backlight and 20-keypad problem -Easy-fix? - Touch Cruise General

Hi,
I`m very annoyed with the HTC-ROM bugs.
Is there an easy way to fix the 10sec. backlight-off problem.
And that always is the 20-keypad active.
Is there an way to start with the last used screen instead the Today-screen
from standby??
I´m only an PPC-user not an PPC-specialist!
Thanks
Medes

To change default keyborad search for SIPchange. For backlight - if you're talking about in call one, just install the file attached.

Hi vasil,
thanks for the SIPchange tip.
My Backlight Problem is, that it ALWAYSS turns off after 10 seconds.
What does your cab file do? Only backlight-ON when a call is active??
Thanks ,
Medes

Got the Start Menu -> settings -> System -> Backlight -> Battery Power, and change the "Turn off backlight if device is not used for.." setting.

Worked on mine. Are you waiting at least two minutes before resetting the TC? If not, then you're not giving the setting time to get saved.

Thank You!
Now I had set 1Min and after Registry change wait a bit..
Now it works!

I will be crazy!
The Lock Level is is still 1 !!! and the Display is off after 10 seconds.
But This afternoon it had worked... But now?
Why doesnt it work on my Orbit 2 ??

Sharer777 - thanks for those reg entries. FYI, they are not formatted correctly. I had to make some minor changes to get them to take effect. I had to add "Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00" at the top of the file, and took out an extra blank line at the bottom of the file before it would import.
Also, in my SIP list, while it got rid of touch-keyboard, it still lists touch keyboard. I'll try a reset and see if that clears it up.
Thanks for that though..I've been looking for that!!

Agreed, thanks, but I removed the backlight update anyway. I realised that the advantage of the screen turning off after a few seconds is that I don't press the screen with my fat face and run loads of programs by accident...

As mentioned the .cab fix has solved the problem but created another, I have just finished a 33 min phone call and my face is no fire, is there a happy medium fix somewhere, or could there be ie. backlight switches off after 1,2,3,4..mins and not 10 seconds?
FYI - there is also the same related thread, Problem: display turns of during call - can they be joined?

Ive also the problem, that i can change the backlight time from 10 secs to 30 or more... but also after restart, its again @ 10 secs!!! Think, thats an annoying bug.

XDA Neo
hi,
I have also the 10secs display darken Problem on the orbit2.
I had same problem on XDA Neo, found no (working!) reg fix for that, only the program BatteryStatus had an option to clear the problem out.
Can it be a O2 based problem?

found something working:
try this:
\HKCU\ControlPanel\Backlight\LockLevel
ignore the LockLevel key inside the LockLevel folder...RENAME the folder to LockLevelx...i tried various other strategies but this caused the phone to eventually recreate the LockLevel folder with the proper key inside...but this time the key was set to 0 instead of 1. it's been 2 weeks with multiple soft resets and the backlight settings have been surviving as they should...

Koerc, you are my man! It works!
Cheers,
Derek.

Backlight when keyguard activated

Any ideas how I get the backlight to come on when the keyguard is activated? Its really hard to see the keys.
Also, in windows mobile 5 on my XDA mini s the keyguard deactivated when the passcode was entered. on this version the 'enter' button has to be pressed before the pass code is accepted. Can this be switched off?
Cheers!

I have the same questions... can anybody help us?

This is a big problem. Today I was outside and the sun was shining. I could not enter the passwort because the screen was too dark... I need some help.

Hi there, could you tell me where you found the reg hacks? I would like to give it a go since I am desperate enough to try anything to sort this problem out.
This Registry entry swichtes on backlight when device is suspended and blocked:
Rename folder HKCU\ControlPanel\Backlight\LockLevel to:
HKCU\ControlPanel\Backlight\LockLevelX
OK, accept = yes, Soft-Reset
It's somewhere in tricks thread, for me it works like a charm.

After soft reset, HKCU\ControlPanel\Backlight\LockLevel come back again & HKCU\ControlPanel\Backlight\LockLevelX appear to be a new registry entry.

Yes, that is right, both folders are there now. When creating LockLevelX, did you click in ok on the top / right side of screen ?
Rgds,
Yes I did that.
I thought your suggestion will turn the backlight on when we press the key while the key is locked.
Anyway your suggestion can help in the following scenario

I feel sorry when it's not what you were looking for. Anyway, "my suggestion" comes from HTC Polaris tweaks and tricks
Rgds,
Hi I found this 'fix' on google, i think it was on an HTC forum (i.e. via htc website).
I have O2 Orbit2 and had the dim screen on keylock/password lock. (While those who don't have it may not see the problem i couldn't actually tell if the machine was on or not, in sunlight, to unlock!)
The solution was to goto HKCU\ControlPanel\Backlight\LockLevel
and change the value to 00000003.
The only issue is that on my Orbit2, using PHM regedit, this immediately 'fixes' the issue but reverts on reset!
Just means I have to re do the reg edit after every reset.
BTW have been very annoyed at the '10 second' backlight bug so am hoping locklevelx will fix that.
Very glad to say that renaming lock level to locklevelx has sorted out both problems! I now have both folders HKCU\ControlPanel\Backlight\LockLevel&HKCU\ControlPanel\Backlight\LockLevelx
The backlight now goes off after 30 seconds when the keys are unlocked.
When the keys are locked the backlight stays on for ten seconds, it will then come back on for ten seconds with any button press or screen tap.
On resume from standby, locked or unlocked the backlight is on.
Step by step of what edits I made.
HKCU\ControlPanel\Backlight\LockLevel; value set to 00000003;
then
HKCU\ControlPanel\Backlight\LockLevel renamed to HKCU\ControlPanel\Backlight\LockLevelx
HKCU\ControlPanel\Backlight\ string battery timeout; value set to 30
SOFT RESET
Then looking at the registry
HKCU\ControlPanel\Backlight\LockLevel; has value 0
HKCU\ControlPanel\Backlight\LockLevelx; has value 00000003 (displayed as 3)
HKCU\ControlPanel\Backlight Battery timeout = 30
As previously mentioned the renaming of the folder worked on my orbit II

keyboard backlight?

how can i adjust the length of time that my keyboard light stays on, mine only stays on for like 10 seconds.
Just install advanced config tool. Fixes that and lots of other stuff. I can't believe you weren't aware of act. Are you putting me on? I should suggest a search would have helped. Lol.
really? a search? why didnt i think of that? silly me.
btw ac is set to 10 minutes and it turns off in 10 seconds
keyboard backlight? ive never once seen a option for that in any tweak...
screen backlight yes
its in the advanced configuration tool
The only working fix I have heard of for the keyboard backlight is this: http://www.nuerom.com/BlogEngine/page/nueKBLight.aspx
...And it works quite well...
cool i shal give it a try, thanks
worked great man thanks, can you tell me where the customization is located for it? the installer told me where it was but i forgot and looked all over for it but cant find it LOL.

Help! ( Touch Pro 2, home screen reversion )

Hey all,
First, I'd like to say that so far the Touch Pro 2 is freaking awesome, but It's been doing something since I got it that is driving me up the wall;
So, say I'm in gsplayer or Opera, and for whatever reason, the screen turns off ( I hit the power button, it times out for power conservation, whatever... ). Whenever I turn the screen back on, the Clock in Touch Flow 3D shows up. GAH >_<
Is there any way to just open the phone back up to what I was looking at when the screen turned off? Help me XDA-Developers, you're my only hope!
-AceSmythe
update:
I went to the home configuration and disabled TouchFlo 3D , and it doesn't revert to the home screen when I reset
Does anyone know how to tell TouchFlo 3D to not re-assert itself every time I turn the screen on? I didn't see anything obvious in the registery
Thanks,
AceSmythe
I have a Touch Diamond 2 and i don't have this problem..
When i just hit the power button to turn the screen off, and 1 minute later when i turn it back on, everything is still the same as i left it. All the programs are still opened.
Maybe you hit the right 'hang up' key?? Because when you press it you go back to the homescreen
I'm pretty sure I know the difference between the power button at the top of the device and the hang up button near the bottom, thanks.
Anyone around who actually has a Touch Pro 2?
I have this issue with my Blackstone, using Duttys 3.9.
I have seen this issue before and as far as i have found out there is no soution to this. The only thing that could help is turning off the Msofts LOCK app. Unfortunately mine is on due to exchange security policy.
If your lock is not on, then im afraid i dont know

What does that app do and how would I turn it off?
I also went into the registry and disabled the Home tab for TouchFlo 3D, but the issue persists
( registry entry HKLM\Software\HTC\Manila\Configuration\0\Enable , set to 0 )
To any who are curious, this appears to be a viable method of removing Home, Programs, and Settings from the TouchFlo 3D tabs. On my device, 0 is Home, 2 is Programs, and 12 is settings
On another note that's completely unrelated, don't install the SRSwow control panel if you don't have drivers/hardware for it. It completely crippled the speakers and mic on the phone, and Voice Command ( voicecommand.exe ) freaked out whenever I tried to start it. Luckily, removing the software through Start -> Settings -> System -> Remove Programs and doing a full reset fixed everything
( above 2 paragraphs included for people Googling either issue )
Anyway, back to the home screen thing... any other thoughts?

If you are using the lock app (which locks the screen) you can turn it off/on by going to (on my HD) settings/all settings/personal/lock and disable it if enabled.
It may not help you, but is a known issue regarding this particular problem.
Greetz.
Have you unchecked the today timeout?
Go to Settings/Personal/Today/Items and make sure it's unchecked.

Yes and makes no difference, but cheers for the idea.
Yeah, that was the first thing I tried aswell
** Warning **
Do not install the TouchFlo Detacher, it WILL break TouchFlo on your system
See http://freewareppc.com/utilities/touchflodetacher.shtml , then avoid it like the plauge
-AceSmythe
Sorry for the lateness of this post, after a full wipe and reinstall of everything ( after the TouchFlo 3D disaster mentioned above ) the home screen does not assert itself anymore. Per suggestion, I did not enable the lock. I'd test turning on the lock and off again, but I don't want to push my luck
Thanks one and all

Mod Edit : No probelms, but no need for the final comment, so I have removed it
Now what would really solve this if you could check the registery to find the key responsible. I will have a look at mine in depth but i fear i will not find it.

WM 6.5 lockscreen

Hello everybody
Today i flashed the new official rom on my topaz.
But i`ve got one little problem. When turning of the display the lockscreen doesnt activate automatically. So i first have to press start and then press lock.
Isn`t there another way? So when you turn of the display it automatically launches the lockscreen.

I tried it but it doesnt work...
there is a reg edit to lock the display when the screen dims.
Can't remember where it is but it's lockenable under control/backlight i think..
It will auto lock when you turn off the display as well...
Just use some reg editor and search for "lock", you'll probably spot the key you're looking for.
I use http://montecristoff.webs.com/diamondtweak.htm and there I activated automatic lock, and everytime I press the power button the phone locks and the lockscreen is on. Hope that helps.

no need for any of these 3rd party apps, this was a major niggle of mine with 6.1 and 6.5.
Use RegEdit (if you have it by default with winMo 6.5) or use TotalCommander, navigate to the following registry option:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\BackLight\AutoDeviceLockEnable
and change the value from 0 to 1, save and exit.
Now when you use the TD2 power button on top of the device to turn of the screen it will automatically lock the device too.
Worked on my TD2 using original 6.1 ROM and the 6.5 Leo cooked ROM's from Dutty I have used in the last month.
this is well documented tip in these forums:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=570757
There is nothing like autodevice lock in official htc 6.5 rom. There is HKCU/controlpanel/backlight/locklevel. I changed the value from 0 to 1, soft reset and nothing happened. I`ll try some of diamond tweaks...
...sorry, double post...
Hi there, does anyone konw why after a period of time the lockscreen will only show upper half instead of full screen? Any solution there ? thanks.
easy solution
found it out the other day myself, but seemed to had lost this post lol
if you hold down the 'end call' key, that will lock the screen for you, save you having to go into start then lock

As I mentioned back in post #9 you can use RegEdit in WinMo 6.5 or download and install TotalCommander to edit the registry, there are many other registry editing tools out there as well just, search for them

I just tried a lot of key-combinations and I got one that works (for me...).
If you press the home key (don't release it) and then press the powerbutton. Now it will normally lock the device.

I tried that. It is OK to lock the mobile when the backlight dims or when putting the mobile to sleep.
But I wouldn't autolock the screen when the backligt dims, only when putting the mobile to sleep (manually or automatically). A solution generally for WM6.5 or particularly for Topaz - Duttys ROM?

No Auto Lock after new ROM - want my Slider back!

After upgrading to the new official ROM my Auto Lock Slider disapeared.
I installed BSB Tweaks 1.2 and turned "Auto Lock" to on. Then Softreset. But the Slider was still gone.

Then Softreset.
But nothing happend. Still no Auto Lock Slider.
Any ideas?

I think it's the weird behavior of BsB which is causing the problem. Let me guess, did you install BsB immediately after the upgrade? I did not, had no problems whatsoever, but later after a hard-reset I immediately installed BsB and yes, had the same weird problems as you described.

Same for me, just locked it once manually, then it works again. Didnt need to install anything.

I had the same prob. the best solution is to check auto lock in BsB. After that exit BsB but DON'T soft reset with BsB. just exit. Then Power off the phone and switch it back on manually!!!!

These thing did not work for me ether.
I did the follow:
holded the "turn off" button down, and pressed the device-lock button, and then it worked.
Good Lock
Power Button tips works but not after soft reset. Yuo should use this exe:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=5086288&postcount=2
And then copy into Windows\Startup so each time HD2 boot, it will start also the lock screen, then after you switch off the screen the lock will be always active!
I ve upgraded to 1.48 3 days ago, since then i ve never came across that lock screen problem nor the other mail problem, others appear to associate these two together.
I havent installed BsB tools though i dont know if this has something to do with it or i just got lucky or its some other app that makes the conflict that i dont use.
