the Universal and it's the reason why I want a decent one on whatever I buy next. I sort of wish I didn't ask about the TP getting cheaper, because I want it now . Stupid impatience. Isn't Windows Mobile 7 supposed to be released in 2010? Maybe it would be worth waiting for that if it has multi-touch and things. I assumed that stuff won't work on most (if not all) existing handsets(?).
While we're talking, how much do you like your S621? I know a guy who got one when someone else upgraded, and he basically has no idea what it is nor how to use it. I was thinking of buying it cheap and messing with it a bit (I'm not considering it as a possible new phone).

If you wanna wait for wm7 then prepare to pay more for a device wich has it included!
I asume that it´s a matter of budget, so wm7 will not be cheap when its launched (I don´t think we see it before Sept 2010)
As for noble S621 I think a reasonable price (depending on the conditions) is around 100-150USD, it´s a great smartphone, but have a look on marketplace before you make your desicion, as you can find very good deals on used devices from trustable members.
Good luck then,
Oh, I definitely can't be bothered then
Someone will probably get something working on the popular devices anyway.
I think it's actually an Exaclibur (S620) but it has an AZERTY keyboard because it wasn't from the UK, and I could probably buy if from him for about £15 if I'm lucky. Although, it is a bit scratched.
I'll probably end up going for the original Touch Pro, maybe now or maybe when it's cheaper. Anyone got any cheap and good sites/shops? Except for things like eBay and Computer Exchange.
Yeah it´s the Excalibur S621 or S620 is almost the same.
If you can buy it for 15 pounds please let me know where!
I want one really!
Have you visited marketplace section on this forum?
I would go 1st than to go any other site as you can find good deals!
I just bought a Touch Pro @ good price.
let me know about the cheap excalibur please, I´m interested.
Cheers,
Okay, thanks for the tip.
I've asked about whether or not the Excalibur is up for grabs, but I think the keyboard is AZERTY rather than QWERTY (I don't know what they use in Mexico).
we use qwerty but I can get used to new layout...
still interested!
Cool, I'll tell you when I get a reply but it's possible that I won't be able to get my hands on it until September. If you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay for your TP?
Ok
Let me know
PM sent with your question
Thanks. So I guess the general idea is just to save up for a Touch Pro. And hopefully AGPS is free
hi
Hi sorry if this is the wrong place to as this question but kindly advise
im planning to buy anew Android phone preferably a HTC(no offense to other brands its just the feeling that a known devil is better than an unknown angel that's all i have been using HTC for around 2yrs and absolutely no problem till date)
i was looking at the tatoo but it seems to be same as my jade with android but it seems to be the only affordable for me so can any one kindly advise on which one to buy
i would have been really happy if i could get android os for my jade but it seems to be an impossibility as of now and my crazy itch to buy anew phone and a android is kinda taking over(the wife is gona kik my A**)
Well, if I Were to make a speculation without being biased.. I would say Flash 10 is coming soon enough and according to Adobe the only 2 android phones strong enough to run the full package are the Nexus and the Moto Droid. All the other models (HTC etc.) are running flash light which is a half baked memory hog.. 'but it works'.
Also, 99% of the applications/mods I have seen are working on the Droid or compiled specifically for the droid.
In the case of you being a 'I dont want to or need to root' person I would say simply... If your going to build a computer.. would you build a 486 or a pentium 3 OR would you build something that will at the least run the current existing and immediate next gen software?
Hope Ive helped you out.

If the OP wants HTC, why not the Desire? Aiui HTC make both the Nexus for Google & the Desire under their own brand; the two are virtually identical wrt hardware, with the Desire being described by some as the Nexus with HTC's Sense ui added. OTOH the Nexus might get more timely updates than HTC's phones.

x10 is good now, but will get even better with android 2.1 or 2.2!

Except that 2.1 will be released in september.
I would advise not to get the Nexus One. The Nexus One has broken multi-touch (because of the sensor that it uses), poor build quality (touchscreen messing up, weird tint on the touchscreen, paint chipping off, etc), and is showing its age already in the USA.
The HTC devices may have flash lite now (I'm talking about the ones that have HTC SENSE) but they are upgradeable to the latest full flash 10.1 once it comes out.
I would go with the HTC Desire or HTC Legend for now but in the USA T-Mobile USA will release the MyTouch Slide (made my HTC) and it will have the same specs as the Nexus One except it will have a 600 mhz processor versus a 1 ghz processor but it has an external keyboard. If you want that, then you can buy it unlocked.
thanks to all who replied
hi
thanks to all who have been kind enough to reply
but looks like all the phones u have advised on are currently too costly in my country(India) around 400 -500$ roughly its kinda costly for me so i have no other option to may be wait for some time till they do come down in price and it does happen all new phones come down on price in about 3-6 months of their intro but thanks guys it was very very nice of you to give me ur kind advise but i dont know why but if i buy i think it would mostly be a HTC brand some how im very happy with my experience with this brand
thanks again guys so nice of you to give me such nice advise
Simple choice...
HTC Desire. IMHO.
I ordered a SIM free HTC Tattoo today. I have 8 months left on my current 18 month contract with my SE W995 which does pretty much most of what I need however I wanted a phone I could use Spotify on and maybe a few other apps. I was torn between the iPhone (yes I know...) and the HTC Desire, both of which I would need to buy SIM free for £400-£450 but in the end I opted for the HTC Tattoo which while limited in specs compared to my other options it'll still do every thing I need from at at only £180! I may get a new phone when my contract ends, but for now I wanted something inexpensive.
would it cost too much to invest in the Motorola Milestone?
thats the out-of-the-US counterpart to the Droid. same hardware but running Android 2.0.1
just throwing that out there.
also, I'm sure you could find a MyTouch or another htc smartphone on eBay for quite cheap.

You know... good phones are bound to be expensive ...
I'm in a country with similar situation as yours (billions of people!) and I can fully understand the pain you are suffering: want to buy a fair device with reasonable prices.
HTC phones are not cheap at all. Try find a Italian version Dream in gray market. It it old and not fully-functioned like these mentioned above, but its price is also cheaper:250USD in my country with much of the playable features.
Sorry for my poor English. I'm not a native.

Actually, these days, it seems that everything anyone wants to do or figure out has been done before.
There is always a way around something.
Proxies, budgets, wants/needs. I'm pretty sure you could get an unlocked iPhone 3G and run Android on it (via OpeniBoot) or go with an unlocked T-Mobile G1. I'd definitely give you any spare android-running phone I had if I had an extra..... I'm sticking to the droid for as long as I can.
Also, try googling around or asking in Yahoo Answers- I'm pretty sure there's someone out there who is a non-horder who just happens to have a spare Android phone. Sorry for your luck My problem is that I can't use my awesome Droid outside of the U.S. (hence why I mentioned the Motorola Milestone, as that would really come in handy for me)

Hi, I have currently owned a one plus one for about 7 years now. Amazingly it has lasted all this time with no probs at all (I'm on my second battery, and have flashed a decent more modern ROM a while back so it still works with current apps etc). But I have been waiting for some new tech to be released before upgrading. And as that new tech is now here, I have decided to invest some of my hard earned cash to buy one.
But before I do,, thought I'd pop in here and ask you guys if there was anything I should be aware of before buying. Im in the UK, so are there any spec'd phones that would not work in the UK properly? I have heard of Chinese specific ones, maybe a rumer, maybe not?
Did any of them actually come with 512gb in the end? I'm after the rose coloured one if that makes a difference?
Should I not upgrade to the latest ui? As I see some are having problems with bugs..
Just anything I should be aware of really?, as its a lot of money to loose if something goes wrong...
Thanks chaps!..
