Anyone know a WM6 theme previewer? - General Topics

I'm trying to find a TSK previewer for on the PPC (not on the PC). Although I've renamed my themes, they're all of ladies in (mostly) bikinis, so there's a limit to the descriptions I can use! Does anyone know of a program that will run on the PPC and show me a thumbnail of the theme so I can choose without having to load each one in turn?
I've been searching for ages for this without luck, but I know someone's going to point me to an existing thread - so I'm going to apologise now if it does exist and I've missed it!
Thanks.

Download ThemeGenCe and then open them up in there and you'll be able to see what they look like on your PC. You can also then edit them if you want with it also, or even make your own.

Not quite what I'm after
Thanks for the suggestion, Xeno1, but I've already got an application to preview the themes on my PC - I'm after one to preview them on my phone when I'm out and about.
Thanks again for the reply though.

This is an old post I know but wasn't answered and I was looking for something similiar myself. Here is my suggestion
BVRP Theme Manager v2
It runs on your PPC and it creates previews of your themes and caches them in the form of JPGs with the extension PTM. Its great for previewing them and allows you to display them in multiple views:
- List
- 2x2 grid
- 4x4 grid
- 8x8 grid
- 16x16 grid
- Full screen
The only problem is its a little slow and awkward to create the previews if you have a lot of new TSKs. You have to view it for it to create the preview, so in the 8x8 grid it will only create previews for the 64 themes in view. If you have additional themes you have to move the cursor.
Pocket Theme Manager also has a theme rotation feature but it keeps the whole program in the memory for this (about 1MB RAM--way too much). Also it doesn't handle going back n forth between QVGA and VGA themes. You are much better off using ShantzTodayChanger (which you can find in General > Developer forum here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=311173

Today 'TSK' files can they be manipulated?

Today screen files appear to have the extension .TSK can you please tell me which folder/file these are stored in and can any file be made into a TSK type file? If so how does one go about it? Also I am not sure how you find these files and/or how can you change the extension of them.
Also what is the difference between the today screen and wallpaper
Also the explorer option only appears to search the 'My Documents' folder does anyone know of a good equivalent tool either as freeware or for purchase.
Thanks in advance John.
Hi
The "theme" files (*.tsk) are stored in \windows\ directory.
TSK consists of such things as:
color scheme for Start menu, bottom bar and application windows.
background picture (today screen background)
start menu style / picture etc
TSK files can be created by various tools (including some outdated one from microsoft)
The option "use this picture as background" lets you override default background (by TSK) with the one you provide.
Thanks but I think its because you can't see the extension, plus as I mentioned the search facilities are crap. You can't search on '*.TSK' for example. I think that is why i asked for an example of a good replacement.
What is the difference between the today screen and Wallpaper. Also are you aware of what tools can create them?
Thanks again John.
Hi again.
You should use your PC to access system files on your PDA.
That gives you faster browsing, file extension view and many more.
Mobile file explorer and PDA functionality in general are designed to be simple for task-oriented working.
Enough of romantic crap
Don't mix "today screen" with "theme" and "wallpaper".
Today screen is a PDA equivalent of PC Windows's desktop.
Theme (in TSK files) is a... well... graphical theme for today screen.
Wallpaper is a picture that's behind anything else on today screen.
Most themes have wallpapers in them. But you can change wallpapers manually (choose bitmap files from memory or use the theme's default wallpaper)
Isn't that simple ?
I don't know any good software to create themes.
In case of making wallpaper...
Just make a bitmap in some standard format (BMP JPG GIF) with resolution that matches your device's display (320x240 in most cases).
You can do that even with windows paintbrush
Have fun.
cetuner is a good way to make themes actually on the pocket pc, which is relatively rare. Most is pc based. But it's not quite as complete as some pc based softare, mainly in manipulating the wallpaper. But i don't use wallpaper, so no issue to me.
Microsoft's free theme maker is a perfectly good place to start. Move on when you reach its limitations.

Want to make your Pocket PC Today screen look exactly like iPhone? READ THIS!

Guys and gals, I see this is by far the most frequently read thread. This is why I ask you here to click http://www.petitiononline.com/xdadevs/petition.html and sign the petition.
Here follows the original article:
XDA-Developers (the most active Pocket PC Phone Edition forum) forum member hanmin has just made available a way to skin your Pocket PC to, Today screen-wise, look exactly like an Apple iPhone.
You may also want to read the subsequent posts in the thread (starting with the 8th page; I especially recommend this).
Note that you MUST have a forum account in there to be able to access the attached files! Registering is very easy - just click this link and create a forum account.
Go get it as soon as possible (before Apple chimes in)
Admin Edit: screenshot removed
With Wisbar Advanced 2 you could also skin it out with OS X.
edit:
I have removed image due to the following post:

wonderful-but just how does one install and activate these files? i've downloaded them, extracted them but haven't a clue how to continue and make them work on my PPC6700.
Way cool idea, though!

iPhone skins
This is probably a very dumb question, but how do you install claunch skins after you unzip them? After unzipping iPhone for example, there are 12 bitmap icons; iPhoneAlarm has a folder with some more bitmap icons, and a .skn file?! How does one proceed from there? I tried to drag these files to my pocketpc (under ActiveSync) but that did not worK?!
Also in a similar context, can I install theme files (.tsk) in the MY DOCUMENTS folder in the SD card? and not in RAM? I just did this, but when I look at my x50v under Settings>Today I only see what came with the axim (Dell Default, Guava Bubbles and Windows Default)! I cannot see my other .tsk files that are in My Documents BUT in the SD card! Did I do something wrong? Isn't it better to have the .tsk files not in RAM to save space? and is there anything that would automatically rotate through the .tsk files, like a screensaver?
Thanks for any advice/suggestions,
CP

Delete (I think this is right) the init.ink from StartUp in the Windows folder.
I also have the problem with the PhoneAlarm background.
Am I the only one that is able to get the phoneAlarm work with the carbon fiber background?!
This guy is having the same problem, but he solved it in a .. weird way. Others are having problems too. Let me know if you've found a solution.

iPhone without the Phone Alarm Plugin
I made my iPhone screen without the Phone Alarm plugin, since it looked to be a duplication of icons already on the screen.
However, I did change one thing -- instead of 32x32 icons, I resized them to 48x48 in order to take up more of the screen's real estate.
Then, to complete the skinning, I added Wisbar's Windows Vista Portable Edition Skin from the Lakeridge forums.
This is what I ended up with:

All runs ok except iphone.skn that even if i select it through cLaunch it isn't shown in the background skin, why ?
I've to change the extension or what ?
2) the 4 icons on the bottom side are only pics without shortcuts to the programs, isn't it ? othrwise how to make them runnable ?
Thanks

Polaris Linux Android - Wallpapers, Themes and Icons

Polaris - Android
Introduction.
Keep in mind:
It's a qvga device (240x320 normal view, landscape view is switched > 320x240)
Some useful calculation:
From Vga(320x480) to Qvga (240x320) *percents*:
320/100% = 3.2
3.2 = 1%
240/3.2 = 75%
480/100%= 4.8
4.1 = 1%
320/4.8 = 66,666666666666666666666666666667%
What to do?
What we need to do, is to fix all icons to QVGA size and make wallpapers from 640x480px to 480x320px.
Further we need to fix the layouts etc. Because the music player also doesn't fit anymore.
To do list.
Reveice the icon's and layouts from developers *
Resize the icons *
Resize wallpapers *(480x320)
Fix the layouts *
Create new themes
Create new icons
I've included an wallpaper, this is a test wallpaper that shows the right size of QVGA.
So let's start with it, we can need all the help we can get.
We first need all the layouts and icons to change (that are wrong settled in android) so maybe that one of the polaris developers (rogro?) can send the files.
Post all your ideas, suggestions etc.

http://drop.io/olbermann (Wallpaper PSD. don't forget to resize it to QVGA)

Keep in mind, we are making it for QVGA.
It's not easy, but it will come.
I will make soon a theme for Android, I'm a graphic artist.
The information in this thread is central and I hope that you guys also can start making some theme's, icons etc.
It makes me happy that the polaris community still has people who will keep working for our cellphones. Thanks to all of them and specially now, to Venigo.
It would be nice to see a theme of black and white colours and kinda minimalistic

The calculator as not a good layout. The numbers are all mixed because our screen is too small...
Maybe we shoud begin with this... We just need the original png or gif and resize them (or maybe just give them a flater apparence).
sorry Venigo, but you did a mistake that could confuse other people:
VGA is 640x480
HVGA (Half VGA) is 320x480
QVGA (Quarter VGA) is 320x240
cheers

That's the landscape format width x height.
The view size is, if you holding your phone straight ahead. 240x320.
But if you use it 90 degrees flipped, it is indeed 320x240.
So it's not a mistake .
And indeed the wallpaper would then be 480 by 320... am i right?
Great thread! You guys are so much more organised than the Kaiser Android development!

That's correct, I have also added a good resized wallpaper in the start post to look at the size.
It's easy to resize, it's a bit difficulter to make themes for android by now because I don't have time for it now and I don't have the goods (files from android) to make it.
So the theme making will coming later some time, when the developers can drop some goods in this topic.

I´ll promote this thread in the kaiser android thread, because this would help all QVGA devices running android!
Android resources (images and image settings)
Attached to this post is the file framework-res.zip. Inside are most of the images used in android and the settings files to display them (size settings in xml). The original file is framework-res.apk. Developers need to add the changes to this file.
Hope this helps.
Great to see the development spirit alive. Hooray for the Dutch !

text message background

can anyone be kind enough to tell me how i change the background when you click on the tabs (eg the background of the text message/calendar etc screens)
i want this sort of image (although in an ideal world would look less paint edited)

cheers...have searched but to no avail.
edit:i tried making a theme off of the winmo website but it didnt load up when i installed the cab
There currently isn't a solution for different backgrounds on different tabs. You can either have one for the home tab, or one for all of them.
Since touchflo has been around for quite some time and no-one's ever had different backgrounds on each tab, I don't expect to see it any time soon.
If you'd be interested at a background on all tabs, have a look at HDWall. Just be aware that you'll need to install the high quality cab (in the first post) in order to use cabs created with HDWall correctly.

Hope this helps

I wonna make my own Sense 2.5 slider icons. HOW?

Hello.
I'm a "vet" WinMo user - especially with Omnia i900.
I also made this "Ultimate-Total" theme fro Omnia (S2U2, Manila, etc) in Modaco.com, a quite popular one.
Anyways... I bought now a HD2 Leo. I found pretty soon, that it's NOT the same (easy) way to edit the Manila (Sense 2.5 in Leo).
In Omnia, I just opened the Windows directory, copied all the .png files in a temp folder, edited them and re-copy them back. (Or even better, I was extporting the Manila theme with the M2DC app in my PC, opened the file with WinRar, edited them, imported them back to the Manila file and copied back to Omnia...
In Leo, it's NOT THAT easy, at all!!!... Anyways, after so many months, I found many-many things already done (in cabs) and I don't have to worry much... But, I want to edit/modify all the Slider icons, the Slider sellection icon and the tab's large icons (when you're changing tabs, the large one in the middle of the screen)...
Can you people, please, please tell me, how can I do that? Can you write me down the proccess? What progs/apps I need? What's all these icons' dimensions?
Reply me back, m8s.
P.S.: I'm using rom with Co0kie inside. So, there is an EXTENDED (large) Home screen - with 2 additional screens (left-right). The WALLPAPERS MUST be larger than the original/usual one, then - and how much (dimensions)?
What would be this larger/wide wallpaper's size?
Skinning Sense/Manila files is not really that complicated as it looks at first.
They actually come with their own format, but at xda you´ll find easy-to-use conversion tools. Look for "m9editor" or "CFC GUI+".
Especially with the second one, you´ll find out how "easy" it is to find the graphics and their names.
An easy way to find out what files you need to change is to download the thing you want to change, check the files, and then start your work - modding in the png-capable image editor you prefer, convert the work to Manila/Sense files.
That´s about it.
EDIT: Just forgot about the wide wallpapers: Panorama is 1440x800 (3 times the normal one), in CHT 1.8.5 it was 960x800.
