Hi Guys,
Fistly got to say what a 1st class service this forum is. I've owned XDA's in almost every version since the big old surfboard that was the original XDA and always found the information here to be first rate.
So.... keen to get the new TYTN II I grabbed a locked Orange version (I have an O2 contract) and for those who have the same unit, here are the steps I took to free the device and hope this helps others.
My first searches turned up warnings saying "under no circumstances should you change the firmware on an Orange HTC TYTN II" apparently it would render it unable to see any SIM, even an Orange one.
Having experienced the shocking Orange interface for around 2 minutes,I decided I would take my chances and use the HardSPL software to rid me of their interface. This worked fine, I then UPGRADED to the HTC base ROM.
I still had a SIM locked device so I spoke to orange who were happy to remove the lock for £20 as long as I was the original account holder for the handset (which I am not). They then advised me to "go to your local market and someone would be able to do it".... SHOCKING!! If they took all the £20's maybe they could afford more staff for their call centre!
So, based on the advise here, I used IMEI-CHECK's website and was free of the Orange shackles about 5 minutes later.
So, if you have a locked ORANGE device, don't beleive the rubbish on the inter-web about not flashing the firmware, don't bother with Orange inteface (it's reeeeaaallllyyyy bad) just pay IMEI-CHECK, flash the basic HTC ROM and enjoy.
Just a final note, I've had every car gadget for my XDA's and the best one ever is a £3 magnet my GF got me as a stocking filler this year. It has an almost invisible black metal strip that you stick on the back of your phone and the round magnet part attatches to your dashboard and holds you phone solid, no cradles, no cables, just works, perfect for TOMTOM. A similar one is here:

Cheers Guys.
The "DO NOT FLASH AN ORANGE DEVICE" only applies to the radio. You can flash the OS as much as you want.
Or you can unlock your device and flash both....

I cannot afford these outrageous prices! Plus, it's not readily available in the US. Anybody have a used or know where I can find a refurbished unit? I've been trying to do my research and am finding discrepancies all over the place: Pocket PC Phone Edition vs XDA II vs MDA II vs QTEK2020 vs Himalaya, etc. I'd even be interested in a used XDA I for a much lesser price.
check your PM...
I've got an XDA I for sale now that I bought a II. I picked up my XDA II on eBay in the US for $605, near-new. Luckily for me, nobody here seems to know what they are and few people bid on it.
If you're interested in my old one, let me know. The case has the usual paint peeling, but it's perfectly functional and the screen is 100% mint (always had a PPC Techs protector, included). It has always lived in an EB leather case, also included. Got a few spares like an extra headset and probably some other stuff, need to go through my stash.
ive also got an xda ii for sale second hand all works fine but blocked over here in the uk would ship to us if buyer pays shipping cost full boxed as new even got tomtom 3 navigator installed on it but you would need us maps and a gps unit n e body isnterested make me a reansonable offer remember the xda ii phone will not work in the uk i have tried and tried to get it unblocked but found out som ebody i brought if from sold it then reported it lost so they claimed for a new one and the one i had of them the network operator block so i was well ripped off so thats the reason ive putting it up for sale any body intrested in this pm me and make an offer
Dear Friends,
Just like you I am also a PDA freak. I have had these handheld marvels since several years and am deeply into them.
I have owned an O2 XDA mini for over 6 months now. I found a shocking defect in the covers provided by O2. The cover has a strong magnet which tends to move the direction of the screen when I put or remove the device from its cover.
My friend who is using the same mobile has had the same problem. But sadly his screen has become inverted permanently now. We have tried all troubleshootings and have written several mails seeking help and reporting the quality issue to O2 and also its manufacturer HTC. But there has been no response from either of the parties.
What I can suggest immediately for everyone is to STOP USING THE MAGNETIC COVERS FOR THE MOBILES to avoid the problems we have faced or you shall have to burden your pockets once again with at least one third the price of your phone (the cost of the screen and its labor charge as the service centre has refused to repair it under warranty). I shall update you about any replies I get.
Regards
Karan Aggarwal
I am Change my mini to ROM 128 &RAM 64,Flash with DOPOD 828 ROMWith 1.12.06CHT...my mini original ROM 1.11.06CHT..&serial1.02)so...
Now My mini Change to Dopod 828...So far So GOOD.
The register reports that the Orbit II is available from 02 now...
http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2008/01/31/o2_xda_orbit_2_available/
.... no sign on the 02 web site though.
Glad to see someone has already made a mention of the lack of drivers in the comments section!
(Beat me to it ;-) )
five-megapixel camera..........
I don't think so?
Perhaps both cams together
No, the Orbit 2 has just a 3MP CMOS cam with 1536x2048 px
Just phoned o2 to check - they are still saying the 4th Feb.
i just got told 29th feb
I'll be waiting...
Whenever I see a piece of hardware being delayed and put back time after time it makes me all the more wary of buying it immediately when it finally comes out. Clearly they're having some sort of problem (especially if it gets put back to the end of Feb), so I'm not sure as I want one of the first batches. I think I'll wait and see how everyone else gets on.
if someone is interested,
i'm selling my orbit2!
like new, screen protector already attached, some extras included.

Haha! I came into O2 today at about 11am and asked to see the orbit2. They said the last one they had in (they only had 2) was being sold at that very moment. That must have been you!
I have Alex's Rom on my htc. It fell off my hand and broke the lcd, tried to replace it myself could not so took it to the local shop in Houston. They charged me $100 and replaced it with a new one. It was working fine for 2wks then i started having touch screen sometimes works sometimes does not issue. Could not even do ALIGN. The shop said that the screen and the flex card is fine but motherboard is messed up since he replaced it with his new one and it works.
I have already spent money on it and wondering is there any way to fix the touch screen without replacing motherboard. After he put it back I do not have any touch screen capability at all. He said he cannot do anything about it.
Need your suggestions what would you do with the device since without touchscreen it is very hard even to make a phone call with Alex's Rom?
If anyone wants to buy the device I am willing to sell it.
Try asking your device specific question in the forum for your device, you might be able to get more specific answers. And of course the Marketplace is the place to go if you want to sell it
you can get a used tilt / tytn II for about 100$ that works perfectly dont bother taking it back to that shop again.
There is quite a lot of sites for this, and I was thinking of trading in my HTC Sensation on http://www.moneyforyourphone.com/home/
Do most of these sites not accept phones that have been softmodded for example S-OFF and custom rom added? Will I have to "un-jailbreak" my phone to trade it in on a site like this?
Thanks.

I don't know if that would be a problem - certainly Cash Converters seem to list phones which have been 'unlocked'.
It might be worth your while getting a quote from a couple of those sites and then listing your phone on the "to Sell" forum here - you might get more interest in an already unlocked phone here.
Do you think a HTC Sensation would sell quickly here?
I've compared a lot of sites and it's between £115 and £148 for bank transfer or cheque, surely selling it would fetch more.
I just don't know how a slightly scratch on the screen (hard to see a part from bright white screens) and how a missing volume button (just needs new case) would effect the value? I'd probs just wipe it and stick a fresh install or Virtuous Inquisition on it. Don't know if the phone is locked to provider see I'm on Talk Mobile but it seems "unbranded" a part from HTC logo.
If you got the phone from Carphonewarehouse then it should be fully unlocked as they only ever supply unbranded devices.
The slight scratch probably wouldn't be too much of a problem, but I would be tempted to fix the case if I were you.
With that fixed you could probably put it on for about £160 - without it maybe £130.
I assume that the prices you've got are for a good condition one - they won't accept it with a button missing.
Have a look on ebay - then remember the 10% (I think) selling fee and those prices should be about right. Even if you don't sell it here, it may be worth putting the feelers out to see how much interest there is - and it will depend on whether it's the XE or XL and whether you've got the box, accessories etc of course.
It's a standard HTC Sensation (not 4G), it's got box, charger, orig battery, Anker 1900mah battery, 16GB SD Card (class 1).
S-OFF & Virtous Inquisition ICS.
Anywhere I can post an enquiry on this forum to get opinions on how much it may be worth?
Have a look on the "Wanting to Sell" forum.
