I would be very happy this xmas if I can find an application like I describe below.
My request is simple, so simple I cannot find it anywhere! I've searched and searched and wasted hours online trying to find it to no avail.
I would like to find a file explorer application with an interface like the Search Today plugin that will search locally in the main memory and sd card but not only web pages; an application like the type-to-search function found in Initiate for Palm devices.
It can be either a plugin or a button-assignable application (even better!).
I want to be able to start typing a word in the Today screen (or anywhere else by pressing a button) and the application will look through EVERYTHING in the phone and show all the instances of that word/phase narrowing it down as I type, and once I find what I am after and click on it, if it is an application it will open it, if it is a file it will open an application by file association, if it is a phone number it will open the phone application, if it is a video file it will play it, and so on.
I'm not after skins or pretty intefaces that flip and turn or anything of the sort, I don't need any of that because I want to use my phone efficiently, because for me it is a tool not a show-off thingy to beat the iPhone. I want an efficient, plain and simple "search and you shall find" kind of application, with a small footprint, preferably.
Cubes are very nice to look at and some people spent heaps of time honing their skills in developing it but at times they bore me, sorry.
Is there anything available that will do what I need? Please?
I'm searching for the same thing! I know one but its exclusive to sierra voq smartphone: it's called myvoq
I sort of knew that it was not going to be easy to find but I am still hopeful that the great brains out there would have come up with something.

I have a wm2k3 rom from the Sierra VOQ which has the myVOQ in it... But I can't dump it... I get some "can't load compressor dll" when dumping it...

Thank you but I think even if you managed to dump your ROM or copy the dll it probably would not have worked because I think the phone is a smartphone, i.e., no touch screen, am I right? I believe software made for smartphones cannot be made to work on touchscreen-phones.
But thanks for trying.

w
I discovered the correct terminology for what I am after: "Predictive on-device Search" - see article here. But still no concrete results.

I'm looking to get more out of my GPS usage....
Is anyone doing anything interesting other than road navigation ? I'd like to load in things like way points for walks and cycle rides - either ones from the net or just ones I plot in advance.
But I'm even worse at GPS than I am a cycling - so wondered if anyone has tips ?
Thanks,
JJ
You can use ather off-road programs, like OZI CE and COMPE Pocket Land.
They're ideal for biking
Go flying!!
I took mine up in the plane yesterday while flying around my local airport. Dumped the GPS data and made a 3d track file for Google Earth that is color coded with speed too. The result is pretty cool! Download the free version and import the file attached to see the kind of things you could do with any other activity - not just flying!!
Hi, how do you manage with this file ?
What do we do with it after dl ?

download the free version of Google Earth http://earth.google.com/download-earth.html (if you have not used this it is *very* cool!)
You can then open the KML file above and you will see the 3d track of the flight. You may not be exactly interested in flying but there are many applications for the same idea.

This is really cool!! could you tell me, how to prepare klm file by myself? what kind of software do i need on my Wizard? (of course i have gps receiver) - this is really nice, i'd like to be able to generate this kind of tracks of my trips...
Ok, i took a good look at google earth application and i've found a link to gpv visualizer (http://www.gpsvisualizer.com)
i believe that's what You used ;]. whats the greatest thing about it is the fact it supports gps track file of Automapa - polish road navigation software - very popular and quite good - now i'm able to visualize my own roadtrips... thanks for the idea.
Yes you got it right. The GPSVisualizer web site lets you convert lots of different GPS data formats to get a KML file. My GPS software on the TyTn is called GPS Tuner. It saves a TRK file with position, altitude, time etc in a text file. I opened it in M$ Excel and saved out a CSV file which the web site would read and convert to KML - there may be a much easier way but I got this to work so never looked deeper!!
It's fun to try this kind of thing!!
As i mentioned - i was lucky and i can put my Automapa's *.gps file directly to GPSVisualiser. I'm gonna play around with POI files as well, i think it will also work. anyway, its a good news for my fellow polish friends on this forum ;]
But i am still hungry for any other funny/impresive use of gps software, anyone has something even better in mind? sorry bodypilot, but since i don't own the plane myself, the coolest thing i can do is to record a track while ice-skating - which is kinda funny, but still ... ;]
have a look at this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=294682
Im trying to find out a way of geotaging the standard camera pictures of the pda
i think i have an idea that is a bit round about, but might work. i'll give it a thought tonight. anyway, useles for me, since wizard camera sucks, so i don't plan posting any picture taken with it ;]
Hi, though I don't have gps, I have been looking up what I could do with it, to see if it really is worth it...
I found the following link, that really seems to have a great potentiall!

Has anyone EVER managed to make n0p’s free (!) Tower Toppler ( http://toppler.sourceforge.net/ ) port (available at http://n0p.tonych.info/?Tower_Toppler ) work on his / her WM device?
It wouldn't work on mine - it just displays "null" instead of the name of the map. Tested on several of my devices, with both the older XScale only and the new ARM (02.12.2006) build.
Alternatively, does anyone know n0p's accessibility? I'd need this info on my forthcoming article on all Nebulus clones for Windows Mobile.
Hmm, I wanted to check it out but when I tried downloading from http://n0p.tonych.info/?Tower_Toppler I got a "leach alert" page saying something about no referrals and turning off download accelerators.
Found this odd since I have no download managers installed.
Tried it with Firefox 2.0.0.3 and Explorer 6.0 and nothing...

Directly (left) click the links, do NOT do a right-click + Save link as.
No luck. Tried it directly with both browsers.
Even ran Spybot just in case.
Played with the desktop version for a bit - nice little game.
Interesting thing is I did not see an email address anywhere on the developers site (and I even checked the Russian version - yes I read Russian).
Oh well, it was just curiosity any way. I have about 20 games on my Jamin as it is and in order to get some respect I need to at least pretend to use it for work stuff
Good luck with your article.

Strange it didn't work. I can put it on my database back-end so that the entire world can access it there without problems tomorrow morning; I'll give you the URL as soon as it's up.
In the meantime, I was able to make the game work (see http://forum.xda-developers.com:80/showthread.php?t=304230 if interested). Guys, you MUST give this game a try - it REALLY rocks! n0p has again presented us something REALLY cool, thanks!
ANYWAY, if anyone does know n0p's accessibility, let me know. I, as the Windows Mobile Best Software Awards 2007 Nomination Manager, want to nominate some of his stuff for this year's awards and, for this, I also need to contact him.
See http://www.winmobiletech.com/sekalaiset/TopplerARM.7z for the mirrored file
Thanks a lot for mirroring the file. (You relay shouldn't have bothered)
Keep the excellent articles coming.

blah - I am having some problems setting it up. I am trying to install this great program on my new HTC Fuze (same as the htc touch pro).
My blog is http://www.politicaldisgust.com and when I try to add a new blog I get a bunch of errors including:
1) Could not synchronize blog: System error: No such host is known
Maybe I have the RPC URL incorrect. What should go in that line?
Any help would be greatly appreciated as I would love this to work with my blog.
‘RPC URL’ is your blog’s URL plus a ‘/xmlrpc.php’
so it would be http://www.politicaldisgust.com/xmlrpc.php most likely. Homeurl would be just the base url like http://www.politicaldisgust.com
I have used it with my wizard and windows mobile 6.1 It worked fine for me but maybe there is something keeping it from working on a newer phone. Hopefully it will be something easy to figure out and you can get it going.
I already STFA and did not find what I was looking for. I was wondering if there is an application that will allow viewing of existing Google Sketchup files, editing/creating files - no - not so much, think that would be best done on a full blown desktop, One earlier post was asking about running a fully functional Sketchup, and I tend to agree that it would be too much of a tax on the processor and memory to be feasible for a mobile device. I also found the SketchBook program from AutoDesk which is designed for mobile devices but from what it says it is more like Paint in Microsoft Os's not a CAD type program.
Anybody know if there is anything like that available out there to be able to view Google Sketchup files? Thanks in advance for any information on the subject.
Sorry to wake up an old topic (very old) but I too am looking for such an app.....being a kitchen builder in my spare time I was asked a few times if I had any models on hand to show. And since I do all my sketches in Sketchup, well you guessed it....I can't show them on my tab....
Would be kinda cool to show potential customers how their kitchen might look like if I could just drop existing cabinets in place etc...
If you've already found something would you mind sharing with me? Very much appreciated...
Hello XDA,
I have some questions about the sidekick Development Keys. I actually used to have one of my own in 2008. Here is what I am looking for.
An actual copy of a dev-key file.
The HTCONSOLE command for uploading a dev-key file to the phone.
I am looking for these things because I am interested in reversing the Dev-Key algorithm. I am planning on using JTAG to dump the firmware and do an investigation. These things all lead up to restoring internet capabilities to the phone. As we know, the phone is a bit crippled because of hard-coded operations to use Danger's servers for networking. But, there is internet access, just need to find a way to circumvent Danger's servers. I thought that getting a dev-key so that I could upload my own programs would be a good first step. However, since I cannot get another from Danger, I figured reversing would be the next best step. However, without the dev-key file format and HTCONSOLE command syntax for uploading the key. I am in the dark.
Thanks in advance

Hi!
I had the same problem, is at least 3 years that I try to bring back into operation a old Sidekick2 found in the trash.
I was able to operator-unlock it with a key combination (here in Italy sidekick mobile phones have never been marketed and therefore are virtually unknown!).
Then I search SDK everywhere, for years, all in vain (all danger's site are dead, and archive.org is unuseful)
BUT Today (literally) I found this site: The Holy Grail (w w w .cs.umb.edu / ~bazz / learn /sidekick2/ )! I'm very excited! :victory:
Now I need my devkey but is obvious impossible to obtain it, so I was thinking to automate a brute force process (autoit? a small c++ program? who know..) to get it, but if you can obtain an algoritm via reverse engineering is better.
Another alternative would be try to contact former employees of Danger Inc, but I would not know how to do because english isn't my native language.
so please KEPP US UPDATED! :fingers-crossed:
