How to install Linux on HTC S710 (Vox) - HTC Vox

Hello everybody,
i have been gifted this smartphone, which is already out of warranty (my colleague fell into a swimming pool with it and both joystick and keyboard are experiencing problems ) so I sent it to the italian HTC center to put it back to work again.
My colleague gave it to me as a gift... and now, if the keyboard will be working again, I would like to install Linux on this phone, as Windows has been definetly kicked out of my life 2 years ago
Can anyone help me on this issue?
Please
Filippo

Toshiba Portege G500 / WM6 Upgrade

I know this is really only a place for HTC made devices but does anyone use the Toshiba Portege G500?
Looking for a Smartphone again as I'm getting a little bored of my MDA Vario II, the PDA novelty has finally worn off after having an XDA Mini S before that.
I really like the look of the Toshiba Portege G500.
Does anyone know of any WM6 upgrades available for it? Since it seems like a great speced device with having a fast CPU and HSDPA.

i need valid link
at mpx.gen.tr you can actually find stable WM 6.1 and WM 6.5 roms for the device, play around a bit.
edit:
http://www.mpx.gen.tr/showthread.php?t=24236 actually have the most stable WM 6.5 roms, two versions lite/standart, I guess google translator will give you enough ideas about what they offer though =)

ROM
I need help in creating miniSD bootable rom.
HELP
What do you mean?
You don't need to "create" a bootable rom, imo.
The .XLDs seem to be X-Loader files and afaik you need to format your SD to FAT16, copy the .XLD to it and start your mobile with "*" pressed and "PowerOn".
"SD Card Upgrade" should appear.
That's what google translated though...
Since i get G500 in some days i'm not the best resource for info.
So please don't kill me if you brick your brick - ehm phone.

Porting linux drivers

I know its a sore topic but... how possible is it to port the display drivers from android to wince? My programming skills don't extend to driver development so im unsure as to what it would entail. I have seen many examples of linux drivers ported to win32 and they all seem to work fine, for example i use ext2ifs on a daily basis. I have even seen attempts that go the other way (eg. NTFS for linux). It can't be impossible. I seem to remember in a thread someone said that if they knew what registers were used to control the imageon then they could possibly create a driver. Im thinking that all of this information is somewhere in the linux kernel code - obviously its tailored for linux but the addresses and registers should surely be the same? I have been looking myself and there are a few interesting directories such as kernel/drivers/video/msm and arch/arm/mach-msm. Im currently trying to look through the code so i can put all the required .c and header files in one place. When its done, ill zip it and post it here.
Apologies if this has already been discussed but i couldn't find many responses (i did find someone asking the same question).
I also posted on another thread that i have been in touch with a company that holds some technical documentation for various Qualcomm chips. I am currently waiting to see if it is worth pursuing as it will cost me money and i would like to know that its gonna be useful before shelling out any cash.
The thread is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=357885
Ill just fetch the flame suit...

[Help] New to this, some counseling please. :)

Hi, guys!
After much waiting, begging and whatnot, I got a brand new, used Qtek S100 from a friend of mine.
Now, I've been messing around with the ROMs, and got MA_DT_WWE_DutchRetail_11200_550_11200_Ship installed.
Now, what is the ROM you guys advise me to install, to better make use of my Magician?
Of course, I'd like to not have problems with Blutooth or the camera, so what is the most stable release available,
not needing to be the most recent?
Thanks all.

Hi, simurgh.
I've tried out all cotulla rom releases and i think that the "HTCMAG_ROM_WWE_O3" is the best upgrade for your Magician.
of course if you wanna try windows mobile 6.5 you're gonna have to give up your camera 'cause current release of WM6.5 has its camera removed.

Thank you, Dante.
That table is just class.
I believe it really is the best option.
I'm also wondering how the configuration of sms/mms/calls go.
Any help on this as well?

"Voice Call" and "SMS" don't need to be configured.
Non of these Roms supports "MMS" configuration but you can install "MMS service pack" on WWE_03, I didn't test this service pack on other roms but i think it should work as well.
You can download "MMS service pack" from here:

Great! Now just to figure how to get my SIM contacts (solved!).
ROM installed and running nicely

Yep.. We kinda mastered running all versions of linux on our phones a while ago... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1010923
btw.. backtrack is an Ubuntu variant.
Yeah, other distros are cool geek cred stuff. But to have a security testing suite on your phone is really dam nice. Especially with it not overriding the rom like the suite I have on my fuze.

It's the same thing. Backtrack is ubuntu with extra stuff added. It's nothing new at all. I snapped this picture back in March.
