question about switching storage card

Hi, guys
This is a great forum, and I learnd a lot of stuff on this site. Thanks for all your hard work.
I'm a new user of windows mobile and I'm currently with an o2 orbit 2. I have 3 1G cards separately stored applications & co-pilot, music and movies. The question is how i can switch between different storage cards without harming my device. Do i have to switch the device off to change the card, are there any implications for doing that? Cheers.

The Cruise/Polaris's storage card is supposed to be hot-swappable, per HTC the manufacturer. With the price of storage cards going down every day, have you considered buying an 8gb card? I bought one for about $70 with my new Cruise, and now I see them on ebay for $55-60. Good luck...
You can "hot-swap" the µSD card of the o2 Orbit2 (I do ), and, of course, also of the TC.
I bought a 8GB Class 4(!) µSDHC card on ebay.de for 39,95€ (+postal charges)
EDIT: Here: http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130194411701
thank you for your reply.
I'll use hot-swap for now. And buy a 8G card in a few days.
anything I should be aware of when buying the 8G card?

Personally, I prefer SanDISK brand...
If anyone's interested, I saw an online article somewhere, that stated that sandisk and toshiba both had 16gb microsd cards starting up production, and toshiba actually had found a way to cram 32gb on a card, but sandisk was still working on it. bet we'll all have 32gb cards by next Christmas... Man, back in the early 80's when I had my Atari 800XL, if you'd have told me I'd have 32gb on a portable phone, I'd have laughed at you... heheheee
Seriously. I remember I had a 20 MB hard drive on a 8088/86 computer. That thing was huge and weighed a ton. Now we can have 32 GB on something smaller than my fingernail.
Yeah I have an 8 GB card from amazon for about $60 if i recall correctly. They're definitely worth it.
if you want to use your sd card as some kind of "ram-extender" you may try to get a fast one.
I eg install all programs on my card to have as much ram free as possible, there for I bought the fastest I found.
aleph305, do you notice any difference in speed - can the Polaris take advantage of a faster card? (Perhaps there is a maxspeed)
first : sry 4 the delay.
..
and now. number three, the larch ...
no ... ehm
I guess so.
on a magician I installed pocketplus on the card (noname 2gb @ approx. 12r/5-9w mb/s) and the today screen becomes unusable.
then bought a panasonic 2gb 150X (approx 20-22r/14-18w mb/s) and pocket plus runs like it where at the ram.
Therefore I can confirm that the magician will and Im pretty sure every device will when you use the card as "ram".
ps
- you have never enough ram
- your ram is never fast enough

16 gb microSDHC compatible?

Hey board.
Sandisk just released a new Micro Secure Digital High Capacity 16 gigabyte card!!!
it goes for between $70-$110 bucks. You can order it online right now.
So, will this be compatible with all the ROM's available?! Has anyone testing?!
I have a 4gb MicroSDHC card that works fine with aout 80-90% of the roms out there.
there are 6 and 8gb cards out there now also. they go for anything between $20-
$60 bucks. So, I don't know. is it worth it?! has/can anyone do a price per mb comparison please?
All I know, is that i want bragging rights against my boss who bought the iphone.
"nanny nanny phoo phoo. you got a 16bg ipwn for an insane amount and i paid $75 bucks for a 16gb microsd card. my htc kaiser isn't looking so bad now is it?! OH YEA. did i mention that i can sync tasks, copy and paste, and type about 20-30 words per min on the SLIDE OUT FULL QWERTY KEYBOARD!!"

Compatible 16Gig micro SDHC for CDMA TP2

Wow! We now have a Rhodium CDMA thread!!
Just a post to let those who purchase a CDMA/GSM TP2 that I am using a 16Gig RiData Class 6 card purchased from Newegg for $50 about a week and a half ago with no issues.
I do recall a post for GSM versions that Transcend branded memory did not work.
Please post your results for those who are looking to purchase higher capacity memory.
J
look at rom development
I don't have a 16GB Transcend but I bought an 8GB one off of eBay for pretty cheap and it works well with my Telus TP2.
16gb duracell, working well.
Class 7 ?
Hi,
I just bought an PNY 8G premium micro sd
Read: 15 MB/s
Write: 7 MB/s
Capacity: 8 GB
Trans speed: 15 MB/s
I think it has the best performance you can get at the moment. If i'm wrong please tell me wich one is better in speed and quality (besides its capacity of course).
I have a 16GB kingston bought off E-Bay ... working flawlessly, it's only class 2 I believe, but I notice no lag when loading up or transferring apps.

When comparing prices, please make sure to note the speed class also. This is talked about in another thread somewhere, but basically there are class 2, 4, 6 and coming eventually 10. Class 2 is the slowest, but also the least expensive. The speed is supposedly important when transferring data back and forth from the micro SD card to the PC or phone, accessing data stored on the card from a program running on the phone, and when using programs that are stored on the card. I don't have anything to compare what that means in real life terms, people with Class 2 don't seem to have any complaints, but I'd imagine watching a movie stored on the card would be the true test, and that may be answered in another thread.
I happen to have a Transcend 8gb Class 6, which is working great.
16 GB?
Not to be an @ss, but more importantly, what do you need 16 GB for?
I have a 4 GB with TomTom maps taking up half and I can't imagine filling the rest of it with pictures or video. Just curious what people actually use the capacity on a phone for, other than to say they have it...
I would assume most want it for video and music. Ipods come in MINIMUM 4GB these days.

True, I guess I don't use my phone for entertainment too much, mostly work. So I never think to use it for a music or video player.

where to buy 16GB micro sdhc class 6 from?

amazon is too annoying, brings up anything and everything, don't trust ebay
mymemory has class 2 or class 10 for £80+
help
NM, found a thread on this forum and got one ordered. yay!
from? link?
Bought all my SD Cards from these guys http://www.mobymemory.com/micro-SD.asp
this thread isnt in the wrong section at all.............
Can I ask why people care about the class? I've just got a class 2 32gb card from Vodafone for £89. I've not noticed any problems or slowdown taking pictures or playing media...which are the only things my card is used for. Transfers are no slower than any other device I connect via USB.
What's the big fuss?
it's for running apps from in the (hopefully) near future.
class 6 means (i think) a minimum 6Mb/sec transfer rate
oh, got it from memory cow
Yes, but most people have suggested they see no difference when using apps2sd with the "slower" cards. It seems there's a lot of assumptions being made leading to actual sales decisions where it may not be needed.
See this fellow who thought a faster card would solve his issues: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=708859
So where is no differences between class 2 and class 6 ?
Because i have dilemma now, i want to buy some high capacity microSD card, and if i take 32GB it will be class 2, and if i take at same cost 16GB card it will be class 6.
And does any body try to buy 32GB card from Ebay ? ( i am worrying that 32GB is not GB, its Gb, and that means just 4GB )
Thanks for help
i woul;dn't trust the cards off ebay tbh
I went ahead and bought the Transcend 16gb class 6 card through OFFTEK. It arrived with the adaptor, and was very prompt.
http://www.offtek.co.uk/item_detail....at=1&subcat=74
Pretty good price too. I just copied everything to my desktop, swapped cards and copied back.
The new card works great, but i did notice that the full card size is stated as "14.96gb" on the phone, rather than 16.
I also wonder if there is a difrence between a class 2 or class 6 card when playing movies, apps or taking pictures on your SD card.
because that would make the difrence between going for a 32gb or 16gb card.
well, i noticed a difference when copying files. both cards broke 10MB/sec on large files, but the old card dropped damn quick when copying loads of small files - e.g photos.
i'd imagine it would be like this when looking through an album or flicking from one image to the next. it's not about the max speed, but the minimum.
hi mate,
what do you think about this one

right it is not a micro-sd, I have see bad
THE CLASS OF AN SD CARD IS TO DO WITH ITS WRITE SPEED NOT ITS READ SPEED, YOU WONT NOTICE ANY DIFFENCE WHEN READING FROM IT

Perfectly normal not to get the quoted capacity, combination of space lost due to formatting and the tendency of hardware producers to size storage media in decimal (ie. 16 000 000 000 bytes) rather than the binary equivalent - which the OS displays (16 x 1024 x 1024 x 1024 bytes).
I've confused myself with that statement - in short the hardware manufaturers use a commonly accepted, flattering but actually incorrect notation to lead you to believe that you are getting more for your money - HTH
Kingston make a 16gb class10, but it's pretty expensive (~100€)

Oh, and by the way, up to what class num can the Desire actually handle ?
I picked up my SanDisk 16GB Class 6 from the Carphonewarehouse when i went and got my Desire,,, i beleive it was £42
IMO i have always used Class 6 cards, i think they are the business, i dont care for read and write speeds i just need something that works and is reliable, SanDisk have always had my back so there ya go

32 or 64gb?

Hi.. is it worth it to buy 64gb version of Surface? Isnt 32 sufficient? post your experience, please
I bought 32 GB and then 64 GB microSDXC from eBay for $17. The 32 GB version is quite soon down to less than 10 GB free, but for me it might have been enough so the SD is just to be safe (and as it was so really cheap).

i might sound like a retard but what about room for apps, win swap and such.. if its only 18 gigs.. and like 5 gigs are needed for windows to run smooth.. not actually a lot of space im asking because somebody complained about IE 10 being laggy because of that (possibly)
I bought the 64GB version and put in a 64GB MicroSD card for an extra $50 just in case. Oh and I also bought the Type keyboard instead of the Touch, Now I am in love with this setup!
Yes it is that much of a difference. After a while of typing on the touch your fingers start to hurt because you end up hitting the keys harder for some reason.
Troll on 12!
i went with 32GB and the black touch cover. because i am not planning to store
a ton of Music/Video on my surface. but if i ever get the Need to, i will just use a 64gb sdxc Card which i will order next week. hopefully my surface is arriving then too
p.s. i hate This german autocorrect, wtf
