I used a registry hack to delete the Outlook folder and I also deleted the Active Sync folder in the same registry. After rebooting the SMS text inbox notification no longer works. I've gone into the registry and reactivated the inbox received message notification & i have the the notification on in the Sounds section on the Settings menu in WM5. Do i need to flash back to the original settings and start from scratch or is there a tweak/setting that i'm missing?
Can't help you with the settings but a hardreset would do I suppose - no need to reflash.

I have been using this and it seems to work well... If it is already posted I apologize for posting it again.
Under HKCU/ControlPanel/Notifications find the following keys for Email and Text messages:
A877d65Axxxxxxx
A877d65Bxxxxxxx
Also find Key 15F11F90xxxx for reminders.
Copy the Options value from the Reminders key and overwrite the options value in both email and text message keys with this value
Once you do this, go to start - settings - sounds and notifications - notifications.
UNder events, select new email message OR new text message and you'll notice that th repeat option that was greyed out is now enabled and can be selected.
Cheers!
Since installing arcsoft mms on my 6800, the order of the menu is annoying. When in text messaging, {Menu/New Msg/} gives me video, mms, then sms. Is there a registry setting that will let me re-order these to put the SMS at the top?
for some reason my phone doesn't vibrate even though its set to vibrate as i recieve messages.
anyone have a clue ? and is there any notification software i can default to ?
No real answers here i'm afraid.... but you can try this:
1) i assume the vibrate works? when you get a call/txt etc?
2) Turn off the vibrate for e-mails, soft reset, then re-enable vibrate, then send yourself an e-mail and see.
3) If that doesnt work, try editing the registry for the notification (again, set it to not vibrate, reset, then change to vibrate and test)
finally, as i have disabled all notifications for e-mail (i manually check mine when required & dont need to to prompt me as i'd be looking at it!), i dont know if it will vibrate when you get a new e-mail if you already have unread e-mails.
Good luck!
try this, it worked for me
"With a registry editor go to
HKCU/ControlPanel/Notifications
Go through the keys till you find the one for the new email notifications, (look at each key and check the "Default" REG_SZ). You will see an Options DWORD with a number like 5362464 or something. Change the it to anything under 13 (mine is 5). Save and close then go to Sounds & Notifications to set how you want to be notified and it should work.
You can also delete the AvailableOptions dword to enable all options in the Sound & notification screen.
Please use at your own risk, this worked for me but may fail for you."
thanks for the feed back , im about to flash nrg's 52209 build and then try the registry because the first suggestion didn't work :[ thanks anyway !:]
For the life of me I can't figure out why I am getting two notifications for every SMS I receive. I have menu->settings->sound and display->notification ringtone set to Silent
I have Handcent SMS instaleld set to "Tweeters". When I get a SMS it plays "Ta Da" and then a second later plays "Tweeters".
When I turn Handcents SMS notification, I only get "Ta Da".
I uninstalled built in messaging with titanium backup hoping that might solve it, I have no other sms app installed that I know of. How can I turn this sound off? Getting two notifications for every SMS is driving me NUTS!
Peter
Not sure if you can undo this now that you uninstalled the built-in messaging. If you still had it you would just open the messaging app and click on the menu->settings and under Notification settings uncheck the Notifications option. Now it would seem that you are in a limbo state since you uninstalled the stock messaging app.
You might have to restore a backup or reflash the stock ROM using Odin3 to get it into a state where you can turn of the stock messaging notifications.
if you go into your messages. go back to the screen where you can see all your messages. Click menu, then settings, then look for notification settings.
Anyone have the messaging apk they don't mind sharing? Titanium backup won't seem to restore it. I'd rather not completely undo everything I've done to date.
Alternatively is there a config file somewhere that would keep this? In winmo there was a registry I could go clean manually if needed.
Peter
Not sure about the config file or the apk, but as for titanium it won't restore if you didn't back it up before you deleted it.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
U dont need to delete messaging app just open messaging app click on settings go to where is says auto retrieve and uncheck it. then go to handcent goto settings and make sure auto retreive is checked now only youll get one notification
zorphnog: I did a complete backup before deleting, titanium still won't restore it.
Anyone want to back theirs up and send me the file?
vinid: I understood exactly what you said, however I had already deleted messaging trying to get rid of the tone.
Now I am stuck with a phone that beeps twice. I can't imagined that there isn't a file somewhere that can be edited to remove this notification.
Peter
I rooted my Verizon SGS3 a few days ago. Before rooting, I remember it was bugging me that it wouldn't vibrate for incoming txt msgs, whether in normal, vibe mode or silent mode. Then I found out I had to go to the messaging app settings, and under "Notifications" on the bottom there was an option to enable vibration for messages, "always", "only on silent" and "never". After I rooted, I never checked that again since it worked fine and I had vibration notification for messages. After root though, I did a few other things, among those disabled constant wifi notification with SQLite, turned of the wifi pop-up, installed volume+ to increase volume (which also added "music effects" under sound settings), and patched "audio_effects" (/system/etc) from inside root tools in volume+ (didn't backup original audio_effects file though).
Anyway, I just went back into messaging settings to change something else, and noticed under "Notifications" in the stock messaging app, there is no longer any option to change vibration settings. Is that something that is missing because of something different in the root /system partition (I used a fully STOCK root image by the way, then removed things on my own), or is it because of something I did after rooting? I just never checked under messaging settings immediately after root, so I don't know what exactly caused it.
If anyone has a stock rooted, or stock unrooted Verizon SGS3, please go to the main page in messaging, hit the menu button and go to settings, scroll all the way down, and post here what "Notification" options you have. I only have "Notification" with a checkmark, and "Select ringtone", I know there were more options before. If somehow I'm mistaking, would the vibration notification option for messaging be somewhere else?
Thank you
I have it in the Messaging settings page under Notifications "Vibrate". Make sure that you are in the messages list window where it shows all of your messages, and not viewing an individual thread.
Yes, I am in the main messaging window that shows a list of threads, not in any specific thread. That's the only window that gives you the "Settings" option with the menu button. I knew it used to be there.
So you have 3 options: "Notification", "Ringtone" and "Vibration"?
I just went back to the original Nandroid backup I made immediately after root, and vibrations is not available there either, so rooting must have somehow removed that option from settings.
Are you rooted or stock unrooted?
Thank you
