SGH i617 Blackjack II Startup issues - Non-Touchscreen Windows Mobile Other

At this point we've figured out how to completely get rid of the startup video and sound and replace that with default images.
That was done with quksilver's post here:
http://www.modaco.com/content-page/263811/TheLostSouls-Thread-of-Tips/page/20/
It may have been originally some where else but that is the first time I saw it.
The startup option where you delete the entire value displays three images:
Mystery Image (This may also be called ms_splash.png but in a different location)
/windows/ms_splash.png
/windows/carrier_splash.png
I have a few questions. The first image displayed is not ms_splash.png unless it is somewhere different as I have replaced that file and confirmed that it is indeed different. So I'm wondering where that image is and if we can somehow manipulate it.
Second, I'd like to not just remove the startup animation but change it entirely if that could ever be a possibility
Third, I'd like to be able to bring the sound back in if we can't change the animation. Manipulating the sound isn't hard as it's just a matter of changing start.wav to something else, same with the shutdown sound.
If this is making any sense let me know if you guys have any ideas, if it isn't I'll clarify, I can also post the details of the posts that I have read if that helps pull it all together.

BlackJack or I600?
i haw i600 it no BlackJack version! BlackJack not wifi and other more functions.

Messaging and device lock disappeared from todayscreen

I just noticed that the today items messaging and device lock disappeared from my today screen on my Atom. I would like to get them back. anybody know how? The don't show up in start>setting>today>items however, they are visible in the registery (and enabled) and visible with memmaid.
Please let me know if there is an other solution than to hrad reset my device.
Thanks in advance
there are limits of how many today items you can have
forgot how many
but the today item list is limited to 13
if you remove some in the reg the ones you are missing will show up
in today items
Hi Rul,
The other thing to check in your registry is the value of the Reg_DWord called "Order" for each of your plug-ins. Occassionally my plugins will play hide and seek if I've installed a new one and its default order number clashes with any of the other plugins. They do however still show up in the today settings. I'll post my reg settings so you can check yours are ok and then double chekc that the dll's for each are where they are supposed to be.
Good luck - Mallow1
Oops, forgot to mention that for me I have the Device Lock disabled anyway (so just ref to the other reg settings) as I have it in the sys tray instread to save Today Screen space, thanks to an excellent cab writen by armstrom http://buzzdev.net/component/option,com_simpleboard/Itemid,59/func,view/catid,27/id,17285/#17285 which uses the underlying Device Lock but via an exe which you can then assign to the sys tray using any of the tray launcher programs out there.
Regards - Mallow1
PS I swapped the icon out to be the same as Device Lock (armstrom's exe uses a different one if you happen to go down this route).
Thanks for you reply's.
With the messaging and device lock items I have 13 today items. (now 11 since these two don't show up anymore).
I have checked the Reg_DWord called "Order" and there are no clashes...
Any other solution?
Thanks for the device lock thingy in the sys tray, very useful.
What have you done differently since the last time you could see your missing items? Loaded anything else? Reflashed etc? It may help us track down what has gone wrong if Rudegar's suggestion didn't work and you have no clashes when you checked my suggestion.
Of all your 13 items do you run/ wish to run all of them or are some disabled (and unlikely to be used again). If some are redundnat, did you try Rudegar's suggestion of removing them from the registry?
On a side note, and without wishing to get side tracked or complicate your issue have you tried "MoreTodays" to see if that helps at all if all your 13 items are "must haves" but you are only seeing 11. It allows you to have multiple Today Screens each showing different plug ins. Depending upon how it works it may allow for >11 (or >=13) whatever the formal limit is, plugins to operate. See http://www.jgui.net/moretodays/index.html
Regards - Mallow1
Some of the today Items are disabled, in fact 5 of the 13. So I deleted a couple of them. Still not showing ion my todayscreen.
Well, as far as I know I have installed some programs, don't know exactly which I have installed, so that's not really helping.
I tried the program you've suggested and I can select messaging and device lock. But they still don't show up on my todayscreen.
I think I will have to learn to live with it, which is not that hard though, or I will have to hard reset my device.
Thanks for your help and suggestions.
After you deleted some from your registry did you try a simple soft reset (rather than having to resort to the horror of a hard one)?
yep, did that after every change I've made. No results though.
Sounds basic but have you checked that the dll files concerned are still present. If they are present it may be that a path is wrong in the registry (try adding an explicit path/double checking path matches location), else we can resort to simply replacing them just in case they have been corrupted.
On that last point did you try the Device Lock exe I highlighted. If that works it means that the underlying device lock dll works too (as the exe uses it rather than emulates it) and it is therefore a Today Screen issue we are facing not a corrupted dll.
Now that you removed your unwanted dll refs from the registry, how many Today Items are there left there? I have at the back of my mind that there is also an upper limit to the number of resources WM can handle at any one time (think I recall this causing problems with Wisbar not being able to skin a few things simply because too much was already loaded and the required dll file scould therfore not be used).... but we can save broadening the issues until we've eliminated the simpler more direct ones.
Regards - Mallow1
PS FYI I have 9 Today items in my registry and 7 that are enabled. If you delete your unused 5 items out of 13 that would at least bring you down to within the same range loaded in my registry and we could eliminate the "number in registry" from the list of possible issues.
Ooh, another quick one to try (I use it when I have items checked in the Today settings that have failled to show in the Today Screen), is try running this little app which simply refreshesd the Today Screen. See if your missing items appear afterwards.

Hi, i love your today screen! Tidy but functional! Could you please tell me what apps/plugins etc you've got going on there?
Hi fuel925,
Thanks. There's something like 30-40 packages making up the entire screen and functionality. Rather than clutter this thread with an off topic reply I'll see what I can knock up and post in a separate thread to give you an insight and post a link here afterwards.

Hi. Mallow1
I've tried everything, nothing is working. I rest my case. Thanks for your help anyway.

Rul
Hi Rul,
Sorry to hear that. I've heard that theAtom has had a chequered start. Sounds like hard reset time (and I did hear somewhere that since so many of the early Atoms were having problems that an updated ROM had been relased quite quickly post launch). If yours was an early one you may find searching or checking for the updated ROm and reflashing helps (I want to say I think I saw this with respect to Aussie Atoms but can't swerar to it).
Anyway. Good luck - Mallow1
When I got my Atom I imediately put the "leaked" ROM on it. So it is not the case of an old ROM or something.
I just noticed that it is not showing the smartdailing plugin from the Treo 700w I just installed on it. So I guess there is something seriously wrong with the today plugins.

Somehow lost my bootscreen

I don't know what I did, but instead of the Windows Mobile bootscreen (the one that comes after the first bootscreen with version numbers on it) I just get a completely white screen. Still loads into WM5 fine tough. Now how can I get my nice Windows Mobile bootscreen back?
Hmm, from what I've seen on this forum, the WM splash comes from a ROM file called welcome96.png (under windows).
It is possible to overwrite this file but that would take some effort (you must use a cab, or total commander).
Could some app you installed recently have messed with the file?
I just installed the pRSSreader beta2 prior to noticing the error, so it may be that, but I'm not sure.
//EDIT:
I uninstalled it and I got my bootscreen back.
Thought of another possibility:
Does this program add anything to startup/init?
Maybe it somehow jams the startup process (takes up all the CPU cycles?) and prevents windows from displaying the splash?
I think you should look for some kind of app (sorry don't know any my self) that can launch other programs on schedule, lets say a sec or two after the device is fully up. That will solve your other problem as well (the one with unknown file on startup)

Change of Welcome Screen

Hi Guys,
I am using HTC 8900 (AT & T) Unlocked phone and I wish to change the Welcome screen from AT & T to HTC or else something of my choice. Please advice me and let me know if i have posted in wrong blog.
Regards,
Siddh
Hi there
You can use Advanced Config to change the welcome screen.
Prepare your desired pic e.g 240X320 PNG format then your AC to change.
Hi,
I have searched a lot on this issue, and would like to share what I have learned.
There are two types of opening screen in our device. One is generally called the boot screen and the second one is called splash screen.
The boot screen is the one you see first when you boot up the device This screen comes inside the ROM you load to your device and not very easy to change afterwards! This screen is generally the rom's builder's own signature. There are some programs to change this screen afterwards for some other HTC phones, like for hermes, but no program has been made yet for Kaiser. So the only way to change this image is to replace your own image to the .nbh file before installing a new rom to your device.
The second screen is called splash screen and there are some programs to change this image. In fact it's an image file under windows directory. However, in my opinion it does nothing but delays the boot period, and useless. I believe there should be only one opening screen.

Hmmm... and you say you did alot of research on this??
Actually there are 3 screens when booting up the kaiser.. The splash screen (1st screen) is very easy to change after flashing a Rom. Tools have been made specifically for this purpose for the Kaiser and I have attached all programs needed plus instructions on how to do it in this post. I believe this is the screen you wish to change as each chef usually includes his/her own custom splash screen.
If you dont want to make your own splash screen then some of the member download sites include splash screens that are ready to use in the correct .nbh format (P1Taters Download Site has alot of splash screen files + animated and boot screen files to use).
The 2nd screen is the animated.gif file in the windows folder which can simply be changed, as can the 3rd screen (boot or welcome screen) in the windows folder which is called welcomehead.96.png but this 3rd screen isnt really needed and is disabled by some chefs to speed up boot times.
Thanks for these long and clear explanations. It seems my research took me to a wrong way thanks very much for correcting me.
I am starting to try this solution right ahead.
Regards.

4th splash screen
Hello,
Although i admire and respect all the information found here, i'm facing a challenge with my splash screens, that goes in a totally diferent way than what i found here.
I flashed my kaiser with the December HyperDragon Rom, hopping to get rid of all the signals of the Portuguese service provider that sold the equipament.
Everithing went normal until i restarted the device. At this point i found that i had 4 splash screens (yes, its strange but its true).
When restarting i see first the HyperDragon splash. After that i'm keeping (against my willa TMN (portuguese carrier) screen that is on while presenting the radio/protocol info. After this i see the HTC splash, and finnaly WM6.1 splash.
I've already reported this strange event to Mr. Sakajati, but i'm still missing in posting a video of the sequence.
Lets see if someone has ever faced a similar situation and can give me some info.
Thanks

You could try flashing a Stock WM6.1 Rom which should wipe all traces of any other service provider screen, then after you are down to the 3 main screens you should have no problem updating to a custom Rom.
so i made my own welcomehead in photoshop but i cant force it into the windows folder because it is rom. ive tried file explorer and resco explorer.

Try copying it across via activesync with your pc. You might need to take off the read only attributes before you can overwrite it.
i use vista so the windows folder doesent even show up

This ROM problem is driving me mad!!!

Okay. I have exhausted all possibilities that I can think of for this problem. The last few ROM's I've ported have been fine, except for one thing. After flashing (or hard reset) the ROM displays the splash screen and then goes to the welcome screen (displays welcomehead.96). However, when the LogoMsg.bmp popups up (the text that says, "The device is clearing the storage. Please wait.) it only displays for a few seconds then leaves. A few seconds later the tone that accompanies the "Tap screen to begin setting up your device" sounds. The words, "Tap screen..." do not show. However, a second or two later the tone sounds again, this time followed by the text, "Tap screen to begin...". From here everything in the ROM works fine. I just cannot figure that part out.
The LogoMsg.bmp is located in OEMDrivers, so I thought I might have accidentally removed something from the OEM folder. However, I have not found anything seemingly related. Also, I thought it might have been related to welcome.exe. Though, I've tried replacing it with an older version; still no luck. Unfortunately, I have tried so many things that I cannot remember exactly what all I have tried. I've re-ported XIP's (using Ervius' kitchen and by hand) and SYS's, as well as taking a fresh copy of my base OEM.
Essentially, I am asking if anyone has come across anything like this in your cooking, and if you have any tips. I would be more than happy to upload a copy of my ROM for you to test or upload my kitchen folders. I appreciate any help that anyone can provide.
EDIT: I'll try and upload a video later to show exactly what is happening.
Hi KMFM$
I use an official rom iolite ita for porting the xip e Sys to my kaiser. After cooking i have the same problem that you describe.
After 2 mounth there is some solution... i'm crazy for this problem
Bye
Daniele
i have the same issue when flashing any of the wm 6.5 ROM's. not sure what kitchen the chefs use but it doesnt seem to effect anything.
Well, I have yet to find a "solution" to this. However, I have just simply learn to deal with it. It does not effect the ROM in any noticeable way, and from what I've heard from other chef's, this is common in all new ROMs. Not sure what is going on in the ROM during that time frame, but again, it does not effect the standard operation of the ROM.
well dont sweat it then. yeah, i think its normal for 6.5
yep been a normal thing for all my 6.5's
hi KMFM$
the ROM is 6.1 or 6.5?
When it comes to porting it depends on build ver. ect ect. Its a big try and fail operation for moust of us when thing doesnt work as planned. But to get a true port you have to use m'relloc and manual change values in the modules, there is alot of guides on how to.
On dump of nbh in kitchen it unpacks diffrently (provider to provider or if its a "pure" HTC nbh), anyway the cue is that some of the chef`s use xip files in the ROM folder while other make mxipkernel + mxipkernelLTK in SYS and oemxipkernel in OEM then os.nb+ a folder named XIP in ROM and THAT contains boot.rgu I use the last method which for some reason works best for me.

Both, actually. WM6.1 builds from about CE OS 5.2.20757+, I believe, have all given the "extra" notifier. Again, I'm over it. I've just accepted the extra tone and moved on. No big deal.

[Q] Changing the boot sound on a Nexus 7 running base Android

Hey everyone!
Long story short, I have a Nexus 7 that is running base AOSP, version 4.2. I've managed to change the boot animation with relatively little trouble (took way too long to realize I needed a damn newline at the end of the file), but I'm a bit stuck on changing the boot sound. Or, more specifically, adding a boot sound, as there was none before.
I've found all kinds of tutorials that said all kinds of things (put PowerOn.ogg in /system/media/audio/ui/ which makes the most sense to me; put PowerOn.wav in /system/etc/; other such things) and none of them worked. I suspect it may be because no market devices use this bare-bones version of Android, and there's some trick to enabling this functionality, but really, I don't know.
I'm not sure how many people out there have had experience with this, but any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks!
For the benefit of future generations, I have determined that the only way to enable this is to do so before the image is compiled by changing some default config files in the ROM. So if you have an image that doesn't support boot sounds, you're out of luck, unless you have the liberty to rebuild it yourself.
Granted, I still have yet to accomplish this goal, as the boot sound still won't play, but I think this has to do with the sound device being unavailable at boot time. I don't know if this is the case, but my experiments indicate that I can't play sounds with stagefright as early in the boot process as I thought.
Just figured I'd jot this down for anyone in the future who finds this thread and needs help.
