Are the touch cube, scrolling, today plugin actually useful? - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario ROM Development

Just interested in finding out how many people are using them just to show off, or if people are actually finding use for them?
These are my observations:
Cube- hard to master getting it to flip out with the finger, and sometimes gives a lot of false positives. And using it after pressing the softkey takes too long, I would rather use HButton or some other launcher.
Scrolling- again this is hard to master.. sometimes it would scroll up when i'm actually flicking downwards... works surprisingly well at times and i found myself flicking the screen on non-touch ROMs.
Today plugin- this is ofcourse useful. But it takes too much space, and i couldn't embed it within a tab in spb diary. Also, in landscape mode its too big and leaves very little room for other plugins.

i think the cube is a POS. i've never actually used it as its much easier to do the task without messing around with it. the today plugin gives pretty much all the functionality of the cube without having to flick up left and right. the only time i've used it is to show other people how much the iPhone sucks.
and i think scrolling is very helpful. makes one handed use even easier if used with smartskey. anything possible to not use the stylus is a huge time saver.

1. Cube - dont use it much - or maybe just to fidget around...
2. Scrolling - can't live without it now - takes a little while to master it, but have stopped using the scroll bars mostly now that i can flick and scroll.
3. Home Plugin - do use it quite a bit, mostly for shortcuts to programs, photo dialling, weather.

Is there a cab which just installs the scrolling on any wm6 rom? Installing the htc home plugin slows down the device if its not built into the rom..

Nah its a Pose... OK but thats the cube only.
The Today screen is ok, especially if you use ur fingernail.
Great to show off and then tell ppl that its running a 2 year old phone,
and then iMention that iMac's iPhone is a iCon and no big deal.(Ummm actually iPhone Sux but their Media side and Batt life is sweet.)
And to wait for iPhone 2.0.0.666.
Let the .666 flame war begin. ;D

sometimes i end up playing around with the cube cause i admire how cool it is, although it's a little slow. I mostly use the top 9. I got too many contacts to scroll and I don't go on web much.

Can't live with out the touch scrolling and today plugin, but you need little mastering, but it's not a big deal.

Cube is pretty useless to me. I built a ROM without it, but with the touch scrolling and Home plugin. Trying to rebuild another ROM without it also. I don't use it and would rather use the space for Voice Command.

Currently rocking nbd 8.3. Can't live without the scroll and home screen but the cube is a novelty that quickly wears off, IMHO.
Would love to see a ROM with touch scroll and HTC home but without cube and missed calls bug. Any chefs out there listening?

You can try NBD 7.9 and just reassign the left softkey and you will have it

Almost, unless I'm mistaken all NBD ROMs (and most WM6 ROMs in general) have the missed calls bug. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

No problem of missed calls in NBD 8.3
I personally couldn't do withouth the HTC Home and the finger scrolling.
As many here, the cube is really beautiful to see in motion, but quite useless...

NBD 7.x does not have the 1,2 sec missed call bug.

Hi guys,
I agree with everyone... Htc home and touchflo rocks!!
The cube is a nice visual and for showing off, but not realy usefull.
Only if i havent set the IE launcher on the home plug i use the cube to launch it.

Really? I'm talking about the problem where the GPRS is connected and an incoming call that is not answered before the calling party hangs up does not register as a missed call. NBD 8.3 certainly does this, although I'm thinking of trying the 2.19 UK radio to see if that helps.

I use cube time to time, bt is very nice thing. iphone contacts are the best and i use them daily. No button activation is not for me.

I got the touch installed on my second MDA which I use just for GPS. It's good for showing off. No useful functionality.

What's this scrolling business? Are you guys talking about the volume side thing? Or is there another way?

where is this touch scrolling from? I've flashed a few touch roms in the past monthish but none with the ability to scroll with my finger outside of contacts

Changed my mind from an earlier post.
Touch scrolling is awesome. Now that there is a version of the Home plugin works on TMobile its great to get the weather. Also, now that the Cube can come up via a finger swipe, it is actually useful (not required). Also, changing the links on the app side of the cube is needed because most of the default ones are already mapped to a hardware button.

*The* TyTN v1605 problems post...

Hi all,
Figured I should start a post with problems (in the quest for solutions).
I have had my v1605 from Vodafon for 3 days now and have found a few problems already. I have a replacement coming on Tue so will see what is fixed...
So far:
- keyboard back lights not working, matters not if the sensor is active or not. Vodafone replacing the unit as a result.
- some keys on the far right seem unsensitive - I keep missing O, P and L from my typing. The keys do work though...maybe it is just me.
- screen alignment wanders and as such I usually need to re-align the screen once a day or more. Seems always to drift left and slight lower than I am pressing.
- today screen items are locked and 'vodafoned', very annoying as I cannot show task list, owner info or lock status on the today screen. I hard reset the unit and reset it before the customisation happened and voila - the usual today screen items were back - but as a result I lost the vodafone dialer skin and the 3G symbol. I presume someone can ROM-hack to get rid of this restriction and look forward to it In fact, it would be perfect if the ONLY Vodafone customisations were the dialler skin, 3G symbol and theme.
- If you have a password set and hard-reset the unit it crashes when you are prompted for the password. Soft resetting it then skips the vodafone customisation.
- left softkey set to phone instead of calendar and no way to change it.
- no easy way to access Vodafone Live!
- camera quality pretty poor for a 2MP, no where near as good as the K750i for example. However, the K750i on its first firmware was pretty aweful too!
- when plugged into USB on computer - if you turn it off (so as just to charge) it will turn itself back on again shortly and commence another sync.
Other than these niggles, of which the today screen is the biggest for me, I love the TyTN. By far the best PDA/Phone I have owned to date!
So - over to you guys, does your v1605 have these issues or others, or none????
Rich
My slide out keyboard down't click into place on the left side the way the right does (and also the way the wizard does). It may not be a problem now but in the future, it may begin to wear and then it might affect the function of the keys??
Are they just swapping a unit for you or exchanging the whole package? How will you know if you get a brand new set? When I switched mine on, the call timers showed outgoing 40 seconds and incoming 45 seconds. I'm not sure if this is vodafone testing the units or it's not new.
Am told I am getting a brand new unit - will check call timers as they *should* be 0-0.
Just had a play with mine and I only feel a click on the right side of the keyboard too. Feels nice and solid once it is out though - not like the xda-mini-s which feels flimsy in comparison.
R
I do not see the "E" icon even in EDGE enabled areas. I even tried the HTC Wizard icon hack hack with no success:
http://www.htcwizardweb.net/node/191
'E' appears on my v1605
3G is awesome.

Thats great! was a bit worried that mine was a faulty unit. It does feel solid when sliding. It was just the lack of the "click" that bugged me.
Anyone else who received their unit had timers showing calls made and received from it? Its probably vodafone testing it. The unit is too new for any refunds/refurbs to have been made.

My unit has this issue and I hope my next unit which is a brand new replacement that comes on Tuesday doesn't have this issue. My unit it is only the O that has problem which is getting better over time. I called them and they was more than happy to get a brand new unit to get sent out just want a perfect working one in my 14 day period so fingers crossed will keep you updated.

Do you also feel a click only on the right when you slide open the keyboard? Let us know how you get on with the new unit.
Don't feel no click at all. Will keep you all updated.
UPDATE:
New unit turned up - keyboard lights now work as expected.
Still only a right side click on the keybard - so it must just be the way it is.

Hope that helps - Rich
Hi guys
Peter .. the guy that got his VPA Compact III two days after me as sent it back on the 14 day returns .... He was concerned about stability. He's always struggled to come to terms with WM stability which I can understand ... so he's off back to palm and blackberry.
From my point of view - I've had one hang during operations which still worries me (I left it at the today screen fine ... and 30 mins later I noticed backlight was completely off and it was utterly un responsive - wouldn't respond to incoming calls). It also hangs occassionally of soft reset or power on (from a complete power off). It usually comes up fine on a subsequent soft reset.
I'm waiting for HTC to call me back so I can raise this as a call. It seems to happen regardless of today plugins being active (I disabled all) - I have also rebuilt with 4 phases of Sprite Backup to restore from - and the problem hasn't gone away.
I suspect it is firmware / software as opposed to hardware .... fingers crossed.
Aside from that I love it as a device .... I just wish one of you guys that has one will let me know if you have had any hangs at all and where you see them.
My keyboard light works fine. It has to be in low light and you have to press a button before it activates - just opening the keyboard in low light doesn't activate it.
Occasionally I turn the device on and it starts in landscape mode and then switches to portrait ... odd .. because I didn't switch it off in landscape.
There is an odd moulding mark where the stylus comes out on the curved recessed part of the body (right hand side). I thought it may be a crack but I'm pretty sure it's just where the plastic moulding was finished before painting. If it's not cracked I'm not bothered.
You can change the WM5 softkeys with Tweaks2k2.
One thing to remember is that rather than use the phone executable, the device originally used a :MSC call. Once removed you can't put it back with Tweaks2k2. It's not an issue because a normal link to phone is fine. If you want Calendar ... then use Tweaks2k2 to change it.
My keyboard works fine ... no sticky keys. Peter had one or two on his.
Paul.

Hi Rich
What are you running at the moment ?
I'm try to find out what is different between my build and yours so I can narrow down possible cause of hang.
Paul.
By the way ... my build is :
So far I have SBSH iLauncher, HandyMenu, HandSwitcher, Legato Mahjong, Billiard Master 3, Bubbleshooter, PDA Mill GameBox Classics, BeJewelled 2, 1-Calc, Phatnotes, PIEPlus, Avantgo, CO2005, Clearvue Office Pro, CPL6, FW2006, imov Messenger, NewsBreak, Resco Explorer (without the Resco Today Plugin) 5.40, Resco PhotoViewer, SBSH Pocket Breeze and Pocket Weather, Skype 2, Sprite 5.1, Tweaks2k2, PI2005, FlexMail 2.2, FlexWallet, Cabinstall, Cruxview - all installed on the MicroSD.
Aside from an apparent hang on startup last night which scared me .... I thought I'd need to hard reset but it eventually sorted itself out ... hopefully it is s/w related .... it's all going well. Did a video call with Peter last night which was fine ... first I've done and picture quality not great but usable.
3G is active and working very well. Switches mid call to 2.5g if signal drops to much, but you don't get a chattering issue (i.e. where it regularly switches between the two).
Drove from Hook to Kent with CPL6 and BT GPS yesterday and that was flawless.
Have four phases of Sprite Backup - Different levels of build - so I can decide how far back to go in the event of problems.
Circa 28 mg of program memory following sof reset
Circa 31 mg of storage memory
PB is loading PI Calendar / Tasks / Messaging / Phatnotes / Pocket Weather.
Can someone help me with my wifi problem please. I can get connected to my network ok but IE will not show any pages, it just says wrong settings. I am connected with good signal strengh and thought that i would be able to surf when on my own home network. Most of the time it serches gprs and 3g then shows the error. An idiots step through guide would be helpful. I have searched for hours but came up blank. I also need a walkthrough on how to configue vodafone MMS settings as I cant get that to work either. Customer services isnt much good as the dont really know this device yet. Thanks in advance.
Hey Paul,
I have only the followinig intalled over the base v1605:
skype2
PHM Registry Editor
Microsoft .NET CF 2.0
Aspecto Software WiFiFoFum
Handmark Monopoly
That's it......
Rich
new unit arrived and the sticking key issue is gone thank god. I hve a few things installed now and the phone is running great. I installed agile messenger beta a few minutes ago as no msn client is in the vodaphone rom and the phone looked like it crashed then a few moments later it signed into msn.
1 thing I have noticed is if I mute the volume so I get a x sign near the volune if I click around I.e start menu and click around the operating system I can hear a clicking noise. could someone else test this 4 me I am currently in a quiet room.
also noticed when using pie with keyboard slid out my view will sometimes change from landscape to portrait view and then back to normal which is strange. I am sure my faulty device did this whilst just using the operating system in general use. shed a bit of light to what I have just found is that I just put the phone down open on the case it comes with and the same thing happened it must have something to do with the magnetic metal in the case effecting the phone causing it to rotate lol well that's what I think.
No clicking sound when I mute mine. Haven't really played around with mine yet. Will install everything once I get my microsd card.
Does your phone's keyboard click into place when you slide it open and is it right side only or both? Also did you check your call timers? Are they zero or has calls been made before receiving it?
Just got my TyTN
and all i got was a lousy keyboard..
got the bad keys on my unit. Waiting for response from HTC distributor, but they halted all sales of it until resolved. There are a lot of phones with bad keyboard.
But apart from that it seems to work fine - like the Jasjar in a smaller package.
But I liked the keyboard on my I-mate k-jam a lot better.
My first one had a few keys that weren't great, t, del and spacebar. This one is good for the keyboard. But....my screen is loosing calibration all the time again which is why I was given a replacement. Moves so that it is totaly unusable! Is anyone else experiencing it? If you are not is it a Voadafone one or something else. I've told Vodafone that I'd like another one out of a different batch and they said that they will extend my exchange period for a couple of weeks until some new ones come in. Might call HTC to see if it is a known "feature". Other than that I'm still totally happy with the device and it is much better at memory handling thn the Exec ever was, It never seems to drop below 22mb of program memory after having opened and closed programs for a clouple of days. The exec would have dropped to 17 by the end of the first.

Touch Pro in landscape

Hello Touch Pro owners,
I'm sure this question has been asked, and I'm sorry if it has, but...
one of the things that drives me crazy with the Hermes is the glitchy landscape view. Sometimes while in landscape, it decides to switch back to portrait, and sometimes doesn't go into landscape at all. If you were a Hermes user, you know what i'm talking about. I was hoping 6.1 would fix that, but is hasn't.
Do any of you have issues with the Touch Pro?
I surely didn't, when the keyboard was open it went to landscape and stayed there, and when it slid closed it popped back to portrait and stayed there as well. Same for applications, turn the device sideways it flips, turn it back it flips back.. Not 1 issue.

Actually, I don't; I'm still using my 8525, waiting for the "Fuze," and I don't recall ever seeing anything like that in the 19 months I've had it. I think you have a bum unit.
Have you applied new themes and customization tools (like Diamond Config)? Mine was perfect until I started applying a lot of the themes and tweaks. Now I'm having that issue. I plan on loading a cooked ROM once my travel is done. In the mean time, I have found it easier to use the virtual keyboard.
Don't think it's a bum unit, I've had a few and it's the same. I think it's most likely the shells I load. (spb and now the TF2d). I usually don't tweak and never OC the unit. But I do occassionaly load a cooked Rom, and I see the same things.
For example: I'll be emailing or texting in landscape, if I get any kind of alert, it switches to portrait and sticks there until I close it then open it again.
It's not a big deal, I've been dealing with it for awhile and still love the 8525, but Im upgrading to the Pro in a few weeks and I'm hoping I wont see this. I just expect the unit to be locked in landscape when the keyboard is pulled out no matter what shell I'm using, especially tf2d or 3d.

Happy with my HTC TP/Raphael!

Hi Guys,
I now own a HTC TP/Raphael for two weeks and am extraordinarely happy with it! I waited about 1.5 years to finally find a machine that mets all my needs and wishes.
I want to thanks all you guys, because I read this forum months before I finally bought the thing and was very pleased with all the info, pro and con, you all posted!
I bought mine in Holland with Tomtom v7 bundled.
Common problems I faced and how I solved them:
1) Problem: Slow GPS Fix (10 min). Solution: Found Quick GPS pre installed on my device, ran it and have a fix now within a cool minute.
2) Problem: HTC picks up or cancels incoming call in trousers pocket. Solution: Installed AnswerDisabler 0.5.1 Thanks to the programmer! It works a treat!
So now I can clear my jacket pockets of the weight of a huge HP iPAQ 4700HX and my compact camera Canon IXUS 850. (The latter I still take with me on occasion, but for the odd picture opportunity, the HTC suffices.)
I'm wowing my friends on a regular basis with this device, showing of the nice TF3D interface and G sensor app's.
Okay, I might still have a small inconvenience left, but I will post that in a separate thread.
Thanks again and keep up all the good work!
Emiel Ratelband?
I too am a happy customer with my Touch Pro.
I faced a few slightly different inconveniences:
1. The Web Browser tab in the TouchFlo does not display the graphics. This is the screen where the YouTube icon. I've update the graphics with GIF files of a few of my more common websites and reduced the size of the images. Works after a power down but not after a reset.
2. Battery performance is still not as good as I was hoping but definitely better then my Dopod C730. I've already done the performance tweaks and this has indeed improved the battery performance. I use the device with push mail for my office email. I also enable 3G and disable Bluetooth.
3. Screen brightness under direct sunlight is bad. Can't do much about that one.
4. The TouchFlo sometimes "hang" with a black screen or frozen home screen. Haven't figured out why yet.
Other than that, I love my new toy.
I am another happy customer and the issue of the battery I dont have actually... I am in Hong Kong and bot the TP at the sole authorized retailer and not a parallel import so therefore my TP is branded which is a pain in the butt. I don’t want to flash the ROM as I’m a newbi at WM stuff so if I screw anything up, I’m dead. Also I don’t know how to get into the registry even if I install Total Commander and stuff… but back to your question….
My beef:
1) I don’t use the TP 3D and I use the standard WM screen. However, ONLY the browser Opera has the auto rotate function unless I slide out the key pad…. How annoying is that? I have found a forced rotate application which is SPB Phone Suite but I don’t want to use this as out of this entire program I only want is the force rotation function… so I’m still searching if there is a app to just force rotate the screen.
3. You can actually, if it is on auto adjust brightness. Turn it off because it toggles between 30-70% which means that you have 30% more brightness if you adjust it yourself with the slider.
@sgsdebruin: No, no Emil Ratelband. (Dutch happy-guru a few years back). Just thought it would be polite to let all the people, who spent time to do this stuff for the community, know that it's appreciated. I know it works for me if others are being appreciative so...
@kelvgoh:
1) No problem for me.
2) Battery performance could be better, yes, but I'll have it on the usb a lot anyway for synchronizing with Outlook at work, so it's not so big of a deal. I'm also thinking that battery life of a device is inversely proportional to the screen resolution.
3) Screen readibility in sunlight. Yeah, that's not so good. The screen of the device is not anti-reflective at all, what makes it really sparkle if you haven't reflections in it, but if you do, then it's bad. (See also some of the Youtube video's of the HTC. In many occasions you can clearly see the camera it's filmed with.)
4) I lucked out there too. No problem.
Fact remains that some HTC TP do have weird problems (1 and 4) and others don't. You can read more of those freak problems on the forum. It looks like the production process is not making consistent devices every time.

Polaris is better than Blackstone (Touch HD)

For those who might be interesting in buying Touch HD:
1) "Today" at HD works in portrait mode only. (I used only landscape in Polaris)
2) Scroll wheel in Polaris is very convenient. I missed it in HD.
Regards.
Hi I can't agree with your opinion.
I've changed from Polaris to HD 5 days ago,
Today screen works also in portrait and landscape mode!
Scroll wheel I never needed on Polaris.
I prefer the large display instead of the scroll wheel.
I don't know, man. Claiming the Polaris beats out the HD is a very hard sell. I know if they sold one with US 3G bands I'd be ALL over it without looking back, heh.

1) "HTC Home", which I meant, does not exist alone in HD. It is included in "TouchFLO 3D", which still works in portrait mode only. Neither Gyrator 2 nor Gsen (unstable at HD) can rotate "TouchFLO 3D" (actually Gyrator 2 can rotate it, but when in "lock" mode only -- looks damn anyway). Known attempts to install alone "HTC Home" at HD are failed.
Thus, most time you are locked in portrait mode at HD.
2) I use scroll wheel each time when I read news (RSS) or texts in Polaris. The scroll wheel is very ergonomic in Polaris (although RSS code does not scroll correctly after the official WM6.1 upgrade, but the upgrade by NewsBreak (RSS V2) restores the functionality).
HD screen has noticeably larger, than in Polaris, screen length. The total screen length in HD is nearly the same at the sum of Polaris's length plus its scroll wheel area.
Thus, I have to use the "scroll wheel" area in HD anyway and found it inconvenient because:
1) anyway, you cannot scroll close to the edge of the screen because of presence of the ruler, which "naturally" moves in the opposite (to the finger) direction;
2) In 50% cases the finger marks the text instead of scrolling -- most inconvenient;
3) and what's about the fat traces at the HD's screen in the "scroll area"? -- I had to clean HD screen every evening.
3) There are few hardware improvements in HD:
a) you can lock the device by inserting the stylus back to its holder.
(i.e. keep the stylus out the device when you are using it actively, ha-ha). Fortunately, this feature can be disabled.
b) automatic adjustment of the backlight. Great, but what's about "floodlight" into your eyes when you just awoken (by wakeup alarm) in the dark room ?
Fortunately, this can also be disabled.
Regards.
PS: I returned back to Polaris.
Yeah sort of a hard sell, I like my phone but the HD is a sweet device. If the HD came with quad band GSM and triband 3G, same frequencies as the Polaris, I would be all over that.
What did you do with your HD? Selling it?

Christmas toy to my child. Hope he will find how to improve it by himself.
i suppose is just a matter of getting used to anything new... i suppose if you did use the HD for a while, you wouldnt change back to the polaris... unless you dont like changing in your life...
i found it difficult to get used to every new phone i bought, apart from the excitement in the beginning.... but in a few days i would be allready settled on my new phone, even if i did miss some of the bits of my previous one... you allways get round it....
question: Why did you even bother buying it, since you allready knew there wasnt a scroll button??
The very INSTANT I have the $$$, my trusted Polaris will retire, and a new HD will be in my hand I will still use my Polaris for 3g tethering, tho...
Edit: Ha!! My new HD will be shipped Monday (Nov 17th) morning!!!

i found it difficult to get used to every new phone i bought, apart from the excitement in the beginning.... but in a few days i would be allready settled on my new phone, even if i did miss some of the bits of my previous one... you allways get round it....
question: Why did you even bother buying it, since you allready knew there wasnt a scroll button??

1) I cannot live with obsolete portrait mode (I did not know that HTC Home became a part of portrait-only TouchFLo in HD). "portrait only" software from the producer of the high-tech device with in-build g-sensor -- does not it sounds strange?
2) scrolling by finger is better (natural) in iphone;
3) I did not know that there is still no hardware video support in HD
igoivo said:
1) anyway, you cannot scroll close to the edge of the screen because of presence of the ruler, which "naturally" moves in the opposite (to the finger) direction;
2) In 50% cases the finger marks the text instead of scrolling -- most inconvenient;

How can I disable the locking device when inserting the stylus?
Thanks!!!
1) Disabling stylus can be done with Gyrator 2
2) Correction of wrong HTC's auto light calibration can be done with G-light.
Actually it is the light sensor hardware problem in HD. Namely, it reports almost zero light signal in a quite broad light conditions from full dark till twilight. Thus, the scale should not be uniform.

Fuze Questions

I'm an iPhone 2g user looking to upgrade. I had a Tilt that I had to return because of some soft-reset bug it had. I called HTC and they said it was hardware related, so I sent it back for the iPhone.
I love my iPhone. It does everything I need it to do very well. I love safari (although flash would be nice), I love the Music player, and I love the quickness of the interface. That being said, however, I'm a pharmacy student, and I need certain software for class and internships. The iPhone does have epocrates, but it's limited in what it can do...
I played with the Fuze today, but it couldn't connect to the network (The employee told me the manager messed something up???) I didn't get to try out some of the key features I wanted to.
Some questions I have:
1: Touchflow. when is started using the phone, touchflow was SLOOOW. I was able to pan my way over the the Photos tab, but once there, there was no more scrolling. I could tap icons to move to the next menu, but it was very very sluggish??? I found there were a couple of programs running in the background, and once I closed them out, it was responsive again. But, how many programs can be running before it is unusable???
2: Touch screen: The touch screen had some selective response at times. I noticed that when using the stylus, it sometimes didn't pick up my input. This was especially evident in the upper right portion of the screen (when I wanted to X out of programs). Is this a common issue, or is it something wrong with the device? Or is it just me not knowing how to use a stylus?!
3: Hardware question: I wasn't able to make, or even pretend to make a call because it couldn't connect to the network, and because it had the security wires on it. But, how usable is the volume rocker switch mid-call? are there issues using it because of the sliding keyboard? Also, is there a proximity sensor on the phone, to dim the screen in a call???
4: SMS/MMS: The 2nd main reason I'm considering the fuze over the iphone 3g is the MMS. Anybody have any pictures or description of how the Text messages are handled by the fuze? I'm not familiar with how windows mobile manages them!
5: Email: I'm no power email user, but I do read them on the road. How does WM6 handle emails???? I have a gmail account...
6: Opera: I've heard good things about the browser, but again, no network = no opera use. how is opera? Does it support flash?
7: Malware??? Are windows phones prone to malware???
8: One handed operation? I love how the iPhone is mostly 1 handed. I take the trolly to school daily, and sometimes i only have 1 hand free. does touchflow allow me to operate the phone completely 1 handed??? Can I type up a text message using the screen and no stylus???
9: Media player: Will I need to buy a new iPod to listen to my media? Or does the Fuze's onboard stuff allow me to play my music well enough???
10: FM radio? The Sony Xperia has an onboard FM radio program. Is this something the HTC can do as well???
I have more questions as well, but I'll start with this. Thanks for all your help!

Need to flash a cooked ROM. All the ROMs I've tried so far has better response time for Touchflow and actually makes it usable. I would say this is just the stock ROM with all the bloated "stuff" making it unusable.

Same as above. Mine is very responsive.

The screen can be dimmed while in a call or you can disable it. The volume keys at the side works well... don't use them much.

Not sure about this. I just use SMS, no MMS, although I have tested it and it works fine.

It has several ways of configuring emails. I am checking my emails via IMAP, including GMAIL and it works fine. I have 3 email accounts I check via IMAP and I have no issues with it.

You can use it 1 handed but not sure coming from the iPhone how it would compare.
The best thing I can recommend to you is to order the Fuze and test it out. You have 30 days to return it. If you don't like it and it doesn't meet your requirements then no need to keep it. I don't have any experience with the iPhone so I can't offer you any comparison. I had the Tilt before and liked it a lot. I had it to a point where it did everything I needed and VERY quickly. I also have the Fuze setup the same way and I'm happy with it.
Good luck.
9) Yes, handles media well. You can get 16GB memory card for about $30 to have as much storage as your old iPhone (and no need to mess with ITunes). The only gripe about media I have is that the unit doesn't have a 3.5 audio jack (though it comes with an adapter)
10) The stock FUZE rom doesn't have the radio app, but it's an easy .cab to find. The headphones have to be connected for radio to work, as it uses the headphones as an antenna
stevieraveon...you've found a 16gb microsd for $30? If this is true, and you're not confusing it with regular SD, i'm sure myself and several others on the forum would love to know where!
Fuze Complaints?
I was curious as to what to expect before ordering my Fuze.
What kinds of issues / complaints are Fuze/Raphael users having???
(For example, on my Tilt, there was a soft-reset issue. On my iPhone 2g, there's a sub-par earpiece speaker, recessed headphone jack, no copy/paste/MMS, etc).
Questions for fuze owners
2 Questions:
1: Music: Is there a way to skip songs while the phone is in "standby mode" (or whatever the blacked out screen shows)? On my iPhone 2g, I can either use the headphone's mic as a button, or I can double click the main button, and guestimate where the Skip forward button would appear on the touchscreen. (Both tricky things to do when walking)...
2: Syncing: How many computers can you sync a windows mobile device with? My main computing machine is a Mac, which I love. However, I'm aware I may need to use a PC for syncing some things (like software). Can I have the phone sync to two machines? (The iPhone only likes one...)
I really have no complaints about the Fuze other than the stock at&t ROM. If you really wanna enjoy your phone, your gonna have to flash a cooked ROM; the AT&T one is just way to slow to use. Besides that the phone is great. You MAY have problems with the GPS, but if you do flash the .28 radio you should be fine.
Hope that helps
being able to control music while in standbye depends on whether you use third party software or not. i use conduits pocket player and it allows control via headset and avrcp while in standby.
you can sync the device with two comps at the same time so you should be fine

i used to have an old desktop that i used as a media center with all my mp3s on there
so i used to sync everything on my laptop, contacts, calender... but on my desktop when i setup my device with active sync, i olny chose to sync music.
now on the fuze has an extra option, i believe you can connect the fuze to any pc or mac and have it show up as a mass storage device!!! like a flash drive, so u dont need any software (activesyc, iTunes) or any drivers to transfer files!!! (very office friendly)
the phone has some issues, but i think all of them have been addressed, including new 3d drivers!
look around here, this is why we have this website ( to solve problems)

I realize it's to fix problems, and I'm aware all phones (or electronics for that matter) are prone to issues. I was kind of hoping, though, that people would chime in and make a list of the biggest known issues with the Fuze.
For example, I heard rumors that fresh out of the package, there's an issue with the speaker being too quiet.

Can anybody confirm this???!!! In my eyes this would make the media app on the fuze more powerful than my iPhone.
I frequently skip through songs, but having the lack of buttons on the iPhone means I need to reach for my neck, to use the headphone button...take the phone out of my pocket (not good in the rain...).... or double click the home button in my pocket, and tap around on the screen until i discover the SKIP button...
Also, while you're confirming the D-pad, can you tell me if the volume toggle works to manage the music volume as well??? (For directly connected headphones (Wired) or bluetooth headphones (Wireless))

1. For just using the phone, in Windows Media, in it's settings>buttons there is a toggle screen (I set it to hold left since I don't use previous) and I can use all the buttons after I toggle screen (Turns screen off).
2. For wired and wireless headsets, do the same as #1 or buy a headset that has music buttons and is an A2DP headset, those can change songs and volume and everything even when the pphone is in standby.
Syncing with multiple computers is no problem, but you can only sync mail/outlook with one computer. Had a WM device synched with with 3 machines before. Active sync will have different profiles/names to each computer you sync it with. Not sure what the limit is.
Syncing with exchange server is pretty awesome though. Too bad my companies security cert expired though... active sync doesn't like that. Need to have net admin get that updated cert
as for music I have an a2dp stereo bluetooth headset with controls and it works great, with the screen on or off. It does cause the youtube app to lag though, not sure why...
Well autocorrect/autocomplete seems to be broken but this is prolly rom related. Still looking for a way to nix out that xt9 junk... voice command also seems to be partially broken, but again rom/software related.
I miss having a tab button on the keyboard seems to be the only key/button that I really miss having, it was nice having a mail button but mail is easy enough to get to with TF3d. Left and right on the dpad seem to have a sweet spot.
Of course it is a fingerprint disaster, really wish that the back wasn't glossy it looks great when its clean.
All in all no major complaints.

I think the D-Pad or whatever you refer to the directional controls at the bottom of the Fuze only reliably work for up and down. Left seems to work better for me than right (probably because I'm right handed). But overall, using the D-Pad is irritating.
Trying to use the D-Pad around the middle button for playing games sucks.
Also, with some older apps, I'm running into a situation where if I switch from the old app (for example, PocketAtari) to the main screen TF3D or accidently hit the key that brings up the main screen, I can't switch back to pocketatari, and I can't really use the main screen either, it's like they switch back and forth and I can't really get either application to become the focus or active window.
Anyway, as usual, the stock ROM with the FUZE is meh. Best bet is to replace it with either the NATF ROM or romeos. I'm using romeos 1.40.1 right now, looking to flash to 1.50 when that stabilizes.
overall, I miss my tilt in a lot of ways. Even the gimmicky tilt feature is better to have than not to have. The bottom buttons on the front of the kaiser/tilt are way better in my opinion that those on the Fuze.
I don't understand what HTC was thinking. Change to a VGA screen and add a G-Sensor to the kaiser, and you've got a sweet device. Oh and use the newer MSM7200 series chip running at 528MHz and keep that FM radio feature turned on too... pretty sweet kaiser/tilt that would be. Keep it simple, stick to what worked...
To sum up:
D-Pad: crap. only good for up and down. not good for games.
MicroSD slot requires taking the back plate off to access. Not a huge deal, but I liked the kaiser's little cover at the bottom.
Fingerprints- yeah. get a screenprotector for sure. even with a protector, fingerprints all over the device (not just screen).
It slides the other way (for those of you with 8525s I guess it slides the "right" way?) Personally I like the kaiser slide direction and am used to it.
the cool:
it's faster than the kaiser. seems noticably faster than the kaiser when compared side by side. (both using custom roms)
video with you-tube pretty cool, smooth.
G-sensor is sorta neat, not always that responsive, but the Teeter game is great in my opinion. lotta people find it really addicting for awhile.
hTorch is awesome. the LED light on the FUZE/Touch Pro is really actually very useful with that hTorch app.
battery life is meh. Kaiser seemed better and seemed like it has a bigger battery, the battery on the fuze is freaking tiny.
True VGA screen is probably the main reason I went with the fuze... it's better than QVGA.
Hope that helps.
At least you know what you are getting into. It's the next step in the evoluton of HTC/Windows Mobile devices.
When I turn the screen off on my Pro it shuts the music off for some reason!? Any clues how to change this?
As an aside question: If you reflash to somebody else's rom, Is it possible to go back to the factory rom easily???
I'm just a little wary about modifying something to that extent! I don't have the $$$ to replace it if I brick it!
Off the bat, plan on running HardSPL and getting a new ROM. I'd suggest going with the one in my sig. If you start from scratch, you will like the phone a lot more. It is stable and awesome without TouchBlo. It SUCKS with TouchBlo.
Other than that, it's a fingerprint magnet. You can revert to factory SPL and ROM easily.
The Fuze's D-Pad sucks. If you liked to play emulators on your Tilt, you might as well get the Fuse on a second line and keep it around as a Game Boy, or get used to watching movies on your phone instead.
This thread has some good, honest feeback: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=446520
Fundamental flaw - TF3D couldn't mask WM's 'touch unfriendliness' heh... WM just depends on the stylus too much to get the job done, in it's current iteration.
