Hello everyone,
i've been testing some roms and i was wondering if it was possible to change the way phone numbers are displayed when i receive a call or sms.
The format is like : (xxx) xxx xxx (which i suppose is the US format)
and i want it like that : xx xx xx xx xx (french format)
thanks a lot
Eh... You just have to set the regional settings to be french...
Not a huge issue but this should definitely be adjusted by MS at some point so that you can display the format as you enter it. The reason this bugs me is because my contact list is pretty international so US region settings mess up the numbers in many cases. My workaround is to set all my regional setting under English (United States) then navigate back to the first tab and swith to English (Australia). This allows me to keep US formatting on everything while changing the phone number format to a generic string
Not sure why MS hasn't allowed custom number formats yet.
btw: does this really belong in upgrading

Hi,
I have a vague memory of a setting for my Magician (win mobile 2003) where one configures the phone number format to not use parantheses in random places (as if they were north american area codes). I would like to place dashes and parantheses where I like!
Any tips... ?
look if the regional settings is set correct
thanks, that helped it, I had it set to a tweaked US setting.
Does anyone know, btw, where the regional settings are located in the registry... ?
Regional settings are taken from a file called wince.nls, not from the registry.
You can however put overrides in the registry to replace some of the nls settings.
Search this forum for nls override, there was a big post on all available strings to put there.
The key to look at is:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\nls
Hello.
First I want to say thank you to everybody, because I learned so much with this forum, and specially to all "ROM cookers".
Because I don't know very much about ROM cooking I want to ask if it is possible to change the network name that appears on the HTC Universal, because it is an old name, it shows as "UMTS Xfera" and the comercial name for that network is "Yoigo". I don't know if it so much work or if I can do it myself, but I don't know which file I should change.
And one more thing, I have been looking to create a .CAB file with my operator settings without luck because I only get some of the settings (I used a .CAB file for an other operator changing the settings) but no the full configuration, is there a "how to" to create the file?
Thank you in advance.
Regards.
yes, i just cant remember, google it.
Thank you Midget_1990, after a while I found how to modify it, you have to add an entry to the registry with the operator and network code (CCCOO) and the name you want to be shown on HKLM/Software/Microsoft/RIL/OperatorNames.
I have posted it here for anyone who needs it.
I will continue looking for a CAB file with GPRS & MMS settings for my operator.
Regards.
Ok so How you do it ?
Here you have the instructions (from Modaco Wiki):
-----------------------------
Customize operator's name
To show specified operator name set
HKLM\SOFTWARE\OEM\PhoneSetting\ONSDisplayRule=0 (DWORD decimal)
And then at
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\RIL\Operator Names
add the code and the name to display. The value is 5 digits "CCCOO", where CCC is 3-digits country code, and OO is 2-digits operator's code. For example:
"25099"="BEE LINE"
For country and network code, go to wikipidea for [mobile country code|http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Listofmobilecountrycodes] and [network code|http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MobileNetworkCode]
To show operator name based on the SIM card used (eg for cases where dual SIM adapter are used), set
HKLM\SOFTWARE\OEM\PhoneSetting\ONSDisplayRule=1 (DWORD decimal)
For my dual-SIM adaptor, when I switch between SIMs, the phone with default settings showed always one and the same name, until I reboot the device. Then, it was not able to retrieve operator's name from one of the SIM cards I use. Probably it is an adaptor fault. But anyway, after I changed ONSDisplayRule to 0 and set more up-to-date names for operators that I use, I now always see the name of the operator of the chosen SIM.

I live in a country where it is obligatory to dial long distance company prefix for calling other areas and countries, thus I can´t have all numbers stored in an international standard notation. Like I can´t store a UK number like +44 1273-701648, I have to store it like 00XX441273701648 (where XX is a two digit long distance company code, like 23 or 41 ). Same with in-country numbers - I can´t store them neither in international nor in regular local form, for example - I live in area code 011, so to store a phone number in area code (081) 3421-3266, I have to store it as 0XX8134213266 (where XX is a two digit long distance company code, like 23 or 41 ). At the same time, I have to store numbers in my own area without any prefix at all. So far so good, as long as I don´t leave my area or country.
If I will go to another area, like (081) - I will have to cut off all 0XX81 prefixes since I will be in roaming locally there. At the same time I will have to add 0XX11 to all numbers from my native area code. Worse - if I will go to an area from which I have no numbers stored let´s say 019, I will have to keep ALL locally stored codes, like 0XX81... BUT also add 0XX11 to all phones from my native 011 zone.
When roaming abroad it is somwhat easier - I´ll have to cut off 0XX and add country code +55 to ALL numbers. But also I´ll have add area code 11 to all phone numbers from my native 011 zone.
When I was using WM6.5, Magicall by Mobiion was able to do it for me. Is there anything similar under Android?
Did you check android settings?
There is an option for automatic prefixes, atleast on my i9000.
It might be possible to make a widget that gives quick access to enable/disable the prefixes.

Nothing like this on my X10 mini pro. At least visibly, but I´ll try to look into it. Thank you!
Thank you everyone for feedback. I was advised to try out Prefixer and it is exactly what I needed.
I have a ROM that I am in the process of porting from Korea to a US model. All hardware works properly. One of the small bugs I still have is the phone number format. It appears to remain in the international format not in the US. I have corrected the region info in the build.prop & rummaged through most of the framework-res.apk and can not find how to get this resolved. More Locale 2 & several other locale apps on the market do not correct this either.
So for the US one would expect:
123-456-7890
123=area code
456=prefix
7890=user assigned #
Instead it shows
12-3456-7890
Phone dials the proper contact and for all purposes functions as it should. But if I post a ROM with this nuisance the complaints will be endless.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance for all constructive & suggested advice.
Hi,
So I've recently got to enjoy the fruits of CM's latest stable release for my S4. However, there is one issue with the dialer that is really getting on my nerves. I humlbly accept any help in resolving this issue.
App Version: com.android.dialer 4.4.4-b2ebc9246e
When I enter phone numbers manually. The numbers are displayed with a grouping that isn't usually used in Sweden. I have tried changing the phones locale to everything imaginable, without any luck. Se below for an example:
Current grouping: "012 345 67 89"
Preffered grouping: "0123 456 789". OR "0123 45 67 89".
Even an option to disable the automatic insertions of spaces would be beneficial. e.g. "0123456789"
With stock, the number grouping would be correct if I used English UK. However, this new dialer doesn't seem to honor locale settings.
Last but not least: A humble answer to the sure to come question "why does it matter?".
I'm used to see numbers grouped in a certain way. Americans may be used to the "current" way of doing it. But alot of people aren't. And I'm really hoping that we can come to an understanding that options are ALWAYS good.
Thank you in advance!
Update:
So I've just determined that it's related to the automatic area code detector. e.g the number "0476- 22 22 22" shows correctly according to my wishes,. However, standard celnumbers are displayed as "070-322 22 22". With this in mind, I would very much like to disable this "feature"
