Hey guys, I'd like to know if any of you have come across a PC-based solution that will backup all of the data on my T-Mobile MDA (HTC Wizard)? What I'm looking for is a solution similar to PIMBackup, so that I can easily reflash and then restore all my SMS messages, appointments, contacts etc to the fresh ROM.
I ask because my SD card died a couple of days ago, so I'm unable to copy information off to that, and it's probably going to be around a week for the replacement, but I'm really, really unhappy with the current ROM.

Okay, I had an idea I figure should work, just for anyone that may find this useful:
Install PIMBackup to the device's internal memory, and backup to My Documents on the device.
Connect to the PC, and copy across the backup file.
Reflash the ROM.
Install PIMBackup onto the newly flashed device's internal memory.
Copy the backup back onto the internal memory.
Restore the backup.
Its that kinda jumping through hoops that I avoided having a flash card I guess.

I'm in the middle of choosing a backup software. Which of these 2 is considered the best? I tried SPB trial and backing up about 90mb (12mb on main memory and 78mb on microSD card) of data took only 6mb of space. I was thinking that this is incredible compression technique or SPB is just backing up what is on my device and not the external memory.
Is this a reliable way of restoring data should I need to hard-reset the device? Will progs still run off the SD card after restoring? Is backing up to PC safer?
Most of the reason searching is difficult is that people keep starting new threads on existing topics. There are probably a dozen that discuss this exact question, including

which references earlier threads, too. Since I sync with two PCs, sprite doesn't work well; I use spb but it has had issues, too, but the current version is working well for me. Whatever you use, don't store the backup program on the minisd. Programs that run from the minisd don't even need to be reinstalled during a backup, they continue to run, but you lose the shortcuts.
I ended up getting SPB backup. Both programs backup everything that is on memory so in the event you need to hard reset you can restore everything back withou going through the hassle of restoring everything again. The problem with Sprite Backup is to do a restore you need to reinstall the sprite software onto the device which then needs a PC. Installing the application onto memory card doesn't help as it looks for certain registry entries which arn't there after a hard reset. SPB backup on the otherhad saves your backups as a executable file. So after a hard reset just click on the executable and a few minutes later you have your fully functioning XDA again.

Sprite backup will restore a backup file direct from Storage card - I have done it when my device went capput and i swopped for a new one.
There are options that allow you to create a self inflating exe file - hence you dont need to install the sprite software first.
After receiving my new device it was all back and working as i wanted it within 10 minutes!!

Actually, you don't need to install Sprite again.
When you first install Sprite, install it to the Storage Card. Then, if your device dies you can run the sprite program from the storage card, (get to it using FileExplorer) and Sprite will give you 10 days of trial. Restore during this time frame and you are fine.
Once you do the restore, all the registries are back and your Sprite is re-registered. I do this ALL the time, since I use backups to try out software and revert back afterwards.... it definately works.
Hello. Recently I flashed my SG3 to froyo, and backed up all data with various software. Or so I thought. When I wanted to recover my contacts and messages I only found empty folders, which most likely means that I didn't copy the files out from the SDCard
Well, then I installed a basic windows lost file recovery software (EASEUS data recovery) since I formatted the sdcard, and I was able to find a file called EclairSMS.sbf. Now I haven't found any application that could open it, and all googling results into Motorola's flashing-related stuff or people with same problems but no answers.
So my question is, how can I open SBF file and probably restore my SMS?

I am using Android phone for first time, It's a HTC Desire (unrooted), I have a 4GB memory card installed in it with lots of apps and stuff on SD card. Now I want to root my device and bought a new 16GB card. I want to transfer all my data from this 4 GB card to new one, and also want to partition it for rooting. what is the easiest way to do transfer all my data / sms / contacts / everything else to my new card. and my contacts are mess, they were saved on phone not syncd with gmail. I saved them as cvs file and uploaded them on gmail but now every contact is double. alot of crap going on in my phone. anyways want to fix all of it and install my new card and root my device with lee droid rom. can anyone help ?
Guys Sorry if this question have been asked before, I tried to search but couldn't find the answer.
First root your device and install titanium backup and backup all your apps and data. After this copy all the contents of your card onto hard drive. ( take special care that you get the folder named TitaniumBackup, it has all your app and data for restoring)
Then partition your card according to your requirements by any of the methods recommended( i used amon ra recovery) and flash your rom and setup your accounts and all. After all this you can just copy back the contents from your old card onto new one and install titanium backup and restore all your apps and data with it.
As for the doubles in your contacts. log into google contacts and it lets you remove 'doubles' pretty easy.

Well since this was my first root I guess I made a mistake or maybe not?
So this is the case :
I have an HTC One S (Rooted using SuperSu Method)
What I did for backup is just copy all the content from the phone (in hard drive mode) to a folder on my pc (which ended up being around 7gigs)
My question is how do I restore all that data\pics\apps\profiles back to my phone?
(Tried to copy past it back into the phones SD-Card and rebooting, The phone doesn't recognize any of the data)
Any way to actually make this work? or is it a lost cause?

As far as apps and their data goes, only some info is saved on the sdcard, the rest is saved on the devices internal memory.
Only restoring the stuff saved on the SD card aint gonna bring back any apps. They need to be reinstalled properly.

How about all the Contacts \ Messages and ect?
Because I have all the files on my PC (Exactly the same files that have been on the phone before the ROOT\Unblock)
Can I recover those back to the phone somehow?
Messages and contacts are stored on internal memory, unless you export them.
You dont have access to anything except /sdcard/ through the PC, unless you use ADB.
edit: What I mean is, if you have only backed up /sdcard/ (which seems to be the case), you have lost everything on the internal memory (such as messages and contacts etc).

So basically even tho I copied all the content from the phone itself to the pc, All I copied is squat.
All the raw data I get is pictures.
So no encrypted data can be found on the storage partition and I have to just start over from scratch?
And the next time I root or flash, just use Recovery backup?
You didnt copy all the content. You only copied what was stored on the /sdcard/ (which is more or less the only thing you have access to without root).
Theres a very slim amount of data android uses on the sdcard, unless the user specifically tells it to.
Next time you flash, you should back up all your apps you want to save with for example titanium backup (requires root, which you now have), save all the contacts to the sim card, and export all messages.
Then after you have wiped and flashed a new rom, just restore the backups with titanium backup again, and import contacts from sim.
The backup/restore in recovery backups/restores the WHOLE system, so when you restore it it will be exactly like the way it was when you made the backup. (edit: to clarify, if you flash a new rom, then restore a backup made on another rom, you will return to that rom the backup was made on)

Got it
I actually found some encrypted data such as : Whats up message history, Some Contacts, Specific apps.
And I recovered all my contacts VIA my google account.
Only thing lost is the applications, which I will reinstall in like 30 minutes.
Anyhow I am quite happy I got into the rooting business, Already feel the different abilities and the uncovered raw code + new line of root supported apps waiting to be savaged by me.

And I think the original ROOT tutorial post should have a step which is a "back-up step" which explains how to back up most of the info before rooting, and the ability to back up with root.

I'm really out of my depth here, so I figured I'd ask you all for help! My Samsung Galaxy S2 sgh-I727 recently got stuck in a boot loop (most likely due to a faulty power button), and I have a new phone coming in on Monday to replace it (as it's quite outdated). I was able to use ODIN to flash CWM onto the phone, which I used to make an Nandroid Backup onto my SD Card. I then put the SD card into a friend's phone, then transferred them onto my computer, merged the files together (data.ext4.tar.a and data.ext4.tar.b and the system.ext4's), then used winrar to explore the resultant file folder.
I am mainly looking to get my contacts back, and, if possible, various media, such as pictures, music, videos, etc. From my poor Google-fu, i noticed that many people mentioned that Nandroid does not backup sdcard, but I was unsure whether that meant external sd card or the sdcard storage directory (sdcard0 and such). If it does not backup pictures, music, videos, etc., is there possible a way to use CWM or such to backup these files?
Also, I found a .com that looks like it might contain contacts, maybe, but I'm not sure how I would access them to find it.
If I can clarify this in any way, I will try! If this might also do in a better place, just let me know! I'd appreciate any possible help!

Put the backup back in the folder fr where you go it and reboot into cwm and restore it. Now the Nandroid backup doesnt copy your external files, It backs up your current system state like contacts call logs all the apps. You cant simply extract files from there. You to restore it to get your system state back with all the apps and everything.
