Problems with Flashing under Vista x64 - JAMin, XDA Neo, S200 Software Upgrading

Hello,
I am a reader of this forum since a couple of years, but i never posted myself.
Now the time has come to do it.
I Want to update my Xda Neo to WM6. it is not the first time iam doing this and it is also not the first time flashing a ppc. But it is the first time doing this under vista x64.
I read all the postings, comments, manuals, faqs etc about flashing under vista.
i do deactivate the driver signing every time i boot windows with the F8 method (i know that there are better ways to do this , then i installed the old usb driver and made all the steps of the manuals.
but i have one problem, the ruu crashes with an MFC error?
does anyone have the same error or could help me?
sorry, my english isn't very well.
thank you,
Phd Czxx

There isn't a Vista compatible RUU in the wilderness, you actually can't flash a ROM with the new methot under Vista! Use a virtual XP e.g. in VMWare to flash your device!

as above, have vista HP, running vmware with winxp pro, flashing is not a problem

Post 5 here saying it works for him.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=292492
The thread is about WMDC 1.0 so not sure if that is necessary or not? He also says he upgraded to Vista from XP sp2.
Run Windows XP within VMWare and flashing that way works. I have read reports of a few people doing this as a last resort, and finding it works perfectly.
I'm not sure how *safe* it is since it virtualises your USB ports, so you may be at risk from bricking, but it does work.

Hi!
I made the changes suggested in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=291723
Since then I flashed my Universal 2 times with no problems at all.
Because of the change to the hardware driver I don´t think it has anything to do with the fact that I made an upgrade from XP SP2 to Vista.
Worked on Vista for me to upgrade to WM6, but it wouldn't work on my dash to downgrade. Tried for like 2 hours, then tried once on my XP desktop and worked perfectly.
Using VMWare Workstation 6 worked perfectly for me, I must admit I was surprised.
For a moment actually I thought one could actually upgrade their ROM to Vista! OH! How punctuation changes things!
Here's a quick and easy guide to help get you going with windows vista: http://www.mrvanx.org/cms/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=23&Itemid=27
is it possbile to flash roms with the RUU if ur phones in bootmode..I'm looking to upgrade to vista this is one thing keeping me back..

Using VMware
I had problems flashing using vista so tried Microsoft's virtual pc 2007 but failed to deliver. I then managed to find the latest version of VMWare Workstation which was much more professional and worked so well I got butterflies.
I used to use an old pc for flashing but no more. It works perfect but please please make sure you download and install Vmware workstation 6 plus as anything other crashes on vista. Trust me been there!
And once you have imaged xp make sure you also install activesync 4.5 for best results.
Good luck and pm me if you have any questions.

i have, i downloaded from microsoft
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?
familyid=46F72DF1-E46A-4A5F-A791-09F07AAA1914&displaylang=en
as i read it if you are using wm6 then vista will work for syncing & with no problems getting into boot loader for upgrading etc. with this update
but maybe not for downgrading to wm5 god forbid?
in my experience using wm6 with active sync 4.5 on xp was temperamental. but using wm5 was fine
i am very new to all this but if this helps anyone then it is a good thing
i updated the rom on my ppc6800 useing vista and it worked without flaw, and this is my first pda sence my old palm, which wasnt a phone, and had a non color screen,so im not an expert with this things.
i done wm6 on o2 xda orbit using vista home premium yesterday
1st time 1st try
worked
I'm running Vista Ultimate and have flashed my phone (charmer) numerous times. IMHO, the best way is if you're using RUU, use VMWare Workstation. If you're flashing using some other method which doesn't put your phone in bootloader mode before beginning to flash, then flash directly from within Vista. In fact, for normal flashing this is my favoured method, i.e. flashing directly from within Vista without making the phone enter bootloader. But then again, if you're flashing official ROMs, you only have RUUs in which case use VMWare Workstation.

Yes this can be done. However if your phone is stuck in the bootloader the UNI_ExitBootloader program will NOT run for me. I had to go find a XP machine.

Upgrading & vista

Hi I´ve got a spanish Qtek S200 which I´d like to flash to english.
The furthest I got flashing it was an error 160
I´m using vista.
What noobie error am I making!?
Currently is:
2.9.7.28 ESN
Cannot upgrade using vista must use xp. I had the same problem as well on my dopod818, it shows error 260.
I had the same problem while using other PC.
It crashed my windows several times, so I gave up.
By the way, does anyone knows if the source of the upgrading tool is open? If it was it would be easier to fix the problem for those who are using Vista.
Thats mental!!
and qtek or no other manufacturers have released a get around!?
I´m not exactly the only vista&Qtek owner in the world!
Just a shame my old laptop wont power up!
You won't be able to use Vista. Why don't you set up a virtual machine running XP? You can then run activesync on the VM. VMware is free, you'll just have to get yourself a copy of XP to install.

I do agree, as Vista/Qtek user. But don't get your hopes up to high.
The released RUU's are device specific. I can imagine that the firmware upgrades for the new devices are Vista compatible, but our beloved Prophet is an discontinued product.... As long as there isn't a new official ROM, there won't come a upgrade RUU either...
But I do have an Prophet-RUU that don't crash with Vista (after changing the ActiveSync drivers) but it only works with a signed nk.nbf. It is useless or flashing any other ROM-file then the one it is released with.
I don't know how open those RUU's are. I'm afraid not to much, otherwise some genius would have modded one of them allready!

Stuck on the "boot" screen

Hi,
I tried to upgrade the ROM, unfortunately we had a power cut (sod's law haha) and my PC cut out. Now when I try to turn my XDA on (o2 exec) all I get is a dark screen with USB at the top and V1.01, I've tried the recovery tool included in the update but obviously didn't work because windows doesn't recognise the device.
Any ideas would be MASSIVELY appreciated.
btw I've tried doing a hard reset and pressing 0 but it just resets the device to the above screen =/
Thanks,
Lee
Just Re-Run The Rom Upgrade Utility And Reflash The Rom.
Regards,
OllieD
Tried that several times, the problem is that Vista isn't recognising the device thus the rom flash can't find it. Ive been through all the Wiki how-to's with no avail
Ive Never Flashed With Vista And Never Will.
I Read There Was Issues And Didnt Think It Was Worth The Risk.
Its Never Wise To Run Flashing Software In An OS It Wasnt Designed For.
Anyway Flash With XP And Your Problems Will Be Gone.
I Dont Think XP Even Recognises The Device When Its In Bootloader The Flashing Software Just Knows What To Do, Although The Software Wasnt Designed With Vista In Mind.

There are some year 2004 XP drivers available for Vista. Do a search and you will find it.
It is too late and I am tired. If you can't find it then I will try to help you later.
Good luck and don't worry as nothing is wrong with your device. Wrong drivers for PC.
KOR!
If nothing else works, try using mtty to erase the device, and reflash!
Oh, and word of advice: Never flash with Vista, it f.cks your device! Always do your falshing with XP, that's the most stable out there...

I always flash my devices on Vista, and never had any problems. Though, you have to have proper XP 2004 year driver installed.

Do you try to flash via a hub connection? Because it's recommended to connect the device directly to the PC!
brother go to this link your problem is fixed

well, yeah. but in that case, I could argue that the driver, which counts, is from XP
But anyway, most people here would recommend against flashing in Vista, unless you must. XP is just a lot more stable, and causes fewer problems. but let's not get into which is better, shall we?
help!!!!!
hey guys, ive been stuck in this bootloader thing for ages now its been a day ive had no luck so far im using vista myself and there is no XP computer available to me unfortunately. the mtty utility says cannot open ports, im not using a hub either and the unit_exitbootloader.exe does not help either i need some serious help please. the screen is stuck at USB on the top (whe i take out the usb cable it says Serial on top) and v1.00 on the bottom. please help, ive got vodafone v1640 version of universal. thanks in advance

How do you flash a new ROM with VISTA 64?

I have been searching for quite a while with no luck. I always flash my phone at work because I use a Windows XP machine at work. However, a whole lot of site are blocked with my work's surf control so I can't get alot of cabs I need. My home PC is a Vista 64 system so I'm SOL at home.
My question is, how do you go about flashing a ROM on Vista 64? I always get an error when trying to install the ROMs. Something about upgrade the OS on the computer? And is there something like cab via activesync for vista?
Thanks a ton guys.
I'm using Server 2008 x64. No problems there. It should be the same as Vista x64.
You have of course installed Windows Mobile Device Center? It's Active Sync Vista style
The Doc.
I run Vista 64 on both my machines and have never had a problem flashing. You may want to provide a little more details on what your trying to flash, and what the error is your getting.
yeah im on vista x64 and i havent had a problem unlocking my phone, flashing the radio or flashing the rom

I'm going to try it again tomorrow and i'll report back with the exact error. It could have been the ROMs i was using maybe. I'm doing this on a Tilt.

Frustrations with RUU

I just got my brother's MDA (mine got worn out), and he had upgraded to a TNT WM6 build (not sure which one). I would like to either downgrade back to OEM T-mobile, or try another of the WM6 builds.
The problem comes when I try to run RUU, with the T-mobile version, it gives me an error and wants me to start over, with the SNN 3.1 upgrade, it just shuts down RUU and with both errors it give me the tri colored screen. When I remove the battery and restart, it loads normally.
I have a G3 wizard, IPL/SPL: 2.26, I'm running Vista on my pc, and I have the latest Windows Mobile Device Center. Also the phone is cid unlocked from when my brother upgraded. This is driving me nuts. I am relatively new to the whole rom flashing world, so any thoughts would be appreciated.
As a side note, I also can't get Wizard Service Tools to work, it won't detect my phone, so if that's part of whatever suggestion might be made, I can't really use that.
Thanks.
have you tried flashing from bootloader?
Camera/reset combinaion?
the idea is that you put it into bootloader first, then run the ruu.
Simple answer to all of your problems is Vista, its still not compatible and has many problems.Do it on WinXP,there won't be any problems and its highly recommended.
Secondly,WST_4.2.2 will not work in Bootloaders,it must be run on a working OS.
Agian...
And again, And again, and again...
Why is a thread saying that is a proved method to flash by vista?
Which version of VIsta do you have ?
see this tutorial i have written for flashing RUU in Vista : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=428469

Is there a special version for vista that works? maybe changing the thread name especifying the Version could helps? wich is it? home basic? Bussines? Ultimate?
lol, i meant which Bit do you have, is it a 32-Bit version or a 64-Bit version ?, if its 64, the above tutorial will work...but you have to find the 64-bit version drivers
hi, I've updated a rom before but never on vista 64 where can I find this driver?
64-Bit Drivers :
http://mahmood1.com/Documents/64bit.rar
Notes :
1. YOUR DEVICE MUST BE IN BOOTLOADER BEFORE CONNECTING IT TO THE PC
2. If you are running Windows Vista 64-bit, then driver signing verification is on. In order to turn it off, and, thus, load this driver, you have to reboot the machine and turn driver signing verification off.
When the OS starts to load, hit the F8 key. That will bring up the boot options screen. The "Disable Driver Signing Verification" choice is towards the bottom of the list.
3. if you are running SP1 on your system...updating these drivers will cause RUU to crash when you try to do an upgrade.
4. If you get access denied, try closing your AV and disabling your Firewall
Hope this helps
