How can I set up IP of DNS server manually? When I'm assigning static IP under WiFi->Connection Settings-> IP address there is no place to put DNS server IP ?
Without this my connection is not working
Where can I put it ?
Wojciech
Did you manage to make it work? I have the same problem
same problem, but no solution . I discovered that command
setprop net.dns1 x.x.x.x
sets DNS properly, but I am currently looking for a way to do that automagically, or faster than using terminal.

Hi Folks,
I have set up my wife's SPV E650 to hook up to our wireless network at home so she can connect to the internet through the home wireless network. We have static IP's on our LAN. Although I have specified a static IP for the E650's wireless connection, I cannot find out where I specify the DNS servers to allow her to connect to the internet via our ISP, (I know the DNS server IPs, I just can't find out where I enter that info on the E650). So at the moment, I can connect to the home network, but cannot get onto t'internet!
It is quite likely that I am being a spaz and am missing something obvious... regardless, if you can help me, let me know!
Cheers
MW
even if you have a static IP you should not have to specify a static DNS because your default gateway should be your router IP address and your router should automatically give the DNS servers to any device that pulls that ip address

Thanks for your response.
All the other devices on my home network (laptop, PC, Xbox 360, SPV M3100) ask for the DNS server to be specified in a static IP environment, and they all connect to the internet just fine through the wireless network.
I am sure you are right, but I know that none of the above mentioned devices connect to the internet without the DNS servers specified.
So, question remains, how do I specify the DNS servers on the E650? Maybe a registry entry?
@mortalwombat,
i have the same problem with my htc s710.
Even though I run the wireless network with static IPs, I set my HTC S710 to get the IP "from a server" (= dynamic IP setting).
I did this after I tried with an IP Adress within my IP Adress Range.
So what happened is that my S710 somehow gets an IP Adress from my router that is almost in my regular IP Range.
You can try to set an static IP Adress within your Range first and then switch to dynamic IP Adress on you device..

Hi,
I am porting Froyo to the Miphone A3/A8, a chinese Iphone clone.
I got a big problem that seems to be common but there is no source how to solve it. The radio log says that the apn was successfully connected via GPRS or 3g. It states my ip address, the gateway, dns servers... everything seems to be reasonable.
But if I open the browser or any other program the sites cannot be loaded.
Its not the dns server... I tried to access the ip as well.
Worst part is that netcfg states:
ccinet1 down 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0
that should be set right?
Is there a way to set it manually? If I just set the ip via ifconfig ccinet1 x.x.x.x and ifconfig up it doesnt help.
Does anyone know that problem?
Thanks in advance
when I set static IP, my device cannot access internet, I tried it on more roms and result is the same I have set mac to ip bind (to ensure IP is not assigned to another device) on my router and it still does not work..I want static IP as it reduces wlan wakelocks
it is not router problem as on my tablet internet is working with static ip

What router do you have, how is you netwprk configured, did you set the right gateway and subnet mask in the device?

linksys WRT54GH
gateway is 192.168.1.1 and mask is /24 (255.255.255.0)
in phone static IP settings everything is configured correcty but no internet access
what says ipconfig in terminal emulator?
and what encryption and band do you use?

Try setting it then restarting the router.
Edit - posting this with static IP. Are u using a repeater?

no
Strange not sure why it won't work for u. Anyway I didn't fiddle with the phone setting, I set the static dhcp on the router. Rebooted the router, got the static assign ip.

I'll try it in work on wifi to see if its problem of my network
I flashed desire xs rom and static ip now has internet access, but on sense 3.6 roms it does not work (tried blackout, ice cream saga and stock)
1st they blocked me from the Staff Wifi
Now they blocked me from Student Wifi
or they changed the password BUT using the app Wifi Connection Manager, it says connected so i think the password is correct
It gets stuck at scanning or associating (scan paused)
I tried using the app Override DNS but it cant even associate so it returns errors of original DNSs were null etc.
I'd like to try use Static IP which is a option in the app Wifi Connection Manager
but it needs IP Address, Gateway and Netmask as well as DNS 1 & 2 which I could use 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 but I don't know the IP Address, Gateway and Netmask which go with the Google DNS
I will thank helpful comments!
I am S4 android 5.1.1.
My wifi doesn't work anymore (some hardware problem in it) and I dont have a mobile data connection.
So I thought to setup reverse USB tethering.
I did all the steps and routing works fine. (I can ping 8.8.8.8)
However DNS doesn't work.
What I have tried is,
- Setup DNS by DHCP
- Set DNS manually by net.rndis0.dns0, net.rndis0.dns1, net.dns0, net.dns1
- App's like DNS forwarder
- Configure iptables to forward all traffic on 53 to 8.8.8.8
- tried opendns instead of google dns
Everytime I do nslookup it says
Code:
Server: 0.0.0.0
Address 1: 0.0.0.0
nslookup: can't resolve 'google.com': No address associated with hostname
Anything else I could try ?
Thanks.
