Proposal for new Neo Contacts/Caller ID and more. - Non-Touchscreen Windows Mobile Other

Here are some designs for Neo I would love to see implemented. This is being discussed at the Shadow/Juno forum on Modaco.com

A home screen alternative with the weather showing above time/date - which are also less cluttered than the current design. This home screen should be also shown as part of the MyFaves screen when the Faves are minimized.
My ideal incoming/dialing screen with the image filling the area as much as possible. However the current pictures stored with contacts are too small to make this truly desirable - however it would be really cool if this could be done and the pics stored could be stored in a larger resolution.
Alternate dialing/incoming screens that still follow the Neo layout but use graphics either at the max of the current resolution or are simply pixel doubled as Neo does in Notifications and Text messaging screens.
These could also be done as a separate Caller ID program that hooks into these calls in WM6 and simply reuse the same graphics that Neo is using for backgrounds (although the left side icons would probably be ignored since this display wouldn't be accessible from the Neo interface).
This image shows a Contact Manager done in the style of the Neo interface. It's not actually a plugin for Neo since it's reusing the left side area for contact pictures instead of plugin icons.
This would be the view contact mode of the above interface. The right soft key would bring up the same menu as in contact manager so you could edit/etc this contact from the standard interface. These two interfaces would be the only ones to develop. Of course it would be super slick to use the same types of animations Neo uses in this as well.

PocketPC GUI enhancement for one handed use?

After two months with my Magician, I have come to the simple conclusion that the PocketPC gui sucks in many ways. It's a great system overall, it's just that the GUI leaves a lot to desire.
Specifically, it is horrible for one handed use. I rarely use the stylus. To start a program, you're supposed to click the tiny Start menu in the top left corner, then click Programs. And yet I normally have plenty of room for program icons on the today page!
To close a program, they expect you to click an even smaller X or OK in the top right corner.
Many people would suggest mapping hardware buttons to do these things, but the Magician doesn't really have an abundance of those.
I've seen screenshots of alternative GUIs. For instance, the Asus what's-its-name has a redesigned GUI that works with the hatch.
What have you guys done to improve one handed usage? What are the options?

Works well right handed, and surprisingly, also left handed...

Main Items i use to increase my one-handed use are found on this forum, which are Gabor Salamon's Blinkeys (Text entry)Blimkeys. and Mamaich's Phone Extension which adds a contacts button to the dialer screen Quick Dial.
both excellent add ons which should be implemented in future GUI's!! Other than that i use SPB pocket plus to clutter up my screen with items to tap on. Although Im starting to get drawn to wisbar. Only time I use my stylus is to reset my Magician when its locked up!

seeing tasks on touchflow today screen?

hi...
in the old today screen of wm , i could see if i have any active tasks, which is very important to me, i even tought about scrubbing touchflow completly, but then i have a problem with the watch (in the today screen part of the hour is covered by the watch icon)..
so is there any way to customize touchflo's today the same way you customize wm today's (add or remove items from it )
I'm using AE Button Plus to have the active tasks at my fingertips
I would love this too. Whether it be a new tab with numeric indicator like SMS/email, or just putting it under the calendar entries.
I love TF3d but I need tasks.
thanks, but i allready assigned the button to tasks
i need to actually look if it's there.
as a replacement i'd like to see any icon for tasks in the taskbar.
AE Button Plus does that by adding icons to the menu bar.
oh, you mean in the buttom?
will it show me a number of tasks, or just an icon i can click on?

Click to collapse
I'm using AE Button Plus also. Menu bar being the bar at the bottom?
I used it to remove the stupid ATT screen, but I didn't see that you can add new ones ; (or can you?)
Something like this would be grand. I hate messy taskbar icons.
I don't know how TF3D is customized. Does it use XML/

[WIDGET][1.6-2.3.3] Simple and nice looking digital clock widget

Hello again.
I would like to recommend You yet another functionality that comes from alarm clock that I've developed. This time it is simple digital clock widget.

"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
The goal was to make neat widget that don't require unnecessary permissions , has small size (app and ram) and does what is says - displays time on digital clock .
In version 1.2:
When screen got unlocked there was widget time value update lag.
Time value on widget didn't update when user changed phone time.
Just installed it, looks good! Two things
1) Pressing the time should take you directly to the alarm, in my opinion at least
2) There is a small glitch with the graphics on my LG P500, check out the small black lines on the left and right sides at them bottom of the widget:
Thanks for notices. I will prepare new graphics.
I have added things that Jens Christensen mentioned (v1.3). Thanks .
Small fixes&improvements in 1.4:
Time value on widget didn't update when user changed phone time backward or changed time zone.
Refresh improvements for Android >2.1.x.
I don't like widgets in this style, but I can suggest you to make a transparent and a grey version, and post the all the changes on each version on second post, it's better to see.

Android L Screenshots with mini review

Just got the Android L preview and thought I'd share some screenshots
If you want a screenshot of a certain screen, just ask
I got the image on an emulator as i don't have a Nexus, shouldn't make a difference though
Ok so the boot animation is the same..this might be because it's a preview because i was expecting the new Android logo
Home screen icons are still the same, probably for the same reason
This is notification centre, opened by swiping down on the statusbar
I have no notifications though...

Buttons are less obvious and it's overall flatter
And the brightness slider (to demonstrate new seekbar)
You can see new system level switches in Bluetooth menu
Ok this is Settings screen, very nice IMHO
When you scroll too much (on all screens, not just settings)
This is "Phone"
i cant screenshot animations but assure you they are AWESOME. Laggy, but that's definitely the emulator
You can see the statusbar blend in
Recents
Emaultor isn't capable of rendering graphics well enough to show previews
The navigation bar has been made transparent
Clock
All new Calculator
People
While setting up accounts, we come across the new keyboard
And after adding a contact
We get gmail-like contact pictures
All new battery saver
Downloads page
I will add more later
Thanks for this review and screenshots! :good:
What's new in Security tab? KNOX feature inside?
Yes it's awesome. I'm using it to type this. The animations are great and system is running extremely smooth on my Nexus 5.
Can't wait for the full release.

Getting pixel-accurate coordinates of large graphics

I was doing a project with converting map PDFs to PNG.
The PNGs would be generated at different resolution of 256 x 256 tiles to use for a Leaflet map server.
Since the source material is basically a "paper" map you have to calibrate the transformation to real earth coordinates.
And for that you have to get the pixel coordinates of the crosses on the map where the lat/long or northing/easting (UTM) lines intersect.
This is also something you might be doing to troubleshoot graphic layouts (is that border really 4 pixels wide?)
You've probably just reached for the venerable MS Paint, which does the job, but is a bit of a pain.
So I whipped up a Windows utility which suits my current purposes fine.
Can show a single screen view of large images (8192 x 8192 or larger)
Can show a pannable zoomed view at scale 1:1
Can switch between the two views instantly
Navigates by mouse, but also allows cursor keys for pixel fine tuning
Copies coordinates to the Clipboard
Optionally marks (only on the screen) locations already logged
Doesn't risk making permanent marks on your image

I'm just wondering if anyone is interested in this and what they'd use it for or if anyone uses something else?
I haven't released this yet (it still needs polishing) or any of the PDF tiling stuff.
Any discussion on this subject at all is welcome.
