wm6 contacts and calendar problem - HTC Tornado

When i start contacs its just shows a little dot in the upper left corner and it doesn't start and the problem with calendar is, when i'm adding a meeting it just dont take it. I'm using phils wm6. Any ideas?

have you replaced the default pim.vol with WM5's pim.vol ? If yes, that's the problem

ok, yes i did replace it with a pim.vol from wm5. i didnt save the wm6 pim.vol so now i have to reinstall it then?

Most likely you need to hard reset the phone

if you have the contacts synchronized on pc or on the sim you may not hard reset. just rename the pim.vol to pim2.vol or whatever and reboot. a new pim.vol file will be created.
if you want to backup the whole information from pim.vol and use it on wm6, read this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=323136
i've been too in your situation. and after a while i've found a solution.. i've succesfully backed up on a c500 with wm5 and restored it on my wm6 c600 with that application. it may work also with wm5 emulator .

please save my contacts list..... please.....!!!!!

Hello,
I need a GREAT favor from someone.
I did the upgrade in my Qtek 2020 for the WM2005 and I have mine backup of contacts made with xbackup in the W2003SE.
What I want, is that someone that has the W2003/W2003SE loads my list of contact in its qtek and make a backup with activesync or with outlook of windows.
Only that way, I will be able to have my contacts in the WM2005 without needing to again make downgrade and upgrade to the ROM.
Who will have the pleasantness to make me this great favor, please indicate its address of email so that I can send the file of backup that I have made with xbackup of my list of contact.
Thanks,
Eng Ricardo Gomes
Hi
I have the same problem. I had the Windows Mobile 2003 SE and upgraded to Windows Mobile 5, i didnt realize the contact situation and didnt even dream activesync 4.1 would not have a backup /restore. I have the backup of my contacts in the following 2 formats
1. Xbackup - wont open says backup information error, in WM 5
2. Activesync - Do not know how to restore
Could some body guide me, i will be really grateful if i get out of this fix.
Thx in advance
Murali
Excuse me , but , i dont uderstand your problem ....
you have a device with wm2003 or wm2003se .... you synchronize it with your pc , and your contact list is savec in your pc's outlook software
you can upgrade your device to wm2005 and synchronize it with your pc .... active sync inject the outlook contact list on your ppc , that's all !!
TofClock is right ... it worked for me after good advice to this effect. Make sure you are using ActiveSynch 4.1 when you synchronize (with Outlook) your PC under WM2003SE, then sychronize back the other way once you have flashed WM5 into ROM.
xBackup
Of course TofClock is right about backing up from PC but the problem that savagemen is describing is different. In 2003 there was a feature called "xBackup" that allowed you to backup and restore 'All Data' or only 'Contacts and Appointments' drectly to/from the storage card. This meant that you didn't need the PC at all. The "xBackup" feature does not appear in the 2005 Program file as it did in 2003's. I was very used to this feature and am desperate to get it on my 2005 upraded sx66. Any ideas?

As written alot about in much threads and forums, the xbackup is not available for wm5.
So for as far as my humble knowledge go's, i'd do it with outlook as leading person to sync the old contacts to the new rom.
Most quickest i think, without any hassle about "what if" problems

We are all reading from the same page. Yep ... Xbackup is no longer needed (or works) with persistent storage. And yes, I quite understand that he wants someone else to put themselves out and load his contacts, calendar and so on. But why doesn't he simply flash back to WM2003 >>> backup with ActiveSynch 4.1 onto this PC >>> flash the ROM to WM5 again and then restore with ActiveSynch 4.1. Problem solved. :!:

contacts not working!

What's Up? Just have a quick question about going from wm5 to wm6. I had tried to transfer my contacts by just moving the pim file over like I have always done in the past. This time it just makes my screen crash on wm6 has anybody else had this problem?

The PIM files of WM5 and Wm6 are NOT compatible. YOu have to go the normal way - syncing. So hardreset - new partnership and active sync.
SOrry - only way - i guess.
ahhh alright thanks

Or... you can install PIM Backup on WM5, take a backup with it, then install WM6 and then run PIM Backup there to restore you contacts, addresses, SMS, phone log, etc... This works since it does not restore the actual PIM but uses a CSV (or similar) type file to backup and restore from. Very handy for moving between versions and roms.
nice moved everything right over. thanks

where in the phone are the contact stored?

as the title states,
Where does a ppc running wm5 or 6 store the contacts?
my pc (with vista os) has stopped recognising all my ppcs and I want to send the contacts to a 'new' phone from my m3100 that has them all stored.....i just cant find where.
I copied the contact/lnk file but its a link file not the root folder where the files live.
any help is greatly appreciated

if i'm right, contacts are stored in the pim.vol file in the root of device. But do not expect miracles - pim databases from different versions of OS are not compatible! you may be lucky, but regullary it does not work. and you cannot simply rewrite pim db...
best way is to export contacts to completely different format (you will easily find some tool) an then import it back to new device using the same tool.
your vista may be cured by manually downloading wmdc and reinstalling it - i have already seen similar issue. or you can install xp to a virtual machine and connect device to virtualized xp...
nocturne is correct. Contacts and appointments and some other outlook stuff (not email) are kept in PIM.vol and it is different even between AKU versions.
You can overwrite PIM.vol once however, but if the file is of incorrect format your contacts app will fail to work. to fix this rename pim.vol to something else (like pim1.vol) then reset.
At this point a new empty correct pim.vol will be automatically created.
From what I read around the forum pim.vol from higher AKU versions (3 and up at least) is compatible with WM 6.

Pim.vol woes

I tried to update 2.23 RWE to 2.27 RWE (WM6) without using Outlook (on a side note, does anyone know a good alternative?) so I copied pim.vol to my PC as well as the SD card.
After the upgrade didn't work (both by SD flash and Desktop installer), the "upgrade" obviously erased pim.vol. I tried the old trick of renaming, copy and pasting... alas it didn't work.
Anyone have any idea as to what to do?
After an exhaustive googling, I'm still none the wiser. I'd be great if I could have the contacts (name, number, email, etc) exported out to a CSV. I found a parser written in perl, but it doesn't seem to like WM6's pim.vol
If anyone can save me from hours of editing a 4MB text file to CSV, please let me know!
Best solution to copy all PIM data between different versions is PIMBackup .
You can move all contacts, phone calls log and SMS's to new unit .

POOM - App to read EDB (pim.vol?)

Hey
does there exists a reader respectivle an interface to gain access to EDB database files from microsoft over POOM? For example I need to reveal hidden contacts from my pim.vol after deleting my PCs partnership in activesync.
I know that the contacts and numbers are saved in plain text in the pim.vol - so, It can not be that hard?
thanks
nicky
why dont you use PIMBackup by dotfred?
thanks...'caus I guess PimBackup just copy the pim.vol to another location, like SPB Backup it does. Yesterday I tried SPB Backup without success... thats the problem: I need a tool that can establish a "connection" to the pim.vol and not just copy it.

Wrong.
PIMBackup DOES establish a connection. Copying over the pim.vol hasn't worked since WM5.
ah yeah, ur right. I checked it out. PimBackup gives me an compressed archive with all my pim items in plain text... but unfortunately it does just backup of the visible items... of course it does...^^
I called on dotfred regarding this matter, hope he can help...
thanks anyway for your suggestion!
