Ringtones in WM6: How to remove??? - General Topics

Hi Guys,
I have a HTC Touch running windows mobile 6
I see that a few ring tones that came with the phone are taking quite a bit of space. i mean there are 5-6 such tones taking almost 167kb per tone.
As my phone has less memory, i want to clear these off.
is it possible to remove ring tones from windows mobile 6 without effecting the performance or the phone
regards
Rajeev

if you cant delete them it's because they are in the rom
in which case even if they could be deleted they would not yield more storage for you

Custom ringtones take too long to ring...

I've been trying out the Photo Caller ID with custom ringtone programs, namely Inesoft Address Book and Photo Contacts Pro.
Both work fairly well as long as the custom ringtone I set is in the ROM (I'm using a HTC universal btw). But whenever I choose to run the custom ringtone off the SD Card, I've tested that it takes more than 10 SECONDS for the ringtone to start ringing, i.e. the person calling you will be waiting for 10secs before you even hear your phone ringing!!!
Photo Contacts Pro documentation say this is because of the slow "wake up" time for memory cards. Is there anyway to work around this? Cause a 10+ secs delay for the ringtone is unbearable!!!
How long is your ringtone?
I have mine (Wizard) loading ringtones on the SD card, and I notice only around 1 sec lag time.
Maybe, you want to cut down your ringtone length and try. I have all my ringtone music around 30 sec each.
I've noticed this too, and don't have any third party call applications, it's especially longer when the file is MP3 rather than MID or WMA... :-/

What programs do you use to manage your custom ringtone?
My ringtones are also 30sec, MP3, 96kbps, 32kHz.
I put all MP3 ringtone in "My Document" folder in the SD, and I assigned tones from Pocket Informant.
Well...no fancy caller picture, but fit what I need.
Download Tweaks2k2 you can get a free trial, sorted out my delay, there's actually an option to disable the 3second delay!!!

Help...t Wing/herald Ques???

I AM CURRENTLY USING T-MOBILE'S T-WING AND AM VERY SATISFIED/THANKFUL WITH ALL THE UPDATES THIS SITE HAS PROVIDED, (OVER CLOCKING, PAGE POOL SIZE, HTC HOME PAGE, vTAP VIDEOS, TCPMP etc..) HOWEVER I HAVE NOTICED THAT THERE WAS/IS A SMALL 'GLITCH' IN MY DEVICE EVEN BEFORE I HAD INSTALLED ANY OF THESE PROGRAMS.
-WHEN THE PHONES VOLUME SETTING IS ON 'LOUD' (VOLUME UP) I RECEIVE CALLS AND TEXT FINE BUT AFTER A WHILE THE VOLUME/SOUND GOES DEAD, THE CALLS/TEXT STILL COME IN BUT THERE IS NO SOUND, I HAVE TO GO BACK TO THE PHONE SETTINGS (SETTINGS/PHONE) RESET THE RINGTONE AND HIT THE 'PLAY' BUTTON AGAIN SO THAT IT ACTUALLY PLAYS SOUND...ANY IDEAS OR HELP ON HOW I CAN FIX THIS, ITS REALLY ANNOYING TO SEE ALL THE MISSED CALLS AND TEXT THAT I NEVER HEAR BECAUSE OF THIS...
umm first off try typing w/o the caps
and the only thing i can think of is, if you're using custom ring tones from your memory card, and you receive a call or sms when the card is out, it jacks everything up.
so if you've ever found that your memory card suddenly doesn't read or something that maybe the culprit, i've found that when the physical memory on the phone >1mb there are problems reading the storage card

Takes 4 Seconds for my phone to start ringing

I ran a test to see how long it takes for my phone to actually start ringing.
And it took at the least 4 seconds to start ringing, by this time the caller has heard the ring in his ear for about 5 rings.
Does anybody know how this can be fixed or to be made faster?
What ring setting have you got ? Vibrate and then ring ?

If i remember right the easiest solution is to convert your MP3 ringtone to a .wav file.
Its set to Vibrate and Ring

That is also in my case.
But... once I had a longer period. I checked the taskmanager and a lot of software was loaded. Maybe a program was too busy.
Then I tested again and loaded a bunch of programs and each time the phone was like above: 1e ring blinking and second ringing.
Of course it is possible that, while calling from the same number, the mp3/wav is already in memory, speeding up the process.
So, after a soft reset, it should take more time.
Did not have time to check that.

P.s.
My problem is: I keep loosing my ringtones now and then after synching with my PC's

Thanks, I will take a look at running apps and try and see what factors would cause delays like this.
I disabled the touch pro themed dial keypad using advanced configuration tool. The phone rang a bit more quickly using windows mobile default keypad.
Ok so I uninstalled CommPro and it seemed to be much quicker now. It get the ringtone after the second ring.
Thanx

[Q] Changing ringtone (or length it rings) when USB Mass Storage is enabled?

I have a Samsung Droid Charge. Whenever USB Mass Storage Mode is enabled the ringtone it uses for notifications, incoming calls, anything defaults to this slightly annoying ringing tone. The tone itself I don't actually mind all that much since I realize that all my custom ringtones are stored on the MicroSD card which is not available to the phone when Mass Storage Mode is enabled.
My issue with it is the LENGTH at which it rings. If I receive a text while I've got the phone plugged in to the computer and am dinking around with the files on the mSD card it just rings and rings and rings. In fact, I got a text message just as I started typing this post and it's STILL ringing right now as I type this sentence. Apparently it won't stop ringing until I actually do something to acknowledge the notification.
So, my main question is this - Is there a way to change the length that it rings? I most definitely do NOT need a five minute long tone to let me know that I've received a text (plus it drives me nuts to have it ring and ring and ring until I finally grab the phone and open up/acknowledge whatever the notification may be) or have had a reminder from my calendar pop up. My normal text ringtone (the Druuge victory ditty from HyperMelee for any of you that are Star Control II [best game EVER, BTW] fans) in is all of 3 seconds long and that's quite sufficient.
Is there perhaps a way to copy my regular notification ringtone to the phone's built-in memory and tell it to use that when mass storage is connected? In fact, it'd be nice to copy all of my active ringtones to the phones onboard memory. If this happens to be possible, then I figure that it'd ring like it normally does when USB Mass Storage mode is enabled. If it's not possible to copy anything to the phone's onboard memory then I'm perfectly willing to settle for just shortening the length at which that damned Storage Mode tone happens to play.
Has anyone else experienced this, or is it unique to the Samsung Droid Charge?
No way to change this?
Can you move your ringtones to your phone memory? Is your phone rooted?
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
I just installed the leaked official Gingerbread ROM, and while it says it's rooted (the filename at least does) it didn't appear to be so. I just installed the debloated version of the ROM on the same page there.
Do the rooting methods shown out there depend on having a specific ROM installed?

Notification sounds not working.

I have 2 apps installed, WhatsApp and Ring Doorbell that are not giving me sound notifications. For me the volume on this device is not very loud. I work in a noisy environment and need loud volume. My last phone (Note 5) I did that sound mod changing the volume xml file and used very loud notification sounds (mp3) and it was perfect. So I took those sound files from the Note and put them into the Mi 10 Ultra in Ringtones folder and set them. Since then I get no sound notifications.
I did some digging and found an app 'Hidden Settings for MIUI' and set it to 'play sounds', but that didn't fix the issue either. I'm completely new to MIUI and am all out of ideas. Its strange, but when I open the phone, the WhatsApp notification sound beeps to let me know I have a message, but I have to open the phone, if its sitting in my pocket I get no notification. Ring Doorbell is not working at all as far as notifications go. Nothing. If someone who knows MIUI could give me some help it would be greatly appreciated.
Edit: shouldn't have wasted my time
That's it for me. SIM out and back to my Note 5. Great phone but the software is atrocious, if I had of known the nightmare this would be I wouldn't have bought this phone. So now it goes back into its box where it will stay, 6 months 1 year I don't care, until there is an alternative to using this absolute mess that MIUI is. A real shame, but something as simple as a couple of apps really is the deal breaker for me. Maybe I'll sell it? Global ROM? Who knows ....but for now its a useless device that can't even run a couple of apps? That is as bad as it gets. Its privacy settings are the worst I have ever seen. Disguised as 'protecting you' but in reality its the other way around. If I wanted to be locked out and locked in and locked down I would have bought an Apple iPhone. Xiaomi makes good phones, but their MIUI software is the worst I have ever seen. I would not recommend anyone buy this device.
I actually was facing this problem and found out a fix. You just have to turn vibration on. For some reason some apps don't make a sound if it doesn't have vibration on for notifications.

I have Ring doorbell and Whatsapp working (sort of) as sometimes they are delayed.
I had to change settings/notifications/ring and set rules for notification as important and also make sure all notification settings are on
Then fo to settings/apps/manage apps/ring and make sure Autostart is on and set permissions to make sure the bottom 4 are set to green ticked. Then make sure restrict data usage set to WLAN and Mobile data and then set Battery Saver to No restrictions.
Hopefully it will work after that. Do similar things to other apps that may not be making notifications correctly.
PS I'm using China ROM
So I had this issue and figured out a sure way to get sound notifications working.
You just have to turn vibration on in the subtype of notification for said specific app. If you don't want vibration on all notifications for that specific app turn it off otherwise.
Here is the thing that helped me with the same notification issue! Just google "xiaomi mi 10 ultra notifications" and in the top 5 links you'll probably find an article from:
theunpopulartraveller. It explains the settings, and they need to be accessed by pressing and holding the app icon ^ app info.
Don't give up, try and you'll get the sounds from needed apps back. And ye, actually now I find the way Xiaomi did it much more convenient: I just turned on notifications for 2 apps, and all the rest are silent, while previously I had to turn off all the rest of the apps (much more than 2, definitely) not to get disturbed by all the bull****.
