NewsBreak for me...

pRSSreader
Far out the best !!!

Newsbreak
Newsbreak is the only RSS reader I have used that flawlessly updates in the backround without crashing, acting up, or anything annoying. I can set it to update at my desired intervals and it will give me fresh news several times a day.

anybody got a copy of newsbreak i could have (inc code) please thanks

I used to use prssreader but switched to RSS Hub. RSS Hub is a free version of Newsbreak. You can get it here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1701897&postcount=26

I actualy like SPB Insight the best. Tried the others, but Insight pulls full posts and runs great. No background downloading though. On a 3G connection it doesnt take long to pull data. Grabs pics that scale to your screen size too....

The site has a policy on warez/hacking. I suggest you find it and read it before you get yourself banned. Just some friendly advice there.
Ps I use newsbreak as it supports podcasts.

RSS Hub is a very good alternative to news break though it doesn't have today's plugin.

Are you talking about the RSS Hub for Pocket PC? The one included in Dutty's? This one does have a Today Plugin. I havent tried NewsBreak yet, as i've been using RSS Hub... I like it.
So on the about page it says "Powered by Ilium Software NewsBreak." Coincidence?
It also supports podcasts.

i tried but today's plugin is not loaded, not even prompt when install.. probably because i already have some other home plugins installed..
Nevertheless, do you know how to get around the 1 hour refresh limit? I'm looking at stocks and economics news and I wish to refresh my channel every 15 mins instead of 1 hour.

Yes, mine too
Very good RSS reader!

IMdb Mobile

Hello.
i looking for apps to add to my phone, and i really want an imdb mobile app.
After searching i have came to the conclusion that non exists (please correct me if im wrong).
i then found this site
Code:
http://nolanbrown.com/imdb
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
it redirects if you use IE , using chrome it appears to work.
after reading the about bit
"Since being released January 5, 2008, IMDb Mobile has been raved about as one of the best web applications available for the iPhone. It was voted a "Staff Pick" by Apple, made Apple's Most Popular page in Entertainment and in a mere 15 days, IMDb Mobile received more then 20,000 visitors."
it appears it was designed for iphone viewing and i guess the creator set it up to check for the browser and have a blacklist (it appears his blog not updated in some time, maybe chrome wasnt out when the he had the blacklist??? i dunno only guessing) so i assume changing the user agent on one of my mobile browser would make this site visible (unless anyone has a quicker solution).
i dont really want to change the user agent everytime so anyone know a imdb mobile app / quicker solution to use that site.
thank you for your time.
larry.
+1 for a IMDB Mobile App...would definitely be a nice app to have!
I would also like to get one...
Just as an alternative solution you can use the ebook-reader TomeRaider3, as they have the imdb database as a free download on their site (approx. 158mb) to read offline
Will give it a try...but I think an online app would be even better
Nevertheless thanks for your share!
Ascenca
i used to use it
i thought it was rather poor though, and if i remember correctly it is quite limited in what information it gives you.
the proper site works not too bad though.
Just downloaded this for my HD2 its an upgrade of a slightly older one and runs great once you go into the settings and assign a video player for the trailers to play on. In my case i navigated to windows/ windows media player

Oh tnx, I was still using v0.1.
There is a IMDB Mobile app, there is a cab of it on that site were not supposed to talk about, Its not brilliant but its a bit easier than using a browser...

Offline RSS/Podcast Reader

Hello all!
I have been lucky enough to finally get my Nexus One. Although my purchasing process was riddled with issues and lacked any support. I got the phone and it seems to be free of defects, and I am loving it even more than I thought I would.
I am moving from a Windows Mobile phone (FINALLY), and I had an app called Newsbreak which I used all the time. It would basically download all my feeds for offline viewing/listening including audio/video podcasts, and use the SD card for storage.
I have been looking for an equivalent on android and I appear to be left wanting. Most RSS reader appear to be online only, don't seem to support downloading podcasts, or requires Google Reader (sorry not wanting to give my Google Account password).
Does anyone know of a good offline RSS reader?
I have tried Newsrob (needs Google Reader), Listen (no offline?) and I am currently reviewing BlueRSS. I like BlueRSS, but I see no option to store on the SD card nor how to download the podcast or website for offline viewing. Since BlueRSS says it does this, I am not sure if I am missing something or it is just not able to do what I require.
If I need to I will design my own, but this is the only thing keeping me from using the N1 full time.
Thanks!
Check out Doggcatcher (no idea why they chose that name). Here's the feature list:
http://www.snoggdoggler.com/FeatureOverview
BeyondPod is a good solution as well. I use it for audio/video.
You can't beat Newsrob for RSS integration with GReader though. You can just create a new google account and export all your feeds and than use that exclusively for Newsrob.
Edit: Link: http://www.beyondpod.mobi/android/index.htm

DoggCatcher looks like ti will work and I will check out BeyondPod. I did not find these before since they appear to be paid apps, and I just moved my SIM over so it was hiding them from me before.
Wish there was a free one though. Maybe that will be my first Andriod project.
I really don't like Google Reader. Its convenient, but giving my login information to an app is just not safe. If there was a Google one I might try it, but they seems to want to force people to be online. Why use bandwidth so irresponsibly? Just don't make sense.
Thanks all!

[tip] bbc radio shows on demand - pc & most mobile OS

a little trick i've been using for a few weeks to enable listening to offline bbc radio shows
extremely easily. works for PC users with android, blackberry & ithings via Dropbox.
Radio Downloader allows you to subscribe and download any BBC iPlayer radio content or
RSS podcasts. Simply set the download target to the Dropbox folder and the content will be
available on your mobile device for download & offline listening.
links
Radio Downloader (pc only) | Dropbox Account (2.25gb free*) | Dropbox Apps
* - you'll get an extra 250mb on top of the standard 2gb cloud storage using this link.
since this is a multi-OS topic i guessed this is the best place to post.
That's a rather good idea
that's the same crap as using the BBC player to play the contents directly
if you are able to download stuff from dropbox account
might as well just download the show directly to your phone
why go through so much trouble to accomplish the same thing?

To my knowledge you can't save what you're listening to with the iplayer app (on phone or PC).
So for instance if I want to listen to the Now Show or the News Quiz, or even Any Answers, I can do so when I'm on the tube in London.
I've missed so many good programs simply because I'm not near a radio/computer at the time that they're on.
@AllGamer.
because this method allows you to play content offline & as far as i'm aware the iplayer doesn't allow you to download unencrypted content - or any at all on the android app.

How to get maximum out of RSS feeds on Android

I love RSS feeds, but they are not as convenient to use, are they?
I did some routing of the feeds and some tinkering with the gReader pro app.
Here are the results:
1. Offline cached with all images (magazine/flipboard/peopeller like)
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
2. Full articles in feed
Here is what i did:
1.Converted all feeds to full feeds using fulltextrssfeed.com
2. gReader settings:
Enable offline usage
3. Check to cache feed images, audio and video. Don't check load full content (it loads the webpage)
4. I changed theme to dark and enabled fullscreen, but it is up to you
And you are ready to go.
After feeds are synced, images/audio will be downloaded.
gReader pro is available on market at: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.noinnion.android.greader.readerpro
Free version is also available.
Hope it helps you guys in having a good time reading RSS feeds with convenience and style.
No response. RSS is dead perhaps.
Many thanks for all the effort into writing this post .. The ability to download full feeds will be very useful to me. I think I will stick to pulse though... It just feels so slick compared to greader that I can't bear to convert. even though I wish it could download images for offline viewing too.

Now that Google announced, in March, that their Reader Service will be shutting down in just a few days (July 1st to be exact) what will the masses use for their continued RSS experience?
There have been several companies/reader services/apps that have taken advantage of the monetary funds waining on Google's end like AOL, Feedly, Press, Digg. And then there are paid services like NewsBlur, Feedbin and Net news wire (really, paid services for RSS? - I thought that people said about two years ago that RSS was dead.. Guess not, haha).
What will hit me the hardest is that I'll have to wait for a RSS feed reader app that has a widget that will be able to tap into the power of Google RSS Reading.
My hopes are that AOL takes the ball that was handed to them and makes a worthy Android app with a full screen HTC-like widget. My second hope is that other apps like Color Widgets and Pure Widgets are still able to utilize Google's API after Google terminates their services.
So, what are all your thoughts on this and what will/are you use/using?
Right now I am still using Google's Reader. But what happens in the event that Google stops all services related to their Reader.. Just for in that case, I did utilize the TakeOut service that allows you to download an XML of the feeds you've accumulated over the years. I really suggest that everyone use this as it's always a good idea to have a backup anyway. So even if you can't login to your Google Reader RSS Feeds, you'll always have that backup.
Feedly
I've been using the app / website Feedly for my RSS needs. It even had a Google RSS import feature. Pretty slick.

I just wish that the widget would work on Sense Roms :/ I get an error that Force Closes the Personalize settings when applying the widget.
For now, this is what I am using until something else pops up, like the AOL Reader app.
So far I have also tried the Opera browser for pc but there is not an option, in the mobile Opera browser apps, for feeds.
And I just tried all the above and so far I really like quite a few of them. I just hope they'll be able to still access the API needed to continue development.
Hinto
For news reading, you can also use hinto[dot]co
It's a free web app that allows you to select which websites contents to keep up with.
current naadin
I have never used Google Reader. I prefer feedly and Flipboard.
I never used anything else but Netvibes.
Feedly! It's fairly similar to flip board and Google Reader and you can even import your Google Reader setting and news! I love this app and definitely recommend it as your news replacement. Ofc it supports adding rss feeds as well.
Sent from my One using xda app-developers app
i use Google Currents!
