I'm confused with the mass of information and complicated procedures I found here. :?
I got a HTC Magician here in Switzerland by Orange (known as SPV M500)
Operator version is: 6.06.5.164
ROM version: 1.06.00 WWE
Radio Version: 1.05.10
Protocol version 1337.39
ExtROM version: 1.06.164 WWE
I surely would like to improve the performance and especially the internal' memory by applying some upgrade.
Could a nice person guide me toward best possible solutions, please?

Thanks; I checked this link, but except some valuable information, I found the whole thing even more tough to understand. I'm not an engineer, I'm just looking for a helping hand.
So I reiterate. Can anyone answer my question?
I'll have a go:
Upgrade your ROM. Yours is about 1.06, current is 1.12 (or 1.13? Not much differnce).
Ensure there is a language version the same as yours, and then upgrade. That's a complicated enough procedure, but follow the instructions carefully provided with the ROMs and you'll be ok.
The upgrade for more memory, is the BigStorage ROM hack. This will replace the area on your phone known as "Extended Memory", and convert it into more useful "Storage" that you can use. Basically, your phone gains 20mb of usable space. I've written an ENORMOUS post about this here (near the bottom of the screen)
To do BigStorage, you should use a tool floating around on the board that will patch ANY rom to BigStorage. That way, you can hack your own ROM for this. This is important because the first 400bytes or so of your ROM are unique to you, and you want to keep that. So I recommend:
1. Backup your PPC with Sprite backup or similar.
2. Upgrade your ROM to 1.12 (public sources or from the XDA Developers FTP site).
3. Make a backup of your ROM (optional, but advised).
4. Apply the BigStorage ROM hack.
You may be able to skip 4 if you can find the ROM you want at (2) already hacked. This is likely. But whatever you do, follow the instructions provided carefully. There are a couple of errors that are SUPPOSED to come up in the procedure. Read the instructions and you'll know what's supposed to happen.
Phew. It takes some learning, but you'll get there.

You're great, many many thanks!! I assume I got a tough way to go. So I'll do it slowly so as to avoid mistakes.
My device' language is English, so no prob to upgrade with English. Now I guess I'll have to install manually the GPRS and WAP' parameters after upgrading, given the ROM does not come from my operator, isnt'it?
Orange M500 Upgrade
Hello. I too am thinking about upgrading my Orange M500 from 1.06.00 to the latest ROM. I have an Orange UK version of the phone. But 2 problems:
1. I have trawled all sites I can think of (including this one) and can't find an appropriate upgrade file anywhere - is anyone able to post a link?
2. I can't find anywhere that tells me what the advantages of upgrading are! Anyone fancy listing them?

Same here, I could not find information on what is improved (or not) with any of the existing ROM upgrades.
Surely they must be UP, but still it's strange there's no comment.

I have wanted to try the bigstorage rom but in reading all the posts and helpers I feel it is too much for me to copy to SD and yada yada yada. Am I understanding you correctly in assuming that in the xda FTP I would find a pre made bigstorage rom that I could upgrade onto my unit. I understand that I would probably have to re upgrade my radio unless there was a BS rom that had the latest radio in it. Would I be able to ask you that if I am right in assuming this do you know which of the roms I would use in the FTP site to give me that pre made BSrom and which "make" would or should I use(such as O2, orange) I line in Victoria, BC, Canada but I dont think that affects what "make" I should use, or does it? Sorry this is so long winded and I thank you in advance for your help.

The method is simple:
1.Download the AKU3.2 rom for wizzard.
2.follow the instrucion in this topic:

to create a rom for prophet.
BUT! create rom only from OS! DONT USE SPL or anything else from rom.
see picture what use and write in nb2nbf.exe!!!
3.and install the nk.nbf to the phone.
Need spl 2.xx!!!
the problems:
-camera doesnt work, because its for wizzard. it seems the other drivers works fine (tested wifi, ir, bt, gprs/edge)
-the left and the right softkey works inverse.
How about A2DP?
AKU 3.2 may contain A2DP. Have you had a chance to try this?

sorry. no A2DP. but in wizzard topic the guy who released this rom said they planning a small update with A2DP soon.
and also it should support WPA2... but just don't :'(
the only two feature I miss on my s200
I neeeeeeeeeeeeeeed WPA2 support in anyway!! if somebody knows how to do it.... I've already tried odyssey client but it doesn't seems to work with the s200... not there version one there website thow... :'(

Could you work out a full functional AKU 3.2 ROM for prophet? It would be nice also to include A2DP support.
It has been a long time, but no update for prophet, while the wizard got a lot ROM update. Why? :evil:
I tried to fixed bugs, but I cant yet. I have the tools and know the metods, but when I tried to change keyboard driver, after flash the buttons doesnt work. i will post here if I made progress.
does anyone know if an official AKU update for the prophet is on its way i.e for the JAMin?

I've been trying with bepe's guidance to build a prophet rom since a few days. He has sent me all files needed to build the rom but I am not succeeding. The prolem is that bepe is on vacation. If you or anyone else wants me to share the files, please inform me. More minds are always better.
I believe bepe would have no problem if I share the archives.

Please share with me the files. I really intrestied to creat a fully working rom for prophet v aku3.2, but I have problems with keyboard driver. I put into my contact in ICQ bepe but he1s always offline, so I cant ask helping from him. so we need to work together to creat the rom. more minds creat more better things.
oh, And I think the problem is the imgfs tools is for win mobile os 5.0 but prphet have os 5.1 so the sytem is not compatible perfect. so that's why I cant change some files in wizzard rom to work on prophet.
It is so nice to see more and more brave and professional guys are getting involved in this project. Unfortuanately, I am still a newbie. So, I would just cross my fingers for you guys! Hope we can see the full functional AKU 3.2 ROM for prophet some day soon.

Just wanted to let you know that I'm willing to test the ROM too (if you're sure it won't brick my Prophet, of course!).
I'll try to follow the instructions up above to built the "imperfect" ROM, hope it will solve my WIFI-issue..

it seems it's far the normally working ROM. there is some problem to work together the prophet OEM part and the aku 3.2 files. The problem is big, because with AKU3.2 the prophet OEM files dont want to boot. It stuck on splash screen.
I try to fix it with andrew_sh, but....
I've started work on building a clean Prophet AKU3.2 rom based on the lastest Wizard 3.2 rom.
I see people are having problems with the keyboard and camera drivers. Comparing the Wizard & Prophet files I see that the only file that needs changed is the camera driver (module) and by luck if you slot this from a prophet rom to the wizard rom it doesnt overlap any other memory addresses so I'm very hopeful this would work.
Can anyone give me further detail on the issues with the keyboard driver? Do no buttons on the prophet rom work when you use the wizard rom.
Anyway here are the steps I am going to use to create my rom.
1) Download the Wizard AKU3.2 Rom and take a dump of my current prophet rom.
2) Extract all files etc from the roms using the wm5 imgfs tools.
3) Import the prophet camera driver into the Wizard rom, thats the only module I'm going to change.
4) Make the rom clean (e.g. remove all 3rd party stuff)
5) Edit the default.hv entries comparing them to the Prophet default.hv making changed where needed (e.g. the shell button mappings)
6) Edit initflashfiles.dat, the prov xml files, and the other rgu files.
7) Build the rom.
8) Flash using aWizard tools.
As far as I can see all the registry entries between the 2 devices are near identical apart from the added entries for AKU3.2 and the camera driver.
Have anyone tried the same process above? Any pointers help would be welcome.

I am using ROM from PDAViet and have problem with BT, I send an message to the PDAViet forum , they can not answer my problem in right way, reply by a newbie.
I comfirm my problem again and mod delete my topic. If they can not explain and solve the problem in their cooked ROM ==> they dont have enought experience on cooking PDA ROM. Therefore, we should careful with their ROM because of their mod have no experience in PDA ROM
To xda-developer: PDAViet ROM missing the "Incomming Port" form the Bluetooth, so I can not recieve files transfer from BT. Are there any ideal to solve that problem??

First : The ROM is provided by free of charge and not official release for your PDA Phone, also mention that all risks because of it, it is not responsibled by the cooker. It is all the PDA's owner risk who want to try the ROM. with any new features
Second : Which ROM do you use from PDAVIET ? because i am using 4.0.0.0.5b cross without any problem in BT transfer file. you should pairing first than transfer the file.
Third : Please do not make any negative comment for any ROM (unofficial release) , you should be thankfull to the cooker who share his work for all of us with free of charge. If you do not like , just do no use it . it is so simple.

First of all, I agree with the remark above....
Second, just a thought... did you enable Incoming Beams? If not, no way a connection can be made. But that has always been the way, in every ROM WM5 and WM6, official and unofficial.

Since the text describing that tab was changed and doesn't mention it anymore, one can guess it has been moved to another place (and is managed another way). Maybe since WM6 ? Anyway, go and check the 'Beam' item in Connection settings, looks worthy.
im pretty new at all this but ive got a good grasp of PPCs but when i read through these threads i just cant make sense of some of it.
So, can someone explain (simply) which ROM should I download to upgrade my Universal from WM5 to WM6 and do I have to use that UniversalRUU program do it?

As to which version of wm6 should put, it depends on you.

I use the crossbow 2.12.08 version. Initially with radio 1.15 then upgraded to radio 1.18.
Reason is that roaming with radio 1.18 seems to be better. but so far is seems only more unstable.
However the Crossbow is very nice and I can not find any major problems.
Very satisfied and been using it for some months now.
The link is easily found on this forum and after the download you simply connect the pda to your computer, unzip the program on your computer and run the application.
the rest is easy. no big issues or special knowledge required.
note my pda already was unlocked
just give it a try !
or download some wm6 and wm5 versions and try each one.
the installation is easy and more or less the same. probably best start trying the wm5 and then move on to wm6

yesterday i installed xda_exec_upgrade 1.30.162..i think its wm5...it didnt installed on my uni n gave an error tat some kind of installation error in radio..then i installed ranju latest wm6.1..so now as from seein i now have the mixture of wm5 n wm6.1...while ranju had radio of 1.17.00 i think n my uni is showing a radio version-1.09.00...so do u know wat might be the problem..
please help me soon as my uni is lyin dead

have you installed the ranju v7.6? In that file don't is the file of the radio upgrade but only the rom upgrade, for this reason you have radio 1.09. You have to read the thread of ranju's rom becouse i've read that most people had problems with the upgrade and problems to return to other roms. I thing you have to ask there.
And you would have to specify the problem better. For example, the device is in bootloader? Have you try to reset?
