t mobile dash - Non-Touchscreen Windows Mobile Other

hi all....ok 3 things i would like answers for if someone could help me.
1. i have the t mobile dash and i am running wm5.it is unlocked and i wish to upgrade it to wm6.now i know on the t mobile website they have the upgrade for free but u have to have a t mobile number in order to get the upgrade.i live in Ireland and we don't have that here.i am with o2.just wondering is it possible for me to get wm6 and will i have to pay for it.
2.is it really worth upgrading it too wm6.
3. does anyone know if i can get this for free an were to get it..thanks very much...

a search here on this site would provide the answers to all of your questions.
1) yes... it's possible. no you wouldn't have to pay for it. (make sure that unless you're cid unlocked too (not the same as sim unlocked) you get the tmobile update and not one of the other non-tmobile roms).
2) depends on who you ask. the majority of folks though have made the upgrade. the advantages seems to outweigh any issues.
3) yes. search here for it.

I would recommend searching for the Rogers rom - You will have to enter the settings for your specific carrier after you flash it, though.

Unlocking UK G1 (newbie)

Hi all,
Im due to get a G1 from a friend of mine and Im slightly confused/overwhelmed by the threads here on how to unlock the phone..
What is the best way to unlock the phone? Im assuming I cant call 611 as Im in the UK and the phone is a UK phone, or am I wrong?
Is the best approach to go to http://www.unlock-tmobileg1.com ?? or is there a software way of doing it?
I know this is almost certainly posted here, but Im confused/blinded by all the other entries..
Thanks,
Angelo
i'm not too sure about who to call, but apparently t-mobile offer to unlock it for £15 which is better than the £17 offered by that site (i'd much prefer to trust t-mobile too )
you're best bet is to ring up t-mobile and speak to them about it. make up some **** about leaving the country or something, it will probably work
Many thanks
Many thanks, appreciate the clarity
you should be able to tell them you are going over seas and want to put a pre-paid sim in when you get there and for that you require the phone to be unlocked

Network locked sensations.

I am planning to buy a second hand sensation from eBay and wanted to know if the phone is locked or unlocked to a network. Can I then load on the same software you would get on a sim free version. The reason for this is so I can get ota updates when HTC send them and not have to wait for the network provider to tinker before hand.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
I'm not sure that you could tell whether it was tied to a network without asking the seller.
The tied phones are no different to the SIM-free ones, except that they have the "S-ON" set, are not rooted, and in some cases (e.g. Orange) are loaded with bloatware (who really wants a 3-turn demo of monopoly that cannot easily be removed?! )
However, once you have the phone, you can use the instructions on this site, e.g. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192300 to break it free and install whatever you want!
As far as updates go, they seem to appear here far faster than they get pushed out, and there are some much better than stock ROMs. If you want to stay stock, look at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1193033. In addition, some kind soul has collated all the ROMS here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1074559 so that you can change as you want.
I would just buy it and not worry!
Ok just got a sensation off ebay for £240 and its locked to orange. will follow advice from links above to root and get s off etc but from the list of roms which is the current and most up to date stock uk unlocked sim free rom?
will this also give the same root and s off to flash any rom i wish?
http://lifehacker.com/5789397/the-always-up+to+date-guide-to-rooting-any-android-phone
Bootloader unlocking, rooting, and getting S-OFF.... all have nothing to do with SIM unlocking. Your phone will still be locked to only Orange SIMs unless you obtain and enter an unlock code.
follow steps here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1232107
you need to root etc first.. then sim unlock
That's odd.
I didn't do the extra step, and I was able to use a T-Mobile SIM regardless. Mine came from Orange too. Perhaps there are some that are unlocked anyway, or perhaps it's because T-Mobile are part of the same group now??
In any case, glad that someone was able to help out!

Huawei U9200

Hello xda! I'm just another fellow newb here. So on to my topic, I would like to know that if im in Canada with wind mobile and I flash a Chinese rom, will it say I'm roaming because I'm not in China? And will flashing the b508/b226 firmware (official non rooted) void my warranty? And also do I have to unlock my sim before I can do this? Or can I just go ahead, install the Chinese rom and change the language to English? I don't care about the software much as i can add missing apps in later, I'm just worried that the device may not even work as a phone after I do this ( I'm worried the cellphone radio would be searching for Chinese providers and frequencies and wouldnt work on wind mobile-they won't return or exchange it) I'm not so sure about wind refusing to fake it back because I didn't root the phone and I only updated to a not yet OTA update. And can I still downgrade back to my original carrier software (wind mobile Canada) (which I have no idea how to do once I flash the b508/b226)???? Thanks to all those who can waste a little bit of their time to help me out. I'd really appreciate any efforts as I know I cannot get great help like xda's from anywhere else! Thank you so much xda community!:thumbup:

Found HTC Touch Pro (at&t with somekind of windows?)

So I found the phone for at&t and somekind of windows os. My question is, can I make it run on android or/and can I make it run with t-mobile sim card?
EDIT: I just found out that I can unlock it using a code, however all websites charge a fee. Is there a free website with codes I can use?

No, you're going to have to pay, only high score users of XDA get free unlocks on raphael.
I have an unlocked ATT Fuze here with the dongle included that I need to sell, since I got an Xperia Play. It's less obsolete!
You can make it run Android, but it's probably never going to be very reliable. If you reflash to a WM6.5.3 ROM without a lot of junk and with good optimization (like NRG3) then it is still a pretty good phone, with a pretty good selection of software, you can use VOIP for incoming calls, et cetera.

Network/Carrier Unlocking Iphones and Androids

Hi Guys! I'm kinda new to the forum. I made an account a while ago, but I never really used it... until now.
Let me just say that you guys helped me out more than once before, but now I need to ask questions to which I haven't been able to get a direct answer to. I dabbled in phone repair (mainly just rooted a few androids). I'm still a novice, but I'd like to start getting work experience. I'd like to start my own business unlocking, repairing, and eventually, creating custom ROMS for all phone models. But I'm still not 100% clear on a few things.
Is it at all possible to unlock android phones by flashing an international ROM? For example, let's say I have an Samsung Gakaxy S7, model SM- G930V (Locked to Verizon), could I, in any way, flash a 930F ROM (oran international variant of the 930F) onto that phone to unlock it? If not, what methods are available to me? Besides the obvious "contact your carrier and have them do it". There are a few sites such as
unlockauthority
unlockradar
That claim to be able to unlock your phone, but how do they do it? Are these sites even legit? I've heard of a few programs, such as Chimera Tools, that claim to be able to do the same thing, but the questions remain the same: are they legit, and if so, how to they do it? Can I learn to do it myself? If so, how? If not, why?
The same applies to iPhones, which I hear require iCloud to unlock. If I have an iPhone X, locked to AT&T or T-Mobile, can I just log in to iCloud and unlock it from there in just a few clicks for free?

This guy claims to be able to unlock "any" iPhone by just inputting a few codes. I question the legitimacy of this, of course, but I don't have access to a locked iPhone to verify.
Again, I'd like to start a business. Most people are looking to unlock their phones, so that would be my focus.
If anyone can help me, if even a little, I'd be very grateful.
And of course, once I learn more about mobile devices, I'll be able to help you

Generally speaking, you can't use firmware from one model on a different model, especially when it comes to any kind of Verizon device, that leads to a bricked device. There are cases where you can flash a firmware from a different model number, but those are rare cases and the devices are virtually identical hardware/software(bootloader).
If you're trying to unlock bootloader on any kind of Verizon Samsung device with 4.4 Kiit Kat or newer android, you can give up on that idea, you'll never make it happen, many, many, many people have tried, there is no way to do it. Verizon/Samsung has that locked down tight.
When it comes to unlocking phones, there is no general way of doing so. That is case by case and model number by model number. Not all phones can be unlocked and the ones that can be unlocked use different methods. You'll have to find the method for each specific model number.
We can't help in the iPhone department, this is an android development site, it doesn't deal with iPhone at all, not in any shape, form or fashion. You'll have to go somewhere else with that.

Thank you very much for your input! I'd like to keep this thread open, in case anyone else has something to share.
I really appreciate your help. From what I understand, unlocking Androids can only "safely" be done by contacting the appropriate carrier, or finding a specific method for each phone model.
