Have just been playing around with adding games to my device (HTC Blue Angel running WM6)
Games with installers show up under Games in the programs menu, However games that are just an .exe file that has been manually added do not show up under Programs / Games.
My question is, how can I get these .exe games to show in Programs / Games?
\windows\start menu\Programs\.......
Many Thanks.
So, games can be placed on the SDcard and a link to each game sent to the windows\start Menu\Programs\Games directory to make the games visible in Programs\Games.
yep. what you can do is hold down on the screen at the file with the stylus. this will bring up menu then you can copy.
then under the
windows\start Menu\Programs\Games
find a space at the bottom of the file list, then hold down on the screen with the sytlus, select paste shortcut.
This is good as you can keep all you large exe files on you sd card and just the shortcuts in the phone memory
also some games look for their data and dll files in the same location as the exe file so moving the exe file itself to \windows\startbar\programs\games
could cause the game to refuse to work

I have installed many programs all to my SD card (including some games) and I have noticed that many of the shortcusts appear directly in teh programs folder instead of the games folder. Is there any way of moving them?
Use an explorer program, ideally gsfinder+, and navigate to your \windows\start menu and sort them all out there.

thx - is there no way of doing it through file explorer already installed on MDA?
Yep, Navigate to "my device" and then choose windows, then start menu. Hopefully.
Gsfinder is easier tho.

cheers - worked perfectly
I am flabbergasted: I can't find a way to manage the folders in Programs. How do I create an application sub folder and how do I move applications into it? This should be intuitive but I just don't find it. Thanks for your help
Using a file explorer (I use Resco), navigate to Windows>Start Manu>Programs. Then Menu>New Folder. You can then move or copy shortcuts as you wish. If you're going to be doing a lot of this, you can also just do it from your PC via Activesync>Exlplore or by using a remote control program like Pocket Controller.
thanks emesbe, but I probably wasn't clear: what I am trying to manage is the icons in "Programs" (e.g. Media, Tools, Games...). How do I move applications in or out? How do I create a new folder of applications?
We may be ships passing in the night here, but I think the answer I gave you is what you are looking for. "Programs" is in the Start Menu subdirectory in Windows. You can rename, move or create new folders in Programs and then put whatever shortcuts you want into them.
It took me a while to figure out what you meant. I still find the process very unintuitive. But thanks a lot
Consider Using A PC
If you have a PC configured with Activesync, why not use it to make the changes. It's a lot easier using a mouse and keyboard, and the familiar Windows interface over Resco or Total Commander.
If you don't want to sync your Fuze to the PC, that's OK, just click cancel on the first PC popup, and you can still "explore" the device from your PC.
Then, from the Activesync window on the PC, click explore, navigate to Windows (takes a while to load) / Start Menu, and move things around to your heart's content using your mouse.
Some files or folders may be marked read only or system. You can sometimes change this from the PC using right-click/properties. Sometimes, you will need to use Resco or TC from the device to change these attributes, but you can then drag/drop from the PC.
The programs tab in TF3D allows me to include already installed apps listed in program files and elsewhere. Some apps though, i have installed on my SD card but they arent listed in the program files because either i did a hard reset or some other reason, so without reinstalling them is there a way to include them in the programs list?
If not i suppose a reinstall is in order, some apps though are big and will take a little while to install.
You can create a shortcut to the wanted exe files and then put it in Windows\Start Menu\Programs.
Or, if you have Resco Explorer, you have an option to send file to Start Menu when press and hold on file.
Thanks will try this, hope it works
Hi all.
I want to make icons in the program folder for applications that aren't installed on the device, but run off of a memory card. For instance, I run putty from the memory card, as it is a standalone .exe file. It would be easier to go to programs and launch it from there, rather than go to a file explorer, direct it to the memory card, and then click on putty.exe. Just want to save myself some time really. I know it can be done because BackupPIM does it.
Thanks for any advice.
PS I tried searching first, but it was a fairly specific thing and so I couldn't see any results. If you find any, shame me for being a noob, and point me in the right direction.
Thanks!
you go to the exe file that you wan to place in the program menu... then copy it.... then go the program folder and paste it as short cut... I dont know whether this will helps you
Shortcuts are text files with a *.lnk extension that you can place in \Windows\Start Menu\Programs folder. RESCO Explorer can do this for you (Send to Start Menu as Shortcut) or you can do it manually as explained in the WIKI. Hope this helps.

Click to collapse
Make sure if you do it by hand you do it plain text
Here is a tutorial.
Thanks guys that worked absolutely perfectly, just copying the file and pasting the shortcut. It's funny to think that you know so much about Windows Mobile, and then realise you don't know something so simple as this!
This will make a huge difference in my day to day life. It may even mean that my partner can now use TomTom (any more than clicking three buttons and she is annoyed, lol). This question and answer section was a great idea by someone, don't know why it didn't happen sooner.
Cheers! Keep up the good work.
Thanks
You guys are REALLY helping us noobs out allot. This worked like a charm.
One day we might have the "smarts" to do the same for others
By the way, I suggest you create a cab (you can use WinCECabManager) to have the *.lnk installed in your device so that everytime you flash a rom or hard reset you can just intall it.. I create a cab for all programs running from the storage card. one cab and i have all the shortcuts i need in my programs menu
Dear nir36
Can you explain that how we can create a cab of shortcuts the programs stored in mem card
Best regards
Get Quickcab 2.0 (hacking forum). It's pretty self explanatory to use, but when you make the cab, make sure in the name field that you name it 'mycabname.cab'. If you don't put in the extension, it doesn't work (at least not for me, lol).
The easiest way to set up the cab is to put quickcab in your c: folder, then inside that folder copy your start menu from your device. Delete all the links in the start menu you don't need, then just send the individual folders with the links into the \windows\start menu\programs directory shown in quickcab. Select 'no uninstall' so the cab doesn't go into the installed programs list. Having the named folders on your pc makes things much faster. You don't have to create the directory for the cab, and everything's organized properly. Do not create an empty folder in the cab file-this will give you an error, and a stupid command window will open, leaving you very disappointed.
Inside Programs, I have a folder 'Games' and another folder created while installing a game 'Games & App'.
Most of the games are in 'Games' folder but 1 is in 'Games & App' folder.
Is there any way, I can put the game from 'Games & App' in 'Games' folder, as I think its a shortcut only.
Thanks
With your File Explorer go to Windows - Start Menu - Programs & make any changes you want .-
