Opera Mobile 9.5 will be out soon (February 11, 2008 [BETA]) - General Topics

Check this:
http://www.engadget.com/2008/02/05/video-opera-mobile-9-5-redesign-is-lickity-quick-slick/
I am sure, the number 1 question would be:
"Can I view the non-mobile YOUTUBE.com (Flash video) website?"

1. I don't care if it will because vtap does that just fine.
2. I like opera mini, if iopera 9.5 is 4 mb again like prior versions it stays off my phone

why do people keep starting Opera 9.5 threads?? this is the third one i've seen today! - also 11th Feb is the Demo at some show, not the Testing date.

Here you can download Opera_9_331.cab and for QVGA standard_skin.zip. It is cool and very very fast!!!

I get an error about it not being able to find the proxy.

how in the world do you use the qvga skin which directory do you install it in?????

drop the zip in the skins directory.
works like a charm - v fast, v cool!!

I don't have a skins directory...I installed on my storage card...

you sure you installed in storage card!!! It won't let you.
Have a look in \Application Data\Opera9 There is a folder called skin. copy the zip file there (don't unzip it)

this xv6700 of mine has to be doing something right
I have installed it on my storage card 3 times the program won't show up under add/remove programs either so I hard reset and installed it on my main memory gah it takes a lot and the skin works now

wow! Really cool ! Works fine with QVGA skin on 8525 (Hermes)

I think it's cool. I deleted Netfront 3.5, because it is slower than Opera. It is very comfortable to browse Web with Opera 9.

This is a great browswer. It's much faster and has many other cool features over the IE and other browsers. By far the best I have tried.

How do you uninstall this? Not listed in remove programs...

why uninstall this one will stay on my phone

Yeah, it'd be nice to have an uninstaller. Anyone?

http://images.google.com/imgres?img...mages?q=opera+mobile+beta+9.5&um=1&hl=en&sa=N
there is a video with a speed comparison test and the ui in action. enjoy.

So far pretty impressed. SPB keyboard doesn't work well though. Ignores the spaces which would make typing on the Touch a chore. Its real fast though. Desktop rendering rready to go in like 5-12 secs.

Nice user name, you should have taken out that turbo revving young punk Hot Rod.
Anyway, yeah an uninstaller would be great. Its a great browser though...but any idea on how to not make this the default browser? I can't access the flash bundle pack because of Opera, heh.

Looks lovely. The only thing I'm not liking at the moment is that you can either use the nice zoom/pan navigation method or the fit to screen text flowing, but not both. I'd like to see an option on the touch-and-hold context menu to switch the current page into Fit To Screen, or have the Zoom In/Out option automatically flow the text. It's a pain to keep scrolling left and right to read most pages, and it's even more of a pain to have to go to the settings to select Fit To Screen once you get to a page you actually want to read!

Updated 7.9.04 318 TouchFlo Beta ROM Test v2.0

If you've used any of my roms, you know what I like to put in them.
Here is my second build that I got working using Whiterat's Touch components ingegrated into the base 318 ROM.
Please give it a try, and post what issues you find. The more testing now, the better the kitchen
We're also beta testing the new kitchen, which will get updated once we are sure it's relatively bug-free.

Pandora rom with touchflo. This isn't a release, so if you're not comfortable with my stuff, don't worry about it.
i downloaded it and there was nothing there.all i saw was the nk.nbf

I only include the nb.nbf to keep it simple (for me anyway ) If you have another rom package, just replace the nb file with this one
Not bad! Definitely seems faster than the other Touchflo roms. Wi-Fi seems fine; bluetooth sync's ok to my pc. Calls seem fine.
Sometimes I have to double-tap the ok to exit a program; I don't remember doing that before. Not a huge deal, though.
Did you mean to leave the O2 connection settings integrated? No big deal; I deleted them (I'm on Cingular).
Is the cube integrated in this one? It doesn't launch on the softbutton.

Flash the ROM and find out. If you don't want to do that, then visit some of Matt's other ROM threads and see if Live is something he's put into them. If he has, then Live might be in this one.
It doesn't matter - this is a beta test, just to see what does and does not work, so the final version will be bug free and the kitchen will also be bug free.
i flashed it already. and i was checking it out and did not notice any windows live. also there is two calculators.

True, and true. I was thinking about extracting the OE calc and giving a choice, but haven't gotten that far yet.
Windows Live was just too big to fit it in with the touch files

With this rom everthing works fine but I am unable to set the tones (anytone), i go to the sounds section and select the tones i want for each action but when i click ok the window does not close at all and ALL the tones I set revert back to the default tones/settings
and another thing is the boot up time Is kinda long .......................... hope these get solved in the final release

i have trouble with the ok/X button ... :-(
i realigned the screen like in the other touchflo but no luck...
and also some freezes... overall is much worse than the one in NBD 7.4 but it`s a beta, i hope it gets better

If I remember, 7.4 is based on the 1413 base, and has a much easier transition to the touch software since it's a much newer build. 318 has quite a few differences that need ironed out
Do you have the ok issue on every screen? I only have a problem in Phone, but otherwise the alignment issue seems typical.
Anyone else see similar / different issues on this topic?
in most of the screens, it`s verry annoying to have to click ok many times.
and if i click right in the corner sometimes i activate todat plugins (like i`ve clicked in the middle of the screen) or even the right buttom key
Mattk_r:
With regards to people having ringtone problems (as I did) it is to do with the Lockstream DRM client in OEMAPPS.
If you look at my OEMAPPS folder I sent to you, that should give you the answers.
Remove too much - Loose Quickdial
Remove too little - Cant set tones
Its a tough world

[Discuss] JustMe - 4 flavors (formelly Just2Stuffed) [Update 06/23/08]

UPDATE 06/23/08
I'm having some issues with a few things. As usual, time is amongst them. In any case, the LZX version is just too slow for my taste... but maybe it's because I've been using a small pagepool with it.
In any case, attached is a teaser. It's the today screen that I've been waiting for.
As far as bugs go:
LZX version: Will not display the proper XIP version. I had a problem with the LZX compression and had to use one of Aserg's LZX ROMs as a skeleton on to which to graft the ROM. This worked but introducted this issue. I'm assuming that it's an issue with the cecompr.dll used and that Aserg had hex edited the XIP number unto the imgfs.bin.
All the "full versions" That today screen is not Landscape compatible so you will not see it properly when in landscape mode and in the today screen. Also, the background interferes with the start menu's functionality. I'm working to fix that now, though. Although, it's time for sleep...
Hey guys. Just messing around with a possible full ROM (as supposed to my usual stripped ROMs.) For now, it's based on the Diamond ROM.
It has the following so far:
Arcsoft 4 (I'm having some problems with 5... my MMS stopped working, even though they work with Just2Clean.)
Custom looking HTC Home 2.1 with proxy patch for those who use it on Tmobile's network - This is changing into something else... You'll see it when the author posts it.
Big start menu icons
Big X-Button Icons
black calculator - (My ROM users know I don't ever include calculators. lol)
PocketXpdf
TMPCP
Office 6.1 + OneNote
PHM RegEdit
Advanced Config
Audio Manager
Battery Status - This will be PART of the today screen...)
Esmertec Jbed + OperaMini 4.1 (4.1 was not buggy, the newer Esmertec I was using with it was. This is a stable version.)
HTCAlbum
Internet Sharing
TotalCommander (newest version I believe)
VoiceNotes (something else I tend to remove... I'm not sure if I'll keep it...)
NETCF v3.5
RandomAccess
Oxios Hibernate/CloseApp
This will come in 4 flavors at first.
1. Standard JustMe
2. LZX JustMe - A little slower, but with much more space due to the LZX compression.*
3. A UPX'ed version - Adds a little more speed and storage, but not as much as LZX.
4. A Just2Clean variant with LZX compression. Basically, the 70MB free one.
I MIGHT add a 5th version, a 'la Ttran's biggy if people tell me what they want in it.
*LZX compression is giving me a strange bug that causes the wrong WinCE version to show under the about tab.
The list looks good ivan... only things i wouldn't like would be Total Commander and PHM Regedit, since i use the excellent Resco File explorer which includes both functionalities in 1 app
Btw... speed & Voice dialing would be nice to be included ??
Thanks again for your hard work!

Speed & Voice dialing - Agreed
TotalCommander can also edit the registry, but I prefer using PHM Regedit. Resco is great, I agree, but it's not free, so I can't cook it in. I might make a version like this, though... might.
Your ROM looks very interesting may I suggest adding HTC RandomAccess to your ROM to make it handier browsing through the contacts.
Estimated time of release?
i would use this , i agree with gambit, too... icontact or something for contact browsing would be nice. other than that, it seems to meet all my necessary apps, nothing more, nothing less.

Oh I forgot to mention that was added, too. lol
EDIT: OK... the letter images that appear in the center for randomaccess are broken, so I'm gonna have to fix that, too... Thanks for reminding me, though, or I would have never caught that.
EDIT2:
Estimated time: Whenever I get to it. I'm a perfectionist, and I tend to have too many projects going on at once... plus I rarely have time to mess around with things... and I'm very disorganized... sooooo.... soon. lol
I have a working version that I may be able to fix by tonight... So sooner than I even thought maybe...
Which reminds me... I have to update my signature. Make it J2C, J2S and kitchen and maybe a bigger donate button.

Out on a limb
I know HTC Home is kind of a standard for Today Screen, and I used it for a while.....but, I'm kind of liking the functions of BS. It doesn't take as much power or space and I can configure it with a little HTML.
I started using it shortly after flashing J2C and really like the space. Plus I have more space on the SD for music, since I'm not using HHC now. Just a thought. I sent a screen shot of my modified Aurora theme. I'm running BS with rlToday for the clock, Weather panel, both integrated in BS, and "BS Home" for the bottom buttons.
I also like Network Folders cooked in (runs smoother).
Does TCPMP include plug-ins?
That's my two cents ........
wm5torage
perhaps a program that most people don't use...but it does benefit me personally, since it lets me use the phone as a removable usb drive at work...where I can't install activesync...so that i can transfer files as need be...and occasionally use portableapps, like portable firefox through the removable drive...since the work network won't allow users to install software on the computer.
wm5torage is a fairly small program, so it shouldn't take up too much room...
PIM Backup
for those that might flash every so often, but don't connect to outlook to sync, PIM Backup is a great way to backup contacts, sms', and calendar info...

Actually, I'd be ALL for it if you can provide me with the needed files. I've been looking for something like this, and although I'm good at making things work, I'm not good at making them look pretty. ^_^
Is the weather panel proxy compatible?
If it is, this will be great!
Network Folders?
As far as the plugins, it will. The version I have on it right now is a place holder until I can find a more decent package, though.

I back up everything through an exchange server, so normally I wouldn't use PIM backup... I might add it depending on the size of the program.
@ batterystatus = of course best APP ever...still don´t understand why people use HTC HOME
@ wm5torage great aspp for using device AS USB massstorage on my autoradio with usb-support
@pimbackup...why to include...just put pimbackup.exe on SDcard...and run manually from tim to time...
Just my 2 cents

All I have are the cab files. I've been reading a lot of the post in the Prophet forum for BS themes. prscott1 has quite a few different themes up and knows this a lot better than I do.
I'm sorry I misspoke earlier, I did mean networkplugin; HTC or Schaps. They both seem to work fine. Schaps is just 5K smaller as a cab.
This is where I got most of it. I just use weather panel in place of using UL as a plugin. I really can't take credit for someone else's work. I did a little rewriting of the HTML for the bottom buttons though.
Weather Panel does have an option for proxy settings.
Just what you need....another project.

This is the HTCHome BS theme. It's the same theme I'm running on my previous post just different lines showing. The message buttons are included and can be changed just by tap and hold on them.
I've attached the latest BS and the HTCHome theme, the HTCHopmeskin and the XML file are placed in the BS folder and the HTC Home files are placed in the \windows dir. It basically is editing the XML file to point to the progs you want to use. most of it is set for you. The on thing is the weather tab and the prog tab. I've seen a few setups with UL and as you can see I have it as an option in my setup.
Hope this helps. Keep up the excellent work.

I used that theme for a while, and I really like it. Using BS for themes is a bit easier, assuming you know how to edit the .xml theme. I second using BS instead of HTCHome, more customization.
Looks, maybe I will use it when it is released Still no success with the kitchen and your j2c files

That's the list so far since I'm at work and can't mess around with it. As you can see it's a semi stripped ROM. No games, but things that I use on a daily basis have been added. All this and you still get 50MB+ of storage free. This is mostly a "I use it, it goes into the ROM" kind of ROM so far, but let me know what you'd like to go into it and you think should be removed and I'll think about making those changes happen. Remember, it depends on whether I also believe it's a useful app or not.

sounds like an incredible ROM! I am more of a BatteryStatus / Mortscript fan than I am of HTC Home, but I do like the touchflo scrolling. I would still enjoy trying your stuffed ROM. there are soo many great BS themes available now - some imitations of WM7, iphone, etc. I have added Ultimate launch recently (mainly for apps launching) so I have a BS/UL combo that is driving my latest themes. I'll post some screen shots when I have a chance (at work now) to see if anyone is interested.
Edit: I'm uploading a few screenshots of my latest (and colorful) BS theme that has UL, todayagenda, searchtoday and RSSNews integrated within.
first, second and third screenshots are the clock page with various rows showing.
fourth, fifth and sixth screenshots show some of my UL sides and cube in action.
I've been in a colorful mood lately.
The only thing I would require out of a BS theme would be the message indicators which I use quite heavily. I know that pappamopps uses them, so maybe he can add them to this BS theme being as nice as he is.
I'm on for this too if you remove remote desktop cuz I think it's useless! I would keep the voice notes though since it's kinda funny sometimtes to record sth with the phone...I'm exactly searching for something like this with the newest build since I have most of the apps in a folder called cabs on my wing Cuz in my opinion everyone needs different progs but this sounds like a good base to build a customized ROM on!

Hey gullum... does it has all the fixes i mean the os version is 19214 but it is a new one 20273 its better but does this version your does have the batt drain fix, and the IRDA fully works? thanks nice to see a ROM with throttle launcher in it by cook, downloading and testing.

thanks for the reports so far it will help me make the rom better
@+ Que PPC
I might make this based on the 20721 but this is to test if I have all drivers and stuff
IRDA not in rom (well my fault did same mistake with the prophet rom) this is a port from Kaiser and kaiser has no IRDA but I'll add it in
@MONICA_M
the MMS problems (there is no MMS in the rom) so don't know if you have installed a cab
about the memory I've used my wixard the whole day and started with aroun 22 MB and now 12 + hours later it's down to 19,60MB and has been there for several hours... so maybe it's an app you have installed?
and no one has problem with screen not responding so it's the crack in my screen that is causing mine to not respond so good
All right I'll wait
mmmm I think that MR SVI and Mr TNT enables the IRDA, ask him if you dont have any idea to incorporated, 20721 or 20271? so the numbers makes the diference...
Thanks keep the good working
Another few Problem:
1. Throttle Launcher will not work in landscape mode. 25% of the Throttle Launcher at below will be cuted in landscape.
2. I think there is some problem the menu in dialpad screen ( When I click menu button in dial pad screen it show empty space with (A) and (B) at right side of the menu) .
3. No onenote mobile installed.
4. Dialpad is not so good. I prefer to use SNN's ( Pauldgroot for Diamond dialpad theme ).
Other thing is good. Very fast ROM
But now i am going back to SNN ROM.
I very much liked the Throttle Launcher 0.9.3, anyone plz can help to fix the landscape problem. I finded everything in the net but no luck!
Throttle Launcher website says it supports for landscape mode but no its-not-working!
Many Thanks
Not bad at all.....the touch features are responding well. I am looking forward to the full version!

1. I also have this landscape problem and it is supose to show the quick new menu like in the Touch Pro but it's prob a limit in throttle because the keyboard is on the other side the in most newer devices and APBilbo has a Herald ... so I'm guessing that it's set to change when you rotate to right handed view.
2. thats some mui problem that I need to figure
3. thats on purpose I never used one note for ppc or pc(useless app IMO)
4. I will look at that skin but I will not use it maybe change mine (I make my own skins)
Love the rom but have a question regarding the use of the contacts page. I have installed the file to get the contacts to work but I need to know how to change the pictures of the matrix characters that appear to the pictures of my own contacts.
I posted the IRDA package on the tnt thread. have at it.

on you device goto \Program Files\ThrottleLauncher\Setups\TFlo3d\TWolf\Contacts and copy the vars.txt to your computer and change the numbers and names in the files you also need to make new photos and keep the nameing the same foto1 2 3 and so on
lets say you have a contact called Jack and number is 1234567
change the first 2 lines
&nome1=Jack&END
&numero1=1234567&END
and make a picture of Jack and name it foto1.jpg in 150x150 resolation
hope this will help

SSMaPa on Pro

Hi!
can Anyone tell me how to edit the Manila tab links on the Pro?
I somehow cannot make SSMaPa to work (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=407777&highlight=ssmapa).
I also wonder if you can change the links within the horizontal touchflo tab (when the keyboard is out)...
Thanks in advance!
I use it to change the calendar and it worked well..
For the tab of manila in landscape, I don't know, but it would be wonderful if is possible change it
I used this on my diamond but have not tried it on my Pro as I thought it wouldn't work. So you actually changed the calendar link on the Pro with this? It would be nice to do it for the landscape view but I do mostly open the calendar in portrait so this would be a big improvement
Yes I change the default calendar for thumbcal with ssmapa..
Thanks. I will give it a go then.
I made it work as well... works like a charm
Seems like you can't browse to the storage card though? I usually install my apps there and don't see it in the browser...
I'll start installing apps to phone memory though

best non-touchscreen browser

what browser would you say is the best for non touchscreen devices?
My favorite was Iris browser, sadly they stopped supporting it. Many people like skyfire, however it always hangs at "connecting" for me. Finally opera mini 5 looks great however it isn't native so I always have to lauch it through java and accept that the data connection may cost... and it doesn't like the keyboard on my htc rose.
any suggestions?

Opera Mini 5 beta is by far the finest, all ur issues can be resolved, for instant launching and a signed one so it doesnt ask u everytime u launch for connection, download and install the .jad from Opera Mini 5 Beta (Signed).zip one from stylez >>>> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4567823&postcount=43
Also the zip have the shortcut and icon dll to launch it, place the shortcut in \Windows\Start Menu and the dll in \Windows.
before installing this remove the other Opera 5 installs and any other .jad or .jar of opera on ur device.
for keyboard issue, disable Inline Editing in Settings > Advanced, this is made for keypad phones.
And for a super browsing experience, turn on Fullscreen mode.
how do i place the dll in the windows folder, the file explorer doesn't "see" the file...
edit: i installed totalcommander which solved the problem!
edit2: thanks for all your advice!! and wow that icon looks ugly... is there no other icon around or how can i convert a picture to a .dll file?
I would agree- Opera Mini is one polished browser.

Haha it is quite ugly, the attached dll has a much cleaner icon, based on WM 6.5 icons in ookbas ROM. just replace the file.
great thanks!!
I'd like to have 2 more things fixed:
1. the clock is wrong, how do I set it right?
2. when I press the hang up button to exit the browser, the next time I want to use it, I need to press "continue" to keep using the java program. Is there any way to avoid this "continue" dialog?
