WM6 and network time - can it be disabled? - General Topics

Gday all,
I've recently moved over from old nokia to a new windows mobile device (Samsung i620 if it matters). Every time I power cycle the phone, turn the radio off or go out of coverage the clock is automatically set one hour slow, and doesn't even alert me or prompt before doing so.
My laptop, desktop and exchange server all sync the time correctly. All devices are set to the correct locale, time zone and DST settings.
Does ANYONE know how to disable this sync with network 'feature' in WM6? I've found plenty of places that explain how to do so in WM5, but none for WM6. Surely there'll be a registry flag for this?
Many thanks for any helpful suggestions,
Alex

settings/system/clocks & alarms

Thanks, but that doesn't exist in this version - CE OS 5.2.1439 build 17947.0.3.3.
In settings I have:
Phone
Sounds
Display

Key Settings
Date and Time (not in here)
Slide settings
Connections (not in here)
Security
Remove Programs
Power Management
Operator Settings (not in here)
Regional Settings (not in here)

I'm pretty certain I have checked every possible setting that can be configured from the UI, hence my wondering about a possible registry key?

Is no-one else seeing this problem?

HSDPA disconnect after checking emails?

Hi,
I’m new to WM6 (and Cruise) but used a WM5 for many years. I’ve got email set up on ‘check every 30 min’ which works fine for me. However, the HSPDA (on Three network in Australia) stays connected and I have to press ‘Disconnect’ manually…in the WM5 it used to disconnect after finishing checking for emails…any ideas how to configure it to disconnect when finishing send/receive emails?
Best,
GHOZ
Download the program Band Switch. There is a option called Close idle conns which should (not sure) close the connection after being idle for some time.
Cheers,
Svante.
on WM5 it works fine...are you sure you need an extra app for that? thanks for the assistance.
Best,
anyone else is having the same problem? or it just me? using IMAP email....
Dont worry i have the same problem...apperently is it a WM6 thingie
That’s a bit disappointing…going to WM6 a losing functionality ;- ) ?!?
Also KaiserTweak has option to disconnect after idle period along with loads of other tweaks, only snag on Polaris is that after using it and resetting device it will have disabled the touch screen - but quick visit to the Settings/Screen app to re-align screen will resolve it - then on next reboot will all be fine.

Shortcut to suspend\resume Blackberry Connect

Hi,
I run Blackberry Connect on my Touch Pro to connect to my company BES but I prefer to suspend the service in the evenings and at weekends so I don't receive work emails in my personal time and also save a little battery life.
In the Symbian version of BBConnect there was an option to schedule when the service starts and stops each day which suited my needs well. However, I can't find this option in the WM6 version (having tried 4.0.0.100 and 4.0.0.103).
So at the moment it takes 6 clicks to manually suspend\resume the service:
Start > Settings > System > Blackberry > Status > Suspend\Resume
Can anyone help me come up with a way to either:
1) Schedule the service to suspend\resume as I would like e.g. on 0800-1800 Mon-Fri
2) Find out what changes in the registry when the BBConnect service is suspended\resumed and find a way to change this value with a single click
or
3) Create a shortcut straight to the Blackberry settings applet to a least reduce the number of clicks to get there manually
Many thanks!
HappyHammer
There is an executable called bbsettings.exe located in \Program Files\BlackBerry. You can link to this and go to the status tab to suspend the blackberry service. I don't know if you could drive this with a script or not.

That's great! Thanks. I'm now down from 6 clicks to 4.
However, if anyone else has any ideas on how to simplify this further, I'd love to hear from you.
finaly i found a clue:
to disable bes, just kill bbmain.exe process.
to enable bes, run the bbmain.exe
to integrate this into comm manager you need vjbrisk and taskmgr (because comm manager cannot run shortcuts like :\Program Files\TaskMgr.exe" /kill bbmain.exe to kill bbmail.exe)
i have assigned 2 commands to beam and data connection settings from the topaz commmanager (the one that has on/off buttons and actions for each row) so when i press the beam action it runs bbmain and when i press data connection it runs vjbrisk witch runs vjbrisklnk.lnk witch runs taskmgr.exe /kill bbmain.exe
i will attach a cab that will create 2 shortcuts in programs folder bb_on and bb_off
and will change the action of beam and data connection in comm manager(will probably work only on the topaz comm manager).

treo 750 and the "built-in" ms voip client

hello all,
1. I have been unsuccessfully trying to install the ms voip client that's been deliberately cut out of all roms for 750's
I followed all the possible instruction sets similar to, say, here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=401608&highlight=voip
Everything seems to install ok and you can even configure the thing to go through 3g, but it just doesn't want to actually start working.
Problem number one - no internet tab in phone settings
Problem number two - the today plugin is always in the "off" state.
My thoughts on this:
These problems might be coming out of the fact that 750's don't have wi-fi which seems to be the default behaviour for the voip client.
Also, according to here:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa923501.aspx
hklm\comm\rtc\ doesn't look like it has enough settings
2. On top of it all i'd like to bring g.729 codec support to the attention.
All i've been able to dig up is that you have to put the .acm file in the right place -> add some registry settings:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\BuiltIn\CODEC_G729]
"Prefix"="ACM"
"Dll"="g729.acm"
"Order"=dword:0
"Flags"=dword:2
-> and then configure the use somewhere in \\hklm\comm\rtc\
Has anyone successfully installed and used it?
Let's bring all these things together so it all starts making sense.
Thank you for your time.
I have the same problem.
No matter what I install, the "internet" option never becomes available in the phone settings.
I believe this may have to do with "PLMOCPL.cpl" being used as the phone settings CPL instead of "cplmain.cpl" on the Palm.
I have changed a setting under "HKLM>System>State>VoIP>Phone". I changed "Network Preferences" from 0 to 1, which i think is what the control panel does anyway.
Now instead of "Internet Calling: Off", I get "Pennytel: No Service".
Anyonw else come up with anything? Any way to edit the cpl to include the internet settings?

Semi-Noob questions

Thanks to this forum, my less-than-2months-old Verizon TP2 (Rhod500) phone has internet sharing working and some great apps, although I'm still on the stock 6.1 rom (my phone didn't come with 6.5 and the forums seem to show that Verizon's rom is not the greatest). I'm not brave enough to flash.
However, I've a couple of 'general' questions that I can't seem to solve.
1. When syncing (ActiveSync 4.5), I now have an error showing 2 unresolved files. As far as I can tell, I haven't lost any files. Is there somewhere that I can look to find the list of what is/isn't being synced? When I click on the error message, it just tries to resync and repeats the error. My old IPAQ used to allow me to see what files were unresolved but that doesn't seem to be happening here.
2. Since enabling internet sharing (Tom_Codon), my backlight dims but never completely goes dark. My Settings > All Settings > Power > Advanced has Battery - Turn off backlight if not used for 1 min selected but no sleep mode selected. I think that sleep mode was selected before the internet sharing was enabled, but I'm not sure. Is this so that the internet doesn't cut out? Should this change?
Any advice will be greatfully appreciated. (My Verizon service center people know NOTHING about the TP2 - ask them about mediaphones and they're great. And it seems like nobody has asked these questions before, or my forum search just isn't working well.)
Moving this to the CDMA sub forum.

Do the ROM upgrade! I too was afraid but so glad that I did. It fixed a lot of glitches that I had with 6.1. Then head over to the forum "Software worth installing on the TP2" and knock yourself out! Especially Cookie's Home Tabs! It's a must have. (You'll also need CHTE...Cookie's Home Tabes Editor) Look for Touch X Manila Tweaks too. (if your device uses Sense 2.5 after the ROM upgrade) It will tweak the device to speed up the Sense 2.5 user interface and cut down on the memory used too, I think.
Q1. Not that I'm aware of. But, maybe you changed a a couple of files in both the device and the sync folder located in your PC's "My Documents"?
Q2. Tom Codon's WiFi should run if you enable sleep mode. If not...well, I guess you'll have to disable it. I just know that my Sprint TP2 runs this program even after it shuts off.
I'm still a bit of a nube too but I hope I helped.

[Q] WM Pro 6.1 and WM Pro 6.5 - Enable PAP for connection authentication?

Hey!
I have 11 different mobiles, "powered" by Windows Mobile Professional 6.1 and Windows Mobile Professional 6.5. There are around 8 suppliers for these phones we're testing to see which fits our needs the best.
We use a special service from our ISP, which requires us to set the authentication method to PAP instead of the default which is CHAP and/or CHAP/PAP.
Under Windows Mobile 6.0 we could set this option under System under GPRS settings. I've tried copying over the application to enable, without success. I've also tried to enable the SetGRPSAuthentication under HKLM\Microsoft\Software\RIL to dword:1, without success.
A 3rd party supplier of us hinted that Motorola has patched this and the patch should be available to all (via WSUS?) in late April, which is a bit too far away for our schedule.
Any other's out there who struggle? Or maybe you've found a solution?
Best Regards,
Rune "TheFlyingCorpse" Darrud
Hi there,
I encountered the same issue when i flashed my phone from winmo 6.5 back to 6.1. I couldn't set the authentication within the Connection Settings, which kept my data connection from setting up properly. Here's what I did:
- Open a registry-explorer on your phone ( i'm using SKTools', but any will do i guess... )
- If you're able to search for strings/key's/values, search for the name that you've given your connection. If you can't search for strings, HKLM\\Comm\ConnMgr\Providers should provide settings for your data connections.
- Within the folder, you should also find a key "NDISGPRSAuthType". Your value probably is "1". I've changed it to "2", which allowed me to connect to my providers GPRS. Later on, I installed another settings manager ( I'm using a Samsung B7610, and installed the "Samsung Settings" which allowed me to alter these settings as well ). I've discovered that the Samsung Settings altered the value to "3" when I selected "PAP" authentication. I think that altering this string to "2" or "3" could solve your problem. If not, then I'm affraid I cannot help you with this issue.
Good luck!
