Well, as the title said, should I get the new polaris or should I get the tytn II or perhaps touch/dual touch because of its size?
are you guys happy with the polaris? does it fit your pockets? tell me..

Polaris fits my pocket really nicely and I'm 5'8" and pretty slim build so I don't have big pockets! I really like it. I am an ex Palm PDA user for many years though so I am 100% comfortable with, in fact I prefer, not having a keyboard.

Yeah the keyboard is a real killer for "cool"ness
And indeed if fits in my pocket, with some spare room. Don't forget the Touch Dual doesn't have GPS and Wi-fi...

Yeah, as long as you don't want to watch any videoclips...

Don't have one, but based on HTC Class Action, the HTC TC /Polaris is one of the many HTC models which is not able to stream video at a decent rate, right?
Much depends on the selected codec.
3GP (.mp4) movies at the correct resolution 320x240 run smoothly for example. Don't try running 800x600 or so, that will get you into trouble, like on most cellular phones, don't know about other PDA's, but the Cruise definitely DOESN'T outperform its predecessors.

I disagree
Based on my own experience it's able to play video at decent rate.
Maybe there are devices better for this use but Cruise plays video not bad.
If I can give you an advice: try it!

Hmm, not interested in YouTube, even though they have some cool video's.
Recoding video's is no problem for me though. You're saying thay any video, even the ones with fast moving action, will play good on a Touch Cruise as long as I recode them to 320x240?

I also agree, heavy motion is not an issue, rescaling is.
So you're saying that the problems mentioned with the HTC series basically boil down to people trying to view their 700MB avi movie files without recording?
And that recoding those movies will solve any/all playback problems?

Don't have Polaris yet, but in this moment I don't see any worthy competition...
And for what I need it, I think I'll be more than satisfied.

That depends on the encoding format I think. I've tried a rather small H.264 movie, and although the specs say it should play it, it's horribly slow... Lower complexity encodings should be used instead, but of course, transcoding your entire libraby of movies is mostly not an option...
I have probably decided to go for polaris since it seems to be much appreciated!
Like I said before, i have already own a hermes (tytn) and don't use the keyboard, I have grown attached to the touch dual which I have tried for a couple of days.
Since the polaris seems to have nearly the same size I will go for it!
/soon to be polaris owner..

You won't regret your decision. Good investment
Ok i've been reading how a few of you guys have both devices and have been doing some comparisons. I want to purchase one of these two devices, as i feel that Tv-out is pretty cool feature i definetely want my next ppc to have. I've seen posts showing the omnia has better video playback with less choppiness then the touch pro aka fuze.. But how do these phones perform when both hooked up to a big screen? How do the quality/clarity compare? Do either have any lag while using the TV-out function? Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance..
Dave
let me just add that i currently own an ATT tilt. I have skyfire installed and i watch hulu videos all the time and the quality is pretty good. I was hoping to be able to install the new VGA version of skyfire on the touch pro and watch it on the big screen. Hence my original question.. Same goes for my mobile slingplayer... anybody use their devices for this?
And since your all here have huge brains and i not =) ... what is the probibility that we will see any updates or addons, or maybe a payable player for the HD2 that it can acctually manage?
I feel its time somebody just said it in a forum post here since it cant do it.
No, im no engineerer or developer, but i had my share of different touchscreen devices through the years and i ALWAYS found a way to play my divX/AVI movies ... or convert them and then played em.
I read this forum up and down and people are saying they play movies in full quality using that type of conversion, or this bit rate etc etc.... with.... no lagg, no screen tearing, no audio out of sync etc etc. All i can say to you is, ither your lying or your blind OR your using i cooked phone.
I tryed:
- The so super claimd internal standard players (Both of em) (Phone seems to always lack strength to play em without problems)
- Core Player
- TCPMP (Core)
- DivX Player
I prolly tested 6-7 converter softwares for example: Videora, HTC HD2 Video converter (With no pre set HD2 config, isnt that cute), Aiseesoft Total Video Converter, AVS Video Converter .... and i have NEVER got 1 movie to work. A short TV series episode might work somtimes if your lucky, but full length movies from DivX/Avi ..... it wont work. Or at least, through all these really waste of hours i at least not found a way. And once again, im not saying im the best guy on this. But what do you in that case have to be, a video producer to get a video working ?
I cant help it, this phone is pissing me of more and more, its slow in respons compared to the....ick ... Iphone, and has a tendency to lagg when your in most dire need to use the phone fast, you have to be prepaird to restart it 3 times aday at a bad day.... i was so much hoping that this would be the once, the windows phone i could fully enjoy ... on paper it sounded so great with the snap dragon and all ..... well well .... guess i have to buy another phone and wait another year to hope Windows manage to make a fast, not to buggy phone =(((((
I have stock ROM 1.66 in my phone and maybe thats why, but why should you in that case totaly rebuild your phone for somthing what 90% of the phones on the market can do when you buy em? Sorry for any bad language, im mad, and in not good at english.. i want this phone to be good, but its crap.
I would post this in the Leo forums and you'd probably get a better response.
However, that being said, I have had no issues using Core Player and running non-converted xvids from my SD card... on my cooked ROM. Sorry, doesn't help! I agree this should be done natively without issue.
Lets hope that WM7 has some fancy Zune integration that takes care of this!
Any reason you don't want to install one of the cooked ROMs? Worlds of difference...
This is strange . I have watched movies on my far slower 614c with 500mhz cpu and just 128mb ram . No recompression , converting ..... just copy -> paste
Both core player and tcmp are doing fine
Mazzarin, i would love to install cooked. But it seems so hard to manage, find the right rom, how to etc. Im scared i would make the phone a brick basiclly. Seems complicated all this, guess thats what im saying.
Does the phone get faster? like, less sluggish/laggish? And if your using WM 6.5.3 or somthing, much difference from 6.5?
My friend you should really try the Leo forum, I'm sure that you'll find some answers there.
Video playback
Okay, I totally understand where he is coming from. Only Microsoft can make Windows Media player suck in a pc AND a mobile device. I supose they're trying to sell more Zunes. Whatever the case may be, I'm having pretty much the same problem. I installed a Divx player but playback is less than stellar. Videora seems to work great for video but the audio sucks. I love my HD2. I think this problem can be resolved. I am also hesitant to try a cooked Rom. I may be more open to it in the future but I need more info on that. I would like to hear which cooked Rom is the best on an HD2. Some of my iPod files play very well on HD2 but others don't. I am considering on getting the Sprint version though. (HTC Evo) We'll see I still really like this one.
I have HD2 too, but maybe Acer neotouch S200 is better phone..
Do you have the 576MB of ram hack, and what res are you playing it at?
I know it's a huge disappointment that HTC didn't put in a HDMI port, something that didn't bother me until recently.
I know for a fact that DLNA works great for streaming videos and photos taken on my phone to my TV, even on CM7.
I also just recently saw those youtube videos of guys using their Evo 4gs as their desktop, and wondered if there was a way for this to be accomplished on our phones. I was mainly thinking there was some way to work some magic over DLNA, and then bluetooth speakers, mouse and keyboard for the rest.
Anyone know if this is possible at all or even semi possible?
(I tried to search before posting but the search was down)
I'm also looking for an answer to this
I would like to see some idea on this too. I guess we're in the minority.
I agree as well, this is something I would be interested in. I remember when I bought my previous phone (nokia 5800 XM). I was quite excited about it's video out function, only to find it's composite analog video out to be wanting.
When I was trying to decide between inspire and the Atrix, a big deciding point for me was the untested nature of the dual core, and so far I like the results of my choice, the 2nd gen snapdragon has plenty of ooomph to play my highly compressed x264 mkvs and the battery is somewhat reasonable, however the screen mirroring is something I would really be interested in, surely with the gpu/cpu combo in place some kind of solution could be put into place, it doesn't take that much bandwidth to push a 2d desktop worth of images, especially with modern network speeds.
Here's hoping!
I am really hoping for a way to do this too. That new crackle app would be a lot nicer if I could watch it on my tv.

I was searching for it too, but no luck.... Hope someone gets hands on this
I'm also looking for a way to mirror the screen of my sony tablet S to the TV set - via dlna?
would be cool to hear from someone with dlna related developement experience.
They say it's not even possible to make a screenshot on android without root permissions. (no, please dont start a discussion about screenshots now, explaining how wrong I am
Dude, I think you've got the wrong section, this is the INSPIRE 4G SECTION.
hope someone posts a tutorial
no matter what section. the problem is the same on all dlna capable devices.

Hello,
I was wondering if there was anyway to DLNA a video from HTC Watch to a computer/tv.
I know the Sensation can DLNA videos you record but how about with HTC Watch?
If it's possible can anyone give me advice? I'd be most grateful.
Thank you,
lilhugo
PS:
I found the file on my SD Card, but it was unable to read it due to DRM. Any other ideas to stream from phone to computer/tv?
Bump
Is no one interested in DLNA-ing from their phone to their computer/tv, but me?
me too !!
did U get a solution ?
I can't believe there's no answer for this. HTC Watch is great (with 5p weekends) but realistically I'd rather watch films on my 42" tv than on my phone when I'm at home!!
Come on people there must be a way to play through. Does a HDMI link work? I don't want to buy one only to find it doesn't.
