Duplicate Notifications - General Topics

I've been getting a ton of duplicate notifications on my phone the last week. I'm on WM6 and have only installed S2U2, task manager and memmaid. Since installing those apps, I've noticed that I get duplicate appointment and alarm reminders.
I've used memmaid to clean up dups but they keep coming back. I did not notice this prior to installs of these apps.
Any ideas?

Had the same problem since installing memmaid, get at least 2 repeat notifications for each diary reminder

Had the same problem. u must remove the corrupt notifications by hand, using memmaid. Just go one by one and see what does not make sence.

Non-Typical Duplicate Reminder Scenario

At first glance, this seems like a simple problem: duplicate reminders! We've all experienced them. There is plenty of software to deal with them. They are usually very easy to fix.
But I have a duplicate reminder issue I just cannot figure out on my Touch Pro. I'm wondering if anybody else has experienced this.
First of all, it doesn't appear to actually be duplicate reminders in the traditional sense. There is only a single entry in the Notification Queue (confirmed in MemMaid and dotfred's task manager). So, please don't reply with "download memmaid."
What happens is this. Every so often, I get a calendar reminder pop-up that appears twice (ONLY the pop-up appears twice -- in the calendar there is only ONE appointment). Basically, it will show "two reminders" and I can flip between them by press left and right, but they correspond to the SAME appointment. I can postpone one and the other is still there. I can postpone that one, but they'll reappear at the next interval. I'm not sure what happens if I postpone one and dismiss the other. I imagine they'll both dismiss since it points to the same entry in the NQ.
It seems to happen most often to recurring appointments (but not always). Each time a dupe recurs, I get two nice little pop-ups. Sometimes deleting the recurring appointment and recreating it fixes that. Sometimes rebuilding the notification queue in memmaid will fix non-recurring appointments (doesn't help recurring).
But this is very annoying because I can't find a common pattern or solution.
Things to note:
1. ActiveSync'ed to Exchange 2007 with Push enabled.
2. Syncing last 30 days of calendar appts
3. Nightly MemMaid clean (every NQ options selected except "rebuild" in my nightly because I don't want postponed reminders to pop-up in the middle of the night)
4. Stock Sprint ROM and Radio
Anybody have any clues? Thanks!

I'm using the latest XDANDROID on my AT&T Tilt2 (Rhodium) and i just simply can't seem to be able to keep it uninstalled. when i try to uninstall it, it seemed like it is indeed uninstalled but every time i reboot and go into XDANDROID, it's back there.
I do not need the extra features. I just generally prefer the simplistic default message function that android already have.
I've only started using android for a few days so far so if i've missed something simple, i apologize in advance. Likewise, if someone could help me with this, I thank you in advance
P.S. I've tried the search function and i just couldn't find anything about uninstalling handcent SMS rather than uninstalling the default messages.

How did you try and uninstall it? Was it through Settings-> Applications, etc, or was it with an unistalling app?

I tried it via setting--> application and a app called aTrackDog. everytime i tried to uninstall it, it was rather quick so i'm assuming that it is only uninstalling a few files and the handcent sms is fixing it every reboot.

Hmmm, well I would try to install it again, and install an uninstaller called Apex, just search for that, its the first one to come up. If Apex doesn't work, and if another regular uninstall through settings doesn't work, then I would leave it, or wipe your phone again if it bothers you too much to have it.
Remember you can just turn Handcent notifications off and turn on the default notifications, set all the messaging to the default messenger and you'll never even know it was there. But I would try to reinstall then uninstall with both of those methods. Let us know how it goes.

i've upgraded handcent from 2.9.29 to 2.9.30 to 'reinstall' it and then used aTrackDog to remove it. it seemed to work perfectly well. so I've went ahead and rebooted to see if it persisted. it didn't. i now have Handcent SMS 2.9.29 still on and that Apex software is buggy since it didn't detect handcent and a number of other apps on it.
gonna try to figure out how to disable Handcent SMS notification and see if it persist. I don't neccessarly have to reset my phone since the XDANDROID is running purely from my microSD (using HARET).
Handcent SMS is really really annoying for me now cause I still have to go into the default SMS client for the notification for that to stop. I'm essientally having double notication for every messages i'm getting.
P.S. I've just noticed that these other apps are also persisting too despite my effort to uninstall them;
Digital Rain
Hero Clocks
Live Wallpaper Picker
Starfield

Well, I'm unfamiliar with the inner workings of Xdandroid and why it wouldn't be uninstalling the apps you don't want, but I'm very familiar with Handcent. So to turn of the notifications, open Handcent and on the screen with all of your conversations press the wrench in the top right. Then go down to Notifications and uncheck the "Display message notifications in status bar" This will stop you from getting double notifications. If you wanted to use Handcent and turn off the notifications in the default, open the default with the conversations listed, go to menu, then settings, and the same thing - uncheck the notifications button.
Perhaps after you uninstall the apps, there is something on your SD card that could be making it still be there. Maybe uninstall the app then mount your SD and do a computer search over your sd for anything dealing with Handcent, or whatever app and delete it. I'm sorry I can't be of more help, hopefully someone else using Xdandroid can give some insight.

Rooting Cause More Processes to Run?

After rooting my phone and removing the ATT bloatware, I noticed that my Advanced Task Killer (Free) program lists more programs running in the background than before? Lots of programs that never popped up when the phone was stock now are showing up in the Task Killer program as running? Is this right? Did something screw up? If I kill all those processes the only ones that consistently comes back are HandCent SMS and Clock.
I've been noticing the default messaging app and clock open up a lot, and sometimes other apps too, like ESPN ScoreCenter, Facebook, etc. are opening up by themselves. Does anyone have any idea why this is happening?
I've noticed that my GPS kicks on every once in awhile too randomly. Usually when I can tell something's running in the background.
If you turn off Background Data in Settings>Accounts and Sync, it stops it almost in its entirety, but you have to turn it on to access the Market. My guess is it's just the programs collecting or sending data regarding use of the program, or with the clock (and possibly other programs) updating itself.
I can see the logic in that some apps need to update, but I never saw these same apps exhibit this behavior before I rooted. ie) Apps running themselves and showing up in my Advanced Task Killer program and now I have to kill them where before I never knew they were there in the first place. No changes to my phone except root. Are these based on the General Sync Settings options like Background Data or AutoSync? I just don't like the idea of all these apps running when I never started them in the first place.
I think you just didn't see them before... rooting isnt going to make apps randomly start doing things they didnt do before.
This needs to be in the gerenral section as well.
it shouldnt cause more to run :/
Sorry if this post is in the wrong section. But yeah, I know those apps that are popping up now weren't there before. I'm sure I didn't miss seeing them as I have all the settings for Advanced Task Killer program set the same in terms of security levels.
Are you saying that rooting my phone made the apps show up now (as in they were just hidden to the OS/program prior to rooting)?
eh
Well The same thing used to happen to me on my HTC desire so it must just be Android (maybe has to do with the build) or just Android in general. I would get stuff like settings and such in the task managers as well etc, exactly to what you guys are describing. They were not really used or needed programs so ending the tasks was no problem. No clue, but this is not only on this device
And yes my HTC DESIRE was rooted as well
Moved to General.

Verizon S3 Notifications go off multiple times- how do i stop this?

I have the default calendar set to not give me and sound or notification and i have the paid version of Business Calender set up to notify me when a reminder pops up. The problem is, i have it sent to go off 1 time and 1 time only in the settings(repeat disabled), yet it repeats itself until i open the notification which is very annoying. This same issue happened on the default calender with Business calenders notifications/sounds disabled.
Anyone have an idea how to fix this, its getting ridiculous when my phone goes off constantly for meetings until i force it to stop. On my thunderbolt, i never had this issue with the same app.
It seems like any notification is doing this(had other apps going off multiple times also)
Rooted with stock PROPER Remake of Full Rooted Stock Image (aka Root66)
Found out it was the sound file i used, a .OGG file from my old thunderbolt. Converted to MP3 and the issue was solved.

Samsung Interface Not Updating

All,
First time poster, frequent visitor of XDA Forums. I've come across an odd issue that I don't know how to solve and I'm hoping some of you smarter than me folks can get me squared away.
I have a Galaxy S8+ from AT&T running Android 7.0 and Samsung Experience 8.1.
Problem:
I've recently noticed a delay or completely non-updating interface on my phone. It updates on occasion, but I can't determine what triggers an update. For example, I will pick up my phone from the desk and when I press the power button it shows the accurate time. When I unlock the device, the sense flip clock I use on the main home screen shows an earlier time (could be 30 minutes... could be a few hours). I don't believe it's just the Sense app because I noticed this issue where I checked a facebook messenger app that came and and when I closed the app, it still showed I had 1 notification. I went back in thinking I had another new message, but I didn't. So it was still hanging on to the notification. It happened a couple times with a text message as well. Most importantly, my calendar doesn't alert me prior to an appointment either, even though it's showing in my calendar and an alert is active. If I save an event, and exit, I can normally see the event appear on the on widget immediately as well... but that hasn't been happening. I have to press the widget to open it and confirm it is there (which it always is). Eventually it refreshes and shows up. But that delay is likely the reason why I'm not getting my alerts.
All of this did seem to happen after a recent update Samsung/AT&T pushed out but I don't know for sure. I tried clearing the cache from the boot menu but it doesn't seem there is wide success with that.
And perhaps I'm just not a good enough user, but everything isn't all backed up in the cloud so doing the factory reset to me is always a fairly large task as I have many things to manually transfer out and then back in. Not sure if there are great tools that help with this on a stock phone.
BUMP
try disabling battery optimization for those apps.
It seems that you have several bugs and if they all start happening after you have installed the latest update, then expect a patch coming soon.

I have actually done that. Found very limited success. I'm also finding very few results on this topic. Surely it's not just me though.
And I'm dreading the idea of a hard reset as I have many things on my phones, not all of which is sync'd to the cloud so it's a task to back things up appropriate. Specifically regarding "encrypted" apps like my password keeper app etc.
It would be great if there was a software application that allowed you to backup whatever is necessary to not lose data, then wipe the phone and instead of just simply restoring the full phone (which is likely to create the same problem one had before the hard reset), you could simply dump back in app data as needed. It would also help diagnose if the problem lies in a specific app's data.
High level overview of issues...
I have the Ring Doorbell app. I get notifications after "live". Could be 5 minutes, could be 1 hour... or possibly not at all. I have the app setup on my wife's iPhone and she gets them immediately. If I restart the phone, I will get notified right away (it's like it runs the app again and then I get the notification). Keep in mind, this is AFTER i disabled the battery optimization feature for the Ring app.
I also notice it occasionally with texting. I won't have any text notification in the notification panel, nor will my messaging icon have a little red circle indicating a message is there. But if I open the app, a specification conversation will have a red circle indicating a new text is unread.
All of this is leading me to believe the Samsung UI itself is not updating and therefore notifications that actually have arrived (from whatever app), are not displaying because of the UI and not because of their own delay.
Because of this concern I have turned off battery optimization for "System UI", "Themes", and "TouchWiz Home". I have not seen any change however.
[Solved]
I was able to determine by various other threads around the web (thought for sure I'd find it here, but I didn't) that the culprit might be the Google app. Supposedly it was fixed in some prior release, but it's not on my Galaxy S8+ w/ AT&T.
Once I disabled the Google app all the odd issues with notifications and clock interfaces and app icons not updating went away. The downside to disabling it is that I lose the Google Assistant functionality which stinks but otherwise there is no impact to using the phone. I re-enabled it at a later date and it worked fine for a few days and then started acting up again. Once I disabled it, the problems all disappeared. Clearly Google app is to blame.
