How do you cook Cab or Exe files into a Customized ROM for Tornado? - HTC Tornado

Hello all,
I have a SDA and I am trying to personally customize a WM6 rom based off of Nitrogenious (v5...by the way, great version, thanks!!) WM6 but I cannot find any detailed information on adding files (cab or exe...moreso cab files) to the ROM. I have found Molski's Devpack by Duke for dumping/rebuilding ROM (Great pdf guide and awesome tools!!).
I am needing the detail to actually add files (exe or cab) for customizing this ROM (i.e. what is the process in obtaining the .dll or other related files and where do I add the extracted files...Which files do I actually use after extraction? And do I create another folder and just place them in the dump directory? What do I do? Here is an example: I am wanting to add the HTC File Manager 1.41 cab file to the ROM and I need to know which files to use and where to place them.
I believe I have all the necessary tools: Molskis DevPack and WinCE Cab Manager, I just need a little guidance/assistance.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks again and thanks for this great forum!!

custom cab files

Hi All,
Can anyone direct me to some usefull tutorials on creating custom CAB files for my SP5.
At this stage, i'm just trying to create an automated CAB that will change the homescreen to a bitmap of my choice.
I can manually dump the file on the device, but i'd like to put it into a cab file so it will automatically dump the bitmap set it as my homescreen.
any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the response guy's.
I've actually got the OCP CAB manager application.
But it doesn't work with Windows Mobile 2005 based CAB's.
Smart archiver doesn't support WM2005 CAB's either
I'm finding there is a lack of suppoort for WM2005.
I guess i'll just have to make them manually by compiling from an inf file.
Can anyone post a template inf file for the WM2005 OS ?
I can use that as a base, then compile the CAB with cabwiz.
thanks again.
keep pushing ,I want to know the same thing as you.
I tried so many way to open and edit file in Cab-files for WM2005.
Just some files that can be open with CeCABManager.

Customizing .nb0 (ROM) files

Hi everyone,
My PDA support center distributes updated roms in "nb0" file format, I was wondering if anyone could help me throught openning this file and doing some modification. Since there are many unusefull applications inside it and I want to delete or subsitite them. I read some topics about cooking roms in forum but I cann't find any information about customizing "nb0" files.
Thanks!
Pedram
Fortunetly, I could dump content of ".nb0" file with tools provided here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=249836 (Beta: WM5 ROM editing tool). I got pleanty of files in dump folder. It's har for me to diffrentiate which file is which!
Could any one help me to find my voice command application inside this dumped rom and repalce it with another voice commmand application such as MS voice command?
There are some files and directories with this name in my dumped rom:
VoiceBar.dll, VoiceCtl.dll, voicedll.dll, VBarCall.dll, VCOMCtl.dll
I am really confused! I do not know what files should I delete or where copy new files.
Thanks in advanced.

How to "activate" extended ROM?

Hi guys,
I flashed my Wizard with the base OS ROM version 5.2.318 (build 15342.0.0.0, customization) published in this forum about a month or so...
After flashed, it just start the OS without running the Extended_ROM content, so I installed all cab files inside Extended_ROM folder by myself.
What I should modify in order this run automatically on next hard-reset?
You have a G4 Wizard looking at your signature, thus the files Autorun.exe and Config.txt (a list of all the cabs in the right format- these files can be found in the Faria Ext-rom tutorial package) need to be in the \Windows folder but they can still point to run Cabs from the Extended ROM. Check the registry before cooking to see it points to the autorun file then you're good to flash.
Thanks for the response... I did it and is working now!. Useful tip.

How to make a CAB ?

Hello,
I dumped the factory ROM of my Kaiser (part00.raw, part01.raw... ).
I would want to extract from it some applications that are useful for me, and reinstall them on my new ROM (Schap 4.31).
So, is there a tutorial about a method to do CAB file ?
I don't want to use ROM cooking for now.
Sorry of my questions, I'm a novice !
;-)
Thanks in advance.

What you have is simply raw data. The eaiser thing to do wold have been to pull the cabs out of windows FIRST, then just install them. If you want to make cabs out of the OEM's just using raw data, I hope you have a lot of time on your hands, particularly if you've never done this.
The first step for constructing cabs out of OEM raw data is to reconstruct the rom. I suggest starting with this excelent guide by jcespi2005. SEE HERE: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=337066
Once you've recontructed the data you'll need to pull out all the OEM data including the .rgu & .dsm files. You'll then need to create an initiaflash file with the location references for the contents of the program.
Once you've done all that you can think about making the OEM into a cab.
It' much easier (if the proggies your looking for were part of cutomization & were originally cab files) to find the cab or ask people with that original rom to post the cab.
If they did indeed start as cab files you can find them in windows already as cabs. If you're trying to cook your own rom & want the programs as an OEM package or if they were already an OEM package, you'll need to reconstruct, extract, & then compile for a cab.
If you tell me what proggie you want I can most likely point you to it as a cab already.
Visual Studio has a template for it.

Create CAB file

Can anybody explain me how to make a self-extracting cab file, and what software to use?
What i'm trying to do is this:
I want to CAB some translated Manila files and put them into the \Internal Storage\Backup and Restore\Cab\ directory of my Diamond, so that i can have the files automatically extracted to the devices map \Windows\ after a hard reset.
Thanks & best regards
You can use WinCE CAB Manager. There is a free test version aviable. It can create cabs easy.
or QuickCAB
