can't delete cabs.... HELP PLEASE! - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III Windows Mobile ROM De

when i use the file explorer and go to my windows folder, i cannot delete the cabs for games that i have. i'm guessing there is a way around this, i just don't know it. and do i need these cabs for the games to work? i think it's just the installer for the game, right? it's taking up unnecessary space on my phone. any help is much appreciated.

Anything in the windows folder, the OS considers a system file. To delete it you need a 3rd party file explorer like Resco.

my hero! lol thanks

after BigStorage, any other way to "cleanup" windo

hi, just wondering.. i flashed my xda2mini with bigstorage rom already. everything was ok. thx alot to dr chair and talent, ur method is wonderful!
but then, i still not satisfy when look into window folder.. so much rubbish (i think) stay there and consume lots of memory. can i have suggestions what i can (safely) delete from there??
thx all..
Use Resco file explorer and make sure to check hide rom file (since U can' remove those anyway)
1. Any html files under Windows and Windows\help (how often do U read the help? lol)
2. Templates under My Documents
3. Use Memmaid to move DLL to storage or SD Card.
U should be able to get 35-42 mb of ram (and still having lots of program installed) by the above methods
thx!
any more we can do?
how about tweaks to delete those html in the rom?
and i dont like pocket msn.. (inthe program menu) can we delete it?
and it is possible to uninstall those 2 default games?? i have lots more interesting (and similar) games...
i use resco explorer 2003 v5.1 and browse the windows folder. When I selected files to change the attribute, I could uncheck the READONLY, uncheck the SYSTEM, but I could NOT uncheck the ROM attribute.
So, the files still can NOT being deleted. Someone could help me or gave me any suggestions ??
Thanks a lot

How to kill WM6 system programs

For personal reasons, I want to kill solitaire in my WM6 phone. Not just the shortcut, I want it removed from the Windows directory! Not to save money but to keep me from playing it !
It is a protected system file on board the phone - how do I permantly kill it?
I will just play one game of solitaire, then check if there is an answer - doh!!!
make a rom from scratch which dont include the exe files
I want to avoid making a ROM like that, but I guess that is the only way? I did not know this file was part of the ROM - Read Only Memory - so I have to live with it then ... any other way to kill it without damaging the unit?
try this.
install resco explorer.
look in the /windows folder and find out the name of the solitare executable. (most likely solitare.exe)
make a empty text file on your comp. , rename it to the the file you want to del. (from newfile.txt to solitare.exe---->the icon should change to that of an executable file)
copy this file onto your sd card and with resco explorer copy this file into the windows directory...it should ask you permission to overwrite.
reboot
Using Total Commander, go to folder \windows\start menu\programs\games\ and remove (delete) the lnk file related to Solitaire. It will not delete the executable but will make it invisible. Out of sight is out of mind!
The real answer
You need to get hold of self_control_v1.exe but I can't remember where I got it from. It's the same program that stops me eating too much.
LOL

Great minds think alike.
This won't delete the file, but it will mask it with another file. (The file is still in the ROM.)

it should actually delete the file (you are over writing it with another file of the same name)
Cool, it worked!
Or, at least I am not smart enough to find and run Solitare.exe any more ...
Mission complete!
Trial version of Resco did it, but it will run out in 7 days. Wonder if it is worth to keep it, now that I HAVE killed Solitare.exe?

a question regarding removing programs. please help

after i delete certain apps i downloaded sometimes they leave behind a file that cant be deleted no matter what i do. for example i downloaded PointUI home but didnt like it so i deleted it using add/remove programs in system settings. everything was deleted except for a small file called 2001. it wont delete and ive tried everything. until i find a way to do so it still shows up in add/remove programs. i have 4 such apps that wont go away because of that same problem. i have an htc snap on sprint running windows mobile 6.1 if that helps any. im stumped! any help would be greatly appreciated
try SKTools....
i have sktoolslite but im unsure if itll let me delete them. i had issues deleting those programs and sktoolslite deleted most of those files except for that one file. i look in the windows folder under app manager and the folders for said apps are still there with that one stubborn file in each folder. again. any help would be appreciated
I don't know what those files are, but if you test cabs frequently, then sk tools is a good way to install them (use the cab manager, select install w/ sk tools). It does a better job of removing programs (go to installed programs, do a deep scan and uninstall).
For now, you may fix the problem by using the installed programs tool and removing uninstall info (if the apps appear there). To get rid of the files in \windows, try checking for replaced rom files and restoring to original. You may need to add the proper extensions in settings.
it keeps saying that the file is a system file and if deleted the phone wont work properly. when i try to delete anyway it tells me i cant . access is denied. be certain that the program is not write protected and not currently in use. before that it would say problem deleting file
bump. anyone else experience something similar? if so then how did you deal with it?

[Q] How to browse an .apk on your desktop?

Hello everyone. Although n00bs aren't allowed here, I do want to ask you a question that might be very n00bish. And maybe a little inappropriate. Or asked in the wrong section of this forum.
But here it goes: I want to try and edit a savegame for a game on my HTC Hero (baseball superstar 2010). So, first I tried to locate where all the files for this game could be installed on my phone. I did not succeed.
But with help from this forum, I found out that I might find the files by using Astro File Manager. I can use this app to click on the .apk from the game, that I have on my sdcard, and then choose the option 'browse file'. There, I find a lot of files! So, the first problem is solved.
The second problem is, that I cannot edit any of the files I then find. And I cannot find a file that has the datestamp of today, or yesterday, when I last played the game. Shouldn't there be a very recent file with the saved game data in it somewhere?
For me, it would be a lot easier if I could browse the apk on my desktop with a simple explorer. But if I hook up my sd-card to my pc, I cannot open the .apk. How can I accomplish this?
I hope I gave a decent description of my problems, and hopefully anyone can help me with A) finding out which file to edit B) how to open or edit this file and C) what to edit!
Thank you all in advance for your time and patience.
Use 7zip to open/extract the .apk file. You can use winrar too, but I like 7zip better. I'll try to find a link in a minute, or you can always google it if I don't post back quick enough for you.
Your questions are reeallly noobish ;-P
Apk files store libraries and other static files of your applications - there you could find images, texts, code, etc., but not runtime data like savegames. Look into /data/{package-name}/ - you could find package name in many places, I think it's in Settings -> Manage applications, but I'm not sure.
Very noobish yes
I have done something in the meanwhile, and that is: buy the real deal from the market. I no longer seem to have the .apk, but that should be no problem. Now the real game is officially installed onto my phone.
But ... where? I have tried looking in /data with my file managers, but they say that the folder is empty! So... where are my apps installed then? They must be on my phone somewhere. Do I have to root my phone in order to see anything in the /data/folder?

I'm not sure, but I think so. This directory is read-protected, so apps can't steal data of other apps. And I've mistaken: it's /data/app/{package-name}.
Hmmm. Do you know a good way to do that? I have a HTC Hero with the 2.1-update1 firmware (so my phone tells me!).

I think I'm correct in saying yes. I use RootExplorer and can see my apks in data/app, but if I use AndExplorer I can't.

Hi There,
I've opened another thread to stop the clutter, but: I have installed Root Explorer and used (I thought) Universal Androot to root my mobile phone. It did install Superuser, but when I open Root Explorer, I don't get a prompt to put it on the superuser list... so nothing seems to work. Do you know what I should do, and how I can do that?

You might be best searching your phones forum for a solution unless someone can offer you help here.
Iirc, savedata and settings would be in /data/data/com.gamevil.bs2010/
probably in a folder named "files".
start by looking in there.
other apps would be in /data/data/[packagename]

you are able to have a look in every folder. so you might be interested which files are stored within your apps, or you want to change some config files, or load dlls for further analysis on your pc ;-)
Is TouchExplorer a goos solutions ?
