MobileOffice 6.1 is available! - HTC Tornado

Hi!
I do not know if many users know that MobileOffice is already available. It was possible to download from the website of Microsoft but it suddenly disappeared on Saturday, so here: http://rapidshare.com/users/X3P898/1 is the alternative download. CABs are already extracted.
I hope this info will be useful

Thanks, getting it now

You welcome Just in case, the files are also here: http://www.mybigdir.com/7543 I packed it with 7-zip, which compresses much better than Zip. Newer WinRARs will have no problem with decompressing it.
Mobile Office 6.1 recognizes Office 2007 files which is useful because .docx files rare more compact than old .doc files. Docx are xml files compressed with Zip (the extension is different). What is interesting one can read .doc files compressed with Zip without decompressing them.

Thanks for this! Can you please tell us which cab to use? In this archive, there are 4 cabs, which one is right for WM6.0?

Yeah, can anybody explain diferrence betwen "office_smartfon_WM6_96.CAB"
and "office_smartfon_WM6_131.CAB" ?
Regards

Screen resolution. 96 is for 176x220 pixels, 131 is for 240x320 pixels.
BTW, this version is an update, not a full app (not my fault, AFAIK Ms does not plan any full version in the nearest future) so you have to have Office Mobile 6.0 installed before the update.

I forgot something. Language #409 is English, #415 Polish, so in your case you must go to MobileOffice_6_1_409 and install the 131 version. Or you can learn Polish. It is easy, just repeat: Chrząszcz brzmi w trzcinie w Szczebrzeszynie

Thanks (dzienks ) yokozuna.

Great thanks

do u mean that "office_wpc_WM6" is an update?

Microsoft released MobileOffice 6.1 as an update to 6.0. But it is possible to extract the .cab files from inside the .msi file and install it without already having 6.0!
Here's a list of MobileOffice 6.1 in many languages: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1556510&postcount=9

WM6 and Maction Monster Chinese for Wizard

I have used Monster Chinese (Version 5 for WM5) for my Wizard (8125, G3) since I purchased teh device a little more than a year ago and have had much problem. The only difficulty I got was the Monster SIP keyboard won't pop up so sometimes it required a soft reset. Now I loaded several different WM6 ROMs I found here but always have problem - the system is slowing down, sometimes it get frozen/won't weakup...
I am not sure if this problem is caused by Monster Chinese. However since a lot of people here reported very stable/smooth experience with the same ROMs on the same type of devices, I can only question the apps I added by myself if I get the problem other peole won't. I wonder if there is anyone who is also using this Chinese software on a WM6 mochine (especially Wizard), and if yes can you kindly share some of your experience about it?
I know someone talked about CE-Star but for some reason I felt Monster Chinese is a better choice. Now I might reconsider it if CE-Star creates less trouble.
I've been always using one of the WWE kitchens here, replace with chinese wince.nls, add chinese fonts, add necessary registry modifications. And I'll get a stable WM6 ROM with English interface, but fully supports chinese.

Sounds very promissing. Could you provide some details about how you can do this - necessary files, hacks...
Btw, is there any Chinese input method included?
XDA WM6 with Monster CHinese and SIP
I tried using CE-Star Suite 2.8 Version R2a freezes all the time, and cannot connect to msn messenger live.
Monster Chinese and it's SIP works better, less freezes and msn can connect but still freezes with wm6, but I found XDA WM6 version best for Monster Chinese ....less freeze and the SIP keyboard popups faster and doesn't feezes as much, also I overclock too. But XDA WM6 does make a different when installing Monster Chinese.
This is the only way I got chinese working well, but it does affect the OS sometimes. Oh also install monster chinese as your last program is best cause I notice sometimes it conflicts with other programs, but if you install it last it runs better.

Thanks for sharing your experience. So it is confirmed that Monster Chinese will affect WM6 performance. Good to know you feel XDA WM6 performs better. I installed this one but moved to NBD7.3 for HTC Touch Today plugin. I probably will move back when a new XDA version is released.
I hope Maction can release a upgrade for WM6 soon (but I doubt). I like the hand-writing input for both simplified and traditional Chinese it has.
One thing I also want to try once I got some free time - I want to configure the WM6 to support Chinese as lilila posted and install Monster SIP only for Chinese input. Hope this is avoid the conflict Monster Chinese creates. This will be valid if the problem is from Monster Chinese but not Monster SIP.

My feeling is the keyboard has more chance to popup if you install the Monster SIP the first. This is the major problem I have had since I moved to WM5. We may need more testing on this. But I will try to load it the last and see if there is any difference.

Oh hey I install it that way too, first I install the IME keyboards first then Monster Chinese, then Monster SIP...works best this way when I install in these steps.

Would you mind to share where to get IME keyboard for PPC? Do you mean it will just like the one we have with desktop Windows? Thanks.
I am able to get the Block-mode Handwriting function in Chinese WM5 work in WM6 WWE and also Chinese interface without having to cook a ROM. The process is not as easy as installing a cab, but I can share it here if you want.

download Windows Mobile 6 Professional Images (CHT) or Windows Mobile 6 Professional Images (CHS).
Install the Emulators, and extract the wince.nls(CHT or CHS version) files from the windows directory. Also extract the mingliu.ac3 font file for CHT and the mingliu.ac3 for CHS.
Export the [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\FontLink]
and
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\nls]
registries form the emulator for CHS and CHT.
Then in the kitchen, \SYS\WinCENLS_WWE directory, replace with the wince.nls you want: for CHT, copy mingliu.ac3 to the SYS\OS\ directory, for CHS, mingliu.ac3.
You can also prepare two OEM packages called nls and FonLink: the registry hacks for CHT and CHS that exported from the emulators. Or you can just import the registry after flashing the rom.
As for input methods, there are quite a few of them, either as OEM packages or in CAB formats.
Solution found.

Thanks for your advice. Taking the Independence Day break, I flashed my phone with NBD7.4 and tried several methods to enable Chinese support on an English ROM. Sorry I didn't follow your instruction since I don't know how to cook ROM and it seems not easy for me to learn . Luckily I found a simple way -
With NBD7.4 flashed into the phone, I simply installed a unicode font pack I found from the Internet, which includes multilingal characters, and restart (soft reset) the Wizard. The Chinese characters will be displaced nicely on screen. No need to reload wince.nls and/or change any registry key.
Later I installed Maction SIP (v5) with several input methods. Everything works fine so far.
This is a big issue to me since it resolved WM6 powered Wizard hangs up from time to time when Monster Chinese is installed. The only negative thing I can see is the font pack takes quite big space so if you need to load a lot of stuff in main memory, you may want to plan ahead.
DFUHMD.cab
Can you supply the link or file for DFUHMD.cab, How is your experience with is it more stable then Monster Chinese on wm6.
Lilila,
Would you be kind enough to share those files and registry changes with us so that we don't have to go thru all that trouble?
Thank you so much!

progress?
i'm really interested in this topic, i'm currently trying to get TomTom 6's chinese hardwriting/transcriber input to work, the pingying/zhuying work fine.
the handwriting/transcriber don't, though it seems to work fine with a chinese rom, so i'm trying to figure out where the problem is. i've tried installing monster chinese and CE-Star. both cause my system to hang...ALOT. so i was hoping this would work.
i'm just curious if anyone knows of the root of the problem, and if any progress have been made
i'm currently trying to make heads and tails of this
thanks

The link for the files:
http://rapidshare.com/files/45830591/CHtCHs.zip.html
I have built cabs for my packs, look at my signature.
The Chinese support pack includes all input method equipped with Traditional Chinese version of WM (Chajei, Phonetic, Writing Pad and Full Screen Writing. Chajei and Phonetic can use hardware keyboard).
The MUI pack localizes most parts of WM6, with shortcut names.
However before use, remember to backup your data, then apply the 2 security cabs, or you will get big trouble (Due to the fact that system DLLs are required to be signed, and it is not possible/feasible to get all DLLs signed with a valid certificate)
hey stark, i tried downloading the disablesecurity.cab from your website, the link doesn't work, says file isn't on server
is anyone else having that problem?
thanksss
Sorry, there is a mistake in the filename (CAB vs cab)
It is fixed now.
Remember to backup your Wizard before installing!

Help with PDB file?

I'm running WM6 on a wizard. I have a program which shows airfields and information about them called smart companion (attached for anyone who wants to play) which would be really useful for me as a commercial pilot. Unfortunately the associated database file is in pdb format which I was told would work on both Palm and WM (The executable is the WM version) but my wizard wont read it.
Does anyone know how to make this work or do i need a different database format? Can it be converted to the right one?
I have attached the pdb file as well.

For reading my PDB files I use a free program: OLIVETREE Bible READER: http://www.olivetree.com/pocketpc/
It has an option to read other stuff like ebooks, etc...

Thanks
Thanks for that I have downloaded it & will try it.
Ideally I would like to get the database to work with the 'smart companion' program as it allows you to add notes & shows the airfields in a proper diagramatic way.
Can pdb files be converted to work like this?
Thanks again

I am confused, are you trying to run an application made for a PALM device? If your answer is YES, try StyleTap you won't regret it: http://styletap.com
I just don't know if it is supported though. I use StyleTap to run SUperMemo for Palm. Although there is a SuperMemo for PPC but from a different company, and it sucks. The MapleTop SuperMemo software is better.
Thanks for the post cktlcmd.
The smartCompanion program has two versions. One for palm (a prc file) and one for WM (an exe file). However it only has one database file (a pdb file).
When I run the exe file on my wizard (tried it on wm5 and wm6). the programs runs fine but does not find the database. I made sure the database was in the same directory/folder as the exe file but no joy.
My mate who gave it to me reckons he knows people running it on WM and it is to do with where the database is stored but he runs it on Palm & doesn't know much about WM.
Since your post I have got it running using styletap and the prc (palm) version so I am very happy about that.
I would still very much like to work out how to use the exe version as it runs smoother (orientation changes very slowly using styletap when I want to use my keyboard and a few other minor annoyances).
Anyway your suggestion means I actually have use of the program, and I can run other palm programs if I want as well. Thanks.
Does anybody know if I have to have a pdb file in a specific folder for it to be found by a program?

Let me get this straight, when you install the PPC version it runs fine but can't find the pdb file, right? If the answer is YES, then there should be a setting within that PPC application on pointing to where you should place the pdb file. Otherwise, try the very root of the SD Card, that might be the default setting of the PPC application.

M$ Office Communicator Package?

I would like to integrate M$ Office Communicator into a ROM but I am struggling converting the original .cab file into a working package....
I have extracted the contents of the .cab file and created a .rgu and initflashfiles.txt files. The files get installed and it will run but I can't get the Today Screen stuff to display. I know there is a conflict with the 'rtcdll.dll' file since if you have VoIP then it already exists, however I am cooking the rom without VoIP (since it doesn't fully work). I have modified the .rgu to reflect the files are now in \Windows but the Today Screen stuff won't display. I have checked the registry entries and the files are there after the ROM has been installed and they are?
I don't know what else to look for, has anybody got any pointers
I can post the .cab if anyone can help?

Any success?
Any success with making a package from this? I had another play around but didn't get anywhere. I think the installation must create some additional files and/or registry changes that doesn't happen when it's installed as a package.
Do any ROMs have this in by default? i.e. not cooked ones but ROMs released by mobile operators or manufacurers? Maybe backward engineer it?

I did have it working briefly, however I am not privileged enough to have GPRS enabled on my company SIM so I only managed to test it when I temporarily rigged a Wireless AP up in the office. We were only trialing OCS at the time, however I think we now have it installed but isn't fully rolled out yet.
I spend very little time actually in the office so unless I can be bothered setting up a few VM machines with Exchange & OCS on I am unlikely to test it further...
I never managed to get it into an OEM package either, if anyone has one or wants to build one that would be good....
The latest version seems to be Office Communicator Mobile 2007 (2.0.387.0) from September 2007 and it says it is compatible with OCS 2007:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...24-F216-4887-92B0-F37D942E26E0&displaylang=en
This is a Windows Mobile 5/6 version and there is a (Smart)Phone version as well.

Update OCS
I know this is old but you need to disable the client version filter on OCS. If you're connecting over the internet, then you need to do this on your Access Edge server (under Application properties). Just lower the version to 2.0.1.0 and you should be good to go. M$ hasn't released a later version even as of this post (unless you know something I don't). I asked them about it and they know (sounds like a new version is being worked out).

I have no idea where you are going with that answer? This post was originally about making an OEM package of Office Communicator Mobile 2007 for use in a ROM kitchen.....
I have OCM 2007 working fine with our OCS 2007 Server either in the Office on the private network or via the Internet (GPRS or public WiFi). What I want to do is include OCM in my ROM so I don't have to manually install it each time I flash a new ROM. It looks like I am missing one final registry entry but I still haven't found it.

[REQ] (new) Office 2010 as CAB

Hi there!
Does anybody have a CAB of the new Office 2010 mobile?
I know that there's a cab from the beta around for a while, but
I'm searching the new version (with outlook) from the latest builds (235XX)...
I think that would be nice for a lot of people who don't want to flash a new
rom only to have the new MSO!
Thx in advance!

I created 2 cabs with this EXT, one which installs in program files, another that installs in /windows. The first installs fine, however, the created shortcuts don't work afterwards, nor does launching the app from the install folder. The cab that installs in /windows first wanted to uninstall the previous 2010 install (not sure if that was the first attempt or the beta I had install before). After that the installation fails, wants a different location
If anyone else wants to try (I've never created a cab before, chances are I did something wrong), here's what I used:
URL="http://www.techparaiso.com/how-to-create-cab-installation-files-for-windows-phone-devices/"] Cab creation guide
URL="http://thepiratebay.org/torrent/4252366/Wince_Cab_Manager_v2.1.0.35"] WinCE Cab Manager
And, if anyone wants to try, maybe this cab will work:
URL="http://www.megaupload.com/?d=C8VOMC2A"]Office Mobile 2010 cab
Could be that it works on WinMO 6.1 or lower, my WinMO 6.5 can't install it.
(I would have liked to create proper links, but the forum does not yet allow me to do this)
Might be that you compressed the cab or that you chose not to set a min/max OS. Am just done with setting up my hd2 after flashing a new rom, dont really feel like installing something that might screw office up, especially since its a company-phone and I use outlook and the office-apps daily
[Edit]
Interesting, I got an error when editing it with WinCE Cab Manager, that the data is corrupt...
guys,
from what i have read, the threaded emails is part of wm6.5.x and not the office 2010 cab. though i would love to be proven wrong!

My small gift to all of you WM2003(SE) users: great Web browser Opera Mini 5!

During the testing of the native Windows Mobile version of the current Opera Mini 5 beta (see THIS for more info), I've routinely tested it on my old, WM2003-only iPAQ 2210 Pocket PC.
Of course, the CAB installer didn't work as it's compressed; nevertheless, after manual decompression, the app itself did. That is, it's fully compliant with both WM2003 and WM2003SE, which is great news for all users stuck with those old operating systems and not having received any WM2003(SE)-compliant browser for ages. (AFAIK, it was Opera Mobile 8.65, almost three years ago, that still supported the OS – nothing after that, except for, of course, the PIE plug-ins.)
Therefore, I quickly remade the CAB file so that it also runs under WM2003(SE). It's HERE for download. (UnZIP it before installing!)
Here's a quick tutorial for anyone wanting to do the same:
1, in order to decompress the original CAB file (along with its INF file), download MSCEInf from, for example, HERE
2, in order to recompress the new and, now, WM2003-compliant CAB file, download CabWiz. It's part of Visual Studio and can also be found bundled with many CAB creator tools; for example, QuickCab 2.0 available HERE. Download the latter; you'll only need to keep the two cabwiz.* files (cabwiz.exe and cabwiz.ddf).
Incidentally, should you just quickly want to deploy some files in some predefined places (the app doesn't support relocation) and/or make some changes to the Registry, feel free to play with QuickCab itself. For our needs, it's not adequate as it doesn't support relocation, while Cabwiz does. Therefore, we only need to download it in order to extract the CabWiz files from it.
3, decompress MSCEInf anywhere on your PC; run it. Drag-and-drop the original, WM5-only CAB file in it.
4, click the „Extract CAB Files with original names in a folder” icon (the 7th on the toolbar from the left). Unpack the files to a previously empty directory anywhere. It'll, in addition to the files, create an INF file, containing the names of the files to pack, the shortcuts to create, the strings needed for installing the app in any other place than the built-in RAM and so on.
5, copy the two cabwiz.* files in the same directory where the just-generated INF file resides and enter „cabwiz name-of-exported-inf-file”. The CAB file will be created. As the cabwiz.ddf file defines cabwiz's output as uncompressed (see the Compress=OFF flag in it), the file will already be compliant with pre-WM5 operating systems.
Note that you'll need the excellent and free CabInstl app to install the app on any other location than the built-in RAM.
Also note that I've also tested Opera Mobile 10. Neither beta 1 nor the final version are compatible with WM2003(SE).
Thanks a lot my friend!!
This will be very useful for a lot of people!
I´ll include it on Opera Mobile Official Thread
Cheers,
Hi Menne,
Thank you!
Here is my HP iPAQ H3970 and your OM5:
Wow! Finger-scrolling works on my mypal a716. This is cool.
Opera Mobile 9
Hello. But what’s about Opera Mobile 9.* on Windows Mobile 2003 CE, does it work (like Opera Mini 5; thanks for it’s working)?

Dunno, will check it and report back.
BTW, the recently-released OM 5.1 has a native WM2003 build; no need for hacking.

Tested http://rs543.rapidshare.com/files/178322331/Opera_v9.5_build_15233_QVGA.cab - no go. Sorry.
Yes, you are right: there is Opera Mini 5.1 for WM2003; at present time it is installed on my device. But I hoped to find something like Opera Mobile 8.65, which is able to act like desktop browser. There is also a problem with Flash... Well, thanks anyway.
Thank-you
Just downloaded and installed it - I can't believe my Ipaq 4150 (WM2003) is running something so modern !
Many thanks Menneisyys.
This is truly my lucky day, just stumbled on this by pure chance.
This is working great on my HP rx3715 and gives it this much needed browser upgrade.
Thank you so much for this!
Cheers
