How to forward CID to your PC? - General Topics

With all this technology, I was looking for a tool to make my laptop receive calls from my cell phone. Basically turning my laptop into a Bluetooth headset.
I want to see Caller ID pop-up, and then use my laptops built in mic / speakers.
There should be software for Vista out there that will allow a Bluetooth if not a USB connection to allow the laptop to act as the receiving device. I just cant find any software.
Does anyone know of anything?

your title should be a bit more specific in the title. someone might think your talking about cid of device(carrier-id). just a bit of info that will help u get a bit more attention.
if ur laptop has bluetooth i believe with a program and proper profile(handsfree) on the laptop you can do it.

How to forward Caller ID to laptop...like in cars
I figure there must be a program to use for Bluetooth Windows phones. I cant imagine what would be so difficult if cars can take Bluetooth phone connections, why cant laptops?
Then to take it a step further, we could use IP Phones to answer calls while at home. Cell phones would forward via Bluetooth to the PC's and then be answered via IP Phones.
I know there are already Bluetooth Cordless phones, But I dont see any options like IP phones which can serve as an extnesion to the PC / laptop cellular connection.

You can always pair your device up with your laptop and use your laptops speaker/mic to use the phone.
You can always use a VOIP Cordless Phone, plenty of them around.

Really? I also have the HTC Tilt. I was looking for a solution at home to replace my land line. I want to use the Tilt to pass calls to my PC, which will then pass calls to my VOIP phones. I didnt think there was a solution available as of yet.
What software are you using to use your PC as a mic/speaker phone for your cell?

Not all usb bluetooth dongles are equal

I bought a usb bluetooth dongle which used xtndconnect software, no joy at all with syncing my xda2, no serial profile that I could discern and basically all I could do was beam files back and forth. I saw on ebay a cheap usb dongle that supported voice gateway, there was no disc with it, just a link to download the widicom software from the sellers site, any way I installed it, I bonded my xda2 with the pc, the xda2 asked me did I wish to use my pc as a headset, I answered yes. I then went to bluetooth setup on xda2 and told it to use bluetooth activesync, it gave an error, saying "bond with serial profile" or something, I thought it was another brick wall dead end, then up popped a message, "activesync setup complete". I then opened activesync on the desktop and it works great. Also if I use my phone while in range of the pc it diverts the audio to my pc speakers and I can use my pc mic to answer. The dongle cost less than £20 in uk. I have to initiate sync by bluetooth on xda2.
The only thing I cant do is browse the web through the bluetooth even when synched, it insists on dialling a number. Can anybody give me the settings, pass thru works with usb connection.
I now have full internet access over bluetooth. I can even access it from downstairs while my pc is upstairs, solid connection, no dropping of signal and very fast compared to dialup over gsm.
Bluetooth
Cruisin-thru....
I have just purchased a class 1 dongle with 100m range, and use the software you mention through my laptop on windows XP Pro.
How did you set up the xda to web browse using bluetooth and your PC broadband connection ?
Regards
IT
I set up all the services I required, then on desktop of your pc click My bluetooth places, choose "my network access". After double clicking on that, click properties, there is a drop down box above "configure network adaptor" choose "allow internet access". Now as long as you are synced you can access the internet. When setting up activesync on xda2, make sure you havent bonded with any other item, go to settings/system/bluetooth, choose "activesync over bluetooth" make sure bluetooth is in "discover" mode beforehand, from there it should search and find the serial port on the pc and should work when you click activesync from programs, then at the bottom left options screen choose "sync by bluetooth". Hope this helps. I could not get any of this to work using another dongle that was using xtndconnect. By the way, the xda2 is very limited in its range for bluetooth regardless of the dongle on your pc.
cruisin-thru, many thanks for your help with Bluetooth Synch issues in these forums. Couldn't have done it without you!
I've just received my VOIP bluetooth dongle (Same as yours? PenBlue?) and got it working with ActiveSync and browsing the Interweb with the XDA2 over bluetooth. Awesome!
Can't work out how to get the network working, though. Scanning other topics here, there seems to be no way without installing the 'new' (Widcomm?) bluetooth stack on the XDA2, and enabling Internet Connection Sharing on the PC. I'd rather not clutter up the XDA2 with another BT stack, and I'm certainly not enabling ICS and buggering up my LAN settings here, just to get the network.
Can you suggest anything? You've been fairly quiet on this subject - wondered whether this PenBlue dongle makes it possible without all this dual-BT-stack skullduggery.
TIA

Mini PBX Server for Windows Mobile?

Maybe I didn't see another thread if it does exist, but I'm sure I'm not the only one who's thought of this.
Is there any piece of software that will basically turn my Windows Mobile phone into a pbx/sip server, or else allow one to use my cell phone as the external phone connection? I think it'd be saweet to come home, connect up my phone to my wireless network, and then have sip phones around my house that connect to my PBX server that uses my cell phone for incoming/outgoing calls while its sitting nicely tucked away charging. That way, I could have multiple phones around the house that I can use to answer incoming calls to my cell phone, and to make calls out through my cell phone.
Anyone have any ideas or seen anything? Any reasons why this wouldn't work? I'm a developer(java/vb), so if there arn't many reasons why it can't be done, maybe I'll take it on and see what I can come up with.
I've seen the GE Cell Fusion stuff which is something like what I'm thinking, but I'd rather have some sort of PBX/SIP server that I can customize and configure.
There are mobile PBX systems. Maybe this is synonymous with mini PBX systems.

[Q] Bluetooth tethering & USB Keyboard support

I know that the CM 6.1 supports the USB Keyboard/mouse, but what are the odds of getting the Bluetooth DUN tethering support ported over from the Archos 101 and 70 devices? Would love to hear some insight from the devs about the feasibility of having such a feature. I would love to leave my EVO tethered to the GTab over Bluetooth instead of Wifi. It would be a huge battery saver when I'm away from home/office wifi connection.
Also, USB Keyboard/mouse as a part of TnT? Possible? Worth it? Not worth it?
I second the above. BT stays on 24/7 on my phone, it would be much easier, and ideally we could eventually come up with some sort of on-demand script or app that keeps the BT DUN profile active, without battery drain on the cell.
With this in place, the gTab could connect and disconnect to the cell phone as needed, just like DUN should be. Best case scenario is to not even have to do anything on the phone, just enable BT on the gTab (or leave enabled as desired) and do some activity that accesses the internet. This would trigger a BT DUN connection to the phone, which disconnects after a certain period of inactivity (or manually, as desired).
If I knew a damn thing about how to program, this is what I would be trying to create.
That said, I'm a willing guinea pig.
Really? No one else is interested in this?
I know one of you guys out there has a rooted phone with wireless tether. I'm just starting down the root road. I have a Dinc, but it's been factory since I got it... and will be until the weekend, the gTab has whetted my whistle for root freedom.
What happens when you try to pair your gTab with your phone while it's got BT Tether activated? Any BT DUN profile goodness?

Bluetooth Tethering a High Wish List Item
For me, getting the tablet to tether via bluetooth to my Blackberry Tour would be a high priority wish list item. I am completely in the dark with this stuff but I can tether my PC to my Blackberry so I should in theory be able to tether and use the network connection. I realize that most folks here probably have an Android-base smartphone, but my company makes me carry around their smartphone (and has the decency to pay for unlimited data plan). If I could get the tablet to work from the BB's network connection I would be almost complete on my wish list. I have gotten to the point of paring the two devices (but can't seem to get them to connect). I am using tnt lite 2.02 and my 9630 device has v 4.7.1.40 with 3G, CDMA connections.
Indeed, the hope would be that the BT stack within the gTab can take advantage of BT Dial up networking or Personal area networking profiles. Then we would be good to go. If not now, hopefully we can find a way to get that to work.
Really? No one care about Bluetooth Tether on this device?
You don't have to ask me twice Oops, you did.
I am extremely interested in a Bluetooth tethering solution for the gtab. It's the only way I will be able to get a 3G connection from my phone that won't be policed at work (non-corporate wifi hotspots are monitored).
I have a Nexus One Adnroid phone (running Froyo 2.2.1). I use the Wifi hotspot feature when I want hop online with my G-Tab (my work monitors wifi, as well but I only turn it on as I need it.) I can't speak for BlackBerry phones but any "rooted" Android phone should be able to act as a 3G/4G hotspot.
Wifi tethering should be faster, but USB tethering and keyboard & mouse support are needed and should work in the first place. (keyboard and mouse support at least should).
Need a program like http://android.gval.biz/ or ibluever for iphone/itouch then the g tablet would be my laptop replacement for traveling .

Are you looking for DUN over BT? If so, have you tried this:

Jim
I believe PDAnet requires client windows/mac software, and they haven't written client Android software.
I haven't seen anyone port the Archos home-grown BT tether to any other brand. BT tether isn't part of Android (I'm betting the cellcos in OHA demanded it not be built).
My wife has Joikuspot on her phone, so she wifi tethers on the G-tab.
I have unlimited bluetooth data, so I bought an Archos.

You are right PDANet wont work as no client for Android, but from my experience listed above blackberry refusing connections.... or may be GTab just doesn't opening connection properly.
When I check GTable BT device property from Blackberry side it can do only:
Handsfree Audio Gateway
Headset Audio Gateway
Object Push
AV Remote Control Target
.... there is no DUN in the list, so I suspect it just not supported by BT stack on device.... but also I have in same my laptop listed as well which doesnt have DUN in its services

[Q] how to get Android phone (or any other phone) working with windows dialer?

I currently get a really cheap contract call deal on my mobile phone calls and would like to use it for making business calls. I currently use SAGE ACT for my customer database, and with my current setup I am able to dial customers on mouse click. SAGE ACT interfaces with the windows dialer software that dials out though a modem connected to my landline and enables me to talk with a headset on the PC. My question is does anyone know how to setup an android phone with windows dialer so I can automatically dial customers from a database and use a headset? I really don’t want to have to manually dial calls from the database on the phone and physically hold the phone? If it is not possible to get this working with an Android phone, does anyone know of any other phones that may enable me to do this?

Hey there, back then i use to pair a blackberry pearl 8100 with my laptop and used it as a bluetooth modem, from there i set up Act to dial through the blackberry modem, i then paired my bluetooth headset with the phone and i was able to make calls directly from Act, i was also hoping i could do this with my hd2 and android installed but so far i haven't found a solution, i tried pdanet which is an app for android that can be used as a bluetooth modem but so far i still cant dial out in act or windows dialer, i think theres some missing drivers but so far i still havent found any drivers that will enable this to work, im hoping someone out there has a solution.

[QUESTION] Bluetooth Internet Access Help

I am using ARHD ROM (with Bricked Kernel).
My car can access and read out RSS threads and has a lot of interactive media functions, including being able access the internet via my bluetooth enabled phone. But I can't seem to get it to work fully, and really don't know if it is a ROM / Kernel / Phone issue or a car issue. I just don't know enough about the various bluetooth protocols etc, and as much as I research it, I keep going around in circes.
The car will connect to the phone and work fine as a bluetooth headset for telephone calls. It will also display the caller picture without issue and will access and read out my emails (using stock sense Mail client) and SMS messages. It also seems to connect to audio OK (although I never use it as it has a USB port that will accept a pop drive, so all my music is on the dashboard).
But the internet connection doesn't seem to work. I have looked into this and can't work out if it is a PAN or DUN profile issue. Soemtimes I can get the phone to show an internet connection being available to the car, sometimes it doesn't depending on which ROM I use and I can't seem to get any to work regardless.
Looking on the website, it claims the following:
How can I configure my mobile device for internet or BMW TeleServices usage?
In the operating manual of your mobile device you will find instructions on configuring “Access Point Name (APN)”; other names for this may be “Internet Settings”, “Modem Settings” or “Tethering Settings”. The required settings are available from your service provider. Please note that most Sony Ericsson mobile devices only recognise the first entry in the APN list, so it is recommended that all other APN configurations be deleted.
Can somebody please help me with this. I really am baffled as to how to get this to work.

Bump. Anybody?

It has been a year or 2 since I got bluetooth networking going. Today I tried to get my phone to connect to my windows 7 desktop and.... it couldn't even connect sadly enough. Anyways this is from memory so it may or may not be correct. I don't like posting incorrect stuff because you never know who will read/flame.
1. pair your phone to the other device
2. connect via bluetooth your phone to the other device
3. I used the app in the link below to turn on bluetooth tether. Your kernel needs to support this feature. Just a note, there are 2 apps off the link. One is wifi only, the other does bluetooth and wifi. Assuming you get this app, turn on bluetooth tether. I don't know if you should turn tether on then connect bluetooth. Maybe it doesn't matter.
4. This step I don't quite understand. The bluetooth tether should "offer" a network service to the remote device. The remote device in turn must recognize the service and use it. DHCP is the easiest to auto configure everything. If you need a name server, use 8.8.8.8 since that is a public dns server by our google overlords.
