hey not sure if you've guys have seen what apple have done with their iphone SMS, but i'm in love with that. does anyone know if theres an app that does something similar? i mean right now all my SMS's are just randomly organized by date, would love something where your given a 'instant messenger' kind of approach.
You're a senior member, you should know to search. There is a threaded sms cab here that works - I prefer to use the native Inbox application and will wait until 6.1 cooked which has threaded capabilities.

I have used it with the Vox, it's not very stable and key presses do not match up properly, thus I don't use it.
There is no application that will do what you have posted in your screen shot. Wait until 6.1 is released out and perhaps it can be pulled out of the ROM and retro fitted.

ya thats what i'm looking for, but 15 bucks is a hefty price for a small app like that. I just read that WM6.1 will incoporate the iphone sms bubble 'chat' layout,just wondering when the release date for an official release is expected
The PPC guys have already began cooking 6.1 rom from a leaked Kaiser upgrade. We just have to wait for a smartphone upgrade and then we should be able to adapt it to the Vox

There are a few shortcomings in WM on the SMS front as everyone who uses these wonderful little devices will know.
One of these shortcomings, that of replacing mobile numbers in text messages and in delivery receipts with a name from Contacts if available, is already solved by Saman's great app, SMSDRFix (http://www.saman-cz.com/ppc/index.html?drfovrw.html).
It's useful to be able to insert a name or number from your Contacts list in a text or email message. Would anyone be interested in developing a little app that modify's the context menu in POcket Outlook to provide Insert Contact Name and Insert Contact Number menu items?
These would be great little additions. Perhaps Saman would even think of making this a part of his SMSDRFix app!

The app is still in beta at the moment, so I have no idea whether it will be free or commercial software when it's released - I'd be happy to pay for it, just for the "Note to Self" option alone . It also offers group messaging, backup/restore of SMS messages, scheduled SMS messages - kinda like several of the applications on xda-developers rolled into one interface....Neat
Have a look at the product, try it, give some feedback (there's even a feedback option in the program menu which sends an email to the developer).

I'm using stock WM6.5 and it is possible to keep choosing contacts to sen a new message.
I can select as many as I want in the to area.
edit: U want to Forward the message, OK.
Funny things about forum's "Search" and "search again" and all you get is GroupSMS, which is what I would like to avoid.
Only, and simple thing, I'm looking for is til posiblety to put a checkmark, by the one's from my contactlist, who I would like to forward the SMS to.
The only thing, that looks like what I'm looking for is somthing called "Contact Picker package" but under the "Blackstone ROM development"

This might help for sending to multiple recepients.
The con so far is, when message sending failed, you won't be notified.
I searched all through the new tael rom thread and was unable to find a solution to my problem.
I love the look of sense 2.5 but I am having two issues with text messaging.
One, If I am on the text messaging tab and create a new message It doesn't auto fill the recipient name and doesn't seem to grab any info from my contact list. If I select add receipient it takes me to a blank search people field with none of my contacts listed. The only way I can send a text message is to go phone>contacts>send msg or reply to one that is sent to me.
Two, when I am in landscape mode trying to reply to an sms the send button is off the screen. This I can live with as I know not everything has been ported over the VGA but the first complaint is really an issue.

From what I have seen and tried I can find no method to restore the SMS from an older 6.5 device to a WP7.
Were you able to find a solution?
Nope-- there are even solutions to import WM 6.5 SMSes to Android, but nothing for WP7- it's far too locked down.

Nope, WP7 doesn't support Exchange SMS sync (or SMS sync with anything for that matter).
Ironically this was one of the features added to WM6.5 with Exchange Server 2010, yet its successor (if you can call it that) lacks it.
Might get added in a few years' time, once other more basic deficiencies are addressed.
weird that this phone addresses the joe-average user, and I dont deny it, but not having a restore/backup function is poor and a ovesight....

That's correct, one of the best things Microsoft created for WM6 doesn't work with WP7.
If you copy your important SMSes to the SIM card beforehand they will automagically appear on your WP7 handset.
Thought of doing that but couldn't see how to do it on wm6.5 [I have another wm6.5 phone I could copy to sim if it was possible]
