Is there any way to change the layout and/or background of the "Unlock" screen that is displayed when you hit the unlock soft key on the keypad when it's locked?

I have HTC Sense disabled on my Today screen so it looks like a basic today screen. When I lock the phone, it shows the sliding unlock icon. When I slide to unlock I need to enter my PIN to use the phone (forced due to work email security). Sometimes when I turn the phone back on after the screen has turned off due to inactivity, the screen is blank (the sliding unlock icon isn't visible). The only things I can see are the top row (clock, speaker icon, signal/data icon, battery remaining icon, QuickMenu icon, and Start button). None of the items in the top row respond except for QuickMenu, but nothing in there functions since it is still locked. I end up having to soft reset the phone. I am using the most current stock ROM WM6.5.
Anyone seen such a problem or know how to fix it? Is there a program like QuickMenu that has an "unlock" link in the menus? I wonder if that could be a workaround. Thanks.

Probably a stupid question but when I add a pattern lock to my phone I lose the default lock screen.
When pressing the unlock button:
Without pattern lock - there are two sliders, unlock and sound on/off
With pattern lock - it goes straight the enter pattern thing.
I want to have a pattern, but also have the sliders, how can I do this?

You can use the apps immediately, just touch the screen or press a capacitive button.
Does anyone know how to make the number keys transparent on the lock screen?

Unfortunately, it is not working and I don't know why. My phone is unlocked (this ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1654415)
Is this the right key to change if I want this behaviour: when the screen is off, when I press the power button, it just re opens where I left without showing the lockscreen. Is it right?
