SD Card Went bad need help .......... - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario ROM Development

for some reason my SD card just went dead for no reason, I tried to format it with my card reader and it tells me that there is no card inserted ...................... does anyone know how get it to work again, or do i have to buy a new one

If your card reader won't read it and your phone won't either, try sticking it in a digital camera and see if that will recognize it. If it does, have it reformat the card and then put it back in the card reader and reformat it again to make sure you have a good clean format just to be safe. If the camera doesn't recognize it though it's probably time to buy a new one.
If the card you have happens to be a 4Gb card though, more than likely a digital camera won't read it either. You may have to go buy a newer card reader to be able to format it.

@ xeno1 .............
Thanks for your response, but for some reason it started working again today, well in my phone atleast, so when I get home I am going to test it in my card reader and even if it works I am just going reformate it anyway ......................... which would be the best formate to put it in FAT or FAT32
Thanks again

Either one will work in your wizard. Fat32 would probably be the better of the 2 though.

MicroSD slot...

I took out my microsd card from my old 8525 and put it in my fuze and it will not read it. I put it back in my 8525 and it reads it fine. I also use an adapter for my pc and windows reads it fine. Just got the phone today about 20 minutes ago. Could the microsd slot be bad? and YES I am putting it in the correct way. The SD cad is a 2GB kingston.
2GB SD cards are picky. I have a 2GB card in my camera that my laptop will only recognize about 50-75% of the time, although I've never had a problem with it in my camera nor with the card reader I have plugged into my other computer. Of course, it could be a defective slot in the phone, too. The only way to tell is to try with another card (preferably a different size).
microSD cards are cheap. I'd suggest getting a 4GB or 8GB card and seeing if the phone accepts that; if so, just use your pc to copy all the data from the old card onto your hard drive and then onto the new card. If not, you've still got a new card as well as evidence that the phone needs to be replaced.

microSDHC card reading problems

Hey guys!
Last friday, I finally got my Toshiba TG01, which came with a 8GB Class 4 microSDHC card.
I didn't put it in my phone, since there's a virus on some of these cards!
Now I want to format the card with my Windows XP computer, but when I try to access it with a SD card adapter, it freezes my Explorer...
It gets stuck until I put the card out of it!
I also tried a USB adapter on my Vista PC and it only tells me this:
"Please insert a disk into Removable Disk ( H: )."
Same thing on the XP PC.
Can anyone help me?
sounds like a defect microSD card
Try disabling the autostart feature and then use the Panasonic SD formatting software.
yip know the feeling, the cheap card that came with my HD does the same, although it still works perfectly with my device and is accessable using a/sync.
Going to buy a good make class 6
well id put it in the phone then put the phone into the pc and make it a usb mass storage device
then if it can be seen then awesome format it
the card wont have any affect of the phone its it plugged into the pc as a mass storage device as the phone cant se it
Try reformatting the card, to fat32 using hp's low level format tool it worked for me.
my card is fat32, pc using xp pro still wont recognise it using card reader, although all is fine in disk drive and active sync......no real biggy....
it may be a defective reader
Hi all, just wanted to add something to this, as I have a TG01, and have had a few issues with memory cards with it. This is something I poseted on http://www.modaco.com/content/toshi...5/strange-files-appearing-on-my-storage-card/
"Hi folks, just thought I would update you with a few issues I'v had re the memory cards. I've used the ones supplied by Toshiba, (not the best) but also a Sandisk 16GB and 8GB, and both suffered corruption issues. It took about a hour to copy most of the files over to my laptop, and to do that, I had to put the mem card in my Touch Pro! I'm not sure what this means, as some people have said they have had no issues. It would be interesting to see what proportion of us actually suffer from memory card corruption using other brands! Looks like I may have to carry a backup of my mem card for a while!!... "
I'm not the only the only one with issues, as a few others on that forum have had them too. Wish i knew what was causing it. May have to go back to the old reliable Touch Pro untill we get the promised upgrades?..
Lets hope not.........
nope its not the reader, bought a new one last week as i thought it may have been that. Im sures its something to do with micro sdhc cards and just being made baldy.... cheap is nto always good huh...............
mm thought id add a poll to the thread, would be interesting to see whats the worst offender.......
Let me know if your brands not there, ill add it
Hi, have you already tried this??

Formatting new SD card?

I have a MT3G rooted with CM 4.0.4 using the one click method. I'm getting a new Transcend 8GB Class 6 card. I believe this card come with an adapter to plug into a regular SD slot. To format do I just use my comp to format the card to FAT32? Then load my saved data back to the sd card and load it back into my phone? Is it that easy?
Welcome to forums,
Yes it works that way
lol, yep as orb says
I have the same card (which i will be shortly throwing in the bin due to its unreliablity) and find its better to use the sd adaptor than one of those crappy usb adaptors for micro sd cards (like the sandisk usb adaptor that doesnt work!!)
Just my opinion, but id recomend buying the best make you can when it comes to micro sdhc cards, my transcend one decided to wipe itself clean the other day during a phone call..... a sure warning that its on its way out....
Lost all my music, photos blah blah..... (didnt back it up either tut tut...)
Flash Format is the best way, imo. I've had corruptions before where my pc and fuze couldn't sse the card, but flash format was able to re-format. The demo works fine, and the app costs about 10 bucks. I've had major problems with my 16 g sandisk, but think I figured out how to keep it healthy. Quick tips: 1 Set all default downloads a nd save paths and whatnot to main memory, including PIE cache. 2 Put any apps you use a lot or especially that run continuously (don't forget services) on main memory. 3 Do not put Finger Keyboard on your card, lol. The instructions tell you not to, but this is not a challengr to do it anyway. Guaranteed corruption. Trust me, I did it cuz I'm an idiot. 4 If you use a disk scanner/repairer, and it finds problems, don't just delete the recovered (and messed up files). Open them with notepad, and see what they are. This will give you an idea of the corruption source.
My notebook is not picking up the sd card with adapter? I have a slot on my notebook, I thought it was bad contact, cleaned it and still nothing? WTF!!
timmymarsh: This is a subjective topic in terms of SD card, I looked and everybody recommended Transcend, its even on a list of recommended cards by TMobile?? I guess I'll find out? Do you have a recommendation?
FarmerTed: Flash format say nothing about being compatible for android os? I don't know if it will work?
why dont you just put the sd card into you phone. mount the sd card via usb and format it from there?
I tried that, but my notebook says theres nothing? I also tried just installing the new card and trying to format it with the phone. I formated the card, but it said the card is damaged and it wont do anything? So either the card is just not getting recognized or it is bad? I'll keep tinkering with, if it doesnt work, I'll send it back to newegg.

Oops, sorry, didn't realize you were on android. All I can suggest is searching for a similar app that runs on android, or maybe looking for undelete programs for your desktop. There's probably something out there that will fix your card.

[Q] help!

i got a replacement xoom and when i tried putting in a memory card in it, the memory card would get stuck. i managed to get it in but now it gets super hot when its plugged in the xoom. any reasons why?
I would remove it very carefully but it sounds like something is wrong. One of the metal prongs/leads/whatever on the card may have gotten skewed and could be causing mischief.
actually i think its the memory card cuz i put another one in and that one works and doesnt get hot. by the way the memory card i tried first i had it in my evo and then a few days back i had a notification saying blank SD card, do you think thats the problem?

it sounds like your memory card has either gone corrupt or is trying to. I would suggest backing up your data on that card. I say this because the memory card that I have for my Droid 2 started doing that as well as *uninstalling* all my apps that I placed on the SD card (saying that the files were never there and such, but when placed on my Windows 7 computer, it would be there,) and then would bog my phone down while trying to read the card. I tested to make sure it was not the phone itself (which it would have sucked!) and the same thing happened in two other android phones, proving it was the SD CARD because other (as well as newer too) SDCARDS I had laying around and none of them had this trouble. Even a SD Card testing APP on the market said "Uh yeah... it's dying!"
Because Android is on a linux flavor, it likes to KNOW EVERYTHING on the card or it just does not care for it and then treats it like a blank card. I would suggest that if you want to try and salvage the card, do a quick format AND I WANT TO MAKE THIS CLEAR: to the same file allocation system (aka Fat16 to fat 16, Fat 32 to fat 32, NTFS to NTFS. DO NOT CHANGE THIS unless you know what you are doing!) Also note DO NOT do a full format because this will write to every sector of the SD Card, and that is really really bad for the SD card as well as any flash memory...
A quick format just goes over the file allocation tables (a table that stores information for where the information is located on the card) and then try it again. If problem persists, call manufacturer of the card or where you got the card originally (evo = call htc, droid 2 = call motorola, ETC) and see if it is still under warranty.
Good Luck and I hope I helped you out some

[Q] 8gb Micro SD card not recognized

Hello. Recently just got a 8gb class 6 micro sd card for my HTC Desire (CDMA). When I put the card it it's not being picked up by the phone. Not giving me any kind of error message in the notification bar, just acts like no SD card is installed. My previous card was an 8gb class 2 card that came with the phone, so I know it can do high capacity. Threw the card in a card reader and re-formatted it FAT32, still nothing. Tried putting the card in a friends Samsung Galaxy and it picked up fine. Also my old card still works when I put it back in the phone, so I'm truly stumped here. The phone is rooted but Im not running any custom roms..
Well i think the problem in in your phone. Maby some dust on those golden pins or something you cound try another card to check if its the card or phone itself.

My old card works fine in my phone, and the new card worked in a friends phone, and on my PC. Tried re-formatting (FAT32 and FAText) and naming the volume. For some reason my phone just won't pick it up. No error messages or anything, just acts like there is no micro sd card in it.
