Change windows start logo in WM5 - General Topics

Since this is my first post, please correct me if I have posted to the wrong forum...
I am looking for a way to manually change the windows start logo. I think I found the bitmap that contains the image (ppcom.bmp) But I cannot change or edit it... I seem to have the same problem with the stwater image.
(I don't want a theme generator, I want to know how it works...)

i believe it varies from device to device

Helo, jedi jerk
I have an Ipaq 2790.
The error message I get is that I cannot change (or copy or delete) things that are in the rom...
There must be some way to manually apply themes and get rid of that ugly old-style microsoft emblem. I'd already be hapy if it were the xp icon...
Thanks for the reply

Remove Startup picture

Hi guys!!
I have a question...
My question is can i somehow remove my
startup picture when phone boots up??
Im using now Zeeshans 96 dpi rom, and no offence
but hes name appears big when i boot up phone, so
how is it possible to remove it??
Cheers
The first or the second?
Not the windows logo, another picture displays right after it
It's the second splash screen.
See here its name :
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\Startup\1]
"Splash"=...
or
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\Startup]
"Image"=...
Replace image with another one.
Bye.
and forgot to ask...
HOw do i acess registry in phone??
On Vox :
* Total Commander
or
* PHM Registry Editor
On PC (Vox plugged) :
* Ceregeditor
Bye.
ive installed and searched after the registry, couldnt find
any of them that youve typed m8
Couldn't find what ?
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\Startup\1]
"Splash"=...
or
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\Startup]
?
If you can't find startup, i don't understand...
i cant either find startup under System or HTC maps
Make a regdump, attach it on your post, i'll see if if find pictures.
(use Regdump.exe)
http://dillsoft.com/index.cgi?program=RegistryDump-PPC
Bye.
i found the file, but could delete it
Found in reg ?
i mean, i found the file in Total commander, but wasnt able to delete it, and in registry i couldnt find the registry key
What is the name of file ?
carrier_splash.png
Try to replace this file with another png.
Bye.
Still cant do it....
I couldnt find nething like splash/ image in the reg file.

Editing M2D when its built into a ROM?

I have a Elfin which is running the "Touch of HD" ROM
This has M2D built into it, and as a result, all files it uses are "system files" and cannot be edited.
This means the M2D editor cannot change the xml or anything else it does.
Is there any way of making these files accessable?
When using the editor, it ends up freezing and I have to softreset my device.
It would be nice to change the tabs around a bit, and update it to the latest version, but I just cant.
please dont suggest installing M2D as a seperate install and using it that way, as its too big to do that, and I cant install a newer version over the top, as it will try to overwrite system files, which just doesnt happen.
Thanks to anyone who can help

I am assuming that you have already tried this. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=4273
I am using Ultimate X V2 with M2D built in and I have no problem editing Tab placement, screen fonts, themes and today screen with this.
erm.. sadly that link doesnt appear to be going anywhere
you need to probably disable m2d (if the files are in use by another program you wont be able to access them) ....if you have further problems try using total commander instead of the default windows file explorer.
Bump
I had given up on trying to edit m2d for a while
but im wanting to use it again.
Problem is, when i use M2DC, even when:
m2d was installed by me, instead of being in the ROM.
m2d was not enabled
Whenever i changed anything, and then tell it to save,
it would just show me the spinning wait icon and refuse
to do anything else until i reset it.
any ideas?

Samsung Wizpro theme. Any ideas how to edit AdvHomePlug.dll?

Hi everyone
A few days ago i bought a Samsung C6625 (Valencia). The thing that looked nice on it was the wizpro theme and i whanted to see if i can modify it.
I finaly found a few information about it, but still i dont know where to start
Is there anione here that could take these files and see what cand be done?
If there are other information needed i would gladly give them Just tell me what to do.
The atached archive contains the dll file i found reference to in the registry. AdvHomePlug.dll and the theme xml that lead me to the registry clsid key.
What sort of modifications ur looking at?
You can use resource hacker to extract and edit the images in AdvHomePlug.dll. Those are all the interface images including the leftbar menu and the main window, contacts, wmp, etc...
All images are in PNG Format. U can extract and replace. If it is theme colors its in the voda xml file. I dont see any digital signatures on the dll and mui files you posted, how did u transfer the files? normal copy or ROMExtractor?
If you didnt do normal copy these require digital signatures before copying back, search xda how to self sign apps. Also it helps if u app unlock ur phone.
I copied the file normaly using explorer. About the modifications... I`ve seen on other samsung models the same wizpro theme but with different arangement of tabs.
And i was thinking maybe there are some mods for this like with chome just asking i dont know

I dont have the phone on me to check it, maybe tomorrow i can borrow it, I do however remember some regitry entries for playing with tabs, its been a while since i had this phone. check under HKCU\Software under mpharos or samsung.
I found those registry entries but i can only modify images for the theme. Are there any other registry entries where i can modify things like... plugins that show up, the order of those plugins, things like that?
Could you please dump the registry key HKCU\CLSID\{583AD178-223A-4bcd-AFBE-EBB50536F8BE}

I will help you with customizing the plugin!

That registry key just points to dll file.
Code:
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{583AD178-223A-4bcd-AFBE-EBB50536F8BE}\InprocServer32]
@="AdvHomePlug.dll"
I have attached the whole Wizpro OEM package.
Is there some way tomake it available for 176x220 screen?

Wizpro does not works on BJII - I have tried cooking it in ROM, but nothing happens - just a blank screen with background picture. Maybe some drivers are missing. Haven't figured it out yet.

custom icon issues

I dont get it, I have followed all the tuts online about using custom icons but nothing works. All I am trying to do is change the start menu icon on my tilt 2 from the default white windows logo to the colored windows logo and keep all the other icons at there default. Is there a .cab file out there that I can use to do this?
Think a resourse editor and a custom ROM is required
Yeah, you have to obtain shellres.192.dll, unsign it, open it with a resource editor (I used reshacker), replace the existing logo with the new one, resign it, and put it on the device with a .cab or Total Commander. As Rudegar said, you need a custom ROM to do this, since you're signing the DLL with the SDK certs, and not actual certificates cooked into the AT&T ROM. More info can be found here.

[Q] What is what in rom files?

I am trying to compile new rom for i637 out of original AT&T 6.5 rom, Telcel Mexico 6.5 rom and Chinese ROM. There are few things i'm interested in changing and I was wondering what can i find in eboot.eb0, pda.pda and phone.bin files. What do they do. What do they contain. WHAT IS WHAT?
Since someone wrote that in csc file there's language and keyboard and stuff I wanted to flash the phone with mexican pda file but with us csc so the keyboard won't get changed.
Can anyone please help me figure this out. Is there a way for me to extract csc from official AT&T updater.exe?
If anyone can explain it to me please keep it simple and clear cause it's my first attempt.
Thank you
Edit: Can you please tell me how to extract fiiles from AT&T updater. It's called MSM7X00 Unified Downloader.

I have a similar question.
I was wondering if there is a possibility that any of the files used to flash the BenQ E72 could contain the Splash image that comes when you turn on the phone...
I'm using Windows Phone 6.5 on my E72, but everytime I turn on the phone I see tha old Windows Phone 6.0 splash image...
That picture is not inside my Rom, so I guess it must be located in one of the files used to flash the device... I'm attaching these files to see see if someone more knowledgeable can tell me if there is an image within those files! Thanks!!
can anyone help me? I'm sure somebody knows...c'mon brainiacs

that file is in your ROM, but not as a .jpeg or some picture file.. There is a registry key that directs to a .dll file which contains the Splash Logo!
If you want to change the Splash Logo for any custom one, take a look in here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=769651
This is a Mortscript based Program
- Menu GridView to ListView
- Menu ListView to GridView
- Hide Menu Labels
- Show Menu Labels
- Change Startup Splash Logo
- Change Shutdown Splash Logo
- You can use any JPEG file with a 320x240 resolution
- You can also use the files in the \Windows directory, permission doesn't make sense (hidden, read only, archive)
In order to use it, you must download Mortscript: the link is in the same thread!

If you want to cook again with the right Splash Logo, use this resource:
You can only use a .jpg picture with a 320x240 (only for QVGA) resolution.
Place the file in \Application Data\Home\Your Custom File Name).jpg
Go to this path:
in HKLM\system\startup\1\
delete or backup STRING "DLL" Value "doani_Samsung.dll" (if any - found on remora)
create a new STRING with title "Splash" with VALUE "Application Data\Home\(Your Custom File Name).jpg"
in HKLM\System\Shutdown\1\
delete STRING "DLL" VALUE "doani_Samsung.dll" (if any)
create new STRING with Title "Splash" and Value "Application Data\Home\(Your Custom File Name).jpg"
I've tried all those things long time ago...So I say that the splash image may be contained in one of the files attached, so I'm asking if anyone can help me with that issue please
The old Windows Phone 6.0 image splash appears when I power on the phone...Then appears the Windows Phone 6.5 image splash...As I said before, that picture is not contained in my rom, dll file, etc
